Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi all
Freddie Robert was born yesterday at 11.05am weighing a hefty 10lb!
Had a bit of nightmare - couldn't raise the in-laws to take DS so had to drive to my mums to drop him off, my hospital was FULL so had to drive to the other one across the city, managed to do four hours in the pool, but due to his size and also the fact that he turned out to be back to back, I just couldn't do it, so they gave me a very mild epidural(not a spinal block as such ), so I still felt the head crowning and the 'ring of fire' - ooooo!
Anyway managed to get him out with a bit of a tear, had to have some stitches, but they let me home last night - thank goodness as we were both fit and healthy
He is absolutely gorgeous and HUGE! slept last night from 10pm - 5.30am this morning!!! I am sure that is a one off though and I will soon discover reality!
Congrats to everyone else who's popped as well XXX

I think I may have had a show.
Stingy and jelly like (just like the info you found said, puppy) but not clear, it was sort of greeny yellowy with the tiniest bit of red. Looked like normal discharge 'cept stringy and the blood. sorry if TMI but I am sort of trying to convince myself it is not a show! Getting nervous now and I was Sooo sure I would be late! My due date is tommorrow.
Also, my tummy keeps getting hard, has done for a couple of days now, but no pains.
Oh my god! I am frightened!!

What do you guys think? Am I on my way??

clairemow · 16/09/2006 14:45

Congratulations and welome to Elizabeth and Freddie!

Mimpim, sounds like a show me dear! Hardenings sound promising too - could still be BH though. Maybe you'll have LO on your due date - about the only one of us!!

Marls001 · 16/09/2006 14:49

Congratulation to Mabel & Homemama!!

Homemama - So glad you didn't tear!!

Mabel; wow!! What a big boy!

I just KNOW Liquid is having hers right now too ... hasn't been on for a while.

liquidclocks · 16/09/2006 15:01

...sorry to disappoint Marls

Congratulations Mabel and Homemama though, this is so exciting, every time I log on there's a new baby!

I'm afraid the lack of posts from me is simply that I can't bear to sit in front of the computer for more than 5 mins and my friend forgot to fetch her ball around to sit on - hopefully this week. I'm definitely in the stop/start club, somethings happening but just not very fast, which is fine as I'm still just 38 wks and DH and I have a breakfast date at our fave pre-baby cafe on Monday after we take DS to nursery - I'm looking forward to good coffee and a Noam Chomsky book I've been trying to feel intelligent enough to read for ages - lovely! Meanwhile, the garden is getting some much needed TLC today.

Cori - hope things are going well after your gush!
Cal - putting in words with the powers that be for you, really hope it goes naturally for you.
Mimpim - hope it happens when you want it too, you sound about the same as I feel save plenty of mine are painful, but then I'm on no.2!

Gotta go, hip is killing me!

Flumpybumpy · 16/09/2006 15:34

Here am I on D Day and still nothing

Had sweep yesterday, OMG didn't know it was going to hurt that much

How long from sweep to contractions?? Anyone know??

Been having on and off contractions for two days so they must just be painful BH's also LO is back to back so that's not helping.

So chuffed for all of you that have had your LO's can't wait to join you!!

FB x

mimpim · 16/09/2006 16:07

I thought sweeps were meant to be no more painful than a smear??
I am umming and ahing about asking for one when I see my consultant to Tuesday (if nothing has happened by that point) But I was a little frightened cos the midwives said that the male consultants can be a little heavy handed.
But then a frind told me that the midwives can be so gentle that it doesn't work so well?

Don't know what to think now!!
oh well, hopefully that was my show earlier and I won't have to think about it.
my heart goes out to you though FB.

liquidclocks · 16/09/2006 16:49

Whether or not a sweep is painful seems to depend on how ripe your cervix is anyway and the person doing it. I have read that a good sweep and stretch should last about 10 minutes - my (ineffective) one last time with DS lasted about 30 secs! TBH though - I'd put up with a 10 minutes one in pain if it saved me having to have an induction, but that's just me!

Garden looks like it's had a manicure now! Off to do the front...

...funny how I can do gardening but not sit in a dining chair - weird!

Marls001 · 16/09/2006 17:01

Flumpy - So sorry the sweep hurt ... mine didn't hurt very much at all ... Male Dr. did it, but he must have been gentle.
Dr. said "most women go into labor anywhere between a few and 72 hours" after a sweep.

Liquid - Oh, well.
At least you've got some more leisure time.
I wanted much more than brain candy to read just before LO came as well! (Thoreau's Walden & collection by Dorothy Parker. )
Sorry to hear it's so painful to sit!!

calvemjoe · 16/09/2006 18:43

Homemama, congrats on Elizabeth, that's our girls name so in the next few days there should be 2 Elizabeths born in sept. Also, congrats Mabel on the birth of Freddie.

Cori, I hope all is going well for you and that you've had a quick and painless birth.

Well, there is no other way to describe it, I am terrified about tomorrow, just keep on bursting into tears. I'm wondering if I haven't gone into labour cause I'm so scared something is going to happen to lo like it nearly did with ds. I suppose she's got to come out one way or another!

puppy · 16/09/2006 19:15

Congratulations Homemama

Looks like it will be 3 elizabeths lol thats our girl name too Calvemjoe. Elizabeth anne after my grandmother.

