Ahem - allow me....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fatfox · 30/09/2006 22:11

Kittywits - thanks for that link

I've come to the conclusion that having a Friday or Saturday night fight on MN is the new "going out". Things always seem to kick off Fri/Sat night don't they?

The kids are in bed, lets have a glass or two of wine and have a good row on MN!

ps actually am starting to crave red wine

fatfox · 30/09/2006 22:13

ps perhaps those nasty threads are the grown up version of little girls being spiteful in the playground

kittywits · 30/09/2006 22:13

oh, don't get me thinking about red wine........

flannelettepyjamas · 01/10/2006 02:24

Hi Everyone
I haven't been around for a while - busy and then on hols in New Zealand for the last couple of weeks.
We had a fabby time there, it's a gorgeous country if anyone gets the chance to visit ( a bit closer for us to visit from Oz I guess) and I even managed a couple of half days (gentle) skiing at 13 weeks preg!!
Had my NTS and it's low risk so we're happy to go with that and won't plan to have an amnio.
The place I went had a new machine and they could see an incredible amount of detail. Heart anatomy, stomach gas, eye lens, etc. We were totally gobsmacked.
All going well here pregnancy-wise. I'm not showing at all yet and am still in normal clothes ( including jeans). In some ways I'm envious about all you ladies with little bumps and can't wait to have one, but in other ways I'm quite happy .

Hello everyone

It#s very early to be up and about, but DH and I are moving on Thurs and need to pack up the house. My sore bottom and I were awake at 6 thinking about all the things we have to do, so rather than lie there worrying, I thought I'd come down and say hello. Er, I mean, get started on the task in hand. I can hear DD talking in her cot now, so I won't have long to do much .

So far my arse is the same size but my stomach now looks like the aftermath of a pie overload. I can tell I am pg naked but think I look just a tubster with my normal clothes on. Look distinctly pg in mat trousers though! At my first 11 week scan the baby was asleep and I was convinced that it had gone as DD always bounced around on hers. Sonographer had to play the heartbeat to convince me all was OK. It's been up and at it at the 3 subsequent scans though.

Now I know I can ask this as I am amongst friends .... and we are a jolly, supportive thread.... do you drink when you are pg? Fatfox and Kitty's craving for the red got me thinking. I am desperate for a glass of wine. Once I feel up to it, I am going to have one too. Still feel a bit bleurgh after the sickness early on so can't manage wine yet, though tea and coffee OK again now. With DD, I drank nothing for the first bit (well, after I'd found out - had a few big nights whilst still in blissful ignorance ) and then from abotu 15 weeks I had probably 3 glasses of wine a week. What are the other ladies doing?

Welcome back, Flanelette pjs, glad you had a good time.

Enjoy your sunday, girls . Off to buy a washing machine now (the joys of the online experience).

14 w and 6.

dollyp · 01/10/2006 07:28

Oh, and can I just ask, can you eat salami when you are pg or is it raw? Had a delicious salami and emmenthal sandwich yesterday and am now wondering if it was on the forbidden list. Was very tasty though.

Rosylily · 01/10/2006 10:33

Gosh that other thread went crazy! I have realised that you can't just express a personal feeling without being really clear not to be judging others, if you are careless with words, there's trouble! Its not like in rl -I'll say all sorts of crap but my friends know me inside out so hopefully know I would never judge them!
I had great fun the other night on a thread with everyone debating the Harry Potter plot, bit less stressfull!
My sis always enjoys some wine in pregnancy. But I won't be drinking cuz I've mostly given up for the past 6 years. I would rather eat than drink, especially chocolate and really good quality chocolate, I think I love it like the way some people love coffee or wine but I am still off it at the moment! Which is a bit crap. Though better for my figure I guess.

kittywits · 01/10/2006 11:13

Dolly, good luck with all you r packing and stuff, stressful
I drink about 4 units a week which is what the stinky government guidlines say in this country. I normally take no notice whatsoever of government guidlines, but for some reason I do about this. Actually I think it is because if I didn't I'd drink far more than is sensible. Who knows what is right? In France they think a much higher intake of alcohol is fine, think I'll go and live there. In the states if you drink whilst preg they bang you up for pre-natal child abuse .
I have come to the conclusion that my obession with alcolhol has to do with all the years of pregnacy induced deprevation, including time out during miscarriages as well, that makes it...... (noise of brain whirring away, doesn't happen very often) about 50 months.... 4+ years and that doesn't include this preg, wow no wonder I've had enough!!! Gosh I feel better now.
Food wise, I take no notice of the preg police I am rather partial to prawns, liver sausage, mayonnaise and peanut butter when preg. So I eat it

divastrop · 01/10/2006 11:25

hello.

i tried to have a glass of wine the other night but it tasted awful.mind you,it was sparkling stuff.i drank a glass or two 3 or 4 nights a week in my last pg,untill 28 weeks when my bp went loopy and i just gave up living altogether.
i walked past a pub the other night and the smell of stale beer and fags made me long for a pint of lager.i used to drink about 8 pints in a night when i was 18...then i totally went off the stuff in my 1st pg.

