Binky glad everything ok.
When I was on labour ward having ds there was one very loud lady. Me later said baby arrived within 10 mins of her arriving at hospital! DH was surprised at how quiet I was !
I've just phoned mw. I'm getting blurry eyes and keep seeing flashing lights or black spots. Very odd but after having pre eclampsia with ds though I should call. She said she's too busy to come & see me as she's covering for other members of staff that are off but I have an appt for 2mrw so she can't be too worried hopefully.

ohthegoats · 20/08/2014 14:36

Actually, the most annoying bit of all these pictures is that the woman giving birth has so many people touching her - not necessarily where she needs to be touched either. Just hands on faces, being hugged, or holding thighs or something.... grrrr, that would make me SO cross. I don't want to be touched when I'm in pain, I want to be left alone. No fucked mopping my brow. I feel really irritated for them!

YellowWellies · 20/08/2014 14:44

Goats noone will mop your brow or hug you if you don't want. A sharply delivered "get your f*cking hands off me!" should work Smile

Loulou888 · 20/08/2014 14:52

DH was really lonely on first birth with dd didn't really say anything and I wouldn't let him "down there" with ds he was. Bit braver and actually said "come on push" think he had a few short sharpe swear words and shut up.

ohthegoats · 20/08/2014 14:53

Most of the pics are of the whole homebirth 'bloke involved' thing though, so I suppose they WANT all that lovey dovey stuff. I doubt there would be much call for a photo of a screaming harpy on her hands and knees pooing, with a terrified looking bloke standing nervously in the corner.

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 20/08/2014 15:04

DH remained head end last time and I think he intends to do the same this time. I think I would quite like to see what's happening down there but would probably just end up scaring myself!

Had anyone heard of the purple line theory? Apparently when a woman is in labour a purple line appears in her bum crack & gets longer the further dilated she is! Its supposed to be an alternative method of checking for dilation, would love to know if this is real! me, any experience of this?

I hate the amount of people touching the woman in labour too Goats, I held onto my DH for support but would have hated any massaging/brow mopping etc! I always cringe on OBEM when you see a person holding back each thigh, then another stroking hair or whatever, it just looks so OTT!

mrsb87 · 20/08/2014 15:07

Thanks everyone, my day didn't get better to be honest! The whole BOH computer system hasn't worked all day and then the security on the door between the shop floor and the letter staff area has stopped working for some reason. I'm home now so I've put my feet up and now scoffing some crisps.
I'm meant to be going to her house for a drink for her birthday later, not sure of that's wise or not really! I'm not overly in country of my mouth these days, lol.

mum hydrotherapy sounds lovely! Go get yourself some choccy, sounds like you deserve it!

binky I'm glad your little girl is all ok, they do like to frighten us sometimes and I feel it isn't going to get any better after they're born either!

My MWs used the purple line to check I was fully dilated. Even DH saw it and commented on how obvious it was. I think its used pretty commonly as an indicator.

Argh fecking finger prick blood test have just done it 5 times and not got enough blood for my fecking blood glucose meter to read!!!!! Envy Am going to have to wait until 2.40 and do a 2 hours post meal test. If I can get some blood this time Envy Envy Envy Envy Envy

magichandles · 20/08/2014 16:25

DH missed the key moment when DD was born, he went for a wee and couldn't find his way back (to be fair to him, I was being prepped for a CS at the time and no-body was expecting me to be giving birth vaginally).

I'm pretty sure he stayed non-business end for DS - he's never mentioned otherwise anyway!

Shirehobbit · 20/08/2014 17:18

I was more mooing cow than shouter/screamer, last time.
DH did really well, despite his innate squeamish tendencies, until my haemorrhage - then he nearly hit the deck.

LondonJen · 20/08/2014 17:38

'surely it's just shit and piss everywhere?' Oh that made me laugh so much, think that's what mine's expecting too! It's certainly not going to be pretty though I do hope it's not quite that literal Grin

Shock Hmm yellow that's a good point I already had to ask dp to stop using the phrase 'stabby fanjo pains' with other people.

