Onwards into the 2nd trimester, where hopefully the bumps will overtake the poo factories!

I wouldn't like a male midwife. That's going in my birth preferences. But I have man issues :-)

Morning January-ers Blimey these threads move fast!

Just wanted to drop a quick reminder about Bumpfest - our one-day all-you-need one-stop-shop for finding out about pregnancy, birth and your baby's first six months. Book before August 3 to get reduced tickets, and even bigger savings if you book in groups of three or more.

The goody bag is worth more than the ticket price (if you use a combo of Early Bird booking and group booking), and you get lunch and drinks and snacks too.

We saw there was a batsqueak of interest last time we posted (thanks rum) so thought we'd flag again! Although we've had some group bookings come through now so maybe some of you have already organised it.

(ViviPru we've answered your query about clashing sessions on the other thread now)

Flowers to you all, especially those having a tough time.

KatnissEvermean · 30/07/2014 11:06

Good luck today Babysprout.

Sounds like your DH handled that well, ViviPru. You've already got teenager handling down!

Just had my 16 week appointment. Everything is fine and we heard the heartbeat! It always surprises me how emotional I get, when she said she was going to listen I thought I was going to burst into tears. I think I am more soppy than I realise.

ViviPru · 30/07/2014 11:10

Thanks Rowan yes Rum has kindly taken it upon herself to round up the troops (and an excellent job she's done too) - we're looking forward to it!

Loobyloo893 · 30/07/2014 11:20

That's a good point madrigals. I guess it's just about being as comfortable as u can be with who is with you. He was such a lovely
man and I felt really comfortable with him. I didn't really think about the fact he was a man until afterwards. There was one female midwife I saw who was completely horrible, I'm so glad I didn't have her.

Just popping in for a quick read - mummyk, I can look into this if needed for you, I would assume it is relatively similar in the instance of you being employed - this is

you need to have made a minimum level of contributions to be entitled to SSP (sick pay). this is payable for 28 weeks max.

If you want I can look at this further as I normally only get my hand dirty with employees and not self employed folk so would need to check as the above is only my understanding :)

RowanMumsnet · 30/07/2014 11:49

@ViviPru

Thanks Rowan yes Rum has kindly taken it upon herself to round up the troops (and an excellent job she's done too) - we're looking forward to it!

Yay! Look forward to seeing you there then.

Babysprout · 30/07/2014 13:19

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. Everything was completely fine - baby looked healthy and had a good heartbeat. It was amazing at how much he/she had changed since the scan 2 weeks ago. We felt so lukcy getting to have another look. They said my placenta looked fine so no concerns there. They've suggested perhaps I have an overly cautious midwife and pains/ discharge is most likely to be due to cervix stretching and things moving about. Yay Smile.

vivipru I am so impressed with how your DH dealt with that - very calm and like you said - win win!

ViviPru · 30/07/2014 15:05

Yay glad to hear that Sprout Smile

cheshirem2b · 30/07/2014 15:35

Good news Sprout! We had similar but back at 7 weeks (seems aaaaaaaages ago now) but very pleased you had a good news day!

KatnissEvermean · 30/07/2014 16:21

Great news Sprout, and lovely to get another peek at your baby.

I don't think I would mind a male midwife in theory, but I don't know if it would actually make me feel uncomfortable in real life because I've never been in that situation before. As long as the person seems competent and kind I think I'd be happy.

Does anyone else reeeeally hate urine samples? Mine was just sitting on the desk while my midwife was writing my notes and it just felt weird! I'm sure less dignified things are coming, but at the moment it makes me cringe.

LadyFlashHeart · 30/07/2014 16:29

Hello thread, can I come and play?

Have been lurking for ages, and reading loads of great advice. When people ask what books/methods etc I am following I just say I'm on Mumsnet!

This is my first pregnancy and I'm 14+6 with EDD 22nd Jan, but hoping very much for ELC on 15th Jan.

After a blessedly easy 1st trimester I've been a little bit detached from what is happening. But I've recently done my back in and found out that I'm anaemic, so its beginning to dawn on me that I need to start eating better and taking it a bit easier.

Cake to all, in lieu of an icecream smiley!

ViviPru · 30/07/2014 16:33

Just booked my course at the local pre-and post-natal fitness club. I'm still annoyed I can't find yoga nearby but this looks like the next best thing, is just round the corner and seems to have a really active social side. The post natal buggy group starts out from the pub 100yds from my house so really convenient too. Look! I'm going to be one of these in a years time! (yes I admit I was totes sold by the pub socials Blush )

Also I've just realised it's my 20 week scan next week - OMG how did that happen?! Confused

ViviPru · 30/07/2014 17:21

Hi LadyFlash, I understand what you mean about feeling a bit detached, my 1st trimester has been a bit of a breeze too so has felt the way you describe. Welcome to the thread!

RPopz · 30/07/2014 17:28

Haha Kat ... I hate it when they make you take it back in the waiting room with you!! Blush lol

Has anyone got any experience of Lazy Daisy antenatal classes? I'm contemplating that as am also struggling to find local yoga. Planning on going to aquanatal tomorrow Grin Is it dreadfully inappropriate to go in a bikini...? Hmm

RPopz · 30/07/2014 17:30

Welcome Lady - 2nd trimester should be known as the detached trimester I think!! No proper bump... not many symptoms... even my husband has stopped thinking I'm pg recently lol x

mummyk8 · 30/07/2014 18:18

LadyFlashHeart Welcome :)

Well I'm back from the Dr's - She signed me off for 4 weeks to be reviewed at the end with the possibility of being signed off even longer after!!!! As well as being in even more pain after being poked and prodded I'm utterly devastated and worried about work and money etc... Queue hormone overload and floods of tears in the Dr's room, at the reception desk, in the car park and the pharmacy .... She also prescribed me codeine, I can't say I like the idea of taking that at all while I'm pregnant.

SK28 · 30/07/2014 20:08

Welcome LadyFlash!

MummyK I'm sorry you seem to be having such a tough time of things - it must be hard when rationally you know you must put your health and baby's health first but the other factors are hard to ignore...

Babysprout I'm glad you got some reassurance today and how lovely to get another look at baby.

I have my 16 week scan tomorrow so hoping to hear baby's heartbeat. I also booked a pregnancy yoga course today to start in September at 20 weeks, which I'm super-excited about!
