Frenetic some areas don't/didn't tell people gender, in area I work in until about 18 months ago didn't tell you the gender but offered a gender scan for £80 but they recently got rid of the policy. You can always ask/double check they will tell you when you go to the 12 week scan.
My friend had her scan and wanted to know but expected to be asked if they wanted to know at the end the lady stood up to put measurements into computer and they said 'so what was the sex?' And she said 'oh you didn't as me to look' so they couldn't find out, luckily this was a few weeks before mine with ds so as soon as I walked in I said I wanted to know Grin

I have had bad guts tonight but managed to eat well today. I have to drive to Sheffield tomorrow to see my consultant, such a long way and I know it will make me feel ill travelling that far

LittleMissSunshine33 · 20/07/2014 21:25

Frenetic my boobs looks like they have a road map drawn all over them!

bellaboo88 · 20/07/2014 22:13

Hi ladies,

I'm getting a bit nervous for our scan a week tomorrow. Still sometimes ill even with my tablets (which I'll assume is a good sign) and I have sore nips but I'm not exactly getting up to pee in the night. In fact, I'm hardly peeing at all. Is this normal?

Dp starting new job day of the scan so gutted he'll miss it & I'm dreading them saying mmc.

Anyone else not really accepting it yet?

X

Memphisbelly · 20/07/2014 22:20

Bella last time I couldn't get off the loo nearly wet myself numerous times as I was constantly busting, this time drinking loads and loads but only having about 3 pee's a day! Hope wll goes well tomorrow are you taking anyone else with you for support

freneticfox · 20/07/2014 23:06

Bella, I'm only peeing a lot at night despite drinking loads. I also worry about MMC. my scan isn't until 6th August by which time I'll be 13w. Seems like such a long time to wait.

Memphis, will definitely ask them what their policy is. We were thinking about a private scan just in case they won't tell us.

Desperately keen to get into the second trimester now!

Scan today! V nervous and DH not able to come due to work commitments but hopefully all will be ok.

bellaboo88 · 21/07/2014 08:27

Its weird isn't it. I expected to be running to the loo! Its two weeks today sorry, was exhausted last night when I posted. Our mums are coming with me.

Its not as if I can pee on a stick to make my fears go away. Bug ms constantly is a good sign right? Xx

blankfornames · 21/07/2014 08:41

Bellaboo, I have the same fear as you. I did have a scan at 7+5 and all was fine but that was 2 weeks ago. I have had very little nausea all along and my severe tiredness & sore boobs have practically disappeared. It's so hard not knowing. The fact that you still have MS, to me is a very good sign. When I mc before, I needed the toilet all the time but not this time. Roll on the big scan & when we can feel our little Beans moving inside! Although I'm sure we'll have something else to worry about then!!

fluffymouse · 21/07/2014 09:00

frenetic if they don't tell you the gender you can book a private scan. Sometimes its not possible to tell the gender anyway at 20 weeks based on the positioning of the baby.

I'm still waiting to hear about my booking appointment or scan. 9+1 today.

hanflan · 21/07/2014 10:02

Morning all! Hope you all had a lovely weekend! I went on a spa weekend with my lovely bestie (booked long before my bfp) and it was heaven. Never felt so relaxed! It was a shame that I couldn't go in any of the spa rooms like steam/sauna, jacuzzi etc. and also couldn't get two of the treatments we had booked but they were lovely and swapped some things around. Got a pedicure, facial and scalp rub. Lush!
I really want to go back in December/Jan when I am feeling like a hippo and have one of the "Beautiful Bumps" treatment packages haha.

hanflan · 21/07/2014 10:03

Oh and I didn't vom "high five!" Had a couple of close calls though hahaha.

BanglesSpangles · 21/07/2014 11:14

Greetings from very sunny Spain. Currently hiding out in reception taking advantage of the free wifi while the other girls bake in the sun- home time today. Have had a great few days but I don't half miss my hubby!

Interesting that the pregnacare vits seem to be disagreeing with so many. I've just been taking folic acid (because I didn't think I'd be able to eat enough marmite to get the rda!), but the mw was pretty insistent that I should get vit d too at the very least, but she was pushing for a proper multi vit... Surely all this sunshine kinda negates the need for it? And I'm not a fan of taking vitamin pills anyway tbh- I figure I eat a healthy diet, so what's the need to pay for 'artificial' vits?

freneticfox · 21/07/2014 12:55

Back at work after two weeks off today and not coping well. I have no idea how I'm going to do this until February.

LondonBOB · 21/07/2014 14:51

Had our scan today 10+2 (.private) and it was so so good to hear the strong heart beat Smile and be told was measuring normal! yolk sack etc all informal size. Such a reassurance compared to having to wait 4 more weeks for my '12' week scan on NHS when I'll be 14 wks!
On multivitamins, I was severely vitamin D deficient a couple of years ago (apparently 40% of Europeans are) and I took it in spray version, mint flavoured. So that might be better to stomach?
Folic acid - loads of it in rye bread and spinach!?
Oh and new side effect.... I've had a stinking headache for nearly 24hrs now.... Any suggestions?

