lila35 · 19/08/2014 08:48

wiggly and phryn thinking of you today, I've also got my first scan, I'm 7+4 today and just hoping there's something going on.

I'm a hairdresser and I've never seen anyone's hair react differently due to pregnancy and every hairdresser I have known has coloured their hair throughout pregnancy. If however you are concerned you could always go down the highlighted route if you have an on scalp application as then you have no skin contact, although I'm of the opinion that it doesn't get absorbed into your skin/blood supply as that would be bad news for everyone not just pg ladies.

I've had a terrible nights sleep, busy busy head mulling over the possibility of a bad result today. Don't you just wish you could switch it off sometimes??

Rustyzilla · 19/08/2014 09:10

Good luck to those wih scans today Flowers

Whoever (sorry on phone so hard to check back) asked about looking awful and weight gain - yes! I am spotty, grey with dark circles under my eyes and fat! Some of that is my own fault because I already needs to shift some holiday weight before I fell, but some is bloating and the fact that I feel constantly peckish! I ordered some bigger bras last night as although boobs don't seem much bigger yet my ribcage feels like it's expanding. Am 6+5.

When is it acceptable to start trying out mat clothes?! Grin

bohoec · 19/08/2014 09:29

Hi all. This group is huge, I can't keep up! My stats have fallen off the list, so here they are again: 31, expecting DC #2 EDD 27 April (by my calculations!). DP is 31, been together 5 1/2 years and live in the Midlands.

First timers - I'm afraid I had sickness right throughout the day from about five weeks until 18 or 19. I didn't feel to bad, but I was sick. A lot.

I'm not telling anyone in RL anytime soon, because last time it was made public quite early (confusion with the MIL, genuine mistake, but it meant everyone knew from about eight weeks). It's not for any reason other than it made my last pregnancy feel very loong (and I was three weeks early!).

My only skin tip is to try to drink lots of water. I have dry not oily skin, so I use a tiny amount of coconut oil to moisturise (I use it for everything!). That'd be no good for oily skin though.

Good luck to those with scans today. The first trimester is a very tough time. Hope everyone has lots of support in RL. If not, feel free to come on here and we can be your gang Smile

bohoec · 19/08/2014 09:31

Oh, and I too am being a greedy chops! I usually follow a fairly low carb WOE but I've had three pieces of toast already and it's only 9:30am! My mantra last time was to keep active but eat whatever my body seemed to want.

littleluna89 · 19/08/2014 09:31

I was starting to look big over the weekend, my boobs are exploding out of my bra and I fit quite well into a size 16 skirt despite normally being 12-14 however jumping on the scales says I've actually lost weight, and my belly is a bit flatter today too, think it's all that puking >.<

rusty I went on a trying things on spree in jojo maman bebe last week, but hubby wants me to wait until we've had the scan to buy maternity clothes if possible.

GinRickey · 19/08/2014 09:37

Good luck for the scans this morning, thinking of you all.

I am actually a bit thinner in the mornings (apparently I was getting most of my calories from wine, blue cheese and undercooked meat) but then I bloat up horrendously during the day, so if I put trousers or a skirt on they fit fine in the morning and are really uncomfortable after lunch. I'm going to have to start shunning waistbands.

ChickenMe · 19/08/2014 09:38

Glad I am not the only one who feels fat! bohoec I try to be low carb usually too. But I have been eating gluten free bread. Some days I can only stomach the carby stuff. I ordered a chicken madras and couldn't eat it :"(

My skin is crap! Really dry! Almond oil has been helping a bit. I will try coconut oil as suggested by someone else.

I'm normally a twelve. The midwife said I was overweight! I replied "no I'm not I've just got heavy bones". Lol. Those weight for height charts are stupid-err I'm pregnant hello?!?

cinnamongreyhound · 19/08/2014 09:40

Thinking of you WigglyBraddins, Phyrn and lila35!

Wow littleluna89, sounds like you had it all! Great the despite that you have a healthy dd and you're here to do it all again :). My friends baby stopped growing at 28 weeks but no one picked it up until she got pre eclampsia and went in to be induced early. She then also had pph (didn't know the acronym Blush) and had several units of blood. It does sound to me as though you may be under clc.

ChickenMe I'm very bloated by the end of the day but ok at the start. I haven't gained any weight so far but according to dh I'm grey most of the time!! My hair got super greasy with ds2 but seems ok this time so far. I used dry shampoo as it looked like I hadn't washed it for days within half an hour of it drying but that only lasted until 20 weeks.

I forced myself out for a run yesterday as I felt terrible but it really did make me feel better. Definitely recommend exercise for those feeling sick, a walk outside at lunch time or an evening swim really helped me when I was pregnant with ds1.

cinnamongreyhound · 19/08/2014 09:49

My bmi was 35 with ds2 ChickenMe and the midwife looked at me and said you'll be ok it's all in your thighs!! That is true but still meant I had to have clc! I was heavier with ds1 but it wasn't one of the nhs guidelines then. What annoyed me the most is that I actually lost weight with both pregnancies and although I was less at full term with both no one ever weighed me again and I was still considered high risk. They offered me a dietician which I declines as I knew why I was overweight! Plus I was highly recommended to have a gtt which was normal but a pain to have done. I know people who've put on several stone while Pregnant and there's not an issue at all but in actual fact they could have been more overweight than I was at birth but no one is interested. It's all down to what they have written and there's no flexibility! Sorry that got a bit ranty Blush now my bmi is 24 so within normal and I am definitely healthier but it really doesn't give the whole picture. mariusz pudzianowski's bum must be through the roof but there's not an bit of fat on him!!

