I just got to the perineal massage section of my pregnancy and birth bible the other day and I have to admit to being rather shocked!! I just keep being reminded that there's so much I don't know! I think they recommended using a lubricant like KY Jelly and doing it for the last 6 weeks of pregnancy (so still a few more weeks to try and get used to the idea). Another, slightly less disturbing, natural remedy that was mentioned was drinking raspberry leaf tea in the last 6 weeks of pragnancy as well. Have any of you lot who have done this before tried it?

LOL on the whole shitting thing. I'm actually more scared of doing something like that than the actual labour. Although I am beginning to resign myself to the fact that embarrasing things are going to happen! I am already loosing some control over bodily noises! Last week in my yoga class I moved position and in a dead quiet room let out a massive fart

lostalldignity · 17/10/2006 14:50

enjoy a good shit before birth cos afterwards its gonna hurt a bit. no, no lets be honest here, shitting with fanny stitches is really painfull. stock up on all everything that aids pooing. As for raspberry leaf tea- doesnt taste that great. I prefer a cup of builders.

LadyTophamHatt · 17/10/2006 14:51

raspberry leaf tea tastes like shit so I won't be bothering this time....

Daisypops · 17/10/2006 14:52

Its amazing how your body changes, my farts are smelly and I'm pooing more. I'm not too bothered about pooing myself as I did this a couple of months back when I didn't make it to the loo in time!!! The joys of pregnancy eh?

So what is raspberry leaf tea supposed to do? I've heard of this but know nothing about it.

2MwahHaHaHappy · 17/10/2006 14:56

laughalot - I'm the one in the country with a vet for a dh. You think it sounds posh, do you? If posh includes dh dragging himself home literally covered in shit, then yes we're definitely posh! The worst was the time he walked through the door, I went up to say hello and he just looked panicked and said "no!! don't come near me!!", and ran for the bathroom. He'd been called to an RSPCA case involving a horse and was crawling with fleas. Also, because he's an assistant not a partner he gets shit money, honestly, you wouldn't believe how poorly vets are paid. He works silly hours, is on call one weeknight a week and every other weekend, no time off after on calls, and gets 4 weeks holiday a year. And he sticks his hand where the sun doesn't shine every day. But you really want to know the best, hilarious and totally embarassing (never breathe a word if we do meet up) thing? When stupidly overdue with ds, huge, melting in the June heat, and going out of my tiny mind....I didn't need to go to the mw for my stretch and sweep NOT A WORD!!!!

2MwahHaHaHappy · 17/10/2006 14:57

Oh, and you can get raspberry leaf in capsule form to avoid the yucky tea taste. No idea if it made the blind bit of difference to me.

MotherBeaker · 17/10/2006 15:26

lol 2Mwahhahahappy!

And lucky daisypops pooing all the time - for those of us that feel like they are actually having a baby each time they go, if they go at all!

I have a sneaky suspicion (being a first timer) after all the discussions on here of hairy bits and pooing that things get a whole lot less dignified from now on - am I right?

Daisypops · 17/10/2006 15:27

2Mwahhahahahappy-

lostalldignity · 17/10/2006 15:49

do any of these 'natural'/herbal/ massage/homeopathic things actually work? a vet wouldn't prescribe raspberry leaf tea to a pregnant hefer and they do alright. Mind you i wouldn't fancy my vets arm up me wotsit.

2MwahHaHaHappy · 17/10/2006 17:21

And if you want to know the downsides of living in the countryside with a useless vet for a husband, take a look at my afternoon!

Hattie2 · 17/10/2006 17:50

ROFL at your 'stretch and sweep' story 2MwahHaHaHappy

elliepmummy · 17/10/2006 18:02

Hello all, just read the goat thread PMSL hope all okay now.

I have had some practice atlooking after 2 kids today as had my friends 10week old for the afternoon and Ellie christ it was hard work dreading January now (hopefuly the novelty of a baby will wear off DD very quickly!!!!)

Posted a picture of us on member profiles from when Ellie was a bridesmaid in september

Oh poo can never get links to work in member profiles and then go to Elliepmummy if you want to see!!

Dragonhart · 17/10/2006 19:44

Right, I tried taking rasberry tea, twice a day from 38 weeks and went 2 weeks over due so IMO that is crap!!

Didnt do perenial massage and had a bad tear, wish I had tried it.

Much preferable to masage is a bouncy ball type thing (think it is called a gym ball/birthing ball) which I read if you bounce on can have the same effect as massage as well as helping get the baby into right position. Unfortunatly, that didnt work for me, didnt stop me tearing, but was good for my back pain.

TBH I think that if these things are going to happen then nothing we do will make a dif. But maybe that just becauuse I am feeling pretty lazy!

My sister (who is 12 weeks preg) has had some bleeding and is panicking about it all. Has her scan on Fri but trying to get one earlier. Know that a lot of you on this thread had prob with bleeding, so is there any advice on what I can say that might help or make her feel beter.

Really keeping my fingers crossed for her.

MotherBeaker · 18/10/2006 09:15

Hi Dragonhart - fingers crossed here for your sister too. I had a bit of bleeding and even period cramps when I was 8 weeks and a scan showed everything was fine. There are a lot of threads on the Pregnancy pages about women who have had bleeding in the early stages but the baby was safe and sound. Nothing reassures like a scan though I guess - best wishes to your sister.

coffeebeanz · 18/10/2006 09:40

Some of these posts have really made me smile.
2Happy does your DH come as far down as Newcastle ? Next time the vet is at the stables I wont be able to look him in the eye without thinking you know what shame really cos he's quite cute, only looks about 18 though !!!

