Boo :(

Honestly I think mine is mainly down to the fact that I've been dairy free for a good few months now and my appetite isn't the greatest.

How many weeks are you now missus?

Missus2ndwife · 27/08/2014 13:35

31 weeks today and proud Grin
What about you mum2?

mum2kiss · 27/08/2014 13:38

33+3 and now scared that 6 weeks is not long enough to turn this baby around the right way! I refuse to have a back to back labour. ..I will cross my legs if I have to lol!

You've still got a good while to get some hydrotherapy in if you still want to do it missus. I only started last week

YellowWellies · 27/08/2014 13:55

Mum2 that's bags of time to turn a b2b. Good luck I do hope you're spared another. Maybe get some knee and elbow pads for telly watching? Maybe a beanbag to slump on?

I'm quite chuffed as I thought my 2 stone weight gain in pregnancy must have caused my GD (though I put on more with J and didn't get it - you still feel its something you've 'done wrong' to cause it) but the MW said today "well its clearly not lifestyle factors as you are lovely and slim" for a cetacean hahahaha no one mention my previous brioche and tiramisu banquets or her need to go to Specsavers! Blush Still its nice to hear even if utterly not credible. I noticed when walking down the long corridors at work yesterday that folk are double taking at my bump before looking at me Confused .

On measurements - I've been consistently measuring 3 weeks ahead but since going breech bump has been measuring spot on. Now my diet changes might have slowed growth but more likely I think its the baby's position.

YellowWellies · 27/08/2014 14:00

I'm almost starting to dare hope I might labour 'naturally' (by which I mean going into labour naturally, I intend to make use of whatever pain relief I decide on the day) rather than needing a CS or induction - I hope that's not jinxed it!

binkybunny · 27/08/2014 14:05

Yellow I've noticed people staring at my bump before looking at me. I've also noticed how even after clocking the huge bump, people seemed quite happy to walk full tilt into me or literally push past me in the service stations. Do these people not realise how unbalancing it is being so front heavy?!

My food intake today has been wedding cake for breakfast and beans with veggie sausages for lunch. I am now Sat on the sofa in vest top and pants feeling like a complete slob trying to talk myself into driving into town to buy some proper food for dinner and foil containers for batch/ freezer cooking. (but instead keep thinking of having a second piece of cake Blush )

gunwalloe · 27/08/2014 14:07

Had my growth scan today shes slowed down so I will be having another one in two weeks. baby currently weighs 5lb 8 according to there measurements. Blood pressure high again and now protein so that along with these headaches ive been having means ive had to have a pre eclampsia blood test results will be back tomorrow so fingers crossed everything is ok.

Midwife couldn't really explain why my body was deciding to have strong Braxton hicks after 4 other pregnancys with none she did say to keep a eye on them though incase something kicks of and I don't realise.

Ive lost 2.5 stone now this preg ( I was overweight to start with) so im well chuffed I will need a new wardrobe after babys here :)

binkybunny · 27/08/2014 14:07

Forgot what I was actually going to write! Those of you who have FF, how many bottles did you need? I'm going to try BF but TBH the more I read and speak to people, the more I think we'll end up either just FF or doing combined so I'd like to be prepared, even if we don't buy everything until needed.

Missus2ndwife · 27/08/2014 14:08

Mum2 - lots of inverted positions for you!! On your knees, bum in the air and rest on your elbows. I've heard scrubbing floors helps too Smile you have plenty of time to turn the bubba so try not to get anxious about it Wink

mum2kiss · 27/08/2014 14:10

Ooh wedding cake sounds nice! Yum ;)

I had a bowl of cornflakes, bag of crisps and 4 jelly sweets for lunch...super nutritious!

I want something else now though...blueberry pancakes...mmmmm

Missus2ndwife · 27/08/2014 14:11

Gunwalloe - how far along are you? The weight loss sounds amazing but sorry to hear you're having complications. Will the MW be monitoring you BP regularly now?

gunwalloe · 27/08/2014 14:14

35-1 missus

oh god I would kill for any kind of cake having GD is a b...h!

gunwalloe · 27/08/2014 14:15

If the blood test comes back clear she said it would be ok for the rest of the pregnancy.

binkybunny · 27/08/2014 14:19

Sorry about mentioning cake for those with GD. Didn't think, should be more understanding Blush

gunwalloe · 27/08/2014 14:24

:) binky you don't have to not mention yummys on my account I will be munching on all the bad things once babys here not to many though as I don't want to undo all the good things the GD diet has done

I cant help you on your bottles Q as ive never used them

mum2kiss · 27/08/2014 14:35

I'd say 6-8 bottles would do binky. We bf but also used expressed milk and I gave Dd fennel water to help with colic before we eventually went on to formula from 6 months. I also got a couple of the small 150 ml bottles for the early days when they only drink 3-4oz at a time...

