Back from a week away - Lots to catch up on! Just off to read back through.... 27 weeks today!

CatFaceCrayola · 13/09/2014 17:37

I wish I could stay more active. I'm lacking in energy but even if I wasn't there is a definite lack of suitable classes.

SassehMonsta · 13/09/2014 17:54

So, last child-free holiday is over - Urrrkk! Lovely time except for Thursday when I was super-grumpy and super-hormonal and super-tired, so took myself off for a 2 hour nap. Oh, and heartburn, and annoyed with the 2 pharmacists who told me I couldn't take Ranatadine when pregnant. Have discovered the Gaviscon "double action" in the pink bottle isn't such a foul texture, and it has been a lifeline.

I've got disposable breast pads, but they make my nipples sweaty and I don't like them :/ Lots of leakage, and up to 10mls a day of milk as I'm having to express when they feel "full".

Regarding baby being able to reach everything inside, I looked up average length of baby at 27 weeks gestation - its 14.5 inches when legs are extended (head to toe)!! I got a ruler out and looked and then compared it to bump - baby must be super squashed/curled up! Bump was very lopsided the other day, distinctly curled one side of my belly button. Speaking of which, mines almost gone flat now (and its stiiilllll soft!). Baby kicks are turning into rolls and very much alien looking from outside.

GTT test next week as my paternal grandmother has some type or other. Need to check when my appointment is mind you! I thinkkk its Tuesday. I should check... I also don't "do" sugary drinks (pretty much only drink water) and I'm worried about bouncing off the ceiling within the 2 hours period. No-one available to come with me - Booo. And boo for those with GT confirmed (poor you BHLS!). I have all sorts of appointments coming up - more time in Hospital/Drs than at work I think!

Very lucky that my job is just in the process of introducing new online access, so once I'm set up I should be able to work from home if needed towards the end. I'm working up to 34 weeks because thats why my boss decided was good for him and me. Only 7 weeks left. Eeek!

I speak out when someone touches my bump and I'm not happy about it. shudder I'm usually quite touchy feely, so people tend to get a feel in once, but if they try for a second attempt I get feral. I also have belly pubes and hairy legs, so swimming is fun...! Aquanatal is nice but its my only excercise other than walking the dog. Keep saying I will go back to belly dancing, but its just the wrong time of day and in the wrong place really. (read:I'm lazy)

Don't know anything about whooping cough. What is the injection for - does it stop baby needing it when tiny? Any info or links to info greatly appreceiated.

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/09/2014 18:38

Sasseh the whooping cough in pregnancy vaccine stops your baby catching it when they're really tiny and too young for their own vaccine I think. There's been a lot of needless deaths in very young babies so they've rolled this vaccine out to all pregnant women.

monkeybaby2 · 13/09/2014 18:42

Sasseh don't listen to the pharmacist, I have researched ranitidine a lot as gaviscon doesn't touch my savage heartburn. You can take it, plenty of doctors prescribe it all the time, including consultants, but it's 'at your own risk' as the companies have not paid for testing it on pg women. As pg women have been taking ranitidine for years with no problem, I think we're safe. I have a current scrip from my doctor and take it every night without fail as otherwise I am up hourly with heartburn so bad it can make me sick.

And I feel your pain, I had a very snotty pharmacist tell me last pg that she 'had never heard of any pg women being allowed to take ranitidine' and I left in tears feeling like she'd just accused me of not giving a fuck about my baby. The following week as I slid the prescription across the counter to her I was unable to keep the super smugness off my face. Take that you judgemental bitch!

monkeybaby2 · 13/09/2014 18:45

Definitely getting the whooping cough vac here, I have friends that work in emergency medicine and all of them have heartbreaking stories about kids coming in with complications from preventable diseases because they haven't been vaccinated.

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/09/2014 18:46

Monkey that sounds like the dickhead at the pharmacy I went to the other night for cough medicine. He pretty much refused to serve me and gave me a condescending lecture about how all medication affects your baby, and even if something looks okay, it probably isn't. The twat.

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/09/2014 18:47

I might have coughed on him.

SassehMonsta · 13/09/2014 19:07

I totally would have done peace! NHS website says its pretty safe, might pick some up in Tesco when I do a food shop. thinking i may get it, will ask midwife when I see her soon!!

Taura · 13/09/2014 20:06

It's just occurred to me that my fingers have stayed pink since I got pregnant - normally I get attacked by Raynauds white fingers, increasingly so now it's getting cooler. Just googled it and realised that "Raynauds often goes away in pregnancy" Result! Another thing for the "benefits of pregnancy" column.

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 13/09/2014 20:16

some cough medicine (cavonia?) doesn't even have any "medicine" in it - there's no dosage information because it's just a bottle of syrup.

The leaflet I was given with the info about the whooping cough vaccine says "There is no human data from clinical studies on the use of during pregnancy."