Mine is adamant he doesn't want to cut the cord. I think that's fair enough as I wouldn't be keen myself. However, I do wonder if he will change his mind at the time.

Oo interesting re purple line, never heard that before.

mum2kiss · 20/08/2014 18:03

My physiotherapist offered me the hydrotherapy sessions happy. If your hospital has a hydrotherapy pool they may offer the same sort of sessions.

This is the support belt I have
www.med-fit.co.uk/deluxe-maternity-belt.html

Postage is a bit pricey considering the belt isn't heavy or expensive but hey Ho!

goats no need to worry about being touched. I hate being touched when I'm hot or in pain and I think my general demeanour was enough to alert anyone with a brain cell to steer clear! One thing that had to come off was the sodding TENS machine though! Not recommended at 8cm dilated is all I can say!

mum2kiss · 20/08/2014 18:04

Any one had problems posting today? I've been trying that last post for over an hour!

Kirstipops · 20/08/2014 18:09

DH and I haven't even talked really about what "end" he'll go, probably up at my end since I sent him off to the shop when I was having a speculum examination on Friday in the hospital Grin. He's kinda worriedly asked if I wanted him to cut the cord, which I hadnt even thought but I'm not particularly bothered about, I would like if it was he who announced boy or girl though :)
It's quite cute how impressed he is with random baby facts he discovers, like when I said baby poop is allegedly not quite as reeky as formula poop, he went all wide-eyed and suggested I therefore breastfeed til potty training time :-P
I want to cloth nappy as well so given that he is pretty hesitant to even change the cat litter he is being thrown in at the deep end Grin

Kirstipops · 20/08/2014 18:10

Yep mum2kiss, looks like they've been working on the website, the browser looks a bit more flash!

YellowWellies · 20/08/2014 18:45

Sadly Kirsti even if you BF their poo turns rank at 6 months or whenever you start to introduce solid foods and purees. Its only sweet smelling when exclusively BF. J's poos are GRIM! He farts like an old bloke now Smile

Kirstipops · 20/08/2014 19:31

Haha yeah I did try to warn him of that, I meant I think DH fancied only feeding baby breastmilk til potty time!!! Grin

LondonJen · 20/08/2014 19:33

My fave comment from dp so far has been when I asked if he'd be packing his own snacks for hospital and he replied he wouldn't need to as he was going to get a kfc bucket like in that episode of Peep Show

Kirstipops · 20/08/2014 19:52

ohhhhhh.....Zinger burger....

mrsb87 · 20/08/2014 20:09

Hmmmmmm KFC ......

OP posts:
mum2kiss · 20/08/2014 20:15

He plans to stop at a drive thru on the way then?! Lol! My dp made a comment about stopping off to get food on the way the other night...not sure why he thinks I'll be happy to labour in the back of the car while he pops to the shops!

YellowWellies · 20/08/2014 20:30

We popped to Tesco enroute to the hospital for snacks first time round and I was called in asap as he was prem so although it sounds Hmm. you may well feel fine doing that. I don't recommend pan au chocolat though. I vommed it for the next eight hours with each contraction! Grin Classy eh?

mum2kiss · 20/08/2014 20:46

I hated being in the car during contractions (which were every 2 mins), no way we're we stopping anywhere on the way! This time we need to deposit Dd with someone ...I'm tempted to take her with us to the hospital and then have someone pick her up from there lol!

Pregnantagain7 · 20/08/2014 21:06

Wow it's very busy I just had a quick catch up, we found a good compromise was dp watching from the side ie my shoulder he still got a good view of the babies coming out but not enough of a good view to see my piles or me shit myself Blush Grin

SweetPeaPods · 20/08/2014 21:33

DH said he'll be taking sandwiches this time. I actually drove myself to hospital last time at 4cm dilated not realising I was in labour so will be interesting to see how I am this time!!
My mum keeps warning me how much quicker labour could be this time so he better be quick making his sandwiches! I've got my Capri suns in the freezer so I'm sorted!!
