We will be at our house, and I think my mum, step dad and fil will be coming over for the day. They all live relatively locally so can be sent home at the end of the day and my mum has promised to sort all the food prep with DH. I plan to sit on my very heavily pregnant bum all day and watch my dd enjoy her last Christmas as an only child. EEK!!

LulusMiniEgg · 23/09/2014 16:48

Hello!

Seeing all this Xmas chat is scary!
My DH is working Xmas day (he is a fireman) and I don't fancy a 2 hr drive each way by myself at 39 weeks so think I'll just stay at home. Doubt my parents will want to come to ours as they always my my grandparents round and 5 of us in a small flat all day fills me with dread to be honest!!!
My best friend who lives up north has offered to come down with her husband but I don't think they should to be honest. Would prefer all the visitors once baby is here!
We'll see...

rumisyum · 23/09/2014 18:18

Hello hello, ladies!

Loving the Christmas chat. Grin (92 days!) And my word, we definitely deserve Christmas veto powers this year, I think. I'll be 37 weeks & we normally go to my in-laws', but this year we've decided to stay home & have a cosy Christmas just us 2. (Provided the little one hasn't arrived by then!) We did that once before a few years ago because of work constraints making travel impractical, and it was really wonderful actually, so we'll do it again! It'll be nice to have a bit of quiet time together before the storm of change descends as well, I think. Also, our wedding anniversary is just after Christmas, so it could be all romantic & lovely. < gets doe-eyes, sniffs >

RPopz · 23/09/2014 18:23

Aah Christmas! We usually have to travel to everyone else so DH put his foot down this year and said we were staying home... unfortunately he invited them all here instead! Not sure who he thinks will be cooking Hmm

natharley11 · 23/09/2014 20:39

only just found this group . due jan 24th . Thought I'd say
hello Smile x

sleepisforthetired · 23/09/2014 21:45

Next year will be simple as we will be at home for sure - other thing about being at my side of family is i can go lie down if needed :)

Hey natharley - welcome! - did you opt to find out the sex?

SK28 · 24/09/2014 00:25

Gosh, is it really time to start Christmas planning already?! We have always split the day - 2 or 3 days with my family before Xmas then driving on Xmas day to his family for the next few days, alternating where we do Xmas lunch. I actually hate it and feel cheated because my family do Xmas properly and my brother is still so young it's special still, but his family do no tree or gifts or anything other than the lunch... Might suggest we stay home just us this time as I don't fancy so much driving but no idea how it will go down...

KateTheHuman · 24/09/2014 07:29

natharley11 · 24/09/2014 08:47

yea we have a little boy and thinking calling him owain. x

cheshirem2b · 24/09/2014 09:18

Kate 99 days here too! That is so exciting! We've broken the 100 day barrier!

Some of my work colleagues have had bad colds/flu recently and I thought I had avoided it. Unfortunately it seems to have got me! I've woken up with a really dry sore throat, aching, more tired than usual and generally feeling grotty! The rule is though, isn't it, that you feed a cold? Off to get a sausage sandwich for breakfast!

blizy · 24/09/2014 09:45

Oh yes Cheshire, feed the cold. I've heard they love chocolate. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Natharley, love the name Owain! We are having a wee boy too, not decided on a name though. I'm due 29th jan

natharley11 · 24/09/2014 11:09

thanks we live in Wales so dp wanted proper traditional Welsh name to go with non traditional ds harley lol xz

KateTheHuman · 24/09/2014 11:11

Just realised I can nearly see my feet today! Where's the rest of my bump gone? No wonder my leggings keep trying to fall down!

sleepisforthetired · 24/09/2014 12:53

lol Kate - 102 days here if go to full term!

Natharley lovely name :) Harley looking forwards to being a big brother?

We want something to go with DS name (compliment not rhyme or anything) - so have some "traditional" names for boys picked out (or at least I have!), but greatly lacking on the girls name front. We are finding out on the day - so do need a couple both ways in case the "favourite" name doesn't fit (yes, know this is a bit mad as all babies look like shrivelled old men!)

Open question if anyone wants to bounce around girls names as ideas/inspiration!

