Claire - Say it isn't so!! Actually think lack of sleep is powerful enough to break anyone down - it's my own personal weakness. Kind of dreading Mom/MIL leaving ...
Still and quiet moments are certainly the nice side of it.

Liquid ? LOL ? loud, obnoxious ? optimistic?
I swear for every cowboy-hat-wearing US tourist loudly laughing at his own off-color jokes there?s another one of us (same restaurant) with heads in hands moaning ?Why? Why? Why???

No one here seems to mind being called "American" ? I really don?t even; we call ourselves that all the time - except I'm supersensitive on MN because (- and perhaps it's just me being overly concerned, but -) doesn't that word come across as a bit egotistical to everyone else since literally "American" could be Canadian, Panamanian or Uruguayan? Perhaps I'm making too much of it! If so then have been stupid about that term for quite a while! (Described myself "estadounidense" in Spain as a teen; "americana" would've been easier to say! )

Warmest congratulations to Appyday!!

calvemjoe · 14/09/2006 08:35

Congrats Appyday, but I do believe that's called queue jumping

Still here and 9 days overdue with no signs of labour. Does anyone know what I should wear to be induced? Stupid question I know, but what is the appropriate outfit?

Coriander73 · 14/09/2006 08:42

Hi Pol, for what it's worth maybe you're expressing too early? I know that 3 weeks is the earliest you should wait if possible to allow your milk flow & demand to be established. Your MW sounds bloody useless...of course it's worth her showing you...honestly....I wish I could show you..Stay cool...it'll come good..

Compo, keep your Mother there!!! Sounds like you've also had a show! Mabel, what is happening?!!

Congrats appyday!

Marls, sounds like you're doing really well on the weight loss already!!! By the way what is pitocin? Re the American issue, to me, & I'd imagine to most of us Brits, American is a US citizen! If we were refering to a Uruguyan / Mexican etc then it'd be as such or that they were Central or South American etc & as for Canadians...well, they are Canadians aren't they!!! My DH was skiing in Canada last Feb & they were very clear to make the point that they were Canadian & didn't want to be in anyway associated with their counterparts across the boarder...(this is obviously my DH's experience so I'm trying not not generalise here)! I guess it's like Andy Murray...very quick to let you all know he is Scottish not English or British for that matter...what is with his wristband?! It drives me mad, I mean you never saw Tin Henman were a St George's cross on his wrist did you?!!!!! Rant rant....

Due tm..baby very active last night, no BH really...just bloody carpol tunnel in both wrists this time..arrghhhh

for my sweep i wore a nice pair of new knickers aunder my usual trousers.
didnt want them to see my grundies!
tmi, but i also had a good freshen up before we left!

1Baby1Bump · 14/09/2006 08:46

thanks to all for the best wishes.
i have more iron tablets to take and am getting tired of the afterpains but they shouldnt last much longer? babe is 5 days today.

mabel1973 · 14/09/2006 08:51

yes - you guessed it still here.
Marls - great to hear you are coping so much better this time round
Congrats to appyday - beautiful names!
Compo - that sounds like what I had after my 1st sweep on monday, although nothings happened since (obviously!)
Pol - you sound exactly how I was with DS with regards to feeding - he took a good 2 weeks to latch on properly and I expressed and mixed fed in the meantime.I don't think you're being indecisive, you do whatever it takes, as long as he's getting fed that's the main thing!
Waiting for the midwife to come now for 2nd sweep, so will let you know if anything occurs!

Coriander73 · 14/09/2006 08:54

Good luck Mabel..I really thought you were going to give us some lovely news this morning...

OP posts:
liquidclocks · 14/09/2006 09:10

Finishing work has meant giving back my lap top so just a quick one as dining chairs are like torture (friend bring bouncy ball round tomorrow to help!).

Calvemjoe - for my induction last time I wore my oldest grottiest nightie because it was going to get covered in blood and waters and could be thrown away immediately after but covered up before labour room with nice dressing gown.

Pol - sorry the BF isn't going well for you yet - tiktok, mears and that crowd might be able to help if you post in the BF/FF section, they've been really helpful to me in terms of forward planning. Hope DH is being supportive of you.

Marls - the only time I've actually come accross the typical stereotype for your nation was in Paris - couldn't go anywhere without hearing a very loud american accent spouting off some nonsense about the Da Vinci Code! Oh and Lincoln for some reason, never thought that would be a tourist hotspot but there you go! And believe me the tea-drinking jam and crumpet eating stereotype is still going strong out here in rural England

Mimpim - don't worry about what your midwife said, you will have the energy to get through, we all find it somewhere. I've been very breathless too though on iron but I was last time too and it wasn't a problem - sort of fades into the background once labour starts and you don't think about it.