fatfox-my bottom had just reverted back to its normal size(still big but not too wide to fit through the door)when i got pg this time.

i too have had the experience of asleep babies being woken up by sonographers.i would have thought that the heart beating would indicate the baby is ok?

its true about boys being easier in a way, apart from the whining...well,ds1 whines all the time anyway.but dd1 can be really nasty and constantly plays on my guilt complex(telling me im a terrible mother and dont give her enough attention etc).
i dont know which is worse,TBH.

leogaela · 01/10/2006 11:45

Fatfox - great news about your friend, that's wonderful !
I also think twins is really special, but it doesn't stop me worrying about everything that extra bit more! can't wait to get through the next 5 months and know that they arrive safely, I'm putting off worrying too much about how we will cope until after that!

Ooh, must read the boys thread when I have time. I'm slowly convincing myself that the twins are boys , somehow I think it will be more fun than if they are 2 girls especially for ds who is as boyish as you get!

FPJs - i was impatient like that when I was pregnant with ds, i wanted everyone to notice, now this time I look so pregnant already that I dread people I don't know asking when its due, oh aren't you big, blah blah blah....

Dollyp - I've been eating parma ham and other raw hams, hope its ok!!!! Don't know about salami, i think its cooked. The only thing i really avoid is peanuts and shell fish and never eat anything i don't feel like - I take that as a good sign to tell me what's ok and what's not.
Uuurgh, don't know how you cope with moving house now, i hope you ahve lots of help, take care and avoid lifting and carrying as much as possible, it would be really bad to hurt yourself now.

As for drinking, i have an odd glass of wine or two. I'm not too worried about it. We got married a month before ds was born and i confess that at lunchtime i had mulled wine, then in the evening champagne, we had a 5 course meal and a different glass of wine with each and i confess that i managed to at least taste every glass ! Hard spirits is definitely out though.

Right ds is sleeping, dh has his head stuck in sunday newspaper so I'm off for a quick kip!

Rosylily · 01/10/2006 12:10

Oops I've been eating LOADS of prawns! my mw said ok as long as they are cooked well...? Anything nutty is a no-no for me though. My babies have bad allergies. Have to carry epipen everywhere for dd for peanuts.
I really crave all the cheeses you are not supposed to have though. I am going to have a feast of them next year! But in Pakistan dh family all drink unpastuerised milk all through their pregnancies...
I reckon the baby gets rocked to sleep when we are active, then when you lie down to sleep they are ready to play!
Fatfox its so lovely about your friend.

divastrop · 01/10/2006 12:37

ive been eating prawn mayo sadwiches and stilton cheese cos i had cravings for them!i ate loads of peanuts in my last pg,i never bother to read about the stuff ur not meant to eat,but im lucky there are no problems with food allergies in my family.

anniediv · 01/10/2006 12:49

I've always lost such a lot of weight during previous pregnancies that the MW has told me if I fancy it, eat it, and sod whether it's 'forbidden' or not! I had cravings for peanuts last time and used to eat handfuls of them, also peanut butter on toast. I'm fortunate that no-one in the family has allergies.

I'm eating semi normally this time (well, very semi normally) there's only a couple of things I can stomach and I can't eat much of them, but it's so different to previously I think this must be a boy.

spongecake · 01/10/2006 14:51

thanks for all the midwife advice-will try to relax a bit, as hopefully she won't be there on the day. Am getting lunch cooked for me today as feel sick and have to wear a teatowel round my head to go into the kitchen and do anything am due march 15th..

spongecake · 01/10/2006 14:51

fatfox · 01/10/2006 15:59

Spongecake - you poor thing. I have a vision of you with a big teatowel wrapped around your face, with just the eyes showing as you gingerly enter the kitchen. Am trying not to smile as I know its not at all funny I wonder if you are having a girl as you feel so sick?

Ignore me, its just an old wives tale

Flannelette - nice to have you back in the pot-belly fold. NZ sound sgreat. Where abouts do you live in Oz? Amazed about the scan showing so much detail. If that was me, the scan would probably show all my stomach gas . Its great you got such a good NT result.

Dolly/Kitty - I drank about 3 units a week when PG with DS and DD.Unfortunately it makes me feel ill this time. Must be old age or something. I am still craving red wine though (had some really nice merlot a couple of weeks ago at a friends and that didn't make me ill. White wine tastes like vinager to me a the moment though). hmmm - might buy a bottle this week if this craving doesn't subside. Am also practically living on Waitrose Cornish Pasties (the real cornish ones - veggie version). A diet of red wine and cornish pasties sounds quite OK - what do you think? I fact I could imagine women in the middle ages living on something similar
Also ate brie when PG with DD and do have peanut butter on toast now and then as well.

