Lottie68 · 18/10/2006 19:21

Hi! I'm new. Am Jacqui (38) due 16 January 07 with my first baby girl.

2MwahHaHaHappy · 18/10/2006 19:36

DH - I'm so sorry to hear about your dsis. (((hugs)))
Jess - hope you're feeling better. I had a right funny turn today where I thought I was going to pass out, I never had this with ds.
coffee - the partnership he works for does have a branch in Morpeth, but normally the furthest south he gets is Rothbury - and they may be a little confused if there's a queue of pg ladies at the surgery Honestly, he'd curl up with shame if he knew I told you (looshkin - if you breathe a word on saturday ) Still, waters broke two days later, so it's not like it wasn't a success!
No goats today, thank goodness!

2MwahHaHaHappy · 18/10/2006 19:37

Sorry, welcome Jacqui - a girl - time to even out the balance on this thread!

Dragonhart · 18/10/2006 21:38

Welcome Jacqui aka Lottie, hope you enjoy the thread.

Thanks to all for condolences. Still feel sad but have come onto Mumsnet to take my mind off it all.

Whilst I have been looking around the threads, have noticed that there seems to be a lot of bad feeling around at the mo. What has got into everyone, perhaps it is because it is so close to halloween?!

LadyTophamHatt · 18/10/2006 22:07

It gets like this every so often Dhart, I've been here almost 4 yrs now and it's an ongoing cycle.
This is the worst I've "seen" it though......

LadyTophamHatt · 18/10/2006 22:08

Sorry, meant to say Welcome to jacqui too

theUrbanDryad · 19/10/2006 09:36

hi lottie welcome to the madhouse!

is there a lot of bad feeling on MN? i hadn't noticed! but then, i do spend my whole life with my head in a bucket (according to my charming DH this morning anyway!) still, at least we're all chilled out. except my heartburn has now reached epic proportions and i keep getting the shit kicked out of me as soon as i stand still. have now started to sway slightly whenever i'm standing still (like in a queue or chatting to someone) meaning i get a lot of odd looks, like i'm one of those mad women who stand there muttering to themselves (i do this too)...

MotherBeaker · 19/10/2006 11:12

Welcome Jacqui/Lottie!

Is the bad feeling on the relationships thread? Seen a lot of heart-wrenching stuff on there recently, but maybe I'm being a bit melodramatic.

Not had any of the heartburn like you UD, but man is he kicking like a pro-footballer at the moment! Also waddling like a duck and finding it difficult to heave myself out of bed in the morning, have to get a push from dh . Back to the movements - has anyone noticed how big they have gotten? Not just small kicks anymore but big rolling movements and turns - lovely feeling but kinda weird.

Yay it's Thursday, almost Friday - 3 more weeks of work to go! 16 more days! 112 more hours! Can't do the minutes

Dragonhart · 19/10/2006 12:12

I had really bad heartburn last time Urban and was virtually swigging gaviscon from the bottle. Found giving up tea helped but made me very sad!

I have got really paranoid about my size. Sometimes I feel huge, then hours later am worried that I am too small. Think it is driving DH mad and when he comes home he says to me 'how are you? Big or small?!' Cheeky sod!

By the way, can anyone explain the whole months/weeks thing? I am 28 weeks so that is 7 months, but I have 12 weeks to go which is 3 months which would make me 6months IYSWIM. Anyone tell me which I am 6 or 7 months? Couldnt understand it last time!

poppynic · 19/10/2006 13:09

Dragonhart - it's counted as 40 weeks (which is not 9 months so the months thing is a bit of a mix-up). For those people like my Mum who just can't get their head around weeks - I count backwards from my due date (mid Jan) and go three months from mid Oct to mid Jan so I'm six months.

I've been worrying about my baby not kicking much and now I've read posts about lots of strong kicking - is anyone else not feeling that much??? please??

My dp loooovved helping me out with perinial massage last time. I had a pretty easy birth which he swears was to do with his massage. This time I'm so sore down there - stingy, itchy, swollen, throbby - thrush test came back negative) that, even if it did help I think I'll be giving it a miss....

elliepmummy · 19/10/2006 13:20

I always say I'm so and so months but work them out calender months so due 16th Jan therefore I am just over 6 months but I am 27 weeks.

My movements are all in the evening especially after DD gone to bed think baby thinks 'yippee peace my go now!'

Started a survey thread for due in jan in this topic don't know if yo've seen it may and april have done it so knicked their idea cant do links but you should be able to find

laughalot · 19/10/2006 14:25

elliepmummy · 19/10/2006 14:31

thanks 2happy I'll grasp the link thing one day!

