39 weeks now and no sign of the baby coming anytime soon. Am resigned to the fact I will be induced next Friday. I really wanted a June baby Sad. Mainly because of the heat which is killing me, plus the fact DH is a farmer and he will start combining soon meaning he will be working very long days leaving me on my todd.

Am very grumpy today!

Good luck Auntie, am thinking of you.

Love the name of your little one Ellen, many congratulations!!

Incapinka · 26/06/2014 13:31

Is there room for the baby in the combine? It may like the noise and vibrations! Dh isn't a farmer but is a grain trader so i am like you hoping that baby comes sooner rather than later as harvest is his busiest time!

ismarah · 26/06/2014 15:26

Had pre-op assessment this morning with a surprise growth scan thrown in as bean is apparently small. Turns out MWs measure fundal height in different ways and so there was an outlier on the graph she drew up that caused some concern. Scan was all fine though, bean is estimated about 6lbs and all in proportion so nothing to worry about.

Knackered now.

ellentullo · 26/06/2014 16:38

blue my waters broke overnight of the day before Isaac was born. Not spectacular amount but woke up with a wet patch and was then leaking more expected. Went in to get checked in the morning with plan to return by midnight if not in labour. Things came on pretty quickly as soon as I got home which I was pleased about. Didn't fancy an induction! Being early meant I wasn't "allowed" to go to the midwife led unit or use the pool, but I am still very happy with the care that I had overall

ixkle Isaac and I had 2 nights in a postnatal ward specifically for prem babies, even though he was only 2 days from being term. Probably wasn't strictly necessssary but I am pleased to have had access to specialist breast feeding teams etc.

MrsA2 · 26/06/2014 16:41

Ellen, sounds like a very positive experience despite not being quite what you expected? How are you all setting in at home?

ellentullo · 26/06/2014 16:49

Mixed! Daytimes are grand because he will feed and then settle in a Moses basket for 1-2hrs. For some reason this doesn't work at night and he won't settle so we are doing a lot of feeding - last night between 11pm and 5am pretty non stop. Getting v sore nipples even though my "latch" looks ok to friends and the midwife so am off to see a breast feeding specialist tomorrow.

Worried about the prospect of 40min journey though cos haven't actually left the house yet!

ellentullo · 26/06/2014 16:50

Should say - have found mumsnet forums are helpful for breast feeding related stuff too

BlueC2 · 26/06/2014 17:35

Thanks Ellen glad you're doing ok - well done for persisting with the breastfeeding- has Isaac been checked for tongue tie as could affect his suck/make your nipples sore. Also oodles of lanisoh will hopefully help.

Re my waters no sign of anything further so wondering if it was just a random mega wee at 4am Blush Having said that I would dearly love everything to kick off-hot curry planned for dinner tonight :)

MrsA2 · 26/06/2014 18:07

Hope you are getting some sleep in the day time at least then Ellen given that Isaac sounds a little nocturnal at the moment! This is our first so I've nothing helpful to advise re. the sore nipples but sounds like you are getting some good support. Good luck with the car journey! Hopefully he'll just sleep throughout.

MrsA2 · 26/06/2014 18:12

Blue, not sure if it's good news or not about your waters really given that you want to get going now - hope the curry works for you!

mupperoon · 26/06/2014 18:41

Congratulations on the arrival of Isaac ellen - the birth sounds like a really positive experience despite being slightly pre-term!

Hoping all the other imminent arrivals are also going well!

Good news about your bonus scan ismarah.

Feeling very positive at 35+2. I just had a meeting with one of the supervisors of midwives at the hospital to confirm that I could use the birth centre despite my advanced age. She reviewed my notes and birth plan with me, went through the protocols they would follow in various scenarios such as induction, breech birth etc, introduced me to some of the midwives, got me to cancel my 36 week GP appointment and have it in the birth centre instead to increase chances of meeting even more midwives, and got a midwife to do a full antenatal check (my last one was with the community midwife on Monday).

They were both really encouraging about using hypnotherapy and breathing techniques which was great, as I will find cynicism on the day pretty difficult to cope with!

I had been a little nervous about increasing watery discharge so the midwife used the new AmniSure test (a swab test which doesn't need a full speculum examination, hooray) to make sure I wasn't leaking amniotic fluid (which I wasn't). Everyone should have access to this if it's really 99% effective. Much better than bleeding for 24 hours as I did after a speculum exam a few weeks ago.

Everyone was really friendly, sweet and seemed committed to what I can only call excellent customer service and making sure that I was comfortable and happy. I came away glad that I'd picked that hospital (living just south of London there are a lot of local choices and people tend to look at me askance when I tell them where we're having the baby, as their general reputation is not brilliant). And also feeling very lucky to have all of this great care for free (ok, I know I've paid for it via NI/tax but still).

