Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Great news life :)

Sorry to hear about people bleeding and poorly, hope everyone feels better soon.

We are planning on finding out the sex, lots of reasons including; planning the nursery and buying stuff for baby (or keep stuff from ds rather than bin/sell and gain some space!). but also - this may sound odd! - because this will be our last child I'd kind of like the experience of knowing the sex early for one of our children. I think being able to refer to a him or her rather than an it may be a different experience iyswim? We didnt want to know for ds.

Plus I confused everyone with ds when carrying him as one week i'd refer to her and the next him!

And we can sort a name!

And we genuinely don't mind either way!

Pinksun12 · 13/08/2014 04:47

Safra and you can refer as him/her in front of your DS, it might help him grasp the whole idea better!

PickledPorcupine · 13/08/2014 06:19

That's such a relief life Smile

I don't think I've got the naughty feeling but I wonder if that's a product of being brought up in a house where my parents were really open about sex, babies etc. Might be?

Does anyone else look at themself in every window they pass and get all excited?? I can't believe I've got a bump and can't stop looking at it. DH is fed up of me staring at myself!

eatscakefornoreasonwhatsoever · 13/08/2014 06:57

I'm divided on whether to find out or not. I don't believe in gendering babies so whatever we have will be in DS' s old things anyway and most of those were multicoloured. He even has some pink clothes. Luckily Dot will only be a couple of months behind DS so we should have the right season things mostly.

Itold DH he gets to decide because I pushed to find out last time. He's getting all flustered and keeps changing his mind. I honestly don't mind either way

woodlandwanderwoman · 13/08/2014 07:18

Morning all! Urgh, 3 hours sleep after some good old pregnancy insomnia but I have vowed not to complain today.

Instead I am going to make the most of a coffee and long shower in peace whilst ds "reads" his books and drinks his milk, safe in the knowledge that this is the first morning in a week I don't have to clean poo off his carpet Grin (long story, sorry if it's tmi!)

MotherOfInsomniacToddlers · 13/08/2014 07:26

Wow lots has happened!
Brummie girl i know what you mean about being embarrassed telling people. This is my third child in pretty quick succession, so will be 3rd mat leave from the same company ( though I have taken a demotion after each child and now have a very unimportant job!)
We won't be finding out the sex this time. We did with the last 2 but won't this time as I have no practical reason for finding out as i already have a dd and a ds and this baby is likely to be a c section (both natural before) so I think I'd like some element of surprise. I didn't regret find out before though. With dd I was so exhausted I probably wouldn't have thought to ask the gender and if they had told me she was a unicorn I probably would have said "how lovely" Grin

m33r · 13/08/2014 07:29

life that's great news! You must be so relieved.

We're definitely finding out. I think as it'll feel like we're a step closer to having our baby even though it won't bring anything any quicker.

My nausea was really bad last week but has really eased up. I'm torn between relief at not feeling sick and worry something is wrong... No bleeding or spotting or anything so I should be grateful and calm! Have my booking in appt tomorrow so hopefully mw can offer some reassurance...

brummie glad your spotting came to nothing.

pinkandstripey · 13/08/2014 08:37

Just saying hello :) Hope everyone who's spotting is doing ok and it stops soon x

I can't quite believe I'm asking this (def tmi sorry!), but has anyone noticed anything weird wit their discharge? Sometimes it's thick and quite lumpy (sorry) and sometimes there's loads of it but it's more like normal. I don't remember this with ds, I'm 11 weeks.

fourmonthstogo · 13/08/2014 08:50

Hope everyone has a better day today, and good news on your mum life
We're definitely going to find out if we can, for me I think it will be just as much a surprise at 20 weeks as at the end, everything else on the day is surprising so it's nice to spread it out a bit. Also, I had a scare last time and I hated not knowing, referring to "it" not moving was just horrible. Anyway she was fine and I was being paranoid.
We couldn't find out that time as she wasn't in the right position. Fingers crossed this one will be more cooperative!

Butterpuff · 13/08/2014 09:07

Great news life.

Hope everyone has a better day today.

I'm also in the not finding out the sex camp, not sure why, the surprise, don't wan to jinx the pregnancy. Who knows, but at the moment I don't want to know.

MotherOfInsomniacToddlers · 13/08/2014 09:16

Yes pinkandstripey, me too and it's ( definitely tmi) yellow/green :-S

Lifeisabeach · 13/08/2014 10:56

Thanks guys, today definitely feels like a better day :)

The MW has just been to do my booking in. She was lovely! She was very supportive of me having a home birth this time, but said I can basically choose home or hospital at any point, even when I’m in labour. She’ll bring the home birth box round but if I decide I want to go to the midwife-led unit, I can.

I’ll get a 12 week scan date in the post, where they do the nuchal test routinely now, which they didn’t for my last two pregnancies. If all is well I have to make an appointment to see her at 16 weeks.

