Puss what a day. Glad you're all alright!

Yes to crappy weather. Good old Sussex by the sea is most unsummery today, bit of a relief!!! My oh is supposed to be taking D's to a family BBQ in Gosport today, not sure how much fun that will be. I'm pulling the heavily pregnant card and staying home to clean lay in bed like a beached whale

LondonJen · 10/08/2014 09:31

Thanks re breastpads. I have some sample packs so I will take a couple of those and leave the box at home. Sorted!

Oh Puss I'm sorry to hear hope you're feeling much better soon x

Aww Binky he he!

I am so greatful for coluds, breeze and cool rain. It's not full on here yet though. Hope it gets below 20degrees soon. Had enough of it!

Kirstipops · 10/08/2014 10:03

Oh pusscous that sounds like a proper rotter of a day, hope you're home and settled now.
Had another lurk on the September thread, one of their other ladies is having contractions too now :)
We've settled on a girls name now, progress.
God I really need to get bedding, all I have are the 4 fitted sheets for Moses basket and a swaddling thingie. I was also gifted a lovely knitted blanket but it seems too nice to risk getting it all vommed on haha!!

ohthegoats · 10/08/2014 10:59

Has anyone heard any recent GOOD birth stories - as in, stories that don't end in emergency C sections or being rushed off to theatre for forceps?

I get that those birth stories are 'good' too, but they're not very positive to hear all the time at this point in pregnancy. Being conscious in theatre terrifies me, whatever the reason - I have to be sedated for a normal dentist appointment, let alone having a filling or anything. All because I panic at the sight of medical instruments. I'm doing hypnobirthing stuff purely for dealing with the hospital panic.

EVERY baby I've heard about being born in the last 6 weeks, from the odd one I read on here, to mates, to people at my aquanatal class, to NCT people, has been born via ECS or with massive intervention.

Kirstipops · 10/08/2014 11:56

Goats a friend of a friend had her baby girl recently, I was told the labour was quick and definitely manageable, just as her labour with her first baby little over a year ago, indeed the words were "She slid out like a wee wet pig" Grin lol

bumpbangbump · 10/08/2014 12:07

Best friends baby born 17 weeks ago. Labour was fast but manageable, so fast that she gave birth in triage. Definitely no interventions or hospital equipment needed. 1st baby.

2 friends from work who have 15 week old and 12 week olds. 12 old born in the pool, no intervention needed, no drugs, lovely easy recovery. 1st baby. 15 week old, induction. Had an epidural mainly due to a very long 1st both and the sorry this would be the same. Baby born within 12 hours with no interventions.

Girl at my baby group with 4 week old. Walked 3 miles to our park meet up. Played with the toddlies for a couple of hours. Walked another mile to the swimmn pool. Waters broke and 8/9 hours later he was born in a pool, not the public one I hasen to add!

Mine isn't recent but was wonderful. Pool fr a bit and then delivered on the bed on m side with no drugs or interventions. Recovery was longer than I expected, thought I'd be back to normal straight away as I felt so good and then did too much.

Most births are straightforward. My friend had a terrible time and as such I knew statistically I was therefore less likely to have thee same complications. That sounds mean but its true. So if all you're hearing about ave ended in cs, it's much less likely to happen to you!

bumpbangbump · 10/08/2014 12:11

So many typos... Sorry!

ohthegoats · 10/08/2014 12:25

Part of me is thinking like that bumpbang! If all I'm hearing is bad things, then SURELY then the next run of births should be straightforward! Ha.

Thanks though, in a weak moment last night (those 3am thoughts), I was thinking that I should just go in and ask for an elective C-section, because then at least I'll have some 'knowns'.

SIL gave me all her 0 - 3 month baby clothes last night. Holy crap, we're drowning in it - two suitcases of the stuff. Handily, in amongst all the stuff there are 10x tiny baby vests and 10x tiny baby sleepsuits, so I don't have to go and do any re-buying of small things, and nor will boyfriend if it indeed comes out as a 6lb-er. I've also got to find somewhere to store a suitcase full of stuff we'll probably not use - lots of tiny pairs of jeans, all too much effort with nappies. We were going to babygro it up to crawling age.

Grannyapple · 10/08/2014 15:33

goats not that recent, but my last birth last July was a an intervention free birth & quite nice! Birth before that 3 yes ago was a blissful waterbirth. I'm with you tho on the thought of being awake during a section....but hopefully you won't need a section.

For what's its worth, out of my nct lot of 8 couples, only 3 had an intervention free birth as it were...the others had sections, induced, episiotomies etc but most we're due to underlying health issues...not sure if that's representative or not but I was a bit surprised after doing the nct & the message being pushed that 'natural is best'...at the end of the day, all that matters is that you & bubba are safe & well during delivery. So if some form of intervention is required, I'm sure you'll find a way of dealing with it at the time.

Most women feel a need to divulge their birth story pretty soon after...not sure why, might be part empowerment or part of the healing process, maybe it's just unfortunate that only the intervention stories have been recounted so far?

