Mimpim - I was reading up about pineapple and apparantly it is effective but you would have to eat more than 7 or 8 pineapples a day for it to have an effect. Its an enzyme in the pienapple that has something to do with it. So I've read.
I have been juicing them thinking that would work but apparantly juicing them gets rid of the enzyme..? So i just ended up with bad indigestion and stomach ache.

Hi all who are waiting ... Chamomile tea is a mild cramping agent, so that might work ... Introduced, and had quite a bit of, it the day before my waters broke. From "the other side," many aspects of life (bathroom visits) GREATLY improved. Plus - adorable baby actually visible! Take heart - not long now!!!
No signs for me except mucus plug, which looked exactly as described in earlier posts. Didn't mean anything to me, as labor can start anywhere from mere hours, to weeks, after it appears. Recall being as frustrated as y'all about it. Definitely a relief to have it over and done with.

Didn't leak or grow larger until milk came in 3 days after birth. Definitely leaking now, though.

Norms is the one having the C-section today; fingers crossed for her!

Hi

I am new to the board and am due on 23 Sept...how do I go about adding myself to the list of babies due?

As for the sex question - I can not help - I can count on one hand how often we have had sex over the past 9 months what with the sickness, aches, and sore perineum. However I am sure I have read that having sex especially late on can cause cramping, can't remember why but it is quite normal - sorry I'm not much use

mimpim · 12/09/2006 17:29

7 or 8 WHOLE Pineapples????
Thats mad!
I like pineapples but I don't think I could eat that many!
It is all just old wives tales anyway, isn't it. The baby will come when the baby is ready, I am not sure that I truly believe any of it really works. Though there is no harm in trying any of them anyway.
Maybe I am just saying that to myself cos I can't seem to do any of them.
Well, I could get DH's help but we are both kinda putting it off!

JayJep · 12/09/2006 18:14

thanks Mimpim for adding me on marls - your chamolile tea was it loose tea or infusion bags, were you overdue? or bang on time. Sorry for all the questions but I am keen to know more

clairemow · 12/09/2006 18:19

Myrtle, I had no warning whatsoever with DS1 that I was going to go into labour - just woke up in the middle of the night with contractions. With DS2, the show was at 8 am, and I'd had him by lunchtime, so not much warning then either!!

Mimpim, your stabbing pains could also be your ligaments - I got terrible pains in my side if I tried to get up too quickly. Or it could just be the baby pressing on your pelvis.

Poor you Calvemjoe - it could just go quickly, you never know...!!

liquidclocks · 12/09/2006 18:52

Hi all! Well you'll be pleased to know there was no queue jumping today! DH is due back in and hour or so and though I've had some strong BH's it's nothing more than usual so no is needed

but.... !!! I finished work! I'm now officially on maternity leave - yay!

Calvemjoe - really sorry to hear your feeling so down - perhaps you and DH could put your new bed to some use

Lets see if I feel the same way in two weeks but right now I don't care when this baby comes. I have some friends coming at the weekend and then mon/tues next week DH has booked some A/L so we can spend a few days together while DS is at nursery. Then I can get my fingers supple again doing my scrapbook, bit of painting, play with DS... lovely! And the longer it goes on for the better!

Coriander73 · 12/09/2006 19:54

Hello ladies

Had what could be last MW check today! Have consultant appt next Tuesday to discuss options if no baby by then (because of existing scar etc). MW took one look at me today as I walked in & said my, your big..well yes thanks for that. However as I lay down for the check she said gosh, it's really moved down & infact you have a lot of liquid so I'd say it's not a big baby at all! I did tell her that I carried the same weight etc with DD & everybody other than my MW at the time told me it was going to be huge...DD was 7lb 3oz! So, watch this space I suppose....have been a bit twingy...eating pineapple (but only one!) & just very tired - but think the heat we've had here today hasn't helped. Still, on we go...just wish my MIL & my Mother would stop ringing me...