MrsPeacock · 19/10/2006 14:41

I am sorry to add to all the negative stuff on MN at the moment, I am feeling very sorry for myself, have been in quite a bit of pain in my crotch for a few days, its really sore when I walk or standup for more that about 2 mins. Took myself to the doctors this morning who says its the dreaded SPD. AND I have to go for a glucose test next week coz my 28 week bloods were high sugar!
I am manic at work and DH is at home recovering from a shoulder operation that leaves him with one arm strapped to his chest for 6 weeks. AND the car is playing up.
Is it really supposed to be this tough, I feel close to tears all the time?
I am trying to get hold of my midwife for a bit more info on what I can do for the pelvic pain other than 'don't do things that hurt' excellent advice doc! But can't seem to get hold of her.
Just need a bit of sympathy ladies, anyone else feeling a bit overwhelmed?

elliepmummy · 19/10/2006 14:46

soothing hugs for MrsP from our house

when having DD had a really sore bits felt really swollen and uncomfortable and hadn't heard of SPD and never thought to mention it to midwife as thought it was one of those things but I did buy some of those gel pads from mothercare you put them in the freezer and then put them into mesh case (all comes in a set for around £25) and place in your knickers like sanitary towel. Bit cold to start with but numbs everything for a bit then when its not cold you take out of the mesh and throw that bit away away wipe/wash down gel thing and refreeze you get two gel things in the pack. Not sure if it will help but thought I'd mention it just in case.

theUrbanDryad · 19/10/2006 14:53

don't know about SPD, but i just had some peppermint capsules from my mum and they work a treat for heartburn!

mrsP i think anyone would be close to tears in your situation! when do you start your maternity leave? it's not even as if your DP could help around the house with a strapped up arm!! lots of sympathy from the northampton end of things......xxx

2MwahHaHaHappy · 19/10/2006 14:57

(((hugs))) from here too, Mrs P. Never had SPD, but it sounds awful. Have you searched the MN archives - I'm sure there's lots of advice about it.
Poppynic - was your placenta at the front of your womb when you were scanned? That can affect how much you feel, apparently.
UD - heartburn, bleurgh. It wouldn't be so bad if gaviscon didn't taste so flipping nasty!
DH - I had a book last time called "the best friends guide to pregnancy", which was hilarious, but it had a right bee in its bonnet about the 40wks=10months thing. It depends if you count calendar months, or 4-week months I think. It's like when you start weaning - I got totally confused about if it was 6 calendar months, or 24 weeks!
EPM - great idea on the survey thing!
It's a horrible day here, and I have lit the fire for the first time this season, so I'm going to make the most of ds's nap and snuggle on the sofa. Night all!

poppynic · 19/10/2006 15:01

MrsP - poor you - no I'm sure we're all supposed to be glowing and happy but somehow I think that's the exception rather than the rule. Can you take some sick leave? It sounds like you deserve it. I hope you don't mind my asking but what exactly is SPD - is it anything like my symptoms, which I describe 6 postings before yours? My doctor was very dismissive of my complaints.

MrsPeacock · 19/10/2006 17:22

Ahh, thank you!
Just what MN is for, a bit of sympathy. I had a friend who had SPD horrifically and was on crutches from the 1st Trimester so I do feel a bit of a whinger.
DH doesn't really know what to do with me, he can't really help out, and I keep crying.
Its my birthday next week and he was asking me what he could get me I think I'll ask for a cleaner, just for a couple of days to pick up everything for me!
I don't know what peppermint capsules you have found UD, but my MIL swears by Colpermin, not sure if they are ok in pg tho, you'd have to check.

MrsPeacock · 19/10/2006 17:30

Sorry poppynic,
Symptoms of SPD are strong almost shooting pains in and around front pubic bone. Particularly when standing on one leg. (I mentioned this to someone who said what are you doing standing on one leg, but when it hurts you realise how often you do it, putting knickers/trousers/socks on, washing feet in shower, climbing stairs etc.) I think its different for different people but not itchy or stingy - cystitis maybe?
and little one seems to be going through a mental phase leaping about like a gazelle in there.
Anyone know how you are supposed to sit on a gym ball to help SPD? I heard it can help. The sofa is not really comfy at the moment.

LadyTophamHatt · 19/10/2006 18:07

MrsP, you have my sympathy. I started a thread earlier today about my legs, back, and hips hurting and whether it was SPD.

I feel like I'm 90 yrs old.

Ds3 needed the toilet earlier and it took me about 5 minutes to get up the stairs.
Bloody agony, isn't it??

theUrbanDryad · 19/10/2006 18:29

just been reading some of the posts on the parenting thread. so THAT'S where all the bad feeling is!!

think i may have stirred the pot a little....hehe.....

JoJo30 · 19/10/2006 19:58

Poor Mrs P, I can sympathise as barely been able to walk at times this week. Went to doctors yesterday, who's refered me for physio - hopefully won't take too long to get an appointment.

The pain I'm feeling is actually in my left hip and bottom, not at the front of the pelvis. There was some useful info on the babycentre website. Sorry, can't do links but will try

link{http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/physicalhealth/pelvicgirdlepain/

Think I've got the pelvic girdle pain, but never heard of it before?

Love the advice to always sit down whilst putting on knickers! It's the only way I can get them on!