Now I know I have already given birth twice before so I should be really familiar with the whole procedure, but I'm actually quite apprehensive about the whole thing. I'm toying with the idea of a home birth this time, the potential for being snowed in during January might be quite high, but most people I've spoken too including a doctor friend looked at me in horror as if I've gone completely barmy.
DH is happy whichever way although he did remind me that I resembled a cadaver on a slab just after giving birth the first time there was so much gunk coming out (waters didnt break).

Raspberry leaf tablets. Did take them from 36 weeks and it was quite an easy birth. She did have quite a dark complexion which everyone commented on though.....

Didnt take them second time round, dont know why. 2nd delivery a bit fast and furious and I went into shock after. I distinctly remember saying 'I'm not doing that ever again ......!!'

Never bothered with the massage thing though sounds a bit wierd to me.

Poohing during delivery, now thats a whole new experience. I remember my next door neighbour telling me I must not under any circumstances ''give birth to a log'' (his words not mine)and I think his advice resulted in me tearing and having stitches. I'll just add that we are still close friends, we both had girls within 3 weeks of each other and they are still best friends 9 years later. To those first timers out there, those last few pushes do feel like you need to empty yourself, so just go with it, and if you do 'do a log' it wont be the first time a MW has seen it.

Lovely day today so I'm going to enjoy the sun and tidy up the garden and dig up some whats left of my carrots.

Dragonhart · 18/10/2006 11:32

Just found out that my sister has had a missed miscarrage 4 weeks ago. So sad for them. She was so excited. I was really looking forward to our babies being so close and now I feel really guilty cos we have been ok so far and with DS before.

Cant stop crying for her.

becks5109 · 18/10/2006 11:58

thats such a shame Dragonheart and really sad for your sister and all your family. Nature can be very cruel sometimes but these things usually happen as there is something wrong with the foetus - let's hope they try again soon and are more successful. Try not to feel guilty though as I'm sure she won't want you to be feeling bad - she has a new niece/nephew to look foward to enjoying.

laughalot · 18/10/2006 12:34

Aaah dragon im really sorry to hear the news just support her best you can.

Ok happy maybe you arent that posh , does your dh do the sweeps for free lol at least it saved a trip to the doctors .

As for the massage I dident bother with ds maybe thats why I went through hell however I would rather have hell than poke round my bottom

theUrbanDryad · 18/10/2006 13:03

for your sister dragonhart. i had a missed miscarriage earlier this year and it was very hard to cope with, especially since i got pregnant again almost straight away. thinking of you & your family....

elliepmummy · 18/10/2006 13:19

DH Hope your sister is as well as can be and you are ok to. x

jessddibs · 18/10/2006 13:44

Thinking of you and your family dragonhart. There is nothing that anyone can really say or do, time is the best healer. Hopefully she will fall again quickly.

Well, I have had a right emotional day today, hormones must be well mixed up! I got really stressed with dd this morning and lost my temper, all because she was playing around rather than getting ready for school. Then walking home I had a massive head rush and nearly fainted again. Managed to grab a seat at the bus stop to recover. Called the doctor who thinks it maybe that I am lacking in iron. Got the consultant app tommorow so am gonna get a blood test and spek to them. Feeling bloody drained to the point I could just go to bed, combine that with a massive guilt trip about telling dd off and......dh is taking dd to France tommorow night to visit friends and they won't be back till tues! I was invited to go but really, really don't feel up for it, high bp and fainting isn't a great combination for a holiday! Have had to agree on them still going as dd has been begging me all week and I didn't want to be the big bad wolf! I am missing her already and they havn't even left yet!! Gonna go stay with my sister though for the weekend, she has three kids so will be kept busy with them and sis and bil can have a night out if they want. I know dd will have an excellent time, she will be able to catch up with her little friends that she hasn't seen since last summer....just feeling a bit sorry for myself..my eyes are like puff balls cause I've been crying so much!! But why!!?? Hey ho. Hope everyone else is doing ok.x.

elliepmummy · 18/10/2006 13:52

oh poor you jess i am sure dd and dh will have a fab time and although you'll miss her lots it sounds like you deserve a little rest. Hope all goes ok woth consultant tomorrow.

Not much happening here meant to be going out with work tonight for someones promotion meal but got to hope DH home in time. Having a few weird cravings this week all weekend I was eating warm custard with melted chocoate buttons and today since about 9 I have wanted garlic bread so I have just cooked some for lunch and scoffed the lot so if I do go tonight I'll smell lovey!!!

LadyTophamHatt · 18/10/2006 16:17

OHhhh Dhart, I'm sorry to hear about you sister. I hope she has a happier and easier time next time.

Had my MW appt today (not last week as I thought....I'd gained a week in my head!), she said I had a slight trace of blood in my wee. What does that mean??
She said it's only a trace so nothing to worry about but I have no idea what it means and stupidly didn't think to ask.

She also couldn't find a vein in my arm to do my bloods so had to take it from my wrist!!! Dh had to leave the room at that moment

2happy, I love the sweep story. Maybe you could hire him out to all needy PG women
