Just saying hello to you all you wondeful women carrying the next generation of horrors, angels and mad scientists.
I plan to paint the nursery in about four weeks when i have some leave, beyond that we won't be sorted but the we also plan to have Schrodenburg in our room for a few months.
I'm sorry that there is so much discomfort involved for some of you and I hope you are being treated like Wizards by those around you. We had our first NCT calss on monday night (we're due Oct 16th). I consider myself begrudgingly middle class (don't like some of the implications of that) but my goodness some of those lovely Hoorays will be slumming it if they make friends we me Grin I was impressed with the way the group was run (something I know about for different subjects) and really pleased that the stuff I know about mindfulness and breathing and things are likely to help.
Anyone else started theirs yet?
I also have now definietly organised to start the beginning of my four years Family Therapy training in September. It's going to be fine having a baby in the house, a full time job (with a day release for my fortnightly trip to Cambridge) and the coursework for a postgrad course and of course my share of our housework and stuff to do wont it?
Hmm

Lulu298 · 09/07/2014 20:08

Hello everyone,

May I join? I'm due at the end of October and it's our first baby - eek! Smile

Kirstipops · 09/07/2014 20:14

Yep pusscous they were a defensive lot weren't they! I was glad to get back to our nice supportive open-minded October ladies thread!!

Yep Puppy that sounds a piece of cake ;)

Welcome Lulu ! It's my first too, howz your pregnancy been so far?

Lulu298 · 09/07/2014 20:20

Thanks Kirstipops!

Have had morning sickness, my pre-pregnancy sciatic nerve problem keeps flaring up and my stomach acid is horrendous! But apart from that, it's been pretty good Smile

Kind of dreading the next 3 months of commuting on the tube...

I think like lots of parenting issues, in the UK cosleeping has become factional - Gina Ford vs attachment parenting; co sleeping vs not; cry it out vs wait it out; BF vs bottle. One thing I would say is less than 5% on my last thread started out wanting to cosleep - easily 40% ended up doing it. You might prefer not sharing a bed now but if that's vs earsplitting tear jerking screaming for hours - its only human to change your mind. Better 3 hours fitful sleep than none is likely a choice we'll all be faced with on shit nights (may they be rare! but after jags, teeth, growth spurts etc they do happen). I'm glad we never really needed to cosleep with J (just one night when he cut 4 teeth in one go! and the night after his 12 month jags when he was inconsolable) but never say never - I don't want to jinx it this time!

JellyBeansHaveNoAgeLimit · 09/07/2014 20:37

OMG the GTT test sounds horrible pusscous! I can't believe they made you go 11hrs without water, i think i would die! I am really hoping that's not the test i need, but i think it is Sad

Welcome Lulu Smile

FlipFantasia · 09/07/2014 20:45

Pusscous I've got my screening next week. Hope to avoid a full GTT! Hope the bruises heal soon.

Frau thanks for the thread link. I'll try to check it out. I loved co-sleeping - planned it with both and had sidecar cot, followed rules re bedding etc. Will do the same this time. Much better to do that than fall asleep on a sofa IMO. But each to their own I say - what works for one won't work for another! We'll all be pretty knackered no matter what!

My bump seems to have changed shape so wondering if baby is head down now (was transverse at last check up a couple of weeks ago).

Me23 · 09/07/2014 20:53

pussxos you shouldn't have had to go without water for gtt. It is fine to have water and doesn't affect the result, it is in our gtt guideline.

puppy no nct for me apart from the fact it's no3 and I'm a midwife, I feel quite removed from the type that does nct, in my area at least they are "naice" and quite posh (the majority) I work in same area so not just stereotyping! Their houses are palaces compared to mine. Te majority have housekeepers and maternity nurses, it's a whole different world.

Kirstipops · 09/07/2014 20:58

Pusscous that does sound hellish, glad for you it's over!!!

I haven't needed any Cocodamol today! Last night dp massaged lavender oil into my back and it hasn't hurt since, but I wasn't sat at my desk all day today so...my hip has been achy but not bad enough for pain killers...so I'm yet to try the wonder drug. I have had incredibly bad trapped wind today. I decided to try lactose free milk yesterday and I fear that may be the culprit! It did not agree with me at all but I tried it because I was getting fed up with almond milk on my cereal...the pain I had from the trapped wind today though had me practicing my breathing technique for labour!