Hope all goes well for you tomorrow calvemjoe

puppy · 16/09/2006 19:18

oops sorry mabel

Congratulations to you too, what a big boy

liquidclocks · 16/09/2006 20:38

Cal - please don't feel scared, it will all be fine and tomorrow or VERY soon after you'll have your gorgeous little person in your arms!

I would now like to un-jinx myself. After telling you all that I have a breakfast date with DH on monday I have been having very regular 'borderline painful' (have to stop what I'm doing but can still talk) contractions each lasting about a minute. I'm hoping haing told you all this that they will go away because they didn't when I had a bath which I thought would be a sure fire way of getting rid! There done it, fingers crossed! (I want my croissant!!!)

calvemjoe · 16/09/2006 20:41

I just txt dh and told him how scared I was, he sent back 'I don't know what to say to make you feel better, but I'll be there with you throughout it all.' He made me cry [goddamn hormones emoticon]

calvemjoe · 16/09/2006 20:43

And good luck liquid, you know that an event you really want to make is a sure fire way of bringing on labour

liquidclocks · 16/09/2006 20:55

Aww! Cal that's lovely, what a great bloke you have there!

And I would like to make it clear that I really really really do want my croissant and coffee and time with DH! (he's just brought me a 'starter' of morecambe bay potted shrimps on taost for tea - yum yum yum!) and I genuinely don't mind when the baby comes but please not before tuesday evening!

calvemjoe · 16/09/2006 21:12

Liquid, you're either having a baby this weekend or you'll go overdue and curse yourself for saying 'not before...'

liquidclocks · 16/09/2006 21:15

Perhaps! But as long as I can have an epidural I don't mind an induction!

Good luck for tomorrow, I won't say don't worry because I know it's hard not to but you'll be fine and LO will be gorgeous, hope to hear good news from you soon!

Now must get off this chair and go lounge on the sofa!

Gizmo · 16/09/2006 21:57

Happy lounging Liquid. And good luck for tomorrow Calvinmjoe - just think how nice it will be to add your name to the list.

So good to hear you've finally got your baby Mabel. I got a bit confused earlier (preghead emoticon) when reading list of arrivals and started out thinking dates might be weights, but now have grasped the basics of how to date things.

Marls, are you still reading the Dorothy Parker? I used to love her poetry and short stories at university, but haven't opened my collection for many years now. Like you, I have a craving for some intellectual grist before baby arrives and steals my brains, so I'm working my way through Bill Bryson's pop science book (although the name temporarily escapes me) and the Life of Pi, by Yan Martel. They don't combine terribly well with The Baby Whisperer and Hypnobirthing handbook though: I should try to stick to one at a time.

Myrtle1 · 16/09/2006 22:33

I loved the Life of Pi, its a great book. I've been borrowing loads of books from friends. I'm currently on Cider with Rosie and then have about 8 of the Ladies Detective Agency books to get through!
Liquid - hope you enjoyed your potted shrimps!
Good luck for tomorrow Calvemjoe.

mabel1973 · 17/09/2006 09:17

Hi guys - quick message 'from the other side'
Freddie is being a dream - seems so much easier than DS, he is feeding well, in fact he latched on instantly after the birth!
He slept well again last night and is settling really easily. I hope it's not that he is just still knackered from the birth!!!
I will try and get some pics up on yahoo in the next couple of days. XXX
Good luck to all who are still waiting

liquidclocks · 17/09/2006 11:42

Mabel - that's fantastic news - I hope he continues to be a dream! Hows DS1 managing?

I loved the life of pi too. Last year though my favourite book was "Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah" by Richard Bach - it was short enough to read during one of DS's nap times but it had me thinking about it for months! DH and I read aloud to eachother before bed (how cheesy!) and I love it though I often fall asleep now to the velvety tones of his voice... or is it the overwhelming fatigue of caring for a toddler?

The un-jinxing worked btw - no more contractions! Maybe I'll get my breakfast out after all!

Gizmo - how's the house going? Was thinking yesterday about what you're doing, DH and I were renovating our first place when DS came along, we'd just got the carpets down a week before he arrived (thay had to be taken up and replaced 4 weeks later because the delivery guys had broken the back of it and it looked like the sea!) and The day before he came I painted the bathroom! Hope you're managing ok.

Hope all goes well for Calvemjoe today and also I see it's puppy's and mimpim's due dates - good luck!

clairemow · 17/09/2006 12:07

I loved life of pi as well. It really made me think, esp the ending... Funny you say about you and DH reading to eachother Liquid - I got DH to read Harry Potter to me when I was in the delivery suite!! We only managed one paragraph... Something about a magic teapot from what I recall...

redz · 17/09/2006 14:00

Hi all,
Congrats to all of you that have had your little ones!

I have been getting very painful bearing down for the past hour or so. I keep feeling like the need to go wee but everytime I attempt to do so nothing happens.
Can barely walk, however no show and definately no contractions.
I am due tommorow and wondering if anyone has had or had the same symptoms before labour? I've got a feeling it may just be the baby engaging even more but Im holding on to the hope it may be signs of early labour? I wish!.

clairemow · 17/09/2006 15:30

Poor you Redz, does sound like the baby is engaging down and sitting on your bladder, so it feels full, but isn't. Like carrying a bowling ball round between your legs.. Hope it isn't long...