Appyday - CONGRATULATIONS! well done, looking forward to more details!

mabel1973 · 14/09/2006 09:28

Midwife just been. She said I am no further on than I was on monday. Still 2 cm dilated, cervix still in mid position. She said she really thought mondays sweep would work and didn't expect to have to come and do a 2nd. I am booked in now to be induced next week. I really hope this one works
Ooo all this talk of crumpets though........ with Marmite - yum!
Might have to get DH to go and get me some crumpets to cheer me up

Lysettes · 14/09/2006 09:29

appy - congrats!

mabel and calvemjoe - hang on in there - sounds ridiculous but going to the hospital for a check up towards when i would have been due and seeing all these ladies that were the size i would have b een made me feel a little sad i didn't get the last couple of months - not that it's any consolation for those of you still waiting i know!

suzie - turn the ringer off your phone - should work!

off to the doctors with jacob now as his wound isn't getting any better and he's been on antibiotics for three days now. poor little man - he's being so brave! And he's just got himself to sleep after dozing for an hour or so but i am going to have to wake him sadly!

will attempt to start a post natal thread now - not very technical so.....

Lysettes · 14/09/2006 09:35

for post natal thread click here

it's called september 2006 even though i'm on it and Jacob came in July!

Coriander73 · 14/09/2006 09:42

Oh Mabel, lo is obviously quite content to stay put - not that it's any consolation to you! I say go & indulge in a packet of crumpets & Marmite..that might do the trick! Have you tried pineapple / raspberry leaf tea / hot curry / hot bath / bumpy ride / nipple stimulation / sex (my least fav option!)??!!!!!

Lysettes good to hear from you & well done for starting the postnatal thread...hopefully it want be long before we'll all be on there....

Morning all just a quick one got bit of a headache,

Great to hear from you lysettes been wondering how you hellkat and lexyb were doing, hope your ds wound starts to heal - poor mite.

1b1b- glad your home safe and well, what a birth story

Mabel I hope your sweep works today

Congratulations appyday, you have picked a lovely name!

getting sick of all these niggly pains not turning into anything, started cramping again at 14.30 and was there constant all evening no matter what position I was in, went to bed and nothing yet again when I woke besides nausea, just start with very very mild pains again. Have had loose stools which is supposed to be a sign I think.

JayJep · 14/09/2006 11:09

Hi to everyone thats still left to pop. Well nothing happened yesterday which I didn't expect to on D-Day. I have just had reflexogy and all the right points for bith was so sore which is apprently good.... now feeling quite sleepy and have to pick DS2 up from preschool in less than an hour! Seeing midwife this avo for a sweep.... hoping that it will do some good.

Good luck with yours Mabel.... you definately deserve to pop next xx

mabel1973 · 14/09/2006 11:13

Cori - I have tried it all (apart from the sex - but I've bored you all with that sorry tale already, I did tell DH he was on a promise tonight, he tried to muster up some enthusiasm!)
I run out of raspberry leaf tea capsules today and I am not buying any more.
Jayjep - good luck with your sweep - hope it is more succesful than mine.

puppy · 14/09/2006 12:16

goodluck with the sweep jayjep .

Just picked DS up from school and one of the mums brought me a box of raspberry leaf tea which was nice of her. Just made myself some but scared to taste it lol.

Coriander73 · 14/09/2006 12:46

That's why I'm taking the tablets...the taste is awful...!!!

puppy · 14/09/2006 13:05

Keeeping my fingers crossed for you flumpy.

I have had my rlt, it was not that bad, lol liquid i did put 2 sugars in.

JayJep · 14/09/2006 14:11

Hi All,

Well I have just come back from my sweep...... was not as bad as expected...had to put a breave face on though for DS2 who had to come with me which I think helped take my mind of it. Well midwife saud that I was 1-2 cm dilated and have started having more of a show now.

Just hope that it will not be much longer.

liquidclocks · 14/09/2006 15:44

Good luck Jayjep, hope it gets going soon.

I have my whole nerve supply being cut off feeling again and have all day - only thing that's really getting to me at mo. DS is in such a better mood today, it's like having a different child. Maternity leave is great btw! Have made 6 christmas cards, 3 thank you cards and and a b'day card for my dad and it's not even 4 'o' clock! Going to put together a scrapbook page for DS now - figure if I do one each day until my due date he'll be nearly up to date and I can spend time doing the new baby's one without guilt!

Also think I may have just recruited a new person - Piglet06.... she's due in 5 days

SophieB · 14/09/2006 16:26

hi, im due the 23rd Sept, this is my first! had my midwife appointment yesterday, the baby is in the same position as he was 2 weeks ago!! ive got a feeling im going to go over due, so this hot weather better have gone by then!!! he is engaged but not that far down, will he move in a week?

Sukiepop · 14/09/2006 16:47

Hi SophieB
I'm also due on 23 Sept with my 1st. My baby's head has been 4/5 engaged for the last 2 weeks, last week it had moved down to the brim (? dunno what that means)Also the scan showed that my placenta was starting to wear - but only at stage 1 (hmm, dunno what that means either, but apparently I'm not to worry about it - would be different if it was at stage 3) Anyway after all that the MW is convinced I'm going early, so for the past fortnight I'm waiting to drop...still nothing! I have another aMW appt tomorrow - I'll let you know what the update is.
