Janey, I popped into my GP surgery and asked for a sample pot, which they obligingly provided with dire warnings about needing a new one for each sample. The midwife at my booking in implied that I could reuse the same one, so I'll double-check at my next appointment...

So, random question du jour: is anyone else a singer? I'm finding the whole interaction between diaphragm and abdominal muscle whinges really quite weird, and was wondering if anyone else was getting them. Not to mention nearly passing out during the church service this morning - turns out full choir gear (cassock, surplice, ruff) plus warm church plus a good dose of incense doesn't agree with pregnancy light-headedness! I made up something about having woken up feeling woozy and wondering if it was a bug or something viral, but two of the choir ladies immediately asked 'you aren't pregnant, are you?' Oh dear... [apologies for those for whom this dose of CofE jargon will mean sod all!]

What's a harmony scan?

Feeling proper useless this weekend. Feeling guilty for lying around the house so much. My garden is driving me mad because it's all getting full of weeds. Can't be bothered to do anything about it though. Are we supposed to avoid gardening as anyway. I'm sure I've read that somewhere but it seems very OTT. Achievement of the weekend was cleaning the fridge out. How rock'n'roll am I! I hope this lack of energy passes soon. nunkie I don't know hoe you've got the energy to pull your trainers on never mind get 2 miles into a jog!

For the past week or so ive totally gone off hot drinks, the smell of them makes me want to vomit. But the past few days, I feel that I've gone off drinks all together- water, juice, anything and I'm having to force myself to drink, only managing a few sips at a time. There's nothing I fancy at all. Does anyone else have this? I don't want to become dehydrated but the thought of drinking turns my stomach

dancestomyowntune · 14/09/2014 21:29

Does anyone else feel like they can feel movements? I know it's ridiculously early (10+1) but I swear I can feel little flutters, always in the same place! Can't be the bubba surely?

cinnamongreyhound · 14/09/2014 21:32

Yes me MrsS010814! It's getting better now and I'm 10+4, as you say I just had to force myself and sip it all day. Feel so thirsty but can't face drinking, have some better days.

Babiecakes I've got mine on Thursday. Think you're the first on the thread to have the dating scan.

I'm excited and extremely nervous at the same time. I had a mmc earlier this year and although the common sense part of me knows it was just bad luck, the complete lack of anything to indicate a problem terrifies me.

Lucky you, feeling movements dances. I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between baby movements and my tummy rumbling!

I gave in and played with the Doppler this evening. I couldn't find anything, but DP had a go and we found something that sounds the right speed, but it also sounded more like a ticking. Either the Doppler is not great or I'm having a clockwork automaton in 6 months Shock

daholster · 14/09/2014 23:20

Hello! Just saying hi, 9+2 today... Had early booking etc and consultant led cos I have UC, an ileostomy (bag on my belly!) and maybe have some blood vessel disorder (called HHT) which I'm waiting to find out on 20th October... Sounds like a lot but hoping all will be pretty straightforward and that the new diagnosis will be negative - fingers crossed! Appointment with obstetric consultant on 9th October to find out if I need to take heparin injections or not (hope not!)

Feel a bit terrified that something will go wrong - this is my second pregnancy, the first was ok though I wasn't well with my UC (had my stoma made to help treat this when she was 7 months old)... But overall things were great and my daughter is perfect, she was a little skinny but absolutely fine. I can't help worrying this time for some reason; I keep worrying about the 12 week scan. I know there isn't any point but still!

Had a few days of dreadful nausea and sometimes can hardly get up the stairs due to awful achey legs, tired... But today the worst thing is constant thirst and dry mouth! Horrid!

I won't always write lots Wink Nice to meet you all!

daholster · 14/09/2014 23:24

MrsS I am similar, I can manage coke easier, and Calippos are ok. I can manage goody type drinks - veg bouillon and Bovril work out for me sometimes, nice and salty.

Lindalove · 15/09/2014 07:38

I have 12 week scan a week today! Hoping all the tests reveal good results ..

Wherediparkmybroom · 15/09/2014 07:42

Good luck today lindalove, mine is tomorrow although I think I'm nearer 13 weeks though! It always seems more real once you can see them.

