I do have a pointy tummy when I sit up off the sofa

I've just been in the consultant's talking about this. Apparently it WILL happen to me because I'm short and the baby has nowhere else to grow to - so it'll grow out. So far I've not noticed anything though.

Also, I've lost 3kg in weight. Texted boyfriend about how good that will be because I'll have less fat to lose afterwards, but he just told me it's probably loss of muscle where I've gone wobbly. Yeah, thanks! In all since I've got pregnant I've put on 3kg. Hahahaha... yes, a fatty before.

Talked to one of the consultants about feeling unfit in general. She did a study of pregnant women between 14 and 24 weeks pregnant, and apparently they (including her - she added herself in as a subject) lost 60% of their muscle condition in that time. Only 10 weeks! I didn't go in to detail about what that meant in real terms etc, but an interesting chat anyway. She said it's taken her a year to get it back.

She also said (in direct contrast to the midwife I'd just seen), that epidurals are AMAZING, she doesn't know why there isn't loads of research done into making those a fail safe form of pain control - ie, so they all able you to move around, top up yourself etc.

Then saw an obstetrician who said 'yeah, try and avoid an epidural... aim for water and G&A as your main pain relief, epidurals can be the start of things going wrong'. I dunno, mixed message morning!

Oh, and the good news for me is that baby is definitely head down, and they aren't going to consider inducing me at all (so long as things stay the same health wise) until 41 weeks. Which gives me a little longer than I thought I'd get.

LondonJen · 19/08/2014 12:09

littlewilliam I was weepy around 28 weeks and the mw said sleep will really help as tiredness exacerbates it. Having said that I blubbed a bit yesterday because dp suggested I was focussed on the birth and run up to it and not the bit afterwards. He didn't mean anything by it. But it felt like a judgement to get upset about to me!

That sounds a good informative morning goats if a little contradictory!

Can anyone help with this damn pile? It really hurts today. All the nhs website says is advice on not getting constipated, but I've not been! Is there a pregnancy ok cream worth the pain of a walk to the shops? Have tried a warm bath and ice but neither really helped. Left a message on the non-urgent midwife machine but might be a while till they call back Sad

LondonJen · 19/08/2014 12:10

And yes to pointy tum. I'm short so that's interesting. Also very much carrying to the front.

tak1ngchances · 19/08/2014 12:10

londonjen I totally sympathise about the piles. I've had a very painful one myself and the only thing that works is hydrocortisone. Proctofoam is amazing with instant relief but this is only available on prescription and I don't know if docs prescribe it when preg.
2nd best option and totally worked for me about 2 days ago when a pile with a pulse of its own was ruining my life with the pain, is anusol plus hc. You need to get it over the counter but the pharmacist may be reluctant to hand it over if you are preg although docs are happy to prescribe it. It is safe in preg and I'm taking it. Anyway I sent my dh to the chemist to pretend it was for him -thought it might be good for him to suffer some of the indignities of pregnancy- and when I got the ointment the relief was akmost instant and in 2 days its shrunk to not even be annoying.sorry if tmi but you must use the nozzle to squirt it up there even if the pile is on the outside cos that's what pulls it back in.
Or you could always ring your doc.
good luck and fingers crossed for you

gunwalloe · 19/08/2014 12:47

After being bad and missing my hospital appointment last week I saw my midwife today. Bps creeped up to 144/95 but no protein or headaches so shes leave me infact so happy shes not seeing me again as she said the hosp will likely see me weekly from now on due to the GD oh joy a hr long trip up there every week!

gunwalloe · 19/08/2014 12:49

londonjen ive got a nasty set of piles if I have a number 2 they bleed so much the water turns red scared the life out of me when I first noticed I had to do a mega check to make sure the blood was coming from the piles and nowhere else.

