Same here with out in hills. I'm DESPERATE to get back to hiking around the countryside instead of waddling along a flat street with stitch.

YellowWellies · 24/07/2014 17:00

Hiking with babies is much easier than toddlers especially before they're onto solids. Go for it! I have a bizarre list of rocky outcrops and scenic spots on which I've BF or changed a dirty bum Smile

Me23 · 24/07/2014 17:09

hamster please don't worry a lot f women become slightly anemic in pregnancy it is physiological we have around 50% more blood pumping around our bodies so sometimes the quality of the red blood cells isn't very good so we don't have enough haemoglobin.

Don't worry about baby it can make you feel awful-tired, breathless chest pain palpatations but baby will take everything it needs from you leavin you without- the placenta is a great organ! You will most likely be advised to take iron supplements, spa tone is a lot more gentle on the body than ferrous sulphate but doesn't contain a great deal of iron so if you have more moderate anemia it may be worth taking the tablets. If it was severe they would have you go to the hospital for iron transfusion- this is not common. I've been anaemic in all of my pregnancies and my babies and I were fine!

I've got to go back to the doctors on Monday to double check I don't have preeclampsia. Slightly high blood pressure and trace protein in urine combined with massive elephant feet Sad
Definitely don't want to end up confined to a bed for the next 6 weeks!!
My ergobaby carrier turned up today. Looks like a manly carrier, lots of straps Smile

mrsb87 · 24/07/2014 17:43

I was a bit naughty and had cured meats a few weeks ago. I didn't get anything. I think it's very unlikely you'll get it. They only warn you of it as listeria can cause problems with baby. I don't think I've known anyone who has had listeria!

Only thing I've actively avoided is things like brie as I know if I start I won't be able to leave it alone!
Today I've had serious rage! People at work we we getting on my nerves and then several customers decided to to the whole "oh you must be hot in the condition" comments along with the old "not long now!" Chestnut. Yes actually, nearly 10 weeks but thanks for the unnecessary comment!! I can normally ignore those comments but it was like waving a red flag in front of my face today!

HopefulHamster · 24/07/2014 18:18

Thanks all, doc eventually rang me back and said levels were fairly borderline but worth taking iron tabs and has put them on prescription for me.

Sounds tough Buggerlugs, if it helps I had IVF too and one day had some hummus that after two mouthful was clearly off. I made myself throw up and was convinced I would have listeria.

Haven't had it yet! (haven't had any more hummus though!)

Kirstipops · 24/07/2014 18:34

I'm using natal hypnotherapy Missus, this is my first my first baby so can't speak for it's effectiveness in a birthing situation yet but I've had quite a relaxed pregnancy so far and I'm sure it saw me through my driving theory test! :)

magichandles · 24/07/2014 19:35

I had listeria with DD1 - I was one of 9 maternal cases in England & Wales that year out of over 700,000 births. And the first case in 5 years at a major London hospital. Which is how rare it is. They also have no idea how I got it as I followed all the usual guidance and the micro-biologist who confirmed that was what I had had said that up to 20% of cases are just people who were carrying it naturally and because of lowered immunity during pregnancy it takes hold. I was also doubly immune-compromised at the time as I take a chemotherapy medication for my ulcerative colitis.

So it can happen, but it is also highly unlikely to. So much so, that my hospital don't even routinely test for listeria in infections, I only know this because by some weird coincidence my SIL is close friends with one of the microbiologists who were working on my case. So, while I would never say to anyone not to follow the guidelines as the consequences can be so serious, if you accidentally eat a bit of brie or have some out of date salad there is no need to beat yourself up about it.

bugs - same sort of thing as me and the dodgy salad the other day. And a couple of months back I also ate a month old egg and was so scared of it making me ill I made myself throw it up. Major attack of the menkul.

There is so much conflicting advice too - apparently goats cheese is ok if pasteurised and without the mouldy rind, and sometimes cured meats are also on the ok list. It's so confusing. Apparently smoked salmon is 'ok' nowadays and I just can't keep up!

fedupofrainydays · 24/07/2014 20:30

Ha ha I can identify with this for sure i'm DESPERATE to get back to hiking around the countryside instead of waddling along a flat street with stitch

I'm eating charcuterie, brie and goats cheese if pasteurised, sushi, even soft boiled eggs. Shhhhh! Am much more relaxed this time Blush

mrsb87 · 24/07/2014 20:52

I've had dippy eggs too. Seriously can't eat a hard boiled egg with soldiers!

ohthegoats · 24/07/2014 20:58

How much input/interest did/does your partner have in buying of stuff for the baby?

We had a conversation about the buggy choice (I had to drag him into Mothercare to try some out), but most other stuff has been loaned to us. He's really tight with money himself (unless it's power tools from ebay), and I'm in control of our joint account (which I wouldn't use for anything other than our agreed stuff), but I can personally afford the stuff I want, and I don't mind paying for it - not paying for anything else exciting these days. He shows absolutely no interest in it, and I almost feel awkward asking him for an opinion. I think that he thinks it's too early to sort this out, but I'm 31 weeks on Saturday, I just want to be semi prepared - it can all sit in a bag under the spare bed, but I just want to have it sorted. I've started buying things, but if he doesn't show interest it's all going to be my taste/choices.

Do you think the guys really care about what a baby is dressed in? Do they need to have as much involvement in this stuff? Most won't affect them (breast pumps etc) Somehow I imagine if you're same sex couple, then another woman might be interested too - but I might be stereotyping. Maybe being pregnant makes you baby mental, while no one else around you has the same feeling.

ohthegoats · 24/07/2014 20:59

Runny poached eggs here, medium rare meat too. I'm already a bad mother!!

ExcitedCJ · 24/07/2014 21:04

Need to catch up after a very long day at work, just a quick post re my boob size & then I will comply with social convention & read back & join the conversation properly.
My boobs have gone from 32DD to 34H I'm going to topple over if this continues!

ExcitedCJ · 24/07/2014 21:06

I just checked and Pamela Anderson has 34E's my boobs are 3 cup sizes bigger than Pammy!!!!!

fedupofrainydays · 24/07/2014 21:08

I wasn't as paranoid re what I ate with my ds. It's definately since my miscarriages I've just got crazy. It's basically just really not wanting to risk anything that could possibly ruin this chance of a successful pregnancy and my healthy take home baby. Obsessed by it to be honest and analyse everything.

Before miscarriage I was chilled out and rational person. Not at all now when it comes to anything ttc or pregnancy!

binkybunny · 24/07/2014 21:30

goats I'm lucky that DH is as excited as me so wants to be involved in everything but the downside is I can't fob him off with the cost of anything especially as everything comes out of our joint account. If you're happy making the purchases yourself I'd just go for it. I'm sure he'll get involved once she/he arrives!

fedupofrainydays · 24/07/2014 21:34

My experience is that my husband didn't really connect with the whole baby thing until ds was born. So all the decisions re kids stuff was down to me. He just didn't have an opinion on it as just genuinely didn't know - total minefield for him! (And me!). Now I typically short list and give him two options to help me choose from. Or I just decide!

cabster · 24/07/2014 21:44

yellow I'm really looking forward to adding some new BF locations to my portfolio!
