Checking tap adapters is a good idea will do that today.

Took DS swimming this morning 40 min walk each way, lower back is really aching now, not sure if it's the walking & swimming or things kicking off. Feel like baby has dropped, feeling a lot of pressure low down which I didn't have yesterday. Really hope baby isn't on her way I want to get over the weekend first have a few more things to do before I'm ready.

Right DS has just fallen asleep so I'm going to sleep as well Smile painting shelves, doing washing, and tidying up can wait.

Incapinka · 02/07/2014 13:46

Thanks hayley for the offer. They Stopped firing just after midnight last night. Grrrr! We are in Dorset though so depends if your OH has contacts down here (would be very useful!)

DS has been at the childminders this morning which has enabled me and DH to put one coat of paint on his new room. Had to have a lie down afterwards as was pathetically shattered and then the health visitor turned up.

Thanks for the nice birth story too and congratulations!! I really should go bag packing but haven't really got the energy. I have also given up with names until it makes it's arrival as whilst we agree on a girls name, neither of us are particularly inspired about boys names.

Hope everyone is doing ok. Snickers ice cream sounds yummy... I am trying to avoid my lunchtime ice cream as DH wants to go sea swimming (training) later and has suggested that DC and I go with him and watch. He is then planning on running home. Insane.

Am I going mad or is my bump clicking?

lemonpoppyseed · 02/07/2014 14:38

You can tell when the month's members start their mat leave - the thread becomes much busier!

Went to the hospital for check yesterday - all is fine - sonographer at the US place I finally managed to get an appt at missed a measurement. Dr sent me home, although did offer to induce there and then if I wanted it, but decided to wait a little longer for nature to intervene. Have regular OB appt on Friday, which means another sweep plus another scan, then have been booked for a Monday induction.

So am now sitting on the couch watching Wimbledon, and enjoying some quiet time! The end just might be in sight!

ZingWhale · 02/07/2014 14:59

Patch

maybe baby has a click-counter thingy?
Very advanced child, monitoring his/her own kicking!Grin

Haha perhaps, I mean I have been reading the classics aloud to bump whilst playing beehives and reciting Latin verb tables throughout pregnancy.

Seriously though first time I thought I'd imagined it but now I've heard it three times I'm convinced. Each time I keep expecting my waters to go... But nothing. So weird!

Patchworking9til5 · 02/07/2014 15:10

Lol beethoven not beehives

fifi669 · 02/07/2014 15:26

I've had a few clicks! I thought it was more hips than bump though

dollydaydream27 · 02/07/2014 15:44

Hi everyone lovely catching up on all of your news and congratulations to those who have given birth to the first July babies!
I finished for mat leave 6 weeks ago (work for NHS and had lots of annual leave to take ) but today marks the official start of maternity leave ...not annual leave.
It's all go here though as we have bought a house and get the keys on Monday when I will be 39+1. Hoping to be all moved in by the end of the week and that baby can at least hang on until due date -13th July. It's all very last minute but we absolutely cannot wait to be in there . Luckily it's neutrally decorated so there is no huge rush to change things just yet !
I have been feeling really achey low down below my bump the past 2-3 days so I decided to take it easy today.

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 02/07/2014 15:52

I did a loud click/clunk this morning as babys head dropped a bit more Grin

Anyhow... since the midwife did not do my glucose diabetes test at 33 weeks my doctor told me on monday I needed to do it yesterday, hospital just called to say I have gestational diabetes. I'm 39 + 6 and being induced on Friday FFS. after about 40 minutes explaining what the hospital will do after the birth I took the midwifes number to call back in case I had any questions and it turns out she was from the wrong hospital! I had switched at 20 weeks. So then had to call correct hospital and tell them the results and sort it out. They seem less concerned.

Anyhow on the plus side I WILL be induced on friday. Baby is too big. The bad news is the correct hospital would have had me massaging my breasts expressing milk to store for a feed immediately after baby is born about 3 weeks ago. In case you have all forgot I have shown no sign of milk yet Sad so it looks like my newborn will be fed formula at first.

Its all too complicated to explainto DH so mum has wisely said not too until the induction appointment. And we are currently drinking champagne and watching miss marple on tv Grin.

GrouchyKiwi · 02/07/2014 16:15

liquid I had no sign of milk before my DD was born, and the colostrum came in straight after she arrived, so don't feel down about it yet.

Have the fattest feet in the world again, tired, grouchy, have thrown gently placed DD into the travel cot and I think she's finally succumbed to sleep so now I'm going to rest and make DH come home early on time today so he can help out. Seems that the moving of furniture and books has really taken it out of me now.

GrouchyKiwi · 02/07/2014 16:19

And now I have the biggest craving for marshmallow shortcake. Does it exist over here? I could make it myself but standing up isn't the best plan.