Don't know what is going on with my bowels at the moment they are certainly not behaving themselves, grippy wind is so not fun. Keep thinking ooh do I need to go to the loo? Blush Nope just a but of wind. So not good when your stuck at work on your own and have to man the desk.

lila35 · 15/09/2014 09:05

I have my 12week scan on friday, I'll be exactly 12 weeks although they could still change my dates even tho its an ivf baby and we know the dates for sure! Plenty of nausea, tiredness and headaches for me and food is just not that enjoyable at the mo. Really hoping everything is looking as it should, but the scan worry is really taking hold again....

cinnamongreyhound · 15/09/2014 10:05

Congratulations daholster! If you've done it all before sounds like second time around you'll be a pro!

Hope all goes well LindaLove! Feels like you can really start vein excited once you get to that stage :)

When I lay down now I can feel quite a solid lump above my pubic bone and about half way up my hip bones, assuming that's my growing uterus? Feels kind of grapefruit sized.

Its a week today that I have my scan, not today (but thanks anyway for the good lucks!), but still only 7 days to go! Yes will be good to get past that, just can't help getting a bit nervy about the tests.

Have been getting excited but also recently since belly started to stick out I have got quite nervous and 'oh my god! baby' freaking out has occurred. This is good I think as clearly I am starting to take this on board and hopefully I'll get my head round it/ deal with the varying emotions. There is a bit of 'babies are boring!' in there (I admit I do find babies dull) but the bit I am looking forward to is when they start to show off their personalities.

BananaToast · 15/09/2014 10:29

So exciting that the 12 week scan dates are starting to arrive! Mine isn't for ages yet - 10 October, but I have my booking appointment next Friday to look forward to.

minipie · 15/09/2014 10:32

Lindalove I'm not a baby person either and did find the baby stage dull. If you have a reasonably easy baby though then they do sleep a lot mine didn't and so at least you can go and meet people for cake while they nap in the pram and trundle round the shops and even galleries if you feel up to public transport, helps keep you sane. Oh and lots of TV! And as someone else said April is a good time of year as it's ok weather to be outside at least.

sazzle Harmony is the new blood test for Downs/Edwards/Patau, much more accurate that the NHS tests (almost as accurate as a CVS/amnio but without being invasive) but so far only available privately, though some big NHS hospitals are trialling it. A scan is usually included with the blood test - my Harmony package includes both a 10 week scan (before they take the blood tests) and a 12 week scan (when the test results are back in). Other names for the Harmony are NIFTY/NIPT and there's another name too I think.

daholster that sounds complicated... What is UC, apologies for my ignorance.

I got offered a seat on the tube today Shock Shock I knew I looked a bit fat but didn't think it was that obvious...

Scan on Thursday!

Lauren82000 · 15/09/2014 10:32

Aww I love the newborn bit all snugly and wrinkly. I breastfed my DD on demand so she barely cried and was in my opinion the best bit no answering back, no being cheeky. Just the odd shitty nappy. 9months was the boring stage for me she did nothing but whine and couldn't wait to get her to nursery so I could go back to work.

BananaToast · 15/09/2014 11:00

minipie do you mind me asking how much you paid for your Harmony test? I've looked into this but it seems to be around £500 everywhere I've seen. Is there anywhere it can be done more cheaply?

minipie · 15/09/2014 11:32

I paid 400 at the Fetal Medicine Centre (including the 2 scans as I mentioned, also includes a CVS/amnio if the harmony comes up positive) - they have a great reputation for antenatal tests and scans

Lindalove · 15/09/2014 11:52

Yes I pray then for a baby who sleeps and bides his/her time to become interesting! I'm not sure I'll breastfeed yet, sorry if this is a bit un-motherly too but I find breastfeeding pretty weird, it makes me feel a bit ill actually.

I know all the evidence is all about how good it is for your baby but I can't get my head around the idea that my boobs can feed something, ugh!! My boobs have always been non-feeding things, so it feels like somehow my body has reverted to being something that climbed out of a swamp and is all primeval. As you can tell, not too cool with that at the mo.

I suspect I will give it a go because of the health benefits (while feeling pretty grossed out) for a while but try and get on mixed feeding asap (especially as it means husband can get involved in feeding asap). The idea of using boob pumps also makes me feel queasy. Am I the only wimp out there? :)

My early viability scan is with the feral medicine centre on Thursday. They offered me the Harmony package but I decided I didn't want to go for it. I can see the benefits but I'm going to opt for this early scan and then a gender scan before the NHS 20 week one.

Just fx I feel well on Thursday, had a rough day yesterday but feeling better today. Last time I was worried my symptoms were going and they hit me like a brick after three days of feeling about 80% normal.

So I'm just going to enjoy it while I feel well enough to function and not question it.
