New thread ladies x

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
binkybunny · 09/08/2014 06:34

Tried the alomost laying on my back propped up pillows position London recommended and apart from stirring a few times to roll over I had a pretty decent nights sleep, even if I am wide awake at 6.30 on a Saturday Shock

Washing all of our baby things today and painting shelves for the nursery... have never been so excited to do laundry!

binkybunny · 09/08/2014 07:01

A few questions ladies on how much is needed for bedding... We have 2 x crib size cellular blankets, 2 x unknown sizes bit bigger than crib too small for cot? 1 x 0-6 month sleeping bag and I'm planning on getting a swaddled blanket to try out as well as 2x fitted crib sheets. is this enough and have we forgotten anything?

Also does anyone actually use sleep bras? I keep reading about them but can't think of anything worse than sleeping in a bra!

YellowWellies · 09/08/2014 07:44

Binky with poonamis and vom they can soak sheets in seconds - I'd have 4 cot sheets just in case!

fedupofrainydays · 09/08/2014 07:45

And matress protectors!

SweetPeaPods · 09/08/2014 07:53

I would get an extra couple of sleeping bags too. They don't dry very quickly
Sleeping bras- I didn't need them in pregnancy but once ds arrived I needed a bra to put breast pads in as otherwise I leaked everywhere while I slept. Mothercare do sleep bras that also have nursing straps. They come in small, medium, large etc which I find useful as you don't yet know how big your going to get!

fedupofrainydays · 09/08/2014 08:29

Yeah, if the baby has a poo or vom incident in the night you will need a change so you can put the dirty one on wash. For each age I think we ended up with 2 x 2.5 tog and 2 x 1 tog and and 0.5 tog for height of summer / holidays. Doubt will need all that in 0-6 months though as that's over the winter so prob won't need either the 0.5 or 1 togs!

binkybunny · 09/08/2014 09:04

Thanks all. Have just found 2 more fitted sheets when pulling everything out of the nursery wardrobe. Will add extra sleeping bags and mattress protectors to the list.

Hadn't thought about leaky boobs so sleep bras going on the ever growing 'still to get even though we have a nursery full' list!

Help! Sleeping options for babies - am so confused by all the different things. What's everyone going to be using? Moses basket? Do we need a stand? Crib? Bed nest? Cot bed? Sleepy head?

tothesea27 · 09/08/2014 09:06

Yikes, starting to feel real with all this talk of laundry. It is basically impossible for me to imagine having an actual real baby around our house in like two months even though I do my best to keep trying. I did some laundry the other day - all baby things - and my husband definitely thought I was crazy, as I tried to explain that they needed to be washed/put away in advance. I'm not sure he saw the point. Anyway we're planning on moving sometime in November so we're trying to only buy things you need for the first few months. Sometimes I panic a bit at how little we have (just some clothes right now because a friend has offered to loan us a moses basket/pram/etc until we move) but I think it will be OK somehow. The past week has been a bit stressful so I'm starting to really look forward to not being pregnant anymore but then start to worry about that whole real baby thing and the fact that I actually have no idea of what to do with a newborn!

tak1ngchances · 09/08/2014 09:16

Lulu we've got a bednest for beside our bed. A cocoonababy for daytime naps, and a cotbed for when the baby moves into her own room

binkybunny · 09/08/2014 09:24

We have a swing crib for our room, our pram is a sleepover one so will use that with the base if needed in the living room and we're going to get a cotbed for the nursery for when she's too big for the crib.

We seem to have so much stuff but still seem to have an ever growing list. I'm keen to get as much now while we have two salaries and can get the nice things we want rather than what we can afford. if I was going back to work and getting additional no I'd probably have left more of it until after she's born.

Just having HUGE Braxton hicks while typing. Practising breathing through and can't believe how effective it is Smile.

mum2kiss · 09/08/2014 09:29

I have to try and breathe through my bh too binky. Breathing is very effective during labour. In the early stages I remember breathing and walking through each contraction...

ohthegoats · 09/08/2014 09:29

The plan for sleeping is: cot or crib by the side of the bed with a sleepyhead mattress thing in it, the sleepyhead downstairs during the day, maybe or maybe not in a moses basket. Have borrowed moses basket, have not yet bought cot or crib for side of bed, but will get off ebay. We ordered our own bed yesterday, so once that arrives I can work out how much space we've got to put a bedside thing in. Worst case scenario, sleepyhead is in bed next to me.

We're hiring a bed nest (absolutely sod all second hand in our area) and having a Moses basket downstairs.

Team Pink! I have solved your name dilemmas! You may thank me later.

Dreamt last night a lady from toddler group and I were in hospital together waiting to be induced, and she proudly informed me she was going to have a girl called Ethnoclearyography. Confused

My contribution was no better as I'd decided my son would be Holliver, or possibly Hallum.

Hmm
fedupofrainydays · 09/08/2014 09:49

Hee hee cab I will add those to my short list Grin

fedupofrainydays · 09/08/2014 09:52

Yes. You need 1.5 tog or 0.5 today for summer. Or one of those merino ones that does all temps.
Think anything over 21 degrees a 1.5 tog is recommended. Ds is in 0.5 and the mo as it's like 24 / 25

fedupofrainydays · 09/08/2014 09:55

Oh and I used 1.5 for day time sleeps almost all year round

fedupofrainydays · 09/08/2014 09:57

Still jealous of people able to get everything ready. DH just rang me to tell me out bedroom was seriously rained on last night (am at my parents!) but he's found the problem. The roofers are here today so hopefully that will be the last. But it's still another MONTH til we are back in. Ie when I'm 36 weeks preg. Eeeeek.

binkybunny · 09/08/2014 10:02

We had chosen some lovely sleeping bags from Verbaudet to go with our woodland theme nursery. Then they went and discontinued them grrrr...

My sister bought us a gorgeous Cath Kidston sleeping bag but it's going to be too heavy to use next summer. She's had it ages so wouldn't be able to take it back. I'm hoping we might get use at the end of this winter if a big baby or maybe the start of next if a small one.

binkybunny · 09/08/2014 10:03

Aww fedup your name is quite apt today Sad. At least when you do move in everything will be shiny new!

gunwalloe · 09/08/2014 10:45

Eeeeek just had a nose on the September thread and one of the lady's water broke last night makes it feel like baby arriving is getting scarily close

binkybunny · 09/08/2014 11:23

Aaargh that's really freaked me out as it shows how close we're getting!

I'm good to go after 14th September I reckon. Due date is 28th, so that would make the baby full term, but give me a week of feeling that it's not 'too early' (I know this doesn't make sense, this is just how I feel). Also, we might have a bathroom sorted out by then, which would be good. Even though I'll be royally pissed off by 14th October, that would be even BETTER - potential for having a roof on the extension and fewer builders around - we'd be able to take a break in the building work at that point for a couple of weeks to get the very very NEW-born bit out of the way.

I've actually started to think about the reality of being in labour at my house, when builders are here, when we don't really have a living room, when there are no curtains at the windows, when there is no plaster on the bathroom walls, when we have a mattress on the floor as a bed etc etc, and having a bit of a panic. It's just not 'comfy' in any sort of way at all.
