Why do we worry more second time round? I'm exactly the same. With ds it didn't even occur to us anything would be wrong or would go wrong. Why is it so different this time?

bouncesky · 18/08/2014 10:23

Looks like lots of us got our 12 weeks scans this week! My appointment came in the post on saturday and it's for this Thursday, so glad I don't have too long to wait! I should be 12+2 and it is exactly 4 weeks since my early private scan. Actually quite nervous as if everything is alright I have to start reorganising my diary for next year! I am due to be abroad working most of March, so need to cancel all of that, but haven't wanted to do it until I know everything is okay at 12 weeks scan. Loving all the talk about prams! Anyone considering real nappies? Our local authority gives you a grant for buying them. So much to consider!

fourmonthstogo · 18/08/2014 10:31

bounce I used cloth nappies laSt time, and will definitely be using again. My favourites are bumgenius. I know there are at least a couple of other cloth nappy users on hear so I'm sure there'll be loads of helpful advice if you want it! Glad you haven't got long til your scan, mine isn't til next Thurs and that feels ages away!

fourmonthstogo · 18/08/2014 10:32

On here.

M27J5M · 18/08/2014 10:41

Sorry to hear your getting crappy weather girls, it's cool here but pretty bright lol for once! I'm feeling much brighter today Smile yest I had a "feeling sorry for myself" day, everything I went to wear was too tight etc, getting harder to disguise this tiny wee bump!

I know what you mean about nothing fitting! I went to a party on Friday and most of my dresses didn't fit and those that did were figure hugging, stretchy type material that showed off I was obviously pregnant. Luckily found a tent to wear in the end!
Fourmonths, any help would be gratefully received! I definitely want to go for cloth nappies but have no idea where to start!

M27J5M · 18/08/2014 11:13

Lol I put jeans on yest that I wore about 4-5 days, couldn't get the button anywhere near done, 2inch gap lol and went to work on sat with my trousers undone cos I had no other trousers to wear! The joys Smile

Eugh I really want to go into work and start sorting my classroom and displays but I'm not sure I can face moving! I saw a colleague in tesco yesterday and had to cut short our conversation from fear of being sick! Feel really guilty that I'm being so lazy! Xxx

ELA88 · 18/08/2014 11:17

I also don't want to go through the stress of having to find clothes! If I know I'm staying indoors I can put on the most horrific old baggy (but unbelievably comfortable) clothes! Xxx

Rainbow555 · 18/08/2014 11:26

Argh so I am having midwife issues. Things are different in NZ and we get to choose a midwife that does all antenatal, delivery and postnatal care for 6 weeks. I had seen a few and chose one and then this week she told me her friend is giving birth next April so she will go to care for her...so she will miss all postnatal care (and birth if I am late). She suggested I might want to switch so I can get continuity of care. Started looking at others and most of them are booked up already for March.

There is one lady that has been training with someone else we saw and they have offered to do antenatal care together until jan when she registers as a midwife and then she would take over. I am really uneasy about that fact she would have only just registered! I know everyone has to start somewhere and I feel really bad but I can't help but think I don't want a newbie for my first?? Is that bad? Would anyone else feel the same? I have met her already and she seemed really nice and I did click with her and I am sure it would be fine but just feeling unsettled by it all!

And really I am sure it is nothing as on OBEM they have rotating midwives through the night/day so I guess I don't have much to worry about.

Sorry just needed to get that out maybe I will calm down and be able to get some sleep now!

Surfsup1 · 18/08/2014 11:44

Oooh that's tough Rainbow! What is the possible replacement's background? Nursing? Does she have children of her own?
How much backup is available during the birth? How do the midwives schedule these things? Surely they could have two clients giving birth at the same time? What then?

MyPandaisasecretmonster · 18/08/2014 11:58

That seems really tough Pickle , I'm not sure I'd be very comfortable tbh unless she had some kind of nursing background , I hope you manage to get it sorted Smile

I'm still waiting to hear from or even see a midwife and I'm almost 10 weeks , I haven't a clue what to do or wether I should just wait to hear from somebody ?

MyPandaisasecretmonster · 18/08/2014 11:59

I meant Rainbow I haven't a clue where I got pickle from Blush Confused

lotsoftoast · 18/08/2014 12:09

panda I'd try and chase up the midwife - you need your scan before 13+6 if you want nuchal testing done so need to get yourself on the radar so to speak.

JammyTodger · 18/08/2014 12:19

I used cloth nappies with DS1. I loved them, kept them for 5 years and have only just sold them on. Hoping to restock with some preloved ones if all goes well. We used BumGenius last time. They were brilliant but I'll probably be tempted to try some different ones.

KeeperOfTheZoo · 18/08/2014 12:36

Oooh I feel like I've been away for ages! Just caught up on the last 3 pages...

Feeling a bit better since yesterday (in fact I managed to eat 3 meals yesterday! Could only face about half of my tea but didn't feel horrendously sick afterwards so that's a definite improvement).