Feels more real now I’ve seen her and got my notes and all the other stuff they give you. I haven’t looked through the Bounty pack properly yet but can see there’s a weeks supply of pregnacare in there, so that’s useful at least!

Hope everyone else is having better days too!

Butterpuff · 13/08/2014 11:31

I didn't get anything like that in my bounty pack Life the seal was broken on mine, do they differ or did I get one with everything but the leaflets removed?

Glad your MW arrived on the right day and was lovely. I've seen two, one lovely (who I wont see again) and the other more....matron!

But I am determined to be pleased and happy because tomorrow is scan day Grin

madasacatter · 13/08/2014 11:36

When did you ladies get Bounty packs? I haven't had anything apart from maternity notes :s

hyperspacebug · 13/08/2014 11:39

With previous two we did find out the gender but we kept secret from most people except close family without great difficulty. Because we have two boys now, I am not sure I want to find out this time 1) if it's a boy 3 and if I am not telling anyone, people will keep going on how they hope it will be a girl 2) if it's a boy and I tell everyone, no one will be excited about my pregnancy anymore 3) I like the idea of surprise myself...

Not great today - with violent nausea I can't function at work but deadline is looming :(

FoscarC · 13/08/2014 12:06

I haven't had any packs either!!! Just maternity notes. I want free stuff!!!

Butterpuff · 13/08/2014 12:17

I had booking appointment at my GP surgery, then they passed my notes on to the local midwife led unit and I went there when I got an appointment through, seems they thought they had to book me in too, complete waste of time. The midwife there gave me a pack, for lack of anything else to do I think. But it didn't have any free stuff in it. Just a load of boring flyers. Still waiting for free stuff.

PickledPorcupine · 13/08/2014 12:20

I haven't even seen a midwife yet and won't until the end of next week so I have nothing (apart from you lot - think that's all I need to be honest!)

I just bought a dream genii sleep pillow from the kiddicare closing down sale for £20 in case anyone wants one.

KeeperOfTheZoo · 13/08/2014 12:26

Life - that's great news about your Mum Grin

We're also torn about whether to find out the sex - we didn't last time and were really happy to have that surprise when he was born (although ended up with MW telling us rather than DH after EMCS, so not quite how I envisaged it but never mind). This time DH is definitely leaning towards finding out, whereas I'm quite happy not to know again. The only reason I would want to know is to make it easier to talk to 2 yr old DS as the time gets nearer, about his baby brother or baby sister, without confusing him too much. And of course if it turns out to be twins then I think we would probably need to know.... Shock Wink Grin

KeeperOfTheZoo · 13/08/2014 12:29

I loved my maternity pillow last time! I have a big sausage-shaped one rather than the V-shaped one, so I could contort it into whatever shape I wanted to, depending on which bit of me was hurting most at any one time!

Which reminds me, I really need to get up into the loft to get that down. As well as my bigger clothes...

HollyBen · 13/08/2014 12:36

Hi all. Great news for your mum life

I had my booking apt with mw this morning. Thankfully it was a different mw from last time (I didn't like the one I had with DD) who actually told me stuff rather than moaning about the computer system. Got my notes, a folder of leaflets and a new copy of the Ready, steady, baby book (think this is an NHS Scotland thing). She told me that due to my age (just turned 40) I would get extra growth scans at 28 and 34 weeks, be induced at edd and would not be eligible to use mlu. I am gutted about mlu as it was opened shortly after dd was born and I have heard really good things about it. Sad

12 week scan next ThursdaySmile

PickledPorcupine · 13/08/2014 12:49

Holly Is that all just advised? I'm surprised as it's your second.

This pillow looks a bit sausage like. Can't wait to sleep with it tonight. DH wants to know why I can't just cuddle him! Might even send him to to spare room so I can have my pillow all to myself Grin.

FoscarC · 13/08/2014 12:58

pinkandstrippey I have a lot of discharge too. It not green. More creamy in colour but definite tinges of yellow. Nice!! It isn't lumpy though. Apparently it's all the old cells as you grow and produce new cells the old ones are shed. Which is why you get so much more.

ELA88 · 13/08/2014 12:58

Ohh pickled I've just been in kiddicare and couldn't see the dream genii in there! To be honest there was just tons of boxes everywhere! I looked online but there's no sale online! DH really wants to try out prams so that's what we've been doing today! I feel a bit of a fraud though because I don't really even look pregnant and I'm surrounded by women about to pop! Xxx

HollyBen · 13/08/2014 13:01

There is a greater chance of placental abruption and stillbirth aged 40 (hence the scans) and advised induction at 40 weeks. She did say that if I was really against being induced they could not force it and I would be offered extra close mointoring. DD was 12 days late and I was really really swollen and uncomfortable for the last 6 weeks so I might bite their hands off come then! Plenty of time to decide