Jayjep - Chamomile was infusion bags; made a quart and a half at a time, steeped the heck out of it (just left it 20+ minutes), and drank as iced tea. Had approx. 3-4 cups the day before water broke. I was actually trying to get the baby out more "naturally" before scheduled induction at 39 weeks, 5 days (high bp was cause to schedule early induction). The baby came at 39 weeks, 3 days. He was very cooperative - water broke at 5:40 am & he was out 13 hours later, so no red-eye labor.

Congratulations, LC - that's wonderful. Enjoy your time!!

puppy · 12/09/2006 20:44

Homemama I wet into labour without a show wth DS

oh calvemjoe you havn't failed at all you are just doing a really good job of keeping your lo snuggly in there have a [[[[[[[[[[[[hug]]]]]]]]]]]

apwd definatley NO sex here, can't even think about it with the spd, good on you for it.

Welcome sucklepop

Enjoy your maternity leave liquid, well done for working so long.

Thinking of you norms

I know what you mean about family ringing everyday, my dad is sending me the same text everydaytoo, he doesn't do phone calls sigh.

Well I woke up in the night at 1am and seriously though i was in labour, went back to sleep after an hour they stopped grrrrr. When stood for any period the pressure down below is almost unbearable at times, so hopefully thats a good sign. TMI I think I might have been loosing the mucus plug over the last few days its not bloody but like sorry - snot eughhh.

JayJep · 12/09/2006 21:27

Thanks for the tips marls. Well lets see if anyone else pops by the morning.

Hope you have a good night's sleep all.... maybe I can try and jump on DH ..lol!! (blush)

Lysettes · 12/09/2006 21:36

hey everyone long time no post.....sorry!!!!

I can't believe that I've missed so many babies being born, and we have such a good lot to go.

Am so proud of everyone on here that has had to cope with the hot summer and these last few hot days.

Small update on Jacob - we have had a hernia op (in his groin) which has now got infected, and he is being so brave coping with the pain all the way through. 2 month jabs given on Monday this week - a tip for everyone - try and time it so it's just before a feed (I know it sounds very unlikely!) so you can pop them on straight after and they don't seem to think about the pain so much. And he now weighs 6lb 13oz, from a starting weight of 3lb2 so we are really pleased with him!

Promise promise promise I will keep on here more often as do feel so guilty for neglecting everyone on here doing such a great cooking job!

lol

Lysettes · 12/09/2006 21:41

Also does anyone want to start a post natal thread for us to join as we get there? just a thought although we could wait till we've all popped

lol

1Baby1Bump · 12/09/2006 22:10

no time to start a new thread so will update you ladies only!
contractions started at 8pm on sat night and were 3 mins apart and a minute long right from the start.
got to the hospital at about 9pm by the time mum had arrived to look after ds. midwife who booked us in said i was 5/6cms dialated. i requested the pool room and was told they were chocka and it would be unsafe for me to use the pool.
into panic mode i went- ive only ever done it in the pool before!
i asked her to call my midwife who was on a night off and she said she would come up to deliver me! thank god! she instructed them to fill the pool.
she arrived and i got in the pool. my notes say the following:
duration: 1st stage- 04.36 hrs
2nd stage- 00.07
3rd stage- 00.06
Total: 04.49 hrs
very quick compared to last time!
1st degree tear, no stitches. it feels pretty good already, nothing like last time. i must say it did hurt an awful lot more than last time and i got a bit delerious saying i couldnt do it anymore. the midwife told me to push and i lost it!
'i am f'ing pushing' unfortunately slipped out this time.
ds2 appeared in his sealed amniotic sac (i told her my waters hadnt gone but she insisted they must have till she had to 'open' him!)
there was also a huge knot in his cord!
placenta literally fell out as i got on the bed (sorry, tmi, but it took an hour to appear last time)
then it all went pear shaped....
i was told i had postpartum haemorrage (sp?) and blood was being rushed in for a transfusion. doctors kept poking my bits about, trying to see 'up there' at how fast the blood was flowing.
dh was holding ds, in tears, as he couldnt get close enough to comfort me even if he hadnt been holding ds. docs asked him to hold ds to stop him crying so they could discuss action plan.
initially it would be a drip for four hours to try and contract uterus quickly. if that didnt work a d&c under a general (didnt understand that though as they had confirmed the placenta was whole) and failing that an emergency hysterectomy! i am 23 ffs!

