Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pinkandstripey · 14/08/2014 09:56

Xpost, yes mw advises to call epu or go to a&e x

PickledPorcupine · 14/08/2014 10:04

Yes, you can call them direct.

When I thought I had appendicitis the doc managed to fit me in in half an hour (and then referred me straight onto a ward at hospital) so they can see you earlier. You just need to put a bit of pressure on the secretary.

persepolis123 · 14/08/2014 10:06

I have been absolutely shattered the last few days. Threw a sickie from work yesterday to catch up on some rest and feel a bit better today.

ela I know what you mean about feeling like a fraud. I had a look at double pushchairs in Mothercare last weekend but felt a bit of an idiot because there were women with massive bumps and I don’t even look pregnant.

All being well DS will be 28 months when baby arrives. I think there are others with similar age gaps. Can you tell me if you have thought about double pushchairs and if you think you’ll be getting one or not? DS likes to walk everywhere but there will be times when we go on days out and he gets tired and we will need to lay him down so I’m thinking we should probably get one which can convert to a single when DS is older. It will be our biggest expense as we have kept most things from when we had DS.

We also need a new car – we really struggle with space in ours now if we have the pushchair in the boot and need to do a big weekly shop. My parents told me they will be buying that for us though. I know we are extremely lucky, can’t quite believe it. Their house has just gone on the market and when it’s sold they will buy one for us. It won’t be brand new but newer than our 10 year old Megane.

mucho My scan will be the same week as yours. Haven’t got the date yet but I’m not 12 weeks until about the 8th of September.

Welcome jammy Smile

ZebraZeebra · 14/08/2014 10:13

persepolis DS will be a similar age - 29 months, I think. He still uses the buggy a lot - we have a City Jogger Mini - but since I didn't get that until he was three months because he was in a sling all the time, I'll probably try the same again with new baby. Hopefully around 6 months or so, when DS is three, I might get a buggy board.

I had DS in a sling for most of the time anyway, it was only on longer journeys was he in the buggy. I have a good collection of slings so baby willing, that's my plan.

Butterpuff · 14/08/2014 10:20

Reading your buggy comments, I'm terrified about shopping for a travel system. I have a mini convertible, and there isn't much that will fit inside it I fear, but I don't want to sell it and get something sensible. DH is going to get a Golf (his old car died a while ago) and I suspect we will have to swap. Sad I love my mini.

panda hope someone will see you and put your mind at rest.

Thanks for the good luck everyone. I'm split between terrified and excited. I also suspect I will be put back and find out that I'm not as far along as LMP date suggests (11+6 today) only a couple of hours to go. Smile

Surfsup1 · 14/08/2014 10:21

Panda I hope everything is OK. It could easily just be a tummy upset, but it's really worth making sure.

Zebra - A buggy board can be a good investment - double buggies are the pits IMHO. I wanted to wheel my Phil & Ted off a cliff after about 6 months!

lotsoftoast · 14/08/2014 10:23

DS will be 28 months when this baby arrives. I plan to sling baby and put him in his buggy till ds is confidently using the buggy board. I don't drive and have to use public transport - no danger am I going on the bus with a double buggy!

fishfingerSarnies · 14/08/2014 10:31

My lo will be about 4/5 months off being three so I have no intention of getting a double buggy, using the tube is hard enough it will have to be slings and taking turns in the buggy on long days out if the big one needs it. Not sure when they start being able to walk every where, my 2 year old is so slow we'd never get anywhere if she walked hopefully she will speed up over the next 7/8 months! Might have a buggy board

persepolis123 · 14/08/2014 10:35

panda yes call epu or go to a&e.

zebra the sling is a good option, didn't think of that. Can you recommend a good one?

butterpuff good luck!

Rainbow555 · 14/08/2014 10:43

Good luck butterpuff :) exciting day!

Surfsup1 · 14/08/2014 10:56

I found Ergobaby carriers to be the absolute best! Especially as they last all the way through to toddler years (so long as your kids aren't too big).

My 2 started having punch-ups about who could ride on the buggy board when DS2 was about 22 months, so the buggy was given away and I just made them walk. I am SO mean! Still, walk they did! Come to think of it I'm still throwing away things they fight over - the buggy must have been the start of the pattern!

Surfsup1 · 14/08/2014 10:56

Butterpuff, I bet if you search MN you'll find some advice on travel systems that fit a mini!

FoscarC · 14/08/2014 10:58

butterpuff I have a porsche and am reluctant to sell it but think I have no choice!

persepolis123 · 14/08/2014 11:01

Yes thinking about it a sling is the perfect solution. DS’s pushchair converts into a pram very easily so could use it for the baby if needed and DS can walk but if he needs to go in there then we can use a sling. So glad I asked or we would have spent £600 on a double. Will have a look at the ergobaby carriers.

