Hey Mabel, let's hope it does the trick. It's too hot and sticky to be carrying an overdue baby around.

Interesting all these early signs everyone is getting: I had a 'dry' birth with DS1, no show until 14 hours into labour and waters were broken for me in hospital after about 19 hours. Fortunately he came on his due date so I didn't spend very long worrying about the lack of early labour signs. If I get any this time I'll probably start running around assuming I'm going into labour imminently - it helps to know it doesn't have to be the case.

Hey Liquid, have you checked out the October ante-natal group yet? I haven't, although I should do, since I probably have a strong chance of joining them. Will try not to queue jump, at any rate!

Apwd, I get a minor version of what you describe too: a strong orgasm makes my bump rock hard and quite painful. Think of it as training

1Baby1Bump · 13/09/2006 11:28

flumpy- his name is Noah Benjamin

homemama · 13/09/2006 11:57

Awe Mabel, you sound quite down. Sorry if my suggestion sounded condecending, I didn't mean it that way. It's much harder second time around, I think. Last time I dragged DH out for 1hours walking every night from 38wks but of course these things aren't possible with a little one asleep upstairs and I may as well be sitting down as walking at DS's pace during the day.
I'm glad your mw has brought your sweep forward. I really hope it works for you. x

mabel1973 · 13/09/2006 12:16

Homemama - no don't be silly! any advice or suggestion is more than welcome at this stage!
I might take DS up to the park this afternoon, it's about a 10 or 15 minute walk - so I should be ok on my own.

coffeeandcake · 13/09/2006 12:20

congratulations, B1B1! What a frigtening experience afterwards, though.

fingers crssed for the second sweep, mabel1973.

coffeeandcake · 13/09/2006 12:22

famous last words, mabel! that'll bring labour on!

coffeeandcake · 13/09/2006 12:34

calvemjoe - really sorry to hear that you are feeling blue. DON'T feel a failure - you are doing fantastically well (LO is obviously too happy in there to want to come out!)
Incidentally, mw told me the same about my cervix, but managed to 'pull' it forward! would it be worth ringing your mw to see if that would be appropriate in your case? i know noyhing about these things, but making a call may make you feel as if you are doing something positive.
best wishes!

mimpim · 13/09/2006 12:36

Hello all
I was wondering, did someone say that you can get pains after... you know with DH
We finally put our fears aside last night, but I was woken every few hours with pains straight across my hips and a couple of stabs when I got up to use the loo. After using the loo I was able to sleep again, the pains was still there but bearable.
Was this just cos of the activity or can I get excited? Or was it just BH's?
Nothing doing today though.

Well done 1B1B, I watched someting similar on the TV the other day, it looked really scary cos the bleeding was not stopping. They managed hers in the end too, but it really frightened her. Hope you are doing well and that having your LO makes it all worth while anyway. Poor DH not able to do a thing, I think my DH will really syruggle with that.

pol26 · 13/09/2006 14:43

Well done to everyone who has had their babies!!! Sorry but slep deprivation has made me forget all your names as I haven't been on for so long...! Hoping everyone isn't too sore and their babes are being good little ones and letting mummy get lots of sleep! And hoping those mummies who haven't popped are doing ok, I can honestly say i'm not one bit envious of you, I know how fed up I felt when preg at the end and I was 2 weeks early.

Our internet connection has gone haywire and also sooo much work here, forgot how much washing and stuff to do a newborn generates and trying hard to spend every free moment with DD so we minimise jealousy. Also had visitors everyday GRRRR and some times three 'sittings' in a day... Have been a super b and not let anyone hold DS unless he is awake or due a feed as it's me and DD and him today as DP has gone back to work! Also the mw isn't coming until Monday (although what do I expect with previous experience)...

So he's here and so good (touch wood) and much more settled than DD was, although this time i'm more confident in what i'm doing so that could explain it... Been out twice and managed each time not to panic or have any mishaps...

Sent a huge card and flowers to mw who delievered him today as I was pretty rude and horrid to her when I was in labour. Still feeling bad about me shouting at her.

Hope everyones well... trying to get pics of my two children on here for you to see (sounds weird saying two children!)