anyhoo, had the drop done and stayed an extra night under obs and luckily the bleeding is just normal now, hence i can update!
i saw dh updated. 'nin-in' is nanny by the way, my mum. ds calls her 'nin-in'

i am all ok now and so is ds2.
ds1 is a bit mixed up but he is doing rather well really. i have a beautiful picture of his first reaction to ds2 and it brings a tear to my eye.
my milk is in already so thats a relief!
congrats to all who have also popped and to those yet to pop. i will obviously hang around as i would like to 'see' everyone pop.
pop, pop, pop!!

that's deffo it for us now. 2 boys, both born on sunday mornings in the same pool.

calvemjoe · 12/09/2006 22:44

Thanks everyone. Just feel tired and emotional and not really looking forward to 2 day induction and extra painful labour and being away from dh and ds. I've had one good nights sleep now we have a bed and I'm hoping that once I catch up on some sleep I'll be more positive x

Marls001 · 12/09/2006 23:03

Wow 1B1B what a story; so glad you are okay. Again, congratulations!!

Lysettes - Definitely up for post natal thread whenever!

DS1 had hernia operation as well, at approx. 6 months. So sorry Jacob's has gotten infected and you're having to give him shots, etc. That is IMHO so hard. It was hard enough seeing DS1 getting wheeled into operating room; can't imagine that having to go on and on. I hope he is fully recovered soon.

1Baby1Bump · 13/09/2006 07:25

i didnt realise i'd typed that much till i hit 'post'!!

it was my 5th attempt to get it posted so i just went for it!
he is constantly connected to my boob!

compo · 13/09/2006 08:22

Morning everyone. Really good to hear from you Lysettes - was wondering how Jacob was doing.
1B1B - wow amazing birth story, so glad you're home and feeling better.
Calvenjoe - hopefully your good night's sleep has helped. Don't worry, you've done a great job looking after lo for 9 months.
Well I'm 40+1 today - had a couple of BH in the night but nothing hopeful. Ds woke up at 5.30am this morning so feel exhausted already today!!

Flumpybumpy · 13/09/2006 08:23

Congrats 1B1B

What did you call him??

mabel1973 · 13/09/2006 08:26

hi all.
still here
going to call my mw today and see if she can do my 2nd sweep before the weekend.

compo · 13/09/2006 08:27

aw Mabel Fingers crossed you get to see the midwife. Did your sweep hurt? Someone at M&T gave me a horro story of sweeps yesterday that's made me a bit scared!!

mabel1973 · 13/09/2006 09:44

Compo - no don't worry. I didn't find it any more uncomfortable than a smear. I had 2 with DS as well and same thing, they really weren't that bad. Can't believe someone is telling you horror stories about sweeps - mean person!

homemama · 13/09/2006 10:12

Fingers crossed for you, Mabel. Have you tried a long, brisk walk? I'm sure doing that regularly was what worked for me last time. Especially walking down an incline. You should really feel baby against your cervix then. Walking down stairs is also good. Hope you get to see the mw.

Compo, my sweep last time didn't hurt at all. Even less than a smear test. And it worked within a couple of hours!

Hope Norms has her happy, healthy DS2 by now!

mabel1973 · 13/09/2006 10:25

Good news - spoken to midwife this morning and she is bringing my 2nd sweep forward to tommmrow - thank goodness. just fingers crossed it works.
I feel like if I wait til monday i might loose momentum - if that makes sense?
Homemama - yes - i have tried walking, although I am a bit scared to go out on my own for a walk in case anything happens.
It is playgroup this afternoon - not sure if I can face it though. Partly because of having to chase round after DS for 2 hours and partly because I can't face all the ' haven't you had it yet' comments!
