Is anyone else tempted to get rid of their maternity clothes? I was so excited to buy mine (and I did get a lot, but mostly cheap and second-hand) and now I'm fed up of them taking up space. I've got two weeks of work left and then I can dress like a slob anyway (though I do have to start doing the school run...).

I think if I did start chucking them I'd regret it though...

Some stuff I like and want to keep anyway, like anything breastfeedy, some of my nice baggy h&m t-shirts, and some mamas and papas vests. Even some of the dresses. Well stylish, me. Might take the maternity labels out though...

Hi all, sorry to hear about some of you feeling utter pants at the mo, until this morning I was starting to feel like I was just gonna feel shite until D-Day but out of the blue feeling pretty good today, but had done nothing differently! Driving instructor said she even forgot I was pregnant because I seemed so different in comparison to last week. 12.5 driving hours down,15.5 to go before test day (which she says she hasn't booked yet) eep!
I have a 20% off discount code for M&S if anyone is interested, valid from 14th-18th August and can be used multiple times (hence my sharing!!) It's AUG14A17. It can't be used on schoolwear, made to measure shirts/suits, Best of British, sale and clearance items, furniture, branded lighting, tailoring alterations, nametapes, Personalised cards, Gift vouchers, food, flowers and booze. Knock yourselves out :)

Will catch up on thread later this eve but just a quick post to say after measuring 28.5cm at last weeks 31 week appt, today at 32 weeks I am supposedly a growthspurttastic 32.5cm! So no scan referal for being wee. Bit stunned it's gone up so much but there you go. Birth Centre still in my sights.

fedupofrainydays · 13/08/2014 17:31

I'm feeling much better this afternoon so think the sickness must be whooping cough related. And arm much less sore too.

I too suffer from really bad heart burn when I eat. Can only eat the tiniest amounts and then not sit down. I need to stand up or the pressure upwards causes the heart burn when sitting down. DH text me to say he's bought me a stash of gaviscon at the boots near his work! How romantic.

Happytimes31 · 13/08/2014 19:08

goats that would be fab thanks!

YellowWellies · 13/08/2014 19:10

Anyone really suffering with heartburn should try to get omeprazole - its awesome!

I was advised not to bounce on my birth ball whilst in labour as it can stop a back to back baby turning (pelvic circles and leaning on it only). I didn't bounce but he still stayed back to back!

I've got a scan because of GD on Friday am chuffed as I'm going to get them to check my cervix thickness too as I keep getting the same sharp pains that last time accompanied effacement. I was going to go to triage tomorrow night to get a check but think I'll wait til Friday.

Epidurals are something that loads of first timers (myself included) want to avoid. I had a very positive back to back birth at a hospital that couldn't do epidurals but was so tired by precipitous contractions and a long labour I needed help to get him out. I think if I'd have had an epidural during say 12 of the 20 hours I was dilating (with contractions just 60 seconds apart) I wouldn't have been so knackered and off my tits on gas and air and may well have managed to push him out myself. If I'm b2b again this time I'm seriously considering an epidural during the contractions so I can save energy for pushing. Having said that my experience without was still very positive. At the time you can't miss what you can't have!

Hello everyone
I've been admitted to hospital :-( went to have blood redone but my observations were abnormal pluse ad Bp sky high and temp high too. Have had all sorts of test done. Luckily baby heartbeat was good. Had IV fluids and antibiotics, drs think I'm septic from infection but not sure until test come back. I'm on IV antibiotics too. All quite scary. Pulse, temp and Bp have settled now. I'm hoping I can go home tomorrow as we planned to visit family my daughter is there already.

MundayCakes85 · 13/08/2014 19:45

Blimey Me you're really having a tough time- hope the antibiotics and drs work their magic for you. Let us know how you're doing. Glad baby's doing well Flowers

mum2kiss · 13/08/2014 20:14

Sorry to hear you are not well me :(

I originally opted for a mlu with my Dd but when I discovered it was an epidural free zone I chickened out and went with the delivery suite! Lol! I didn't end up having one but I found comfort in knowing I was in the right place if I was going to have one.

I feel like death this evening and I don't know why! I've been getting braxtons hicks all day but not regularly (maybe 1 or 2 an hour). They feel like my lungs are in a vice! I was so tired when we got home this afternoon I laid on the sofa and fell asleep for a bit. When I woke up I had a pounding headache and immediately got another vice hick! I called the maternity unit for advice and they have said take paracetamol, drink water and then go to bed and see if I'm better by morning. I should call back if the hicks get worse. I've opted for lying on the sofa snuggled up with Dd watching bake off as I can't muster the energy for a flight of stairs!

YellowWellies · 13/08/2014 20:22

My pal had an epidural for the 17 hours it took to get from 4-9cm and SLEPT then woke up in time to push. That'd suit me. They're not the evil some natural birth books would have you believe. I think I was so scared that epidural would equate to interventions and stitches that I forgot you often need those without an epidural and forgot that panic and sheer exhaustion probably lead to as many interventions. My preference is for an active / water birth but epidural is no longer off my list. I'd like to be more compus mentis when I meet junior this time. Gas and air had me off the planet.

Me oh no on the infection Sad. was it a UTI?

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 13/08/2014 20:25

Hope the test results come back OK me, must be very scary for you. Sending lots of healthy thoughts your way and hope you can come home soon.