So my midwife talked about after birth care today and said due to the high birth rate and shortage of staff they no longer do home visits. I will have to take baby to the hospital on day 3 to be weighed, day 5 for the heel prick and day 10 to be formally discharged! Oh joy!

gunwalloe · 27/08/2014 14:50

That's terrible mum2 what area are you in?

Shirehobbit · 27/08/2014 14:57

That's ridiculous, mum2 - what if you don't have transport, or post birth or section issues Shock

I know you guys talked about it over the weekend, but I was away in a reception-free black hole, but community midwife care is pretty shocking around here. After pretty much two years of being pregnant, I have only seen the same midwife on more than one occasion, twice. And I've seen over fifteen different ones at the last count.
I finally snapped and registered for a private company called 1-2-1 Midwives so I could have some kind of continuity of care (it is a free service, paid for by the NHS, ironically - because it costs them less in the long run with less interventions etc).
We had real issues with bf last time and ended up readmitted with 20% weight loss and failure to thrive - the idea of going through that again, never knowing which midwife was going to call each day, was stressing me out. This way I feel we'll have more support and understanding.

Lily31 · 27/08/2014 14:59

Babyonboard welcome, I'm a newbie too, but I'm finding this board makes me feel better about the gripes and worries. I'm guessing you are a Londoner like me, though I could be wrong...

Osteopath was great this afternoon, and she gave me some acupuncture needles too. Never had acupuncture before, but I couldn't really feel anything, it was less than the sensation of having your blood taken. I will definitely try it again.

I keep thinking about the birthing ball thing. My hospital has them in the delivery rooms, so I'm not sure if I need one before the birth :-S

I keep thinking of things, then not writing them down and then forgetting. Eh well, as long as I put my shoes on the right foot and brush my hair before leaving the house, I feel like I've done well.

binkybunny · 27/08/2014 15:07

Thanks mum we have 2 small ones already that we freebies from various things, will look at supplementing with another 4.

That's awful about your post care. I know we don't get home visits here but thankfully I live around the corner from the doctors where I'll need to go.

YellowWellies · 27/08/2014 15:07

Mum2 that's shit! Sad Where I am is a sad departure from the wonderful care I got on Orkney (think daily visits for a fortnight after from a MW or HV who had time to help with the washing up, nappy changes and general chat!), but that's so harsh. I wouldn't want to take a 3 day old out and about to get autumn bugs. I'm so sorry x

mum2kiss · 27/08/2014 15:23

I live in Berkshire...

When I had Dd I had home visits so this is all very new! My sis had to do it with her last and she said she really did not want to go outside on day 3 at all but didn't have much choice! The midwife didn't day what would happen if I'd had a section...I guess they'd have to send someone if I wasn't particularly mobile...she also said they now call you after they send you home to make sure you got there ok and to see how you're getting on...

She also said they now give the babies a TB jab at birth...have any of you heard of this?!

Something that did make sense is that they now generally leave the cord to finish pulsating before cutting it after birth...she said I could then choose if to take the injection or deliver it without assistance.

magichandles · 27/08/2014 15:29

Yellow - I was pleased last time I saw the diabetic nurse as she said she wasn't at all worried about my weight gain, which was a bit of a relief. I've definitely put on less this pregnancy than I did with DC2 - my face hasn't puffed out at all yet.

Bump is huge though, I'm quite glad I've got a growth scan this afternoon as I really want to know what is going on - didn't end up having MW appointment yesterday as expected as the afternoon diabetic clinic doesn't have MWs - no wonder it is a lot quicker! We're away next week as well, so I won't be seeing a MW for another fortnight, and I really wanted to discuss booking my induction as my Dad has an eye op booked for the week I'm 38 weeks and my parents would normally be the ones who look after the DC.

My morning levels are still stubbornly high, not horrendous, but just not coming down and meaning I have to snack every hour in the mornings to offset the insulin or I hypo, which is just rubbish.

porcito · 27/08/2014 15:53

Fingers crossed gun!

My baby's still transverse, not going anywhere. She's probably taking lessons from her mothet given I've spent most of this pregnancy sprawled over various soft furnishings.

The doctors did that whole furrowed brow, closer look followed by a 'don't worry' for the small measurements. Of course I worried. My main concern is there's something wrong that wadn't picked up as they don't do the blood tests for Down's Syndrome etc. here, theu just look for markers in scans. Or that I've managed to acquire toxoplasmosis or something terrible from my 2nd trimester addiction to burgers. 5 weeks can't come soon enough!

Today we have no electricity, which is making everything particularly joyful Grin

SummerDreams13 · 27/08/2014 16:12

Agh mum, that sounds dreadful! I've seen the same community midwife all the way through, but to be honest, haven't felt lots of value- she spends a lot of time laughing at me (!) and telling me info doesn't exist on the queries I'm raising eg when they did Downs screening and it was low, I asked how common it would be for women of my age to have a Downs child to work out if I should have further test- she said there's no stats and I shouldn't fret...really? No stats at all? Hard to feel v reassured...am sort of hoping I get somebody else post natally!
