london I did have astrong boy feeling yes! as does everyone else in my family and all my friends and the lady on the checkout in sainsburys... I could go onGrin
goats the doctor I just spoke to said they would expect it to follow the line on the graph she also said that they do a lot of growing in the next few weeks (I'm 28 weeks) which is why women quite often feel huge all of a sudden. She said that baby's growth slows down at the very end too (around due date) so if you do go over due date there won't be that much size difference Hmm not sure if she was saying that to make me feel better! Grin

tak1ngchances · 21/07/2014 12:48

Just back from whooping cough vaccine. It was not sore but now my arm feels like there is a big bruise on it. Normal I suppose.
Am also v v tired and have taken to the couch. Have to drag myself into London later for meetings which finish at 7pm. Woe. Is. Me.

YellowWellies · 21/07/2014 13:11

Pregnant also bear in mind that growth scans are a very exact science - my pal who had a baby last month (who was mahoosive!) had growth scans as the docs were concerned baby was big. They said at every scan (including one the week he arrived) that he was off the scale and would be 11+ lb. He was born a few days late and was only 7lb 12. They prefer to overestimate just in case.

YellowWellies · 21/07/2014 13:11

Very INEXACT science FFS my brain!!!! Confused

Pregnantagain7 · 21/07/2014 13:36

yellow I know I'm trying not to get too hung up about it! I just can't understand the point of monitoring me then saying yep it's big but we're not going to do anything about it!

mum2kiss · 21/07/2014 14:09

Does seem a bit pointless To do a growth scan and then seemingly ignore the findings! I have a growth scan booked for 34 weeks...If they tell me.this baby is big they better not be telling me it's staying in there until it's good and ready to make an appearance!

Pregnantagain7 · 21/07/2014 14:19

mum2 sorry I've lost track is this your first? I got the impression they may have acted on the scan if it had been my first, she did ask how my last birth was and because I delivered vaginally with no intervention or stitches she was like oh I'm sure you will be fine Hmm I did say yes but there must be a point when my body won't be able to do it and I'm guessing that if this one is bigger than 10lb 8 (weight of ds)it's got to be getting close to that point!!
Anyway I suppose what will be will be:)

clops2000 · 21/07/2014 15:00

Hi everyone, just joining in - hope that's ok?!
I'm 29 weeks and just wondering if anyone else is finding things tough emotionally? I've been an emotional wreck for the past few weeks now and its not like me at all.
Currently studying for a masters full time so I have the luxury of working from home etc, but the challenge of needing to motivate myself and set my own routine which is getting tougher by the day! I only have my dissertation to go and its due mid september so i've finally given in to requesting an extension as there's no way i'll be finished in time.
Just can't work out if my emotions, lack of motivation and poor concentration are down to pregnancy or if i'm just subconsciously looking for an easy way out because I'm shattered!
How I'm feeling can change from one moment to the next, I'm mostly fine if I'm outdoors getting some fresh air, with other people etc but at other times it feels like a dark cloud has come over and I just feel really sad and weepy. This isn't like me at all, I don't usually even get pmt!
Sorry to bring the mood down, just would like to hear how other people are getting along...I expected this towards the end of the pregnancy but surely 26 weeks was too early to start feeling fed up?!

STIGZ · 21/07/2014 15:17

Hi clops welcome (",) just read your post & i could totally relate with what you described emotionally.

I will 27 weeks on thursday and for past couple of weeks i have been feeling the same... I have just moved house a couple of weeks ago& like you im struggling with motivation to get things done as i am so so drained... Also have 4 year old that i need to keep entertained through summer hols!! I feel like its an effort to even talk sometimes!!

I actually bought basch's rescue remedy which is safe to use during pregnancy to see if it would take the edge off my emotions... Feeling a bit better this week so dont know if they work or its just my hormones leveling out ??

Next time you see your midwife just mention how you are feeling and see what she suggests but i suspect its just a mix of pregnancy hormones, extreme tirdeness mixed with life in general ... Not a good combination(",) soz if i havnt been much help but just to let you know you are not alone xxx

clops2000 · 21/07/2014 15:22

Thanks stigz, I moved house a month or so ago too so know how you're feeling too - not sure I could have done it now so well done :)
I mentioned it to my midwife last week - well I burst into tears and then tried to explain why - always happens when someone asks how you are doesn't it!
Really nice to know i'm not alone, thanks x

mum2kiss · 21/07/2014 15:24

This is my second pregnant. First was 7lbs so if this one looks big they better do something about it lol!

Clops have you spoken to your midwife/gp about how you are feeling? I'm assuming this is your first baby?

fedupofrainydays · 21/07/2014 15:58

Just had my 28 wk mw check. All looking good. Taken bloods to check the usual but otherwise all ok. Heart beat was good and strong and ds' face was a real picture!! Although there was a tense moment when ds launched himself off the chair just as she was sticking the needle in me for bloods. Next apt is most definitely booked for when he's are nursery in sept! Asked about my weight gain and she said not to worry and didn't seem shocked when I said it was almost 2 stone. I am measuring a week ahead though at 29.

Welcome clops. I was really emotional in early pregnancy too and felt very low too. Same with my first pregnancy. Now I just always feel everything is on top of me - I've got so much to do and so little time. But if it gets bad / you feel dark a lot or feel you can't cope you should talk to your gp about it as pregnancy can cause havoc with hormones and make you feel pretty awful. If fresh air / getting out and about helps then I would try do that as soon as that dark cloud is looming over!