I love Tabitha - but DP (and most people) think this is a cats name. I loved Amelia but to close to a family member. I love James for a girl but am not cool enough to carry it off, plus the child might hate me. I also love Lily, but this is popular and need something stronger as DS is quite a strong name and personality.

DP likes Scarlett which is pretty, but an ex named his girl Scarlett which creeps me out as Ex wanted us to use that name if we had children. Although this was a lifetime ago and we are good friends these days I still find it strange he used a name we discussed for his first born, and at the time wondered if he ever told his wife as I would be hacked off to the max if current DP suggested a name he had planned to use with a previous partner (that had no family tie)

I like "proper" names which can be shortened - but avoiding anything similar to family names to avoid the "named after XX".

So far I have Olivia but scared it is a bit to "safe"

As always - all help gratefully received!

KateTheHuman · 24/09/2014 13:43

I love Lily. We were going to use Lily but now it's going to be Ellie. If it's a girl. Pretty weird about Scarlett. I'd hate it if we used a name OH was going to use with someone else.

cheshirem2b · 24/09/2014 15:28

Kate OMG! Date buddies and name buddies! If baby is a girl it's going to be called Eleanor (nn Ellie)!!! How spooky!

KateTheHuman · 24/09/2014 15:32

Haha cheshire that's awesome!!! Now imagine if we both actually had girls on the same day!!!

sleepisforthetired · 24/09/2014 16:28

Ellie is a lovely name - but I teach an Ellie (wonderful kid)

I also liked Layla, Courtney and Ava, although DP didn't.

I Abigail - but friend named her daughter Abbie last week, so thinking that's a bit close although her's is an Abbie... so may U turn on this one

He did say Ruby, which although popular I liked - and then he started doing that "Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby" song so went off that Angry

I love Madeline - but he says reminds him of the little girl that went missing so wont discuss it further. And Millicent (nn Millie) sounded like I was trying to be someone else apparently?!

Why is this so hard!

SK28 · 24/09/2014 16:38

Sleep I think Olivia, Tabitha and Abigail are beautiful (though less keen on Abbie). My sister is Madeleine (Maddie) but have you considered Madison as an alternative?

I also like longer names that can be shortened. Philippa (Pippa) and Annabelle (Annie) are two I like, though not Greek enough for our list.

I also like flower names, Violet and Ivy are two favourites. I read a book recently with a Peony (Pea) which is less traditional but I think really pretty, and it was a gorgeous book :)

RPopz · 24/09/2014 16:55

My sisters are Abigail and Madeleine Grin.

I love Tabitha too - but like you say... people only think of cats!Angry

KateTheHuman · 25/09/2014 07:04

Morning all!! Tabitha reminds me of a witch. :-)

26 weeks today. Woo! I swear it only seems like it was 24 weeks the other day. Where has the time gone?!

natharley11 · 25/09/2014 09:47

I love the name Olivia both me and my sister had it on our girls name list

he is excited but at 3 im not entirely sure he knows what it means x

HelloMist · 25/09/2014 10:08

I've still hardly made any progress on names. I've been gathering a small list over this time, but most either had a reason that put me off a bit, or DH didn't like them when I told him. :( At least we've got a lot of time still.

A friend gave us a huge amount of baby clothes up to 1 year! :) I thought I'd be able to be ruthless and chuck loads, but all I've done is sort them by age or type. I'm chucking a few but it's a pathetic fraction of the bags! Most are in good condition even though not all are to my taste (I didn't want to overdo the whole pink thing, and there are a mixture of outfits and all-in-ones and I'd intended to use just the latter at first).

Also during the sorting I got all hormonal and upset that having so much stuff meant I might not be able to pick my own baby's clothes. :( DH didn't understand and laughed at me! But he says of course I can buy what I want and give away the hand-me-downs as I do. Some of what I'd already got was on ebay, so second hand is good (mostly good to save money when she'll grow out of things so quickly, and there are things I like in good condition) - it's just being able to dress her how I choose and think best.

Anyway, at least saving money here will help towards the really pricey stuff I want to get new (pram, cot). :) And I'm bound to get a few presents of clothes too. Hopefully I'll like those!
