Thanks kirsti may give it a whirl.

At my parents house tonight and I've forgotten to bring my pregnancy pillow. Feel lost without it, I have a genuine love affair going on with it at the mo!

binkybunny · 31/07/2014 22:50

I thought my phone had frozen when I checked just now. That must have been the longest this thread has been quiet for!

V glad I'm not having to pee in a bucket. Hats off to you ladies doing renovations!

BTW how sore is the whooping cough jab. It seems to be getting worse!

I just got a V shaped one which my DP stole because 'his back hurts'. I may smother him with it.

If I were to go to a wedding tomorrow, they'd be lucky if I was out of my pyjamas or giant shorts, so I don't think they could complain about too Christmassy!

ohthegoats · 31/07/2014 22:59

Dumbarse FTM question - do tiny babies need things like mobiles to look at? Or toy type things? I figure people give you that stuff, but just wondered.

Baby gym/mat thing is on the list for 'later unspecified date' - but could they potentially be interested in that in really early days?

What about a bouncy chair - needed early on?

cabster · 31/07/2014 23:01

binky I've done my back in too! Woke up yesterday feeling a bit stiff and it's just got worse and worse.

Luckily I'm still on the books of the local chiropractic clinic and they can see me tomorrow, not looking forward to waking up tomorrow morning though! Carrying round a 2-stone toddler probably isn't helping it...

YellowWellies · 31/07/2014 23:07

Goats they can't focus far enough in the newborn days for a mobile. J liked his from about 8 weeks on. By 12 weeks the rotter was bored of it. It was a light and sound one too!

Playmats come into their own from 3 months I'd say. We never got on with bouncy chairs or swings, they aggravated his reflux something chronic. I've heard good things about the baby Bjorn bouncy chair for refluxers as its more upright. But its fecking expensive!!!!

Those with older kids looking for a bargain I've just got J a wooden playhouse for the garden for £74.99! Half price in Argos. www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3683682.htm?storeId=10151&referredURL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.argos.co.uk%2Fstatic%2FProduct%2FpartNumber%2F3683682.htm&cjsurferid=412102267088217038&referrer=COJUN&_%24ja=tsid%3A11674%7Cprd%3A1546795&cmpid=COJUN&catalogId=10001

YellowWellies · 31/07/2014 23:08

And don't worry about toys they can't focus or hold them for the first month or two. And you'll be inundated!!!!

ohthegoats · 31/07/2014 23:31

Cool, thanks. Will leave on the 'later' list.

The big shop is happening tomorrow. Then all into a suitcase under the bed, separated into hospital stuff and home stuff. Then I can stop thinking about it for a couple of months (hopefully).

Bumpforme2014 · 31/07/2014 23:46

I thought mumsnet was down when no one was talking. I got my buggy today spent most of evening wheeling it around my house eeeekkkk so excited :-)

ExcitedCJ · 31/07/2014 23:48

Yellow I can vouch for the baby Bjorn bouncy chair it is great, was the only place my DD's reflux would not bother her. I got mine 2nd hand for £25 & it's great as you can remove the cover & wash it.
I also got a fab IKEA baby gym www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/70108177/
Which my DD loved & is really robust & could be pulled up to the bouncer chair to give her something to play with. Would second the not really interested in toys until approx 12 - 16 weeks.
I too had first full night sleep in 4 months! Chamomile tea before bed & phone turned to flight mode helped. Only 1 problem my DD woke up at 6am!

ExcitedCJ · 31/07/2014 23:50

I'm having my whopping cough injection tomorrow but not before acupuncture, massage, highlights & waxing. :) :) :)

ExcitedCJ · 31/07/2014 23:52

I was out tonight.... Sorry for not talking. Making up now!

ohthegoats · 01/08/2014 00:04

Next question is about knickers. Now, people keep talking about 'big pants' - but I've been in my normal pants up to now, and my normal bras with an extender on the band (which I've only needed to 'extend' by about half an inch - makes all the difference).

How big pants are we talking? I'm thinking post birth options really - proper tummy warmer granny pants? If so, do I go one or two sizes bigger than normal to get over my gut? Current pants are all under bump.