Captainmcgraw · 21/07/2014 16:01

Feeling very sorry for myself as have horrendous stomach bug. Pregnancy heartburn combined with it is not fun. My lovely DH has taken day off to look after me as he was worried! I know a a few others have had tummy bugs whilst pregnant and really empathise - can't believe just how weak it's made me, can hardly stand up. Urgh. Sorry, rant over.

fedupofrainydays · 21/07/2014 16:02

Poo. Just realised I forgot to ask about whooping cough jab and it wasn't mentioned by the MW. Assume that's one I need to sort out myself then Hmm

clops2000 · 21/07/2014 16:23

Hi, thanks for your messages, yes it's first baby so all new for me. Baby is also a boy and I saw someone had mentioned somewhere that boys can be harder (that's my excuse and i'm sticking with it!).
Feeling a little better after meeting with my supervisor this morning and breaking everything down into manageable chunks which seems to be what I need. Just nice to know that other people feel shattered, that everythings getting on top of you.
We're also doing hypnobirthing which is amazing and listening to the relaxation cd did bring me out of my gloominess last week so I need to remember to do that as much as poss too!
Thanks everyone, promise my future posts will include some happiness too :)

HopefulHamster · 21/07/2014 16:28

fedup - I was 29cm at 28 weeks as well. I also sorted out my own whooping cough jab for the same day.

Aircon is broken at work and my feet are all swollen :(. Bah!

Me23 · 21/07/2014 16:28

Induction of labour for a suspected large baby has been proven to have no medical benefits. It does not reduce the need for Cs instrumental delivery or perinatal morbidity. Therefore no benefit to you or your baby to offer it.

Growth scans are intended to pick up growth restricted babies, malfunctioning placenta, low or high amniotic fluid volumes or with diabetes making sure of all the above and also checking baby isn't becoming abnormally large macrosomic including the organs becoming too big.

magichandles · 21/07/2014 16:56

Clops - I'm pretty emotional at the moment, I have to be really careful where I read the news otherwise there is a good chance I'll start crying, and I find sometimes I'm just so tired I want to cry as well. I'm normally on a pretty even keel emotionally, so it's all a bit strange (but something I remember from my other pregnancies.

I'm finding that to get stuff done I really need to break it down into chunks and give myself a break often, but not too much of a break as then I find myself getting really lethargic and actually doing a small job makes me feel better, until I get tired again and have to sit down - it's a never ending circle!

ohthegoats · 21/07/2014 17:28

Yes, micro-jobs are the way forward - or at least, normal sized jobs broken down into micro-jobs. Plenty of sitting around required in between. I've just had two days of doing nothing other than swimming, yoga, reading, finding stuff for the house on the internet, eating properly and drinking loads... a lot of sitting around. I feel human again, and tomorrow I need to get back on with 'stuff'.. I'm making a list.

As well as googling stuff for the house though, I did some clothes window shopping. We're going to a festival this weekend, and can't wear any of my normal festival gear, so will look all frumpy and over-dressed. But looking at normal clothes reminded me that there is a chance I could be wearing stuff that I've actually chosen to my own taste (as opposed to had no choice, it's what's in the shops + leggings) in 12 weeks time. Put me in a right good mood.

Obviously I'll now not be able to fit into normal clothes until this time next year, but the tiny tiny chance is still there... 12 weeks...

Kirstipops · 21/07/2014 17:29

Just back from 30wk mw check, bp slightly up from last time but still normal and trace protein in my urine but not to worry (of course I will a bit though). The midwife also said to make an appointment with my gp for whooping cough vaccine and confirmed I wouldnt need to make the time up at work as it's classed as antenatal care, yay!
Welcome clops, high 5 to you doing your masters just now, my concentration span has been shot for weeks and only just managing to read for pleasure! Agree with others saying to keep getting out and about whenever you feel the dark cloud trying to take hold, also keeping your mw up to date. I've been doing natal hypnotherapy and I'm surprised how effective it is at relaxing me as well, glad hypnobirthing is doing the job for you :)
Captain hope you can kick the bug soon!

fedupofrainydays · 21/07/2014 19:33

Hope you feel better soon captain vom bugs are awful at the best of times, never mind when preg. You poor thing.

I wasn't back in normal clothes right away goats! Prob a good few months after. As I was bf I was quite limited in top halves as well - but as long as could lift up or pull to the side it was ok! I bought some things from h&m that I will dig out again, bigger than my normal size but nice enough to not feel like im still in maternity get up!

Missus2ndwife · 21/07/2014 19:37

Hi ladies - I'm due end Oct, can I join the conversation?

YellowWellies · 21/07/2014 19:39

I'm going to have to be dragged out of my maternity jeans. The elastic bump band is so cosy in the winter and fiddly flies are so impractical when toileting with a toddler on your knee and weak pelvic floor! But I am looking forward to more choice in other clothes - Boden just sent me their autumn season email and I got all excited! But loads of their stuff is utterly shit for BF.

ohthegoats · 21/07/2014 19:58

Noooooo yellow, I'll be in my normal clothes within a week don't burst my ridiculously optimistic bubble Wink