This September thread is making me a bit nervous that I'm nowhere near organised for this baby arriving...so new carpet for hall has been ordered today so that we can get it fitted in next few weeks (have gaps in carpet in hallway after walls were removed & new doors & and a bedroom created)...then next w/e will be sorting out clothes, where baby clothes will be going & getting my bag sorted. Then I can catch up with my friend & get the Moses basket back.

MundayCakes85 · 10/08/2014 20:18

Is anyone else struggling with their partner and ridiculous names? I'm all for old-fashioned/ traditional but not too common whereas DH is just coming up with words. His 3 favourites are Ocean, Sky and Indie. I prefer things like Florence, Emmeline and Jessica all of which he's said no as "he knew a girl once..." Grrr!!

ohthegoats · 10/08/2014 20:30

Skye and Indie have both been on our list at one point.. haha.

Well I thought we were sorted on a boy's name but he's decided that it's not good enough now. It's driving me potty. I think it's important to give a child a name it's proud of and wouldn't want to change it when it's older.

ohthegoats · 10/08/2014 21:04

I think we're almost there on both now. We definitely have a girl's name sorted out, and there is one boy's name that seems to be sticking around a bit longer than any of the others.

At the beginning though, yes - he just kept suggesting words. Leaf is the one that sticks in my mind.

mrsb87 · 10/08/2014 21:17

Our girls name is sorted, Theadora Joan Smile we have a few boys names at the ready. I think we'll decide there and then if it's a boy. I have vetoed a few boys names that dh came up with, Walter being one. Hmm just not me!

Today the baby has been going NUTS - pretty much all day. I thought it was because I have had a lazy sofa based day, so it's more obvious, but actually when I went for a walk and to the shops, it was WORSE. Felt like I was going to wet myself in TK Maxx. At least for some of the time it was definite kicks by my ribs though - so it's not breech on a permanent basis just yet. Now we're back to kicks to the bladder and bottom left hand side though, so presumably it just prefers head up.

Can't quite believe I'm saying it about a child that's still inside, but I hope it's worn itself out so it sleeps tonight!

YellowWellies · 10/08/2014 21:31

I like Leif better than Leaf. Skye is still a possibility for a middle name here - its lovely too.

Porcito hope you are home and resting and feeling much better.

I thought I was off into labour last night, bloody show, lightning crotch, really hot and bothered, that odd far away mental sensation of going inside yourself, and BH getting a little too regular and long and not able to be walked or breathed away. I have taken to the couch like a dugong today and DH has run after J all day so I'm feeling much better. I called the MW today (I'm down south with the ILs) and she said with mine and my family history and GD she'd be surprised if I get to 34 weeks Shock think I'm going to ask for an exam next time I see the MW to see if my cervix is effacing and discuss steroids for wee lungs just in case. I'd like to get home first!!!! If I can get to September I'll be well chuffed. 29 +1 is too scary. 32 weeks and measuring 3 ahead I could handle as that could be 4+lb.

It made me realise we really need to sort out labour plans for J. Hope my sister has her car by then. Otherwise we'll have to drive him 20 + miles in the wrong direction before we go to the hospital or I labour alone Confused

YellowWellies · 10/08/2014 21:43

Goats on interventions - there are interventions and interventions and most are really minor. I needed ventouse to get J out as he stuck back to back but it wasn't done in surgery, took just 5 minutes and left me with 10 stitches, which were gone in 5 days. It didn't feel scary. He was right nearly crowning (oooouch!) when he stuck so I was glad they got him moving - I just was deliriously happy they got him out. I'd said in my birth plan no episiotomy (and no to lots of other things!) but changed my mind on the day. This time I'd only rule out long handled forceps. I loved my birth despite needing a bit of help at the end. The doc reckoned I'd likely have got him out myself in 20 -30 minutes or so but crumbs I'd have struggled with him stuck at that crowning fanjo burny stretching point for that long!

gunwalloe · 10/08/2014 22:31

The first September thread baby has arrived :)

I will be taking my planning more seriously still have so much to get and things to organise.

fedupofrainydays · 10/08/2014 22:31

Eeek yellow take it easy won't you. Hang in there mini yellowwelly!

gunwalloe · 10/08/2014 22:34

Yellow did you get diagnosed with GD?

fedupofrainydays · 10/08/2014 22:40

In my NCT we only had one emcs out of 8 first babies. One was forceps and two ventouse. So the majority fine and no interventions! Mine was one of the ventouse with episiotomy - because he was coming down at a funny angle he needed a bit of help with rotation and then getting him out after a long pushing stage.

YellowWellies · 10/08/2014 22:43

Yes I got the results of the GTT on Thursday night so we just had to chance it and fly south first thing Friday. I had bloody shows for about 3 weeks before J so I'm hoping its a medium range warning again! Confused

gunwalloe · 10/08/2014 22:47

You've not seen a diabetic midwife yet then? Did they tell you how much you failed by?

Myns getting worse I can't have bread at all now I'm amazed at just how evil it is I always thought toast for breakfast was a ok option but obviously not :(