Flumpybumpy · 13/09/2006 14:55

Noah is on our boys names list, so good choice

redz · 13/09/2006 15:24

Hi All,
Just to moan really, no signs of this lo making an appearance and due on monday. No twinges no nothing. Getting fed up of staying in dp doesnt really want me going out without someone and as he and all my friends at work havent got anyone.
Im so bored theres only so much cleaning and organising you can do. Cant beleieve how down you can feel in the last few weeks.

But to all of you who have had your little ones congratulations x

Flumpybumpy · 13/09/2006 15:31

redz, know exactly how you feel. I went through 'nesting' a few eeks ago and there is only so many times my kitchen cupboards can be emptied and cleaned. My house is spotless, my wardrobe sorted out, DD's toys re-organised. There really is nothing left to do (hence, why I spend my days on MN ).

Getting well and truly fed-up, feel heavy and tired and just want to feel like me again. I had forgotton how the last few weeks feel. I so want to meet this LO so trying to send positive 'don't you think it's time you came out now' vibes to my bump but nothing happening yet.

I hope the time goes quickly for you redz, I know we will be busy with nappies and feeding and no sleep soon enough!!

redz · 13/09/2006 16:28

Thanks Flumpybumpy,
To tell the truth bring on the sleepless nights and nappy changing I need to do something!
Well I say that now
I think its cos I really thought this baby wouldve been here around 37 weeks so this is unexpected. My mums fault really she fed my brain with the notion that women in my family dont carry past 37 weeks so I just assumed I'd have mine early. I have a horrible feeling that an induction may be on the cards!

apwd · 13/09/2006 16:55

Hi redz, I have had exactly the same thing from my mum. All the way through she has told me I won't go to term - I'll have it early etc. Thing is I'm even more stupid for listening to her! How the hec does she know when its coming!!??

Try Oil of Evening Primrose - its supposed to help ripen the cervix. dont know if it does but its worth a try. anyone else had it?

Sukiepop · 13/09/2006 17:15

Congrats to 1Baby1bump - glad you are well after the 'eventful' birth of Noah.
Thanks also to all for making me feel welcome to the board - its a great way of putting the time in. Have been on maternity leave just over a week and my Mum, bless her, is cracking me up - she is full of wonderful intentions but its like her nesting instinct has gone into overdrive and she can't stop coming to my house and cleaning - I know I should be grateful, but I really want my own space at the moment. My MW also made the biggest mistake by telling me 2 weeks ago that the birth would be imminent (due date not til 23 Sept)- since then family and friends are phoning constantly for updates Aaargh - I wish I had one of those old phones you could just leave off the hook. Anyway don't want to rant on - hormones gone mad! Good luck to everyone and I am looking forward to reading all your birth stories over the next while x

mimpim · 13/09/2006 18:34

I thought I was doing ok with the waiting game but I keep finding myself getting very narky at DH.
He phoned me earlier to ask what we were going to have for dinner, and I thought it was unreasonable as I was not in the house and he had been for over an hour! Why couldn't he have prepared something for me coming home instead of sitting waiting, then calling me to ask!
I was in the car at the time and could not hear him clearly so I hung off abruptly, moaning and whining to the empty car about my lazy lum of a husband and fizzed all the way home.

Turns out he was asking what I wanted as he knew I was out and hadn't prepared anything cos I was visiting a friend and he knows what I am like when I get together with her, so he was waiting for contact before he did anything that might have gone to waste.
Oops!
Perhaps I am not doing quite as well as I thought.
Due on Sunday and, like you redz, no twinges or anything to make me think that Anything might be happening soon at all!
grr
Sorry, lots of moaning today!!

mabel1973 · 13/09/2006 19:19

well nothing happening here either.
I am actually looking forward to my sweep tommorow! however I have convinced myself that, as with DS, the 2nd sweep will work and I'll be in hospital this time tommorow - I just hope I'm not sorely disappointed.
I'll let you know after she's been tommorow.
At least all us overdue / imminent ladies can have a good old moan together!

Marls001 · 13/09/2006 19:33

Okay; whatever happened to that British "stiff upper lip"? ? ( Sorry; sorry; sorry; couldn't help that. )

Redz - for what you must be feeling. Felt that way after DS1 arrived (sleep deprivation and trying to BF).

Sorry to hear of all the aches & hormones right now.
Relishing the little things these days, like being able to choose to use the restroom immediately - or not!!