That's reassuring. Hmm

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 13/09/2014 20:20

Chemist who refused to serve cough medicine was a judgy twat.

Dont read the "what's it really like with a newborn" thread. I did. I cried. However, I'm a bit emotional from overdoing it earlier...

PourquoiTuGachesTaVie · 13/09/2014 20:28

I've been avoiding that thread. I'm already starting to remember more from when ds was a newborn.

I'm feeling quite depressed at the moment actually. I've lost confidence in my midwife and I've lost confidence in my plan for a homebirth (partly to do with the rubbish midwife). I feel like I may as well go to the hospital like I did with ds, if all goes well then the birth will be just like the first time, if not then at least I'm at the hospital.

SassehMonsta · 13/09/2014 21:06

Thanks ladies, was about to click on that thread but checked back here first!

pourquoi you can request to change mw's. I did, I hated my first one! Luckily, I have a better one now, but sadly under consultant care and with a 98%+ chance of being on labour ward. I hope you find a way to get it sorted!!

I'm not allowed anything with a "decongestant" in it. Booo. Luckily, I don't seem to have a cold -touch wood- at the moment. Phew!

and Taura its great isn't it? First tri I barely suffered from my bronch, it went so well! One tiny infection in 2nd tri, and not feeling the effects of weather change too much at the moment either :) hurrah!

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/09/2014 21:23

Is the labour ward really dreadful? Do you still get your own room? I haven't even been offered a discussion of choice, assuming I'm gonna be wired up to everything going. Trying to look on the bright side, though. The only thing I know I want is to be able to move around when I want to.

monkeybaby2 · 13/09/2014 21:27

Argh, where is this 'what's it really like with a newborn' thread, I'm curious to see what people have said and I can't find it!

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 13/09/2014 22:00

Its on discussions of the day but has been kicking around for a while. I had to hide it. :(

However, my best mate has the best baby in the world who sleeps and does not cry unless she's starving, so I know it's perfectly possible!

Taura · 13/09/2014 22:08

You get your own room to deliver in, I think it then depends on where there is space for your recovery time (however long you are in). I think it normally is organised that if there is a private room available, you can pay for it, otherwise you would be on a ward with about 3 other new mums and babies.
(FTM though so just going on what I've been told).

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 14/09/2014 01:02

Ahh that's okay then! Not bothered about recovery but didn't fancy getting down and dirty with a load of other ladies!

CallingAllEngels · 14/09/2014 06:59

Try not ot be freaked out by the newborn thread. Everyone's experience will be different. DS was a dream as a baby. Luck of the draw.

25w today

monkeybaby2 · 14/09/2014 07:43

Ahhh, thank you BHLS, I found it. FWIW, I think half the problem is that we're all under pressure to be having this wonderful blissful experience whilst we watch lovingly down on our sleeping baby...unless you get a Magic Baby who sleeps all the time and is super chilled out, the chances are that isn't going to happen.

For a lot of people, the first 6 weeks is an endurance feat and it's hard. Your whole world just got turned upside down, you have no idea what you are doing, hormones are going crazy and you are more sleep deprived than you thought possible. This group will keep you sane.

And then guess what? The next 6 weeks gets better! And then the next 6 weeks after that too! Stuff changes so you have other hard stuff to manage but the curve is always gradually swinging up.

The thing I am doing different this time? DD was and is a committed nap dodger. I was the one looking incredulously at the HV who suggested I 'should sleep when she sleeps' - I bloody was, she just DIDN'T SLEEP! I got her into a routine at about 5 months and it made a huge difference. We also sleep trained her at 7 months and she has been a dream night sleeper ever since. With this one, I plan to get him into a routine as soon as I can and Gina Ford will be my friend.

So, don't stress about the newborn phase coming up, it's really quite short and we'll be here to hold each other's hands x

(And you never know, you might luck out and get a Magic Baby - my mate had two in a row, lucky bitch!)

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 14/09/2014 08:48

My parents keep telling me what a Magic Baby I was, how they could take me out anywhere and I wouldn't cry or scream at all. On one hand I hope genetics is on our side, but then I remember what a bloody nightmare my brother was after me. And MIL is not forthcoming with information or photos of DH as a baby Confused

espa · 14/09/2014 12:39

Ladies, random post but for those of you missing cheese fud you know Tesco sells pasteurised Camembert?

htbftm · 14/09/2014 12:45

morning all! sorry I've been absent, getting back into the term and its been massively busy! sorry to hear abbot the diabetes hun, hopefully it won't add to much stress for you! did we decide against a db group? I find it so hard to keep up on here, but live to know I'm not alone entering this 3rd trimester!! xx

CatFaceCrayola · 14/09/2014 13:56

DHs sister + family have come round with a tonne of baby donations. Very cool. But now I have to entertain and be all hostess-like when I just want to go rummaging through all the bags and boxes!!