Diva - LOL at your comment about the smell of stale beer and fags making you crave a drink DS also whines constantly and is always on at me to buy him someing or other. DD doesn't whine, but comes out with attempts at spitefulness sometimes like, "anyway Mummy, your hair looks rubbish!". She's only just three. She's also started to tell tales on DS. "Mummy, DS is ironing me" (she can't say "annoying" ). Why do girls tell tales? Boys generally just can't be bothered.

Leo - good for you squeezing a quick nap in, I managed that yesterday DS, DD and DH and busy waching "Bart Wars" a the moment.

I have a huge bump too - I mean, like, really massive

Had a spot of blood earlier - well I think it was mine. I only noticed it when the toilet paper had landed in the pan (it as on the paper) and it could have been someone elses, as it was a public loo. hmmm...it may have been the cervical erosion, as apparently I have it again. Haven't had any more spots this arvo though, so should be OK.

Has anyone else got any medical issues regarding their pregnancies - blood pressure, placenta etc?

TheBlonde · 01/10/2006 16:09

Hello all!

No more talk of nuts pls! I would love peanut m&ms, bakewell tarts, praline chocs but DH is allergic so it's all out of bounds for me

I am still having the odd glass of wine but only with dinner so I don't feel too wasted

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday. I braved the rain to go shopping and failed to get anything nice. Really wanted some boots but they were sold out in my size

Right must go and prepare the roast

kittywits · 01/10/2006 18:09

Fatfox, ds2 tells tales and whines, but when his hair grows he looks like a girl, so maybe that's it.
Hope the old cerv erosion is alright. Have you been having too much 'how's your father again?'
Blossom Hill soft and fruity is a really good cheap red wine. I've become very sensitive to tannins in wine, too much tastes yuk. This stuff is really good and mellow, very drinkable. maybe that's not such a good thing actually. Sometimes i'm quite relieved when i get a crap wine it ,eans i won't want another glass.

fatfox · 01/10/2006 19:42

Kittywits - have had a teeny bit more blood so think that may justify me having a day off work tomorrow. If it continues tomorrow, I will ring Queen Charlotte's - apparently once 18 weeks, the late pregnancy unit will see me (rather than have to wait hours in A&E again). But have deffo felt baby move today, so feel much reassured by the movements. I get really emotional if I spot blood, even though I know damn well what its likely to be....its like a knee jerk reaction. TBH I would quite like another scan anyway....

I've seen that wine you metion, on the shelves and may buy some this week . I am totally with you on the tannins front - some red is very bitter. That soft and mellow wine sounds just what I need

18 weeks today!

fatfox · 01/10/2006 19:43

PS my DS looks like a girl too

divastrop · 01/10/2006 19:58

i could only drink rose wine when pg with dd2.i drank rather alot of red wine when pg with ds1 and dd1.it wasnt frowned upon so much back then and i was still young and stupid

fatfox-wait till ur dd is 6 or 7.my little darling has come out with all sorts, like 'ur bum looks massive in those jeans' and the classic 'u cant be my real mum,u dont even care about me!'.i think i preffered it when she was 3 and used to shout 'willies and fannies' whenever we were using public transport.
2 years ago she announced to a busload of people going along oxford st that her mum had had loads of boyfriends.i wanted the ground to swallow me up,i tell you.

i have to go to the hospital tomorrow to get my bp checked.i hope im not there long.

divastrop · 01/10/2006 20:03

fatfox-im sure everything is ok.we have a 'fetal assessment unit' at our hospital now but u used to have to go to the gynae ward with any probs before 22 weeks, which im told was a horrible place.

kittywits · 01/10/2006 20:10

Oh, so with three girls I've got it all to come eh? Thunder and lightning like mad here.

dollyp · 01/10/2006 20:27

It has rained so much today here. DD and I went to the park, with it lightly spitting. It was chucking it down by the time we arrived so we had the swings to ourselves. I was wearing DH's super attractive waterproof so I was dry but looked like a trainspotter. DD had a great time jumping in puddles. Went down the slide with her plastic coat on like a thing possessed .

Fatfox, I am so sorry about your bleeding. If you can feel LO move, though, that must be a good sign. Definitely justifies a day off work taking it easy though. I would probably nip down to Day assessment as well just to be sure. Hope your appointment goes well too Diva.

Am feeling very fat now. I supposed a few weeks of not eating made my cheeks quite hollow and I felt quite slim in my jeans. Feel like a big heifer now though (esp as I moo in labour!)! Worried about going to work tomorrow. I havent been for 4 weeks as i have been signed off with my sickness and have got out of the loop. Hope it'll be OK when I get there.

Am drinking lovely apple tango at the moment. But I want wine! I want to want wine! Hope I am not going to go off it for the next 6 months.

Have a good evening tonight everyone.

XXXXX

15 weeks tomorrow. Aka arse end of March .

kiwibella · 01/10/2006 21:34

I definately agree with your 'if you fancy it, eat it' theory, Annie I also enjoy a glass of wine if we are out. If you want to check out some of the suggested foods, try here

flannettepjs... how was the mountain?? Were you north or south? Glad you had a wonderful time in good ol' NZ.

fatfox... rest up. Hope everything turns out to be ok.
