I want to paint the nursery mint green but DH isn't keen (it's already got mottled green wallpaper).

Had my 28 wk appointment this morning. FH is 28cm so the fact I've barely put on weight isn't affecting Blueberry, and had my bloods done by the experienced midwife (as opposed to the student who did my BP and measured the FH) with no sign of a bruise. Which is good as the bruise from GTT two weeks ago has only just gone.

ladydolly · 14/08/2014 11:55

Just realised the midwife forgot to give me my anti d injection. She's really lovely but there does seem to be a lot of this kind of this. She asked for my wee sample this morning and she hadn't given me a pot or asked me for it last time, luckily I squeezed one out there and then (errrr TMI?)

So back over there at lunchtime!

amy83firsttimer · 14/08/2014 15:39

Midwife done. Blood taken no problem. Yay!

TwigletFiend · 14/08/2014 15:44

lady, Grin at 'squeezing one out'! I also have no sample pot for next appointment as I forgot to pick one up last time, so will be peeing into one of my (many) mini Kilner jars and taking that. Yum. Hope you got your injection sorted!

amy, glad your veins co-operated and everything else was presumably ok. Can I ask how long you were in there for? I have booked to have the whooping cough jab 20 minutes after my MW appointment and am now a bit worried that they will overlap!

Toni, glad all was well for you too, especially in light of the lack of weight gain. Very comforting for me as am in a similar situation, though think I have put on a good couple of kilos now. It sounds silly, but how do they know how much of FH measurement is baby and how much is you?!

Annarose2014 · 14/08/2014 16:12

The other day they gave me one of those skinny white pots that are for sputum!

Thank god I had a good wee in me and was able to catch a bit. But it was like catching a butterfly in a net! Grin

weeonion · 14/08/2014 16:31

afternoon folks... I have been in work since 7am trying to keep on top of things, worked through lunch and so - decided to have a MN catch up. Will try and respond to some people but pleaae . no offence to anyone i miss out Grin

miskate - it sounds like transverse baby?? was maternity action able to advise you in any way about your job worries? i also thought you couldnt be made redundant whilst on mat leave??

My mat cover is advertised on Friday. i dont think they will get anyone to cover s it is such a specific set of skills / experience required. i know my poor colleague really really needs someone in, as do I. I am trying to fit a years work into the 6 months from april to oct but .... another part of me doesnt want just anybody coming into my post. I have a great job and feel incredibly lucky to have it and dont want anyone to much it up. precious much?? Grin

ladydolly - just booked in fr 2nd set of lazydiasy classes - i am really enjoying them - how are you finding them??
fantastic news for you on the windfall - that is great. i guess it couldnt have come at a better time and gives you real breathing space Smile

bunny kitten - that is such a shame about your appts. did you manage to get any further with it for your next set of appointments?. I always go in with a sheet and my questions etc so i am clear as to what i want to get out of each meeting. My MW now jokes about it but i dont want any "white coat" syndrome to cloud my thinking! :-]

twiglet - your nursery sounds really fab. love the sound of it - and quite fancy it for my own bedroom actually!! our nursery is still a work in progress - ahem! it is rainbow coloured and DD is doing a huge rainbow mural on one wall. she has also painted pictures which we have framed for the wall. I have still the curtains and bunting to complete ......

Shocked at some of the bump comments people make - twigletbump and those comments!!!!
Babybutton – glad you had a good holiday and poor you – still copng with sickness.

Annrarose – maybe your MIL is just jealous of all attention and support on here?? Also jealous of the idea of a waddle of online pg ladies ready to jump to your defence???
I am really pleased that you got support and reassurance from MW re bf and visits. Everyone is different but I thik should be careful befre we generalise and knock them all entirely – not all interfering bodies.
In my experience – I knew exactly when they were coming – with pre arranged times and if that needed to change they rang me. A couple of times I said it didn't suit – they were fine with that. I never felt they were checking up on me or snopping – I found them really supportive, especially with breastfeeding. Like greenstone – they didn't bat an eyelid at my messy house and more concerned with how baby and i were doing and how bf was going.

Babyshowers – glad those who have had them enjoyed them. a couple of friends mentionend one for me but then they had a rethink as they know what I am like. For me – I think they can be so focused on spending money and are a bit too commercialised for me. I have suggested that if they really want to do something - we go for a low key lunch instead.

Vicky – no heartburn here but hopefully someone will be along with ideas. Maybe someone on sept or oct thread has coped with it??

For those who asked - i think blood tests are standard at 28 weeks – hopefully all those who dont like it / bruise etc will get off easily??

Hopeful – hopefully yr furniture arrived and is constructed as we speak …..

I had my 30 wek scan and appt yesterday. growth is spot on - head, stomach, arms, legs etc. Amniotic fluid fine and despite worry of a few weeks ago - measuring spot on for dates. All good. baby transverse - with head facing down so now gotta spin this baby!!!
Met with consultant too - she is lovely. I had her last time as well. All on for my homebirth and no indicators at this stage that i shouldnt get it. I also re-iterated that i WILL NOT be induced on due date! DP was fab support on that too.

