Bugs, I think we stuck with the alarms for a week or two after she came home from hospital. She's only gone beyond three hours a handful of times since then and all in recent days. When she does she tends to want more frequent feeds on the day, so she self-regulates.

I'm with kat on the cake. I ate more sugary carbs in the weeks following her birth than at any other time and the baby weight fell off anyway. Result!

FriendofDorothy · 04/10/2014 13:26

I am trying to eat sensibly but I am on a major carb craving today and I know it is because I am tired.

I have just eaten a very nice hot cross bun with plenty of butter. Yum.

Its often nothing to worry about. My midwife said it was common around 7-10 days if breastfeeding and caused by a growth spurt. Hopefully yours will settle down soon. If its any consolation, once mine got worse at that point (also passed a really big clot, ewww) I only had light blood loss after that point. Fingers crossed you don't have an infection.

Ok the blood loss is grim. I was still getting gushes us to 3 weeks pp and I passed a huge clot at one point. Grim.

I used two pads at once for a while! So padded and soft!

TheOriginalWinkly · 04/10/2014 18:42

Soaking pads in witch hazel and keeping them in the fridge makes them wonderfully cooling, plus the witch hazel reduces inflammation.

I used two pads for a while too and got gushes when I expressed. It's the hormones. I was still getting red blood after 5 weeks and bled for about 6 in total. Grim.

JethroTull · 04/10/2014 23:08

So pleased to hear you're feeling brighter Bugs & that you're eating. Food is often the answer to most things!

Oh no, it won't make your milk contain more iron! Don't worry about that for a moment. Breastmilk has a laxative effect. Constipation is very rare in a breastfed baby.

katandkits · 05/10/2014 08:34

You could also try stool softeners or a mild laxative to help you go.

FriendofDorothy · 05/10/2014 08:35

Have you had any more blood tests to check your levels again?

Are you drinking orange juice as well to aid absorption?

The specialist continence midwives told me to take a tablespoon of golden linseed a day with loads of water as a natural and effective constipation remedy.

Ffs, out with MiniWink in the ergo which she loves because she can be up high looking around but snuggling me at the same time, and some interfering fuck sees fit to tell me she looks terrified. I politely tell them she likes it, she would cry if she was frightened, but they insisted she was scared because she was holding on to my tshirt!

What an utter twonk, winks. Why on earth would a random stranger know your baby better than you?

I hadn't heard that about spatone, bugs. I've been taking one a day with my bfing vits that also contain iron.

What a moron winks only today we were out for a walk and A had little kitty in the sling andi thought "aww how cute she is sleeping grabbing hold of his T-shirt clinging on like a little baby monkey". I don't know why some people feel the need to make comments. Mostly I only get positive ones about sling. Why would a baby be terrified whilst cuddled close to mummy? Tota
bugs hope the prescription does the trick and hope you get a decent sleep. Once things settle down I would tend to stick to feeding every 2-3 hours in the day. If she is going to do a 4 hour stretch you will want that to be at night when pat leave is over. Good to hear the weight gain situation is positive.