I'm going to buy myself 1 nursing bra for the time being - two cup sizes up from now, but same under boob (figure can use extenders if necessary) - will that do me for the first little while/being in hospital. I can't imagine having to send boyfriend out for bras, but can't imagine wanting to go myself in that first week or so (I hate bra shopping on a normal day).

porcito · 01/08/2014 00:37

goats Jojomaman have some nursing bras that somehow fit a few sizes , especially with extenders : www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/sp+emma-jane-seam-free-maternity-nursing-bras-in-breastfeeding-underwear-and-products+b7522. They may well be absolutely shit, but I'm hoping not given they don't seem to sell nursing bras here at all so I'll be walking the hospital corridors topless.

That's so good to know about toys. My parents have bought a lovely M&P bouncer but that's it so far. I have my eye on a John Lewis playmat/ baby gym but that can go on the Christmas list for adoring grandparents to get Smile.

Had a few hours sleep last night DH gave me a lovely back massage just before bed and I think Wednesday's aqua natal class has eased some stiffness. Kept rolling on to my left arm though where I had my jab.

Goats how lucky are you to be in normal underwear! Even buying supermarket cheapies I seem to be spending a fortune keep going up a size every few months Shock

Kirsti I'd wear whatever is comfy. Just got a dress from Asos for my sister's wedding. I look massive in it but it's comfy so I'm just going with that and never looking at her wedding photos!

binkybunny · 01/08/2014 05:54

Sorry dress comment to fed up not Kirsti Too early for my brain to function Confused Brew

fedupofrainydays · 01/08/2014 07:53

I'm usually a size 10 and I've got out the 16-18 primark pants I bought last time. No joke!! They are big but can't stand elastic digging in any where. Yesterday I got paranoid about my dress blowing up, not because it would flash my arse but because then people would see my huge big pants!!!

At my parents today - so nice to wake up in a finished house with no builders! Didn't sleep that well last night so in the same camp as you ladies.

I second the baby bjorn chair. We have one and ds loves it. There two types and one was better for us that the other. Obviously the more expensive one!! We used a play gym from Lamaze which moved by batteries. Very annoying tune but was soooo good for distraction / entertainment. But the best best toy ever has to be the jumperoo. For when can support own head and neck. Bout £100 new but can get on ebay for £25.

Supposed to have whooping cough on Monday but think may rearrange again as still have cold and not sure I want to feel rough for a week at work, I've only got 3 left and loads loads to do in that time!

Thanks for the dress views. Heading back home before going to the wedding so will go with most comfy! I love getting dressed up for weddings and haven't had many recently (most friends are married now) so when one comes around I feel a bit miffed I can't put on one of my lovely lk bennet / karen millen ones - but not sure I would get them past my knees or head at the mo!

YellowWellies · 01/08/2014 08:16

Oh hell yes the jumperoo - it takes up half your lounge but from 4 months (the min age) it will allow you to rediscover the luxury of eating a meal warm and at the same time as DH!

Captainmcgraw · 01/08/2014 09:01

Like the playhouse - unfortunately it's about the size of our garden!

I've lent my tatty fisherprice bouncy chair to a friend and it's got broken. However other friend is lending me her baby bjorn one (score) along with lots of other other very high quality stuff I could never have afforded myself. Very excited.

Post birth pants is the one bit of advice I always give to expecting mums. When I heard 'big pants' I just thought it meant not skimpy ones and then had to send my step mother out from the hospital to Asda for emergency granny pants in at least two sizes up. The size of the sanitary towels they give you in hospital alone warrants pants bigger than you've ever seen before. Also all that baby bump (or rather the flesh around it) that's currently nice and high just suddenly drops down just to where your pants sit so really can't stress enough that bigger is better! Very cheap though as you won't be wearing them for that long (unless you take a liking to them!)

Definitely get a jumparoo if you can! DS loved his and it meant I could actually spend between 5-20mins not holding him! Does take up a lot of space but totally worth it. Also has the added bonus of keeping toddlers away from baby, although my niece found it very funny to shake DS in it!

I am gobsmacked by the price of that baby bjorn bouncy chair Shock I was thinking of spending no more than £25 on ours so definitely be a second hand one if I can find it. I found an awesome charity shop yesterday which sells furniture, they had DS's cot in there for £20 and the crib we have for £5. I paid about £250 for both new Envy. I wish I wasn't so funny about buying second hand the first time round!

Off to the aquarium with DS today, it involves about an hours walk, really hoping my sciatica stays away!

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 01/08/2014 09:15

Also, on the subject of maternity pads. I highly recommend the tesco thin ones. IMO just as absorbent as the thick ones but much more comfy Smile