Visited pediatrician today for DS2 1-week appointment - he said hormones could still cause "baby blues" up to 2 months afterward.
But have felt so protected this time around by Mom and DH, doubt it will happen again. Everything is just so, so much better.

DS2 has gained 5 oz & is now 8 pounds! Also has grown 1 cm! Everything looks great with him, Dr. says.

Had a chance to weigh myself ... have lost 15 pounds since the birth. 25 to go ...

liquidclocks · 13/09/2006 19:46

OK, might have said I don't mind when baby comes BUT - I DO want to stop detting that whole pressure cutting off nerve supply under my ribs feeling!

Both DH and DS have man-flu so have had a horrendous day. Tried to cheer myself up by going to the craft shop but DS just cried the whole time so I had to leave as it's only small and I'm sure I was putting other customers off! Got some stuff to make my dad a nice birthday card and some things for baby gift thank you cards too though so it wan't a completely wasted trip.

Sorry for those of you feeling miserable that LO's are still in there - At least the one thing we can be sure of is that they will come out eventually!

Mimpim - your poor DH! But then, he's not the one walking around with haywire hormones and what feels like an elephant strapped to his tummy is he - I'm sure he'll forgive you! In answer to your post about sex - when your cervix is 'ripening' the hormones in semen can stimulate you further so it's quite normal to get some after-pains, If you can cope with them don't worry about it as it's all helping to make you nearer to giving birth and it's definitely not damaging to baby.

Nice to hear from Lysettes and Pol and al those of you 'beyond'! Hope we're going to have a post-natal thead!

Marls what do you folks from the USA like to be called then if not 'american'? (and I suppose I'd better not mention our perceived stereotypes of your fellow countrymen? )

clairemow · 13/09/2006 19:53

Lysettes, how great to hear from you, and to hear that Jacob's doing so well. Congratulations!

1B1B, well done on baby Noah's birth - it sounds like you were really put through the mill. I hope you're feeling ok now, and your iron levels are ok after all that blood loss. Take care and rest up lots...

Marls, the British stiff upper lip is all a myth! I have been a bit tearful and arsey today, just tired after getting up in the night for an hour at a time... even though Fraser is really good, it's still knackering! Although also lovely, that really quiet time in the dark in the middle of the night...

Mabel good luck tomorrow with the sweep. Fingers crossed..

mimpim · 13/09/2006 21:09

Oh Lordy, Iron Levels!!
My midwife gave me grave warnings about mine the other day. I thought I was out of breath cos of Baby on my lungs but it is my low Iron Levels apparently. She tells me I need to get them up or I may not have enough energy to get me through labour and I may lose more blood.
Scary thoughts!
So I have been taking the pills nightly and a suppliment at least once a day, twice if I remember.
But I am still feeling breathless. I fear I am not doing enough and I won't have enough puff to get this baby out!

compo · 13/09/2006 21:12

Evening everyone. Sounds like you guys with your lo's here already are doing a fantastic job. Mabel - great news about your sweep tomorrow.
Can someone enlighten me about these cervical plugs? I've had lots of goey discharge today and a bit with some blood in it - does this mean that I could go into labour soon? I'm 1 day overdue today. Have had a few pains but nothing much. My mum is here until Friday and then going home for the weekend and the in-laws come on Monday. Don't kow whether i should be asking mum to stay until in-laws get here!!

pol26 · 13/09/2006 21:19

Well done on that baby 1b1b!!! I love the name Noah but my DP wouldn't have it at all, Still Ben is definately a Ben, if that makes sense.

Claire- been teary today too- think because it was first day with the two of them on my own... Have still not managed to get him to latch on and mw unhelpful, said there was no point her showing me, it is just perseverance. And she is not coming until Monday either. So I have been expressing two ounces twice a day and giving him mixed feeds - anything is better than nothing, I think but i'm so indecisive. And we have had to change teats as they are just too fast flowing that he is getting so windy. Touch wood that tonight is better and he isn't up and down with wind for two.5 hours.

Hope all you pregnant ladies, seems an eternity since I was preg, are all ok and managing to hang in there. Have a birthing ball if anyone wants it???

pol26 · 13/09/2006 21:20

Compo sounds like your baby may be on its way- i'm so excited for you!!! Ask your nmum to stay on and be with you- maybe your baby will be here in the next few days!

appyday · 13/09/2006 22:38