MotherOfInsomniacToddlers · 14/08/2014 11:31

My ds will be 29 months when baby arrives, i will almost definately use a double but I already own one (dd and ds are 15 months apart so I had to have one!!) I don't think I'd buy one specially though but having said that my two are 3 and 2 months and 23 months at the moment and I still take the double out, the 3 year old walks most of the time but I make her sit down when she wants a snack and if she is tired or being naughty or if I need to get somewhere quickly and she's being impossibly slow. She probably walks 90% of the time and had done since about 2.5 but I do like the option of the double pushchair.
I like the look ( and have been coveting for some while!) the boba 4g, I'm sure the sling and single buggy would work well if I didn't already own a double tbh Smile

ZebraZeebra · 14/08/2014 11:36

Yeah I don't think I can be doing with a double! But I guess it depends on the baby...you can't always bank on a baby liking a sling, annoyingly.

I have a Beco Gemini now which is virtually the same as an Ergo in terms of design and longevity. But I started with several fabric stretchy wraps when he was a tiny baby because I liked I could cradle hold him.

I would strongly NOT recommend a Baby Bjorn - they have no lumber support and they do not support the baby's hips/pelvis in the correct position. This site gives good info on the importance of the frog leg position over dangling legs - which is what you get with the Baby Bjorn: onyababy.com/2012/09/babywearing-baby-positioning/

These are the slings I have:

For newborns:

The Close Baby Carrier - this is the one I'll probably use again the most as it is sort of half pre-wrapped so easy to put on, then you can adjust to different holds: www.babycarrier.org.uk/the-close-baby-carrier/

The Kari Me - it's lovely but some of the wraps are bit hard to do: www.babycarrier.org.uk/the-kari-me-sling/

For when he got to around six months - Beco Gemini, front, back, side, forward facing: www.becobabycarrier.com/cat-13/gemini

But there'll be loads of sling libraries around. Go and try them all out for free to see what suits you best :)

Sunshine4444 · 14/08/2014 11:47

Can I ask opinions as not sure if I'm just crazy! I suffer really bad anxiety and have had such a stressful week and a terrible migraine that I've got myself in a right state.

I had a private scan at 6 weeks and all ok and my 12 week is next week but I've got it in my head that something's wrong! Would you go for a private scan today to put your mind at rest?x

eatscakefornoreasonwhatsoever · 14/08/2014 11:48

Ds won't be 3 till Jan but the buggy has been in the garage for nearly 6 months already. It never got used that much before anyway. I slung him nearly all the time and he was an early Walker. He walks everywhere now or goes on his bike seat on my bike. I'm lucky that we live in a small town where everything is walking distance though.

Panda - please call someone love.

Oof. I was feeling so tired and sick I went upstairs for a lie down. Slept for an hour and when I came down DS asked if I'd had a nice sleep, so he must have come up to see me but kept quiet and left me to it. I fully appreciate how lucky I am to have a thoughtful 2 year old.

ZebraZeebra · 14/08/2014 11:58

Bloody hell eats! That's amazing of your DS!

Panda yes please see someone.

sunshine part of me thinks go if it will put your mind at rest but the other part of me thinks...there's a lot of anxieties with pregnancies and somehow we have to deal with those things. I almost bought my own Doppler to listen to DS's heartbeat whenever I could but I knew that way lies madness. I don't know, it's a really tough one. Do you have any reason to think something is wrong - cramping, bleeding - or is it more fuelled by anxiety?

I say all that with complete kindness by the way. I guess I'm just not sure always capitulating to the anxiety is the best thing to do. And I say that as someone who gets anxious a lot.

coastergirl · 14/08/2014 12:04

eatscake your son sounds too adorable!

sunshine I have awful anxiety too. Feel free to pm me if you want to. I feel your pain. Getting a private scan for me now isn't an option because of money worries so I have to wait for my follow up next week. Not sure what to advise.

panda I really hope you are OK.

butter I have a mini convertible too which I adore. DH has a civic which is a real Tardis. We would always use that for big trips out etc anyway, so really hoping to be able to keep my mini. Going to do some research so will let you know what I find out.

I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and still haven't had even an inkling of sickness. Dare I believe I might be one of the lucky ones?

Hope everyone has a good day and that those with scans have a positive outcome x

MyPandaisasecretmonster · 14/08/2014 12:15

I have an appointment at the Epu at 3.20 so fingers crossed

M27J5M · 14/08/2014 12:26

Glad to hear you got app panda, hope it all goes well and you get peace of mind!

I've gave up trying to catch up on this thread lol moves too quickly, I'll try catch up more later!

I don't know if any of you remember my rant about work the other week. Well I was right and have had hours cut and now have no choice but to give up my job! Been stressed out since yest, hence the reason I'm so behind on here

Panda hope all goes well fingers crossed

butter I have a feeling my Mazda mx5 classic may have to be sold cries a lot

Foscar (I think) I already have a defined bump in a morning and a enormous bump in an evening. If one more person asks me if I think it might be twins they may end up with twin black eyes including DP!! Disclaimer.. I am joking about the violence

pinkandstripey · 14/08/2014 13:47

Fx panda ((hug))

m27 that's shocking! I'm sure pregnancy =automatic discrimination, give acas a call! (sorry if I've missed the point, I don't remember your precious post). Acas are awesome, and free (although you do pay for the call).

lotsoftoast · 14/08/2014 14:26

Sling wise, I have a manduca and a woven wrap. Both suitable from birth to toddlerhood! I second a pp that there are lots of fantastic options out there that you don't even need to think about a bjorn