Captainmcgraw · 19/08/2014 12:51

yep to the pointy tummy and yep to being short. I had bad abdominal separation last time and it never really went back. My pregnancy yoga teacher was saying that whatever you do don't do sit ups until your muscles have gone back together (or as back together as they're going to go) as they don't help, can make the situation worse and won't help you get a flat stomach again. She said just normal use of abs and exercises on all fours (e.g. kitten or cat stretch if you are familiar with yoga) are far more useful. This is all for after the birth of course.

STIGZ · 19/08/2014 12:54

Anyone elses appetite disappeared again ? I fancy nothing at all, apart from curry or sweet things like yogurts & chocolate ., i usually love all vegetables have gone off them totally, im still taking my pregnancy vitamins & i am on iron but worried my lack of eating fruit & veg isnt good for my baby :( its like being back in first trimester !!

binkybunny · 19/08/2014 12:54

littlewilliam I felt miserable when I got in last night, I had a nice warm bath, put on my huge baggy nightie and had Dh cook me dinner. Felt lots better after and even managed 5 hours of sleep!

Feeling teary again today though as still tired, achey and just fed up of work Sad

Teary just seems to be a constant feeling with me when I'm doing anything other than nothing

ohthegoats · 19/08/2014 13:09

Stigz - yes. Haven't really had an appetite for 2 or 3 months - it's back to the first 12 weeks for me really. Instead of potato based carbs though, I've now moved on to only really wanting to eat sugar and wheat based carbs. But not really many of those either. I've lost some weight in the last month as a result, but no one seems worried. I'm just eating what I fancy, and if that's iced buns, then that's iced buns. I'm trying hard with the fruit - or sweet 'veg' like sweetcorn, tomatoes and baby cucumbers. Nectarines seem alright too. I noticed that I can eat cheese when I eat it with grapes or apples, so I'm trying that too. Totally gone off most dairy things like icecream or yoghurt. It's really weird, I normally love my food.

YellowWellies · 19/08/2014 13:19

Yes to being really careful with post birth exercise if you have the pointy tum / muscle separation - otherwise you risk a hernia! I didn't have it last time but do now. And I got my first stretch mark yesterday Envy booooo.

Shirehobbit · 19/08/2014 13:23

I don't know whether to laugh or cry - my Close Caboo arrived (yay!) but in the box were several Tena lady samples (weeps) Wink

My appetite has been very up and down, too. I'm just rolling with it and eating when I'm hungry.

Happytimes31 · 19/08/2014 13:38

really struggling with SI pain and SPD Sad I presume I am ok putting ice or gentle heat on, anyone have any suggestions?

Shirehobbit · 19/08/2014 13:43

Ice is generally for new (eg traumatic) injury to constrict the damaged vessels and help reduce swelling. Heat is for more chronic conditions, helping to ease spasms and promote blood flow to the area to aid repair.

Kirstipops · 19/08/2014 14:00

Oh I've got the pointy tum too! Since quite early on actually, I'm only 5ft4 but I have a long torso though.
Had my 34 wk hospital appointment yesterday so got my bloods and swab results back after my fun and games at the hospital on Friday, everything was clear and looks fine, so we've no idea why I had my little bleed which is a bit annoying but just glad everything is OK. Bp is down and no protein in my wizz this time so v. relieved about that.
I think I may have some beginnings of PGP though :( Can anyone recommend any bump bands to try?

fedupofrainydays · 19/08/2014 14:06

All this talk of muscle loss - my legs feel like jelly. I'm usually fit and toned. We just went on a walk in welsh hills and got lost. Had to climb back up out and it was such hard work - hauling myself around. Poor DH was carrying a rucsac, ds on his shoulders and pulling me up the hill at one point! It was fun though until I got lower bump ache again. Back on the sofa with tea and biscuits

I'm also up and down emotionally - and think it is linked to tiredness. So binky the slog at work will be making you cry, I was the same. I've got 3 days left next week then that's me done for work and so relieved.