Dp doesn't like the idea of Co sleeping...I like the idea of sleeping...so we'll see what happens!

gunwalloe · 09/07/2014 21:49

Buggerlugs I was thinking the same Hmm

YellowWellies · 09/07/2014 21:52

Pusscous the GTT allows you to drink water - as there's no sugar to metabolise in it. Am so cross you were told not to drink! Shock

And yes to co sleeping being safer than falling asleep with them on the sofa. I found getting into a box set essential in the first two months to keep me awake during night feeds. I never fed lying down as we never got the hang of it (I got a dead arm!!!).

ExcitedCJ · 09/07/2014 21:52

Gun & Bugger me too!!! Might do a bit of online research & try & find out how much it cost!

mrsb87 · 09/07/2014 21:53

buggerlugs yes! Why, if you're so worried about your modesty, would you be on the telly giving birth? It is a bit of a monstrosity, haha.

YellowWellies · 09/07/2014 21:54

Mum2 have you tried koko coconut milk on your cereal? Even though I'm nominally back on dairy I've stuck with koko as its really tasty (on cereal - non of them work in tea Envy ).

pusscous · 09/07/2014 22:18

Thanks for the sympathy- I found the test pretty horrendous, but that's how I react to high doses of sugar. Unfortunately the regulations of the test here in my state (not UK) are different and water banned, small sip before test commences is all thats allowed. Though water has no sugar, it dilutes the sugar in your bloodstream if drank in sufficient quantities which is what they are worried about- a more accurate result is arrived at without water- informed by multiple sources. From reading there are other variations from the UK! But I passed and its over thats all that matters! And those having it in the UK follow your guidelines not what I did.

Does it matter that much that since the test my consumption of carbs has increased, esp homemade cookies and bread???

Mum glad the oil and massage helped- you might need to enlist DP every evening then.

ohthegoats · 09/07/2014 22:36

I had the GTT a month or so ago. In the 12 hours that followed it I ate 2 iced buns, an egg mayo roll, a pizza and went out for dinner for a burger. Quite a lot of chocolate too. I'd drunk water, but it was still a pretty miserable day - nearly passed out before the last test, was literally shoving the iced bun in my mouth as she took the needle out of my arm.

Third NCT thing tonight.. it's amazing what the other people just don't know. Really odd that none of them seem to have read anything at all. I tend to think that knowledge is forearming myself.

pusscous · 09/07/2014 23:01

Good luck Flip for the screening. What does your state/ midwife say aout water, interested to hear all the variations.

Goats glad it is not just me that is a mess after the test, DH had to pick me up, practically blacking out in the car afterwards. Before test I was like bring me food lots and a big hot chocolate with lots of cream. The second I had the drink desire for any food went. No idea what I had for dinner that night, did not feel veyr coherent at the time. I have a large bruise on hte top of my right leg, spent a day wondering why the leg was sore, only to remember last night that I bashed it on a chair leg whilst doing the gtt. glucose high causes a lack of memory and poor spelling i think...

MrsDinoRawr · 10/07/2014 07:24

I have my gtt test today... Not looking forward to it. Have been told only to sip water since 9pm last night and no food. Really missing breakfast! They can never get blood out of me on a good day. Midwife had to send me to hospital for last lot and then it took two different people before they got anything. God help them when I am dehydrated. Am I likely to be going back to work this afternoon do you think or is heading for my sofa a better plan? Work have booked me a supply teacher all day but I run an after school club so I am wondering whether to try to go back in afterwards.

ohthegoats · 10/07/2014 08:07

Dino - I went back to work, but it was probably a mistake (I'm a teacher). I was quite wobbly. Pathetic really - 17 hours without food, and I wasn't right for 24 hours. Baby wasn't very happy either - lots of major churning going on from the moment I drank the glucose until probably 24 hours later - so I felt quite sick as well.

It's not a very nice test. I wasn't the only one in there having a wobble - all the others had their partners with them, I'd blithely cycled up alone on a really hot day. Stupid.

Kirstipops · 10/07/2014 08:18

Good luck to Dino and other ladies who have the GTT test coming up, I take it I won't be getting it as nobody has mentioned it to me yet but I remember having very similar sounding glucose testing when I was around 10yo prior to being diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency; definitely not a fun day but even the hospital food after tasted AMAZING, so plan yourself some lovely treats after to look forward to!

It's a test for gestational diabetes - glucose tolerance test.

For cramps I would say potassium (bananas), hydration and lots of calf stretches plus wiggling feet in bed

MrsDinoRawr · 10/07/2014 09:21

My husband dropped me off but has carried on to work. Am sat by a fan with my kindle... So far enjoying the morning off work but sure that will change as soon as they start trying to get any blood. Don't think everyone has gtt just having it because my vim was high.