Into my last 10 weeks - yeeehaaaa!

blamber · 14/08/2014 16:36

Twiglet I don't think they'll accept a urine sample in a Kilner jar no matter how creative the solution! Those pots they give you are sterile. If there is contamination they might get a false result. Best to just ask for a pot there and have a wee there.

TwigletFiend · 14/08/2014 16:46

blamber, you have a point. However, I am an experienced jam/preserve maker and have a sterilise setting on my dishwasher. Wondering if running it through that will satisfy?! I have a bit of an issue with err... performing under pressure so not sure I could do it there and then Blush

weeonion, so very jealous you're on the 10 week countdown! I am going between worry over not having everything even remotely ready to just wanting Bean here now. I am also making sort-of bunting for my nursery, to string 'from a branch' in the tree to the top corner of the door frame. Luckily have bought a bit of excess fabric and trim for the curtains, so will have enough left over to make some pretty little flags to hang on it! Am also just signing up for Lazy Daisy classes, so am glad to hear you're enjoying them so much. Fingers crossed it's the same for me! How long does each 'term' of classes run?

Vicky, are you sleeping propped up? If it's dire try going to GP and asking for some Omeprazole. Brilliant stuff!

weeonion · 14/08/2014 16:55

twiglet - your nursery just sounds better and better Grin

The Lazydaisy classes up here run in a set of 6. have just completed one set but as i have been a bit remiss in actually sitting practising them, I think a second set would be handy. plus - they are really the only time in the week where i get to be settled and calm. I am doing a photoshoot for them on sunday morning. DP and i will get 3 couple classes for free in return Grin.

amy83firsttimer · 14/08/2014 17:41

Was in for 15 mins. I've not sorted whooping cough vaccine and forgot to mention it too. What's the latest you can have it??

OP posts:
ToniWol · 14/08/2014 17:46

I hope the pots aren't meant to be sterile as I got given one at my 16 week appointment and was told to reuse it!

I think the mw can tell what's baby and what's mum when measuring FH by the firmness of the bump. What there is of me is much wobblier/squishier than the bump is.

weeonion · 14/08/2014 18:02

amy - is it 32 weeks??

toni - also been told to reuse wee pots!!!! i have been rinsing them in Milton?

Hopeful83 · 14/08/2014 18:32

Been told to reuse wee pots? Seriously?? I just grab one at reception on the way out each time at my surgery

Annarose2014 · 14/08/2014 18:32

Pots are definately meant to be sterile! Shock Otherwise how can the lab know what bugs are from the wee??

Kantha · 14/08/2014 19:14

Last pregnancy and this (different NHS trusts) I have been given one pee pot to keep and reuse. The sample never goes to a lab. I think that the MW just dips a litmus test type paper into the sample and gets an instant result.

My only trouble this time is that I gave my (unused) pot away to a friend who was running late for a hospital appointment. She promised to get me replacement from the pharmacy, but that was two months ago. I will have to have words with her this weekend. Wink

Strawberryfield12 · 14/08/2014 19:18

Amy the jab can be done from 28-38 weeks, NHS recon the best time is 28-32 weeks, but can be done later.

amy83firsttimer · 14/08/2014 20:08

Oh my god the plumber's only just left!!!! I finally feel like I can relax. DH can't understand why I'm knackered but it's tiring having to think about when and where you can pee all day when you need to pee all the effing time!!! Luckily I have an amazing neighbour and a key to her house but still stressful. I've made pasta sauce but told DH he's finishing off and bringing me dinner.

OP posts:
ToniWol · 14/08/2014 20:19

Just to clarify on the pot - the mw tests for the protein in the urine during the appointment - I suspect I would maybe get a sterile pot if it tested positive at that point and a further sample needed to be tested more thoroughly - but so far they've all been negative.

MrsDowneyJunior · 14/08/2014 22:51

My mw just rinses my pot out each time & gives it back to me.

blamber · 15/08/2014 10:15

Oh right I get a new pot every time! Twiglet I would then just give it a go with your jar!

TwigletFiend · 15/08/2014 10:17

Haha, my poor little Kilner jar! Needless to say, I don't think I'll be reusing that particular pot... Hmm

Annarose2014 · 15/08/2014 10:26

Still struggling with names here - how is it that we don't like anything?

Are we name snobs?!

DH wants hippyish names, I don't. So we've agreed to compromise. But we both hate all the names in the middle!

We don't like Traditional English, we don't like Biblical, we dont like Modern.......Aaaaahhhh!

My worst fear is that we'll find one that neither of us actively dislike and we'll call the baby a name thats basically the equivalent of us going "Meh....it'll do...." Hmm

I think I'm going to have to buy a book.....

TwigletFiend · 15/08/2014 10:56

Anna, what are the names you like and the names DH likes? Could you compromise by having something that is more conventional but can be shortened to something 'hippyish' maybe?

weeonion · 15/08/2014 11:00

I asked DP about wee jars. he is a nurse. he thought that they didnt need to be sterile as only testing for certain things.

He was a bit Confused that my "net of mummies" were talking about it.
I reassured him that we talk about all manner of things Grin

TwigletFiend · 15/08/2014 11:06

Did you tell me about the soggy fanjo/cervical mucus discussion, weeonion? Grin