My appetite has changed now too. Just most food is meh. Except feel like cakes and scones. Or cereal. First trimester it was all about crisp sandwiches and paninis. Now I don't want any of that. I've struggled with fruit and veg throughout. The only fruit I've enjoyed is mango. Or peach / nectarine. I was the same with ds though and he turned out ok!!

Shirehobbit · 19/08/2014 14:14

kirsti - I use a Cantaloop from John Lewis, it's not a miracle cure, but it helps Smile

ohthegoats · 19/08/2014 14:48

I was just saying to my mum that I'm not looking forward to going back to work in a couple of weeks (for three weeks). She told me to think of it as a 'relaxing time' while the house renovation goes nuts at home, and it's a horrible mess to live in. Yes mum, work is massively relaxing. That's why it's called 'work'. Ahem.

binkybunny · 19/08/2014 15:25

Ha ha Goats your mum sounds like mine. She keeps telling me to take it easy, just turn up and sit at my desk. Erm... I think seeing as she hasn't worked for 30 years that she has forgotten it doesn't really work like that!

fedup it's definitely tiredness from work or washing/ cleaning up that makes me emotional. I'm not even looking forward to having my hair cut tonight, I just want to go home, bath and eat. I have just been told on my last day all I have to do is tidy up my desk, go out for lunch then go home, so I only have 5 working days left now and 6 hours overtime to take, so they will be nice short days :)

mrsb87 · 19/08/2014 16:20

Oh my goodness the braxton hicks!!! Today they have been near enough constant all day. I've had a mixture of sitting and walking to try and get rid of them but they seem worse when I get up and wander around.
Yes to the pointy bump, I've got a really short body too, I'm 5"6 but I have a 34 inch leg. I am not well proportioned!
bingo I'm going cloth, I have a few newborn bumgenius' to try in the first few weeks buy aim to hire from a nappy library for a few weeks to see what brands etc we get on with. I posted the cloth wipes on fb, they're called cheeky wipes!

I've got a pointy stomach too, not surprising as I'm short. It happened with dd too and I don't think the gap closed fully before I got pregnant again.

I'm starting to feel a bit sick and only wanting certain types of food again. I didn't realise the nausea comes back at the end, don't remember it happening last time.

I really can't be bothered with work any more. 12 days to go, can't wait. People at work keep telling me about babies that came early, before they started mat leave - I don't want to hear that, I'll be gutted if I don't get my 2 weeks to laze around!

LondonJen · 19/08/2014 16:44

Thanks Claire and sorry to hear it gun eugh. So I took your advice and waddled down to Boots in my coat hoping they'd not spot the bump & refuse me. Woman at the pharmacy counter said it was just on the shelves. I said I'm sure it's usually behind the counter. She insisted not. So whether I have got the rubbish version I'm not sure! Tried Drs and nothing available til September!! So will try what I have and hope a cancelled appointment comes up.

Sorry Happy that sounds awful too.

Pregnantagain7 · 19/08/2014 16:52

Hi all sorry for those really feeling it these last few weeks are tough, we are the house of ill at the mo we've all had a vile d and bug only a 24hr thing but my god it was awful! At midnight last night I started getting the symptoms of a water infection and had to go to triage (not what i neede after a day of throwing up and being on the loo!) they have given me antibiotics and said to try and rehydrate myself as I'd not been able to keep any liquids down got home at half three and the kids got me up at seven I'm dreaming of my bed tonight!!

Also had my growth scan today and it confirmed what we already knew it's huge :)
Having another scan in two weeks and seeing consultant, the midwife I saw today said if it gets too big they would induce but the doctor I saw last time said they wouldn't Confused
I've got to the point where I can't be bothered stressing about it what will be will be :)

Missus2ndwife · 19/08/2014 17:30

Happytimes I am struggling too with spd!!

Added with the fact I got weighed today and have put on 7kgs now (I'm overweight & should be losing weight) but can't exercise because it hurts so much. I could actually cry.