Haven't read the epidurals post binkybunny but on our NCT course they told us the main reason they are 'bad' is because you can't maintain an active labour which could therefore lengthen it. Also labouring on your back is probably the worst position for you in terms of opening your pelvis so a higher chance you will need forceps etc, am sure goats will enlighten us further once she's read that manual Smile. I laboured on my knees leaning against DH on the sofa & my midwife told me afterwards that its a really good position to be in and how she laboured all 4 of her children!

Pregnantagain7 · 13/08/2014 20:28

OMG me you are really having a tough time of it hope you feel better soon it must have been really scary for you.

I've given birth three three times and I had two epidurals and one "natural" birth. With my first I was determined I didn't want one, had a twelve hour straight forward delivery no intervention or stitches. I had gas and air and pethedine and at no point even thought of an epidural. I'm not going to lie it was tough but as births go it was a straight forward one, at times I did feel out of control I screamed and cried a lot but in the grand scheme of things it was a short amount of time and was over quite quickly.

My second and third births were both inductions one with the drip one without I had epidurals with both as I was advised to as inductions can be more painful. My experience with both was amazing I was relaxed and calm I could feel my contractions but no pain and knew when it was time to push. They let them wear off a bit at the end so it's you are not pain free but it's no where near as painful it also means you can feel when to push. Both babies were back to back and the epidural allowed me to rest before pushing and give them more time to turn (which they didn't!) I actually had an hours sleep when I was 10 cms dilated!

I definitely think the epidural helped when delivering my last baby who was 10lb 8 and as I said b to b I had no intervention or stitches and I think being calm helped massively. Obviously this is just my experience and I'm not saying that an epidural will make everyone have an amazing birth, things happen in labour that we have no control over and nothing will change that but I found my epidurals a really positive thing and will be asking for one ASAP this time:)

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 13/08/2014 20:29

Totally agree with yellow though, I think having a good mental attitude is half the battle & if an epidural is part of that then go for it!

LondonJen · 13/08/2014 20:48

Sparkle that sounds a good plan re injection then scan. Your washing line sounds wonderful I can't wait to sort mine Smile

A 'positions' summary would be great goats thanks. Hope you can find a way to feel less shit re food consequences soon. Sorry no advice.

Me you poor thing. I am glad to hear they've settled. I hope all the drips work to get you back on form soon, in the meantime get lots of rest Thanks

Feel better Mum2 hope it's gone after rest and good nights sleep.

Thank you to whoever mentioned New Look nursing vests. Current clothes are getting tight but was recluctant to spend money on next size up, these being nursing ones made it worth doing! And Kirsti think will use that code as well. Thanks Ladies!

mrsb87 · 13/08/2014 21:32

Sorry to hear you're unwell me! I hope you feel better soon and you can go home.
I've booked into the local mlu but the hospital is building a consultant unit which opens on my due date! I've stayed pretty open minded about all forms of pain relief and I'm hoping if I feel I need an epidural at the time I will have the option one way or another. I hope to stay relaxed and open minded about the whole labour and giving birth thing. Trying not to worry about anything too much or get attached to specifics!

YellowWellies · 13/08/2014 22:00

There's just been two very nice harmonious epidural births on OBEM (even if the couples were both irritating) if you want to watch on C4+1.

binkybunny · 13/08/2014 22:33

Watched it but it just made me want an epidural more than the natural water birth I had put on my birth plan/ wish list. Having a birthing freak out now as I don't like the hospital I can have an epidural at but the mlu I had planned to go to won't give them. I don't think I can do childbirth aaaargh

YellowWellies · 13/08/2014 22:54

I honestly think the overall environment matters more and if you find you are really really struggling with early labour I'd just head to the other one! xx

pebble82 · 13/08/2014 23:10

Hello ladies. Sorry I've not been on MN for months. I'm starting to feel a bit miserable now so re-joining in for moral support. 31 weeks now and feeling a bit pathetic for moaning as still got potentially 11 weeks left (although I really hope not!). The heartburn is a pain, got Gaviscon on prescription though which is great. Pelvic pain is getting ridiculous now. Walking from the car into work and up the stairs fills me with dread some days and getting to the shops for my lunch is just out of the question. Oh and at night if it wasn't difficult enough sleeping the restless legs and cramping make sure it's near impossible. Moan moan, grump grump!!

Sorry, just feeling the need to get it off my chest as in real life I'm all fake smiles and positivity.

MrsBadCrumble74 · 13/08/2014 23:15

Thank you for the lovely comments re my qualification.
Me I really hope you feel better soon Flowers
I had an epidural with dd1 and it did help me progress through a lengthy induction so very pleased I was persuaded to have one by the midwife.
Gaviscon is my dear friend at the moment.....

ExcitedCJ · 13/08/2014 23:16

Me hope you are on road to recovery..

Hamster I am browsing the internet for regular clothes! I'm at the stage where I want to burn my maternity gear! I feel horrid & ungainly in it & just want to be off work so I can hang out in my yoga gear all day with my hair tied up.

Me23 · 14/08/2014 01:00

Thanks everyone, had another scare as started to have very regular tightenings that I could feel and picked up on monitor so been in Monitor for last 4 hours. They are settling down now so hopefully just a practice run. My cervix was closed and posterior earlier when they did speculum and swabs. My urine dip was clear but it's been sent of anyway just to make sure. The drs are a bit baffled as to what is going on. Hopefully can go home tomorrow x