OK, yet another rant (albeit a positive one) over!

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 26/06/2014 19:06

Am still grumpy. 39 weeks today.

Everyone telling me to have lots of sex, including today, the MIL and daily, the randy DH. Its bloody painful due to SPD and I am just not in the mood so its not remotely enjoyable. Also feel slightly miffed that I have to do it 'for the baby' and DH gets to enjoy himself but I don't. Not entirely sure the feminist in me agrees with this method of bringing on labour.

Anyone else feeling the same??? Or am I just really grumpy?

NancyinCali · 26/06/2014 19:06

ellen congrats on the birth of Isaac :)

plate how did the ECV go?

How are you doing auntie?

mupperoon all sounds great :)

Sorry if I missed anyone - this is a fast moving thread.

My news: baby is head down!!! Whoop whoop! Oh and speaking of whoop, had my whooping cough jab too. 35+5 weeks now.

ismarah · 26/06/2014 19:22

Liquid technically you just need the spunk. Suggest you hand him a fleshlight and tell him to make a deposit..then shout at him to hurry up every time he comes close and really put him off his stride. The w-word can also be used, accurately.

The baby will come anyway, as I understand it. 'Helpful' yet unsolicited comments can sod right off. I also have SPD and there are few things more painful than DTD. I miss it for my own sake, and I know DH does too. I am not obliged to service him and neither are you with yours.

This is why there are vibrators. Harrumph.

Excellent news Nancy now to hope baby stays that way!

strawberryjam · 26/06/2014 19:38

Can I join in?! I am 38 weeks today I am 3/5 engaged according to midwife yesterday. This is baby number 2 and number was an EMCS and I have an ELCS booked for 2 weeks with the agreement to try a vbac in the interim. I am really hoping I go into natural labour before the 40 weeks but am not willing to go overdue or be induced, hence the ELCS.

I will try and keep up with the thread but it is very fast moving!!

MrsA2 · 26/06/2014 19:42

Excellent news Nancy! I've been trying to be so good all week to get this baby into a good position and think it's shifted today as I'm getting odd movements (still lots but different to before). Really hoping the midwife tomorrow says it isn't back to back (I'm certain it has been up until now). How I would love to lie back and recline on our comfy sofa though!

Liquid, only do it if you want to - it's not even that proven really to help so probably not worth bothering if it's rubbish for you, depends how desperately you want to try everything to get the baby moving I guess!

Plateofcrumbs · 26/06/2014 20:04

nancy am Envy at your head down baby. ECV isn't until tomorrow. Am feeling very pensive again. No longer find stats about adverse outcomes being rare that reassuring as I just feel I've been on the wrong side of the stats too many times this pregnancy.

Muperoon I am also 'just south of London' - which hospital are you?

Hope all is going well auntie you deserve a lovely birth!

NancyinCali · 26/06/2014 20:08

I have everything crossed for you plate. (I got muddled with time zones thinking your ECV was today). I have no way of knowing if it was the exercises, the chiro or if she would've just moved on her own.

mupperoon · 26/06/2014 20:08

liquid I can't remember when the last proper rumpy pumpy was. Probably at around 26 weeks. It was bloody uncomfortable, I remember that. I feel a little sorry for the other half but given that it takes me 5 mins just to get out of bed these days due to various discomforts, any sort of hanky-panky seems a bit far-fetched. YANBG.

Nancy good news! And hope the injection arm isn't too sore.

strawberry hello and good luck with the VBAC, I know where you're coming from on induction, it freaks me out.

MrsA2 Midwife told me today that lying on your side on the sofa is still fine for getting the baby to flop round to a back-to-front position - it's just the slumping backwards that's the problem. I don't fancy spending entire evenings on all fours, that's for certain (see above).

mupperoon · 26/06/2014 20:10

Plate I am at Croydon University Hospital, formerly known as Mayday, a.k.a. May-die (as the midwife at my booking appointment gleefully told me!) Where are you?

mixi82 · 26/06/2014 20:25

In tomorrow to get induced!! So will wish all the rest of you ladies the best, I'll be in touch as soon as baby arrives :)

Incapinka · 26/06/2014 20:35

Good luck mixi and plate. Will be thinking of you both Thanks

strawberryjam · 26/06/2014 20:42

Good luck mixi and plate

Plateofcrumbs · 26/06/2014 21:05

Ooh good luck mixi!

muperoon I wondered if it would be Mayday - I hear it has changed a lot! I'm at the PRUH.

mtpg · 26/06/2014 21:09

Congratulations for the new babies and good luck who is in process to have the baby. :)
Re DTD, I'm 38+4 today, we are DTD every day since 37 weeks, nothing happened.
I hope will help for others, but don't stress out if you don't feel like.
I had sweep+curry+2DTD on Tuesday. And off to buy the raspberry leaf tea tomorrow :)