There are so many of us! I'm in Surrey if anyone else is nearby.

I'm so glad to have found somewhere to talk to people about this. My husband is definitely saying all the wrong things (or at least I think they're wrong!!).

Really ought to make an appointment with the doctors I think.

Has anyone bought any books yet? I thought I knew roughly what was what, but the more I read, I realise the less I know.

Thanks for adding me Sairie, and congratulations Thanks

Minstrelle others will have other opinions, but my advice is not to read too many books. The mumsnet pregnancy book is quite good because it's fairly objective. But there are so many that

bohoec · 19/08/2014 11:12

Oops, posted too soon (I've never done that before!)

...
There are so many books that peddle one narrow way of thinking about pregnancy, parenting and childhood. Let your instincts in and listen to them. Read, sure, but just take the bits that chime with you and ignore the rest. I'm sure you know more that you think Wink

cinnamongreyhound · 19/08/2014 11:22

I had 'your pregnancy week by week' by dr Curtis and Judith schuler with ds1 Minstrelle. It's American so some things are not quite how it happens here but I found it very useful. You will get the nhs one when you have your booking appointment which has some useful info in it. I think the pregnancy ones tend to be quite similar but agree with bohoec, once you get to baby books they definitely generally have a specific idea and tend to not touch on others. I had the wonder weeks which was good, although I disagreed with some and I think how not to f* them up is great as it looks at all different types of mums :)

Is how not to f*!k them up a book?! It sounds like my approach Wink

I'm revising history a little bit here. I did read a lot of books before I reached the conclusion that I personally was better off not reading them. My NCT pals loved the week by week one, and anything with 90s photos of pregnant women is worth thumbing through Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 19/08/2014 11:40

Yes it is, compares different mothering approaches and why they work and don't work and tries to make you understand why other mothers do what they do and perhaps adopt some aspects of mothering that aren't in your kind. Basically there are three it talks about 'the organiser', 'the hugger' and 'the fleximum' who's a combination of the two :)

WigglyBraddins · 19/08/2014 11:43

Thank you ladies for all your kind thoughts. Unfortunately this time isn't meant to be. I'm not too sad tho because we'd only been TTC for 4 cycles & this has happened v early. At least it shows I still have eggs & DH still has sperm!

Wishing you all happy, healthy & trouble-free pregnancies & straightforward births smile

WigglyBraddins · 19/08/2014 11:45

That was meant to be Smile, not smile!

cinnamongreyhound · 19/08/2014 11:46

So sorry to hear your news WigglyBraddins, glad you are not too sad but make sure you take time for yourself. Take care Thanks

littleluna89 · 19/08/2014 11:50

Oh I'm so sorry wiggly hopefully you won't have too long to wait befor a bean sticks. Good luck! Xx

Phryn · 19/08/2014 11:50

Morning ladies.

Scan was okay - but officially "inconclusive". The think I had a long cycle when I conceived and the scan showed what looks like a gestational sack (measuring 2.4mm) but due to its size I need to go back in 10 days and be rescanned. My spotting has now stopped - so they suggested it could have been implantation bleeding. I have another appt on Friday 29th Aug where hopefully they will be able to see more.

I'm pleased with the outcome but it feels a bit like going back in time. I might be 5 or 6 weeks pregnant not 7. I know that's just how it is, but knowing that miscarriage rates drop each week you remain pregnant makes going backwards feel more concerningConfused . Not that there is anything I can do about it! Roll on the next 10 days! Smile

Good luck to Wiggly and Lila. Thinking of you both.

In terms of books I really rate Expecting Better by Emily Oster www.amazon.co.uk/Expecting-Better-Conventional-Pregnancy-Wisdom/dp/1409142310. She's an economist who was fed up with unclear and Nanny-state style advice to would be mums so she analysed the data herself and gives you a summary of the info to help you make your own mind up from everything from alcohol during pregnancy, testing etc. I'm finding it really helpful, especially as it's clear, readable and unpatronising.

I've also downloaded the Ovia Pregnancy app which gives you daily info about the beanie's development. It also has a food and medication checker (to see if safe for pregnancy) that is good but does tend to err on the side of caution.

Phryn · 19/08/2014 11:55

Just seen you post Wiggly. So sorry to hear your news - but you're right that it does show that eggs and sperm are around to do their thang. I hope the waiting for the next BFP and sticky bean isn't too painful or too long. Hope also you can get good support from people IRL who can help take care of you and be there for you in whatever way you need. Thanks

bohoec · 19/08/2014 11:56

So sorry to hear that Wiggly. Thanks for you. Good to hear your positive approach. Sending you back lots of positive thoughts for when you hop back on a bus again. I hope it goes well for you next time x

HippoPottyMouth · 19/08/2014 12:01

Very sorry to hear your news, wiggly, best of luck for the future.
