Just cracked up as was making breakfast in the kitchen and Whisky in the Jar was on the radio so put the belly right up to the speaker and got some massive kicks - i'm pretty sure he was saying sod off :) Or perhaps he'll be a Metallica fan!

smallmeades · 27/08/2014 09:35

Morning everyone! Has anyone else had a really tender tummy? I'm heading towards 34 weeks and last night woke up with a painful belly (can't really describe what it was like, possibly Braxton hicks?!) and this morning it feels like when you've had a sick bug and your tummy is sore and tender. Baby moving lots so don't know if that's got something to do with it! Not worried particularly, just not experienced it before so wondered if anyone else has.

On a different note I'm off to buy things for my hospital bag today, think I'm probably quite sad but am really excited! Feeling very real now!

Hope everyone is doing ok :-)

fedupofrainydays · 27/08/2014 09:50

There was no way I could sit through a meal or class with my contractions!!

missus I have the theraline pillow this pregnancy and I love it. Used just normal pillows last pregnancy but feel much more supported this time with this pillow.

hefner · 27/08/2014 10:00

On the subject of changing bags, I used this one last time and will be using it again for the newborn stage. It's a bit bulky but has plenty of room. When dd was older we switched to a pushchair with a smaller basket so I started using the free bag from Boots, or a skip hop type thing in a normal bag. More recently I've been using this - it's not really a changing bag but it's big enough to hold dd's snacks, drinks, spare clothes and potty! They currently have a code (Ella40A) for 40% off the Ella collection until 31st August.

hefner · 27/08/2014 10:06

JellyBeans that cover looks great, but I'll try to resist buying for now as I never really got on with a sling/carrier when dd was small. I'm planning to try again this time, I think I'll go to the sling library once I start mat leave to get tips on how to use my Moby wrap.

binkybunny · 27/08/2014 10:12

Think the weekend has caught up with me, just had 11 hours sleep only broken by one wee and a few painful roll overs. I'm back at work tomorrow for my last 5 days, wishing I had just started mat leave after hols though as I Def could do this for the next 5 weeks!

Going to buy lots of foil containers today so I can start freezer cooking next week. Thanks for the links. I'm also going to bake my Christmas cake which hopefully I'll find time to decorate in December.

Question about the babywearing coats/covers. Can I not just dress the baby in her own waterproof coat/ snowsuit rather than covering her? I hadn't really thought about getting a specific coat until someone posted it.

Shirehobbit · 27/08/2014 10:34

I think it depends on lots of things, Binky - you have to remember that your body heat does a lot to keep your baby warm when carrying, which is why an external, removable cover can be more useful to whip on/off as needs be.
DS is a proper little radiator, so less has always been more with him!

binkybunny · 27/08/2014 10:54

Thanks shire hadn't thought about that. Our baby list is never ending, unlike our money for baby things which is as our stupid cars have cost us a small fortune recently! Angry

HopefulHamster · 27/08/2014 11:01

Jellybeans I bought that cover for my son and it came in handy in the really cold months. However (might be useful for Binky ) I also used ponchos that either buttoned up or had a really big neck hole to cover us both and I had a really oversized zip up hoody from pregnancy that could fit over us as well. Bird cage umbrellas are handy for rain.

And Shire is right - babies get v warm while carrying so I wouldn't put them in a snow suit, best to keep them relatively warm but not uber toasty, with extra layers on both of you that can be moved as necessary.

You might need to watch for legs and head of course. There are some cheap leg huggers (baby leg warmers) on ebay at the moment - I bought a few for babywearing as trousers tend to rise up when they're seated. And booties/mocassins are good too.

Missus2ndwife · 27/08/2014 11:10

Thanks Lily!! I've had the pillow between my legs and also wake up with it on the floor! I might place one under my tummy tonight as I definitely think he was feeling a little squashed last night.

Just had leftover pasta for brekkie and I don't feel bad for not eating properly.. Well not much Wink

binkybunny · 27/08/2014 11:13

missus I'm about to raid the freezer for breakfast as we have nothing edible in the house. Hope I find something, if not it's going to be wedding cake Blush

Lily31 · 27/08/2014 11:28

Hefner thanks for those tips - the Mia Tui changing bags are reasonable if you can get 40% off them. Might even go for a glam one in either muted gold or silver.

NP Missus, I had fruit and bread with jam, which came straight back up... ?!? Keeps happening at the moment, can't work out if it is hormones, trying to eat too much in one go with little stomach space or painkillers for PGP?? Eh well. Osteopath here I come. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Binky - sounds like what I've got. Be careful not to push it at work, I've been told not to go in. Not walking about as much has really helped to ease it. I know that it's not always possible though. Not too long to go for you though... I have to try and go back in next week for another 3 weeks. Tubes are the most horrid prospect for me atm! Keep telling myself that it's such a short period of time for such a special thing and I will have forgotten all about it in a few weeks time.

YellowWellies · 27/08/2014 11:32

I found the star blanket very useful for baby wearing. Just open the front up so their chest isn't too warm. The ergo already has a built in rain hood which also helps to stop sleepy baby heads lolling when you walk.

As for sitting in a class or restaurant whilst in labour I think it depends about the frequency of contractions. I had two hours where they were every 5-10 minutes and could probably have coped. I was just having a cuppa on my birthing ball, putting a load of washing on, ringing work to announce sorry I'd not be in, while DH ran around like a headless chicken packing the car. But from 2-22 hours where they were every 2 minutes - ha not a chance. I have a cousin who still moans about her 'devastating' 3 day labour. For 2 and 3\4 days her contractions were irregular, at most hourly and they never stopped her sleeping. I think realistically she had a 2 and 3/4 day pre labour and was only in active labour for 8 hours (even then her contractions were 10 minutes apart!). But she's a bit of a princess so she'd never entertain such thoughts!