ZingWhale · 02/07/2014 16:21

liquid

wow, that's some news to get your head round. and quick!
how are you feeling about it all?

it's obv your decision to ff (formula feed) to start with, but I'd recommend to put baby to breast asap after birth, the stimulation from suckling should start things off.
in other words don't give up on bf just yet!Smile

And it's perfectly possible to bf & ff - I had to do that with DS4 as he was jaundiced on day 5, hospital stay and all.
he was find bf at first, but then stopped and wouldn't feed which made jaundice worse - -I had to ff him in hospital then I got him to bf again.
(but 2 weeks later I had mastitis so he was back on mixed feeding permanently from 3 week old).

how exciting though, you'll have baby by the end of the week! yay!Smile

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 02/07/2014 16:29

zing Thanks, I'm not too bad considering, I always said I wouldn't worry too much if I couldn't breast feed, and I don't want to breast feed for months and months anyhow but would have liked to do a bit. Am sat here massaging my boobs to see if I can stimulate them. DH will have to help later Grin.

GrouchyKiwi · 02/07/2014 16:36

Poor husbands, having to help out in such a self-sacrificial way.

Zing Yes, I am a bad, bad pregnant lady. Was supposed to be shipping the toddler off to a friend today so I could rest but friend is sick. I am sort of resting, but toddler has been extra toddler today (no doubt because I'm tired and super grumpy) so resting hasn't really happened.

No wet fish needed.

BlueC2 · 02/07/2014 16:44

liquid why do they want you to start expressing pre-birth? Even when induced the hormones will kick in to get the colostrum moving surely?! Sorry about the total mess up by the hospital though-what a pain!

dolly can't believe you're moving house at 39 weeks Shock presuming you've got a good removals team and friends/family to help with unpacking?!

lemon totally agree re mat leave/thread we're storming through this one-almost half full already!

I've just been to Kiddicare and Sainsbury's got some of the 'waterwipes' to try and stocked up on nappies for DS since someone mentioned newborn milk being rather laxative on a toddler (he only has a bedtime feed at the moment but not sure whether he's suddenly going to want more once he sees how often baby gets milky time!). Got a few odd looks as I pushed what turned into quite a heavy trolley around sainsburys but operation baby eviction has commenced Grin 38+4 today (first contractions at 39 weeks with DS)

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 02/07/2014 17:03

Blue its so the baby can be fed immediately after birth I think to keep the babys blood sugars level. The hospital said they like to get ladies used to expressing and get their milk moving so the first feed is easy, just incase it takes a while for the milk to kick in. Helps to prevent a long stay in SCU for the baby.

what are waterwipes? I got huggies pure are they the same?

Ipsumlorem · 02/07/2014 17:50

Havent had time to catch up properly today yet but it seems a few more babies will be emerging soon Smile

Im a bit worried that I have literally slept from 0030 to 0700 this morning, then napped from 1130 to 1330 then napped again from 1515 to 1730 Confused

I dont normally nap at all and certainly wouldnt take 2 naps in a day! I also had a long nap yesterday. I literally feel like I could go back to sleep again right now - is it normal to be sooo tired at this point? (am 38 plus 4 today) Confused

Ipsumlorem · 02/07/2014 17:51

I feel I should add in my defence that I have been on the sofa for most of the last 2 days to try and reduce the size of my massive cankles! Blush

MrsA2 · 02/07/2014 18:23

Ipsum just make the most of it I'd say, we have the perfect excuse for napping and you obviously needed it.

Liquid that sounds like a confusing and frustrating day. But how exciting that your baby will be here this week.

Dolly, best of luck with the house move. We moved two months ago and it's so fantastic being in the new place. Hope your baby stays put to make things easier for you.

Not much happening here despite yesterday's sweep though I have had some twinges 'down there' which I'm hoping means baby is either engaging further (was only 2/5 yesterday still) or things opening up. Had a bit of a panic last night that my hospital bags weren't that ready after all so spent the morning getting them up together and testing out the TENs machine. Had a nice hour reading out in the sun too.

Online shopping delivery due tomorrow, and then I think it's time for this baby to show up please!

ismarah · 02/07/2014 18:27

Ladies of also generous boobage - how do you get your baby to latch on? Nipples are pointing downwards, and so getting them pointed to the top of baby's mouth is a bit tricky. (I'll catch up on previous posts when I'm not trying to get this right!)

ismarah · 02/07/2014 18:28

Oh, forgot. Rightie works fine but would like leftie to share the pain...

BlueC2 · 02/07/2014 18:29

liquid these are waterwipes Huggies pure are great and we use them for DS but still have a surprising amount of chemicals in them. Not tried the waterwipes yet but will see how they are for when we're out and about with baby - might be easier than messing around with cotton wool and water when we're out and DS around too. We'll stick to cotton wool and water for baby when at home though.

Re. the expressing thing ... With DS (not induced though) they put him on me just after they'd cleaned him up and he snuggled his way up my chest and found my nipple and latched on to feed. I'd not had any evidence of milk/colostrum before then. Are they expecting baby to have to go to SCU?

BlueC2 · 02/07/2014 18:33

ismarah with DS I had to do rugby hold for one of the sides so that DS latched in the same way as with the other side. There's loads of videos showing that hold on YouTube etc if you google rugby hold breastfeeding. I had to do it for a few weeks until we both got a bit more confident and then I managed to get him to take that side across my body the same as the other one. I found when doing the rugby hold I just needed a pile of cushions to balance his body on. Hope that helps?
