A few babies have already arrived, with more due to make their entrance soon, and it's not even September yet!

So far he has refused the breast and is holding out for a bottle

cookielove · 21/08/2014 03:24

Yes ella its my dad with type two diabetes, when he was first diagnosed it took a while to control it. But he's doing brilliantly now he is diet controlled and barely tests his sugars these days I think once every couple of months.

BooSurprise · 21/08/2014 04:00

Arrrh I can't sleep! DD 1 has puked in her bed, then in ours, DH has decamped to the nursery to the newly installed camp bed type thing- bet he IS glad I insisted on it now, and I'm sharing with an over zealous pre-schooler. Typical really as it's my lunch thing at work later but DD1 won't be able to go to nursery so I might not get to go! Just hope DD 2 doesn't get it, don't fancy a unwell 1 yr old too, actually I don't want it either as it will play havoc with my sugars, and if DH gets it, he is THE worst patient.
Ella I agree with marji finger pricks are much worse than insulin injections, although my thighs and belly are so over being a pin cushion, but that's after over 5 months of being used. Sadly I asked my consultant what my chances are, of getting diabetes in the future, and he said 40-50% in the next 10years, going to have to work hard to shift some weight as he said that and exercise would be the 2 big things that would make a difference. Diabetic by 45, I'd never have thought myself to be at that sort of risk, even being a bit overweight Sad
Sadly for your dad, I would say, yes his levels are above the normal range for an adult without type 2, so it's good for him to be checked out, my mum has just been diagnosed too, so it obviously runs in my family- made me feel slightly better that it wasn't just my weight putting me at high risk.
Period type pains continue off and on, and lots of tightenings, but the end is insight, just 12 days to go, also waddling like a duck, with pain in lower back and bottom, so sympathy to everyone else suffering that.

Not sure whether to be concerned or not... Yesterday at 38 wk midwife appointment when she took my blood pressure she said "oh no, I don't like that" and got me to slump down and did again. Then when she measured me it was the same as two weeks ago, and so she measured again to get a figure she was happier with.

I feel a bit unnerved, should I be worried by that? I know it might out me a bit, but Prob not helped by the fact that our hospital was on national news last night because 15 nurses have been suspended for falsifying records Confused

lilone1234 · 21/08/2014 08:46

coolcat You could maybe get your GP to check your blood pressure again and see what they think? I don't think the idea is to keep doing it until you get a number you like! And surely if it was changing a lot it could have been a faulty machine?

Thanks for the wee advice lately. It's very recent so I think it is due to the increased pressure from the baby's head - when I feel her move her head now it is really is rather uncomfortable so I will be shocked and disgusted if they don't tell me that baby is engaged at next appointment! This is on Tuesday, and i'll get my urine checked then in case of a UTI too.

cookie Did Elijah need to be bottle fed initially? I hope he manages to make the shift!

lil he was originally on tube feeding, and I was offering the breast at every feed. He started rooting at night so they asked if he could have a bottle. I said yes only if rooting. Yesterday he pulled out his feeding tube mid breast fed and they wouldn't put it back in because it can make him sick. So he was was topped up with bottle, they never put the tube back in and as he refused the breast in all but one fed yesterday he has pretty much had bottle bottle bottle.

Cookie- DS wouldn't/couldn't bf for a week after he was born. Instead of giving a bottle I hand expressed and used a syringe or cup to feed him so he didn't get confused and reliant on the bottle- is that an option? My hospital are very pro bf so giving a bottle simply wasn't an option. I had alarms set on my phone for every 4 hours because he wouldn't wake to feed and either hand expressed or used the hospitals pump.

I really hate this new layout and I hope it hasnt put people off posting because I really need some kind words now.

Growth scan this morning measured baby as 41 weeks (Im 36) and estimated weight today of 8lb. My usual consultant wasnt available and saw a different Dr, no idea who he was as no introductions and he didnt seem to have read my notes. When I told him of the scan he did then read the report and just shrugged saying t 'see how it goes' and wasnt interested

polkadotdelight · 21/08/2014 14:55

oh ffs. sorry! I hadnt finished either. Didnt examine me so no idea if head engaged. I asked if I would be scanned again which he agreed to but I dont think he would have otherwise. So scan at 39 weeks and then hope to god I see my usual consultant for some sense. Have since spoken to midwife for reassurance but now realise that I cant have midwife led birth anymore (previously this had been ok'd) so no pool birth and I dont want to end up flat on my back strapped to.monitors. I cant do another 4 weeks minimum of feeling so uncomfortable either and Im so upset by it all.

polka did they give you am indication of what centile baby is currently on?

xxmissbrightsidexx · 21/08/2014 16:43

Hi ladies x not liking this new look mobile site why did they have to mess with it? Lol x
Had scan yesterday & need another one in 2 weeks, baby's gaining a steady amount of weight even though fluid is still low, still on 10th centile she weighs 5lb 2 apparently which seems okay? fed up of the hospital though, I know they're only looking after us but it's like our second home, up there weekly for traces on baby & fortnightly for scans, haven't been able to relax it's just been one thing after another x

Teabiscuits · 21/08/2014 17:04

polka I had the same issue of seeing a different bloody doctor after every growth scan (although ours were because baby was small). I found the only way round it was to refuse to move until they have explained themselves and answered your questions.

missbright how many weeks are you? Baby Emma was induced at 37 weeks due to slow growth (and other risk factors for us). 36 week scan they guessed 4 lb 14 oz, born at 37+2 weighing 5lb 9 so tiny but she's doing just fine at 3 days old Smile.

whiteblossom · 21/08/2014 17:08

Polka, Polka, Polka Grin It does bug the way they (any medical person we rely upon for information and support and guidance) just shrug everything off, do they not realise that we need someone who knows what they are doing/talking about to reassure us!!

FWIW I think the weight sounds ok, however you are going back for another scan. I suggest you go armed with a list of questions. Its a real shame you wont get a pool birth- has that definatly been veeto'd?

Miss B, you sound positive, how many weeks are you now? I can understand that the hospital feels like a second home!

I really don't like the mobile set up either.

Ive had my second lot of reflexology this morning so hoping that's working its magic...the lady that does it is also a mw at my hospital- told me she's working this weekend Grin I was able to ask her loads of questions about the equipment/pool at the hospital and what they can do for me and I feel a whole lot better about things now. I was also concerned about my hands- they feel swollen and stiff, like sausage fingers and my hands itch but she said it sounds far more like Carpal Tunnel so again she made me feel so much better.

Ella FWIW I think you have handled the GD very well, not too much longer now. X
