hi Pol, your midwife sounds spectacularly and appallingly unhelpful. Have you tried phoning the LaLeche League (helpline is 0845 1202198 - they have mothers who've breast fed available to talk to anyone having any problems - and here's a link to their help page - \link{http://www.laleche.org.uk/pages/about/contact.htm\La Leche League) for some help with the feeding? Poor you. Is it very painful?

Re expressing early, I've started expressing already, and it doesn't seem to be making any difference. I know they get mums of prem babies to express to feed, but definitely keep trying to get your lo to latch on. Good luck.

Could you also ask to see another midwife? Or ask if there are any local breastfeeding support groups?

clairemow · 14/09/2006 17:04

Ok, I really am shit at this linking thing. Trying again Pol -

Hi
Just a wee query. I have had a bit of staining today - light brown - its not jelly like so I'm not sure if its a show or what it is...I have been feeling pre-menstrual most of the day, but I haven't been feeling so bad that I'd think this was the start of something. Any ideas?

nickiey · 14/09/2006 17:35

Thought my waters had gone yesterday but rather shamfully it was just a bit f an infection-i felt like such a wally!
2 weeks exactly today, and i cant wait!

redz · 14/09/2006 17:44

Hi Sukiepop,
Sounds like a show to me. Was just talking to my friend this morning about when she had her first dd and she had exactly the same, contractions started around 6hrs later. But then im not sure what the exact time scale is from when you have a show to when contractions can start.
Either way good luck.
Is is possible that you will be another person due after me and lo coming early!

clairemow · 14/09/2006 18:14

sukiepop, it doesn't sound like fresh blood loss, which they do worry about and would want to see you for - could be a small show....

Marls001 · 14/09/2006 18:55

Flumpy; I'm with you - 11 days out & still drinking chamomile & RLT, just because. I prefer it iced.

Okay Cori & all, re: "American" - I'll just stop my paranoid nonsense now, then!

Marmite ... (shudder) ...
Britons do speak well; that's no stereotype. Was excited to find MN because I hear "where's it at?" quite enough in real life.

Cori - Pitocin is artificial oxytocin - called "Syntocin" I think in UK? Given to speed up labor & does gets the job done, but makes contractions much stronger/more painful.

LC, so glad you're enjoying your time off, doing crafts, etc.!

Visting other thread now ...

apwd · 14/09/2006 20:54

Lovely news Appyday. Congratulations!
Liquid - thats very organised making those christmas cards. I think I need a focus like that to take my mind off waiting for bump to arrive! Have been on mat leave since 31 weeks so am feeling rested but bored. i admire you for working till now.

SophieB - dont worry about it not being engaged. My DS never engaged until labour started and I went into labour on due date and had him day after. they can do allsorts in a week!

Have got stretch and sweep on monday which is couple of days before my due date. not under any illusions though. anyone had one done before due date? MW says because already had a DS should be more likely to work?

Any ideas what I can take for my friend in hosp? she has placenta previa and has been in for a couple of weeks already and they have now told her she has to stay in until they section her or she has another bleed. she is 32 weeks and she is fed up bless her. any ideas would be appreciated.

clairemow · 14/09/2006 21:51

Oh Appyday, I missed your post about the baby!! And what a lovely name.

Marls, you should come to Bristol, here people say "where's that to?" when they mean "where is that" e.g. "my glass of wine, where's that to?". And people add an extra "l" onto words e.g. "what a good ideal", instead of "what a good idea". Classic.

Apwd - how boring for your friend - can she watch DVDs? Guess she's already bored to tears with magazines...

liquidclocks · 14/09/2006 22:01

Apwd- You could find out what kind of books she likes then post a thread in the book club section? I'm a bit of a tolkein fan and I read the northern lights trilogy by philip pullman when I was stuck at home waiting for DS and that was good (and long!). Trying to get around to reading the screwtape letters this time but with DS already here it's not quite so easy! Apart from that just as many visits as you can!

Btw, it was stupidity rather than anything else that kept me working so long so don't feel bad

congrats compo!
how exciting! but so sorry for your dh.

hope everyone else is doing ok.
hang in there ladies.
if its any consolation for those who are still waiting, now ds2 is here i am wracked with guilt for ds1 who is very disgruntled and throwing tantrums all over the shop.
i have sore nipples, am exhausted, am teary and am fighting off well meaning but annoying visitors with all their annoying crappy advice AGAIN!
enjoy it while you can.....
i'm pleased he is here though!
dh is being a gem and keeping me sane and building a fantastic relationship with ds1.

tassis · 15/09/2006 12:42

Congratulations Tassis...lovely name

BTW...(& sorry if tmi) but I've just gone to the loo & when I wiped I noticed that I had a bit of clear jelly like stuff in my knickers....I'm a right in thinking this could be a bit of a show or a sign that the cervix is softening??? With DD the show I had was bloody no mistake whereas this was just clear...any advice welcome!

puppy · 15/09/2006 13:38

Congratulations tassis,

ooo coriander thats sounds like it could be a show, i am not certain but I don't think shows have to have blood in them, i'll google for you. fingers crossed for you.

Not sure but I think something might be happening for me too, having a few pains but with no rhythm over the last hour and the feeling of wanting to goto the toilet. Prob braxton hicks lol

puppy · 15/09/2006 13:44

What does the mucous plug look like?
Some women describe the mucous plug as looking more like the mucous in your nose. It may look like a thick glob of stringy mucous, thicker than what you would see with normal vaginal secretions. If you are close to going into labor you may see pink, brown, or red blood around the edges of the mucous plug. This is called the ?bloody show?.