I've just had GD clinic, obstetrician and MW. Baby still breech, am going on metformin tablets, if baby turns they're happy to let me go naturally - if not then emergency section should my waters go. I said if we get to 36 weeks I'm booking an elective section and the obstetrician seemed happy enough.

JustGotMyBabyOnBoardBadge · 27/08/2014 11:35

Can I join in too?? Have lurked a bit but the thread has always moved too fast for my pregnancy brain to get a handle on!!

Due with my first on Halloween so might fall into either October or November depending on when this little one wants to pop out Smile however judging by the belly gymnastics she was up to last night she is getting ready to rock'n'roll!!

Missus2ndwife · 27/08/2014 11:47

Lily I have really bad acid reflux and keep bringing up my dinner in the middle night!! These are the glamorous parts of pregnancy no one tells you about!

I have started having acupuncture for my spd/ pgp which I am finding very helpful actually. I can walk normally for 4 days and then it starts creeping back in. Looking forward to this afternoon's session

Me23 · 27/08/2014 12:10

Got carpet fitter here now hope it doesn't take too long I need to get into kitchen and make lunch.

I wish I could afford a pregnancy massage or reflexology but have spent too much this pay cheque! May see if next month may treat myself.

It's my OH bday next month baby may well arrive then as will be just gone 37 weeks! Think we are going to try to go for dinner but will see can't make concrete plans!

My uterus is becoming more uncomfortable by the day have been getting Braxton hicks and stitch type pain plus back ache.

Also still have this blinking cold been over a week now damn pregnancy lowered immune system!

mum2kiss · 27/08/2014 12:12

Sounds good missus how often are you having acupuncture? I had hydrotherapy again this morning so now feel more like sleeping than working from home!

33 we midwife appointment this morning (should really be 34) and looks like baby is back to back (NOOOOOOOO! !!!) Just like Dd was! Time to get a birthing ball and spend my evenings on my elbows and knees! Oh joy...

I was really pleased to find I've only gained 7lbs so far this pregnancy. Considering I was already overweight this is a good thing!

Me23 · 27/08/2014 12:13

Went overboard with the exclamation points there Blush

YellowWellies · 27/08/2014 12:17

Mum23 argh! I'm not sure some of us are destined to have anything other than contrary LOs with a poor sense of direction. This one is not back to back again but is resolutely breech with their feet in my cervix. So awkward and dyspraxic - it has to be a girl after my own heart!

clops2000 · 27/08/2014 12:23

Hi everyone, wow things are moving fast on here!
I'm now 35 weeks and really feel like the 'big' stage of pregnancy is upon me! Still working on my dissertation though my motivation is zilch and I wish I had an actual date when my mat leave starts now. think I'm just going to make one up for myself a week or so before due date and call a stop to everything then. Want to start nesting and batch cooking but i'm hovering in between work and laziness and haven't yet found any productivity within me!
Carpal tunnel has been a real pain over last couple of weeks, had it before pregnancy and it disappeared once pregnant - seems to be back with avengance, really throbbing at night and keeping me awake. Also went for walk yesterday and like others have said, the body's no longer as agile and my pelvis is causing me to look like a right penguin waddler today! Lovely when people tell you your huge too, so I'm a fat penguin, nice.
Baby breech still, and moves to diagonal a lot too. Really want him to turn now. We're planning homebirth but will go for hospital if stays breech, but try to have natual delivery if possible so we can still use hypnotbirthing as much as poss.
Find the whole breastfeeding and babywearing topics a complete minefield still - went to bf support group yesterday which helped, but I'm considering these things as something to work out once he's arrived, with sling libraries and groups etc. Have enough on before that date - plasterers coming in a couple of weeks then it will be a painting marathon to make sure we have a usable room for birthing!
Finally put carpet down and cot up in baby's room at weekend so at last we have a little sanctuary to go into - makes it feel so real at last! Hope everyone else with renovations happening feels the same soon.
Sprry for mammoth post! Can't wait to start hearing about babies starting to arrive on here, its so real now!

mum2kiss · 27/08/2014 12:55

All this decorating and building work makes me feel anxious and they're not even going on in my house! I don't know how you ladies are doing it! I would implode!

Does anyone have a birthing ball already?! It seems when I look up gym balls I am faced with different sizes! 55 cm, 65cms and 75 cm. ..which one do I need! I'm not tall so thinking maybe 65cms?!

Midwife also asked me if I have the car seat yet! Didn't realise that was on their lost of things to ask. With all the moaning and fretting I've been doing over the lack of buggy and car seat it made me feel empowered to come home and tell dp "see even the midwife thinks we should have it by now!"

Agree with buggerlugs I bought a cheap 55cm one recently from amazon as I couldn't remember what one I got last time! (I'm 5ft 2) it was crap too small and flimsy the kids ended up playing with it luckily it was only £6. Will have a look in to maxx

mum2kiss · 27/08/2014 13:22

Thanks bugs :) will take a look in tk maxx

Missus2ndwife · 27/08/2014 13:26

Mum2 - having acupuncture weekly and it definitely does work and wonder if I should still get a referral from GP for hydrotherapy? I'm envious of your weight loss/ gain of 7lbs since I've now put on a stone and my consultant is going to go ape at me next week as I was meant to lose weight!! Aaargghh
Apparently baby weighs 4lbs now but even my MW has warned me to expect the wrath of my consultant
Booooooooo!!!! Confused