Re: prams - we got a second-hand (but in fantastic condition) Quinny Buzz for DS. It is a travel system that costs £700-plus brand new if you get all the bits but we got the frame, buggy, maxi-cosi car seat and car seat base all for £200! I did then also get an as-new carrycot off ebay for £50 so all-in-all quite a bargain. DS has just turned 2 and we still use it (when he doesn't insist on walking like a big boy! Grin). We probably didn't use the carrycot for a huge amount of time on the buggy but we kept it downstairs for him to sleep in during the day, so we didn't have to keep lugging the moses basket up and down the stairs.

Re: cloth nappies - DS is still in them and I love them. There is no better sight than a row of cloth nappies hanging out on the washing line! And of course this time round will be so much cheaper as most of them are fine to carry on using ( I bought the one-size ones, which grow with the baby so fit newborns as well as 2 yr olds!). I will just need to replace one or two, and I did splash out on a more expensive personalised one for DS with his name and date of birth plastered across his bum so it seems only fair to get the new baby one of those too.

Enough waffle from me for now, hope no-one's suffering too much today.

persepolis123 · 18/08/2014 12:36

panda Give them another call and chase it up.

I'm 9 weeks and haven't seen a midwife yet but she's supposed to be calling me this week to arrange a home visit for the weekend. I will wait until thursday and if I've not heard anything I'll be calling her again.

I've been feeling so ill again over the last few days. It's a bit of a shock after sailing through my pregnancy with DS. It's so different that we are convinced it must be a girl this time. Anyone else have any inklings?

Butterpuff · 18/08/2014 12:44

Hi everyone, it really does take a while to catch up.

I've skimmed the pram talk, to scared to read it but will come back to it eventually. Interested in cloth nappies though. Will have to do some more reading.

I'm feeling vile today, I was starting to improve, then had a busy weekend (birthday yesterday) with late nights and dinner out. Today I wish I had stayed in bed, sick as anything and falling asleep at the desk tired. I thought by 13 weeks this was supposed to have passed.

Boo.

Ela at home and comfy clothes sounds amazing, shopping for a dress to wear to a wedding next month on Saturday did not go well, too big for my usual styles, too small for showing off bump. Just.....fat. Sad

MyPandaisasecretmonster · 18/08/2014 13:01

Just spoke to the receptionist at my GP surgery and the midwife only works Mondays and Wednesday's so I've to give it another week and if still not heard anything then I have to get back intouch

diggerdigsdogs · 18/08/2014 13:22

I've had a number of prams (dh has banned me from getting more) but I think my favourites were te Stokke even though it was huuuuuge to fold just because it was so useful in coffee shops and restaurants as a high chair. Loved it but it was just too big in the end and was sold

Mountain buggy duet is a truely perfect double pram. I love it. I ruined my wrists on the baby jogger city select as it's sooo heavy with big dc and impossible to get up kerbs or onto the trains.

Also had a maclaren but I can push it one handed and hold dd's hand so again it's being sold. We have a super light valco now and I lovvvvve it. Plus it folds flat. Not going to bother with a travel system this time

surfs dd is 3.5 and Ds is 21 months. What about yours?

rainbow Id go with the new one if I clicked with her but I'd ask lots of questions re her style and what she sees as a good birth/aftercare.

diggerdigsdogs · 18/08/2014 13:23

Can't push it not can push it!

PintOfTea · 18/08/2014 13:54

Interesting pram chat. I'm dithering a bit. I LOVED the pram we bought for DD and used the spacious carrycot for around 8 months before switching to the pushchair seat (which fits facing forward or as I preferred, backwards). I then only got a folding silver cross pop when we had to when we flew when DD was 15 months, and used both until she stopped daytime napping at 2. It was smooth to push, v maneuverable, spacious and comfortable for baby and toddler.

However, my beloved pram is an Emmaljunga City Cross, and is fairly big. People think it's heavy, but it is the easiest pram I've ever pushed and the differnce between pushing Dd in that or the buggy was huge. It was annoying to get in the car and I had to put the top bit inside, but I do have a small car. I've since moved and now rely more on the car than I did when DD was a baby and I just walked out of the house with the pram. But I am going to get a bigger car.

I just can't work out if a larger pram is worth it when I won't walk directly from the house so often. And I loved the carrycot more than the pushchair and can see me switching full time to a folding buggy earlier this time. I do like a good woodland walk with DD though, and the Emmaljunga is brilliant off road.

I would hope I'd get a good price for it if I wanted to get a different one but don't know if I really want to part with it. Will have to research alternatives which are smaller, but still have the features I love. Hmmmmm, decisions...

hyperspacebug · 18/08/2014 14:01

I have both Bumgenius (although I have to manually replace very tired velcro with poppers kit after being through two kids) and Weenotions (better as they have poppers and better colours). Definitely much more varied market than 5 years ago.

8wks now. Had a few trips to toilet cubicle this morning. As this baby is due the same time as my DS1 was, I read my old online records when I was pg with Ds1 - apparently ms will get worse in end of August/September. One more month of this :/

Who else is having reassurance scan tomorrow?

M27J5M · 18/08/2014 14:03

I have a reassurance scan on thurs hyper!

I'm loving the pram talk although I haven't yet started looking into prams yet, will start after scan once I've relaxed about everything

hyperspacebug · 18/08/2014 14:04

Will read through the pram notes...good old MacLaren here but if anyone has other easy compact pushchairs that can handle tight London spaces that is not Bugaboo (£££), I'm all ears.