BanglesSpangles · 21/07/2014 16:16

Coo, really- 40% seems so high! Wonder if it'll come up if you're deficient in the blood tests... God idea on the rye bread- I'm a bit of a fan of that anyway, and didn't realise spinach was high either

Great news on the scan too, bob, just a shame you had to fork out for a private one- 14 weeks is such a long time to wait!

LondonBOB · 21/07/2014 16:52

I know, it's a lot of money, but I'm glad now.
Vit D deficiency apparently so common due to poor weather combined with office working and sunscreen usage. They actually call it a doctor led illness!
Anyway, I got specifically tested due to aches pains in bones. After months do supplementing at v high rate got it to normal levels. The official RDA is also widely known to be way too low... Should be getting 25mg per day ideally. Helps Bones, energy, mood, depression too.

Memphisbelly · 21/07/2014 18:17

I have vit d deficientcy and have a chewable lemon tab.

londonbob I drank more and bought one of those 4 head sticks it really helped ease the pain, paracetamol does nothing for me at all.

Sorry Bella I misread your scan thing I have been so tired recently

I have had to drive 100 miles to my consultant today and I have been told I habe got to inject myself from day of birth until baby is 6 weeks old in my stomach! Im so tired after such a long day driving, blood tests, mobility testing amongst other things in my 2 hour long appointment! Now got 20 mins to shower and go and meet friends for a curry

freneticfox · 21/07/2014 18:23

11w tomorrow; hoping the ms is going to start sodding off soon. Work was awful today, was so tired could barely stay awake.

I think the pregnancy 'glow' is blatantly a myth to lull us into a false sense of hope. grumps around

cactusnic · 21/07/2014 18:40

Memphis - i had to do the clexane injections for the 6 weeks after DS was born (and assuming it'll be the same this time) - it really wasn't bad. Just be very careful shaving when you're on it! Oh, and i had them for a few days when i was in hospital a few months back - watch out for nosebleeds!

Dating scan today - been put at 11+2, and told that baby is very wriggly and active. Sonographer was so so nice, which i needed after a lot of negativity from various health "professionals" about the pregnancy. Even got pretty clear pics. :-)

Feeling nauseous still, and sore stabbing pain low down in pelvis. So waiting for the "glowing" part to come!

GeekyHybrid · 21/07/2014 21:47

I broke down and went for a private scan today. Chasing NHS and getting nowhere and with the hen night on Friday - aagh. Was getting myself all stressed cos a good friend started telling people at 10ish weeks, went for the scan and was mmc. I'll be 12w on Saturday and 13w at the wedding so really wanted to be able to tell people with confidence.

So anyways, when I phoned to enquire they could do a £39 scan either this evening, or Sunday. So off we went. Sproglet is very much there and very active, wriggling and kicking. The sonographer was surprised I was pregnant because it turns out I have a lot of fibroids, some quite big. No wonder it took over a year to conceive. So we are very much relieved and went to the in-laws on the way home to give them the news. I feel so much more relaxed now but along with quite a few of you resent that the '12w' scan is obviously a myth in some parts of the country and that we end up paying out. Oh well.

Keep going frenetic - it's GOT to get better. Thinking of you.

fluffymouse · 21/07/2014 22:03

jack I just heard today about my booking in appointment and scan date. A full 5 weeks after I self referred.

I was pleasantly surprised that my booking in appointment is on a Saturday though. No need to be awkward about asking for time off. (I'm waiting till 12 weeks to tell work)

cactusnic · 21/07/2014 22:45

Geeky - i'm so glad you've had a scan, but its ridiculous that you've still heard nothing about the NHS dating scan. I was similar with my DS - it was almost 14 weeks before i finally got an appt. Its so hard.

Memphisbelly · 21/07/2014 23:03

Cactusnic thanks for reassurance think it is, I need to see a clotting specialist, he said they will try and keep me in for 3 days after birth and I cried, I hate hospitals and the thought of leaving ds that long so consultant is writing to them to say its in my best interest to go home asap after birth. I am petrified of injections, I have to have loads of bloods and monthly injections but these scare me, I had keyhole surgery when 28 weeks pg last time and these tiny holes needed dressing with my face covered as I couldn't bear to see a stitch, my labout last time was well over what they like to leave you as I refused a c section as ds was still doing ok, big big fear of needing one pf those.

Geeky so pleased all ok for you and nice to be able to tell people

Bimberley · 22/07/2014 07:57

Just caught up! I'm 12+1 today and have my scan Friday. Symptoms have all gone and I'm so worried something is now wrong! 3 more days to go! I also lacked taking my folic acid in the early weeks due to a hospital stay and bad nausea, I just couldn't keep them down. I'm now thinking I've done damage and it will all be my fault :( Hope everyone is ok!

jenmcspen · 22/07/2014 13:43

Have just had my scan and it looks like we have a proper little wriggler on our hands! Grin Due date moved forward too. 30th jan now.
Hope everyone doesn't have to wait too long for theirs, i was so worried before hand, so was a massive relief Smile
