Plate I honestly don't think you will care very soon - I had sleepless nights for my last couple of weeks but as soon as maternity leave began it just felt very unimportant. Don't overdo it tonight.

Patchworking9til5 · 01/07/2014 21:28

plate just walk away... It's not worth it! I was answering "urgent" emails and calls on last day at 4.30 so actually missed saying goodbye to several colleagues who left early on the Friday. Once I walked out I just thought why on earth did I do that? If it doesn't get done nobody will hold it against you until you return. They will just be amazed at how well you managed working at the end. Also you don't want to be too shattered for the first week of mat leave! Xx

icklekid · 01/07/2014 21:42

plate do what you need to do and walk away, don't keep checking emails (I might have done this first week of mat leave!) and know that you did your best!

Love mums advice liquid a glass of champagne would be delicious right now.

My mum called asking what I would like for birthday on Sunday- not for baby or house just for me. I had 0 ideas! Not thought about it at all due to baby consuming all thoughts!

I agree with whoever said labour symptoms are like ttc symptoms. ..have we got more or less control? Def been clearing out for last few days and long walk encouraged more braxton hicks but no real sign of baby!

Zing that sounds positive! Never thought I would be getting this worked up over going to the looBlush! Hope it's a sign of good things to come.

had consultant appointment at 10am which involved an internal exam - OMG i have never felt pain like it (inc getting a back tooth removed even though injection didnt work)!! i was sore for a good hour or so after & the pain has come back. i've also been bleeding all day as a result. baby was not impressed with her almost fist poking & retreated up to my lungs. even OH was shocked how rough it all was. she mumbled something abt 1cm & thought it highly unlikely anything would happen this week. baby is currently 8&half lb!! also its head size is measuring almost 2wks ahead at 40wks+2 :o
this is scaring the life out of me & afraid of how sore labour will be if an internal hurt so bad...

Incapinka · 01/07/2014 23:24

FFS! After my 4 hours of sleep last night I came to bed earlyish, nearly asleep by 1030 only for the bloody army to start firing on the ranges. Listening to them now and wide awake. Grrrrr!!!!

Ipsumlorem · 01/07/2014 23:25

plate you will soon forget about work. I was seriously stressed out and it took a week or two but im now blissfully happy diying, going for coffee with friends and watching rubbish tv Grin Mind you I did get an email the other day telling me an article I wrote had been reviewed and needs minor revisions to be completed by end of August - may be tempting fate regards an early labour a bit by not getting a head start on that.......

If baby comes on the 4th as per dh's prediction then I will certainly be getting him to do euromillions! Smile

In bed trying to rest my massive cankles. Spent all night searching for my favourite chicken who 'went missing' earlier. Turns out she was actually roosting underneath my potato plants!

BlueC2 · 01/07/2014 23:32

mummytobe I found the internals I had in early labour v awful bordering on traumatic (ended up in floods of tears with both!) but tbh once labour proper starts it's not so bad as at least then you feel it's accomplishing something so to speak. Sorry you had/still have pain though.

I have mostly spent the day lazily chatting to my Dad which has been nice and relaxing. Though once again I've got period like cramps, lots of movement and BHs-seems to be an evening/overnight thing and then all gone in the morning which is annoying! DH exhausted this evening and DS v unsettled (woke up crying and took an hour to calm/resettle him) so thinking tonight not the optimum night for labour to start. Ooh just had lots of prodding by bean down below and have a v heavy feeling in bottom as if I need to poo -which I don't :) Think maybe bean just wriggling down a bit further.

BlueC2 · 01/07/2014 23:40

DS awake crying again :( wish I knew what was wrong! Have a feeling this could be a long night! For the first time I'm actually hoping baby stays put tonight!

Glad you found the chicken Ips :)

Hope all's quiet again soon Inca

fifi669 · 01/07/2014 23:45

Had a pub quiz tonight, we won :)

That's the last thing I wanted out the way before baby arrives...... So just clock watching now

ZingWhale · 02/07/2014 03:04

Awake again... Managed 3 hours so far. Just hope I get some more otherwise it will be another long and emotional day. Sleep deprivation sucks.

icklekid · 02/07/2014 05:07

Urgh incapinka know the lack of sleep feeling oh too well however somehow whispers I slept 10.30-5!! Amazing! Was one almighty wee though! (Apologies tmi...)

blue sounds like you've had a bad night of with ds Sad I think my biggest mummy fear is upset child and not knowing how to help/what's wrong!

zing and ipsum hope cankles have significantly decreased by now and your able to rest them today. .. serious sympathy for one pregnancy symptom not really had (potentially the only one?!)

fifi good work on the quiz I'm awful at them due to a lack of general (or any!) Knowledge!

Midwife appointment today just hoping that am more engaged/ progressing on to labour. Feel like I am however thay doesn't mean a huge amount!

Last night's cause of much tears was I was fast asleep when dh got back from work late and we were meant to be going to bbq and bringing potato salad. Cue me waking up in panic and madly boiling potatoes. Dh thought I should leave it and we should just go as they would all have eaten and wouldn't want the potatoes if too late. Cue me crying that I wasn't going empty handed and would only take 15mins...we go with potato salad, they haven't started eating and I'm so relieved that burst into tears again! Potato salad may have been on the al dante side but never mind!

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 02/07/2014 05:29

potato salad tears are not too extreme in my opinion Smile

Have managed a couple of hours sleep but could do with with more so waiting for DH to wake up at 6.30 and will head back to bed. Thank goodness I don't have a toddler to deal with - I don't know how those of you that do manage!

justhayley · 02/07/2014 05:38

Hiya, wow had lots to catch up on today. Third time iv been awake tonight although did fall back to sleep pretty quickly the 1st 2 times. Hoping as soon as I finish this post I'll be asleep as DS has swimming in the morning so need to be up and alert by 8.

Congratulations mixi - lovely name we actually considered that (both names) for DS1 lol. #greatminds. I'm surprised they let you go so long from being 10cm to birth. Hope your not too sore from forceps and are home enjoying cuddles now.

Muperoon - glad I made you giggle :) had the shed put together today and ended up sitting in it trying to take in as much of the smell as I could lol. Iv had no food cravings apart from ribeena at the start. Actually did eat peanut butter on toast with banana for breakfast everyday for about a month but not sure if that was a craving. I always thought the whole craving thing was exaggerated - never had it with DS. I thought women waking up in the night and NEEDING something in particular was put on, but when my wood chip/dust thing kicks in it takes hold of me totally.

Collie: I was pooing A LOT (maybe 5times a day) a few weeks ago. I thought I was 'clearing out' and baby was coming very soon but it's stopped now and everything has gone back to normal. Probably stopped me gaining a pound or 2 that week though :) but it was very annoying.

Plate: With DS I was the same with work - although hadn't actually left when he arrived. I didn't switch off until he was 5/6 weeks old. From 1 week I was still going in and working for a few hours bringing baby and mum with me. I was managing a small business where the owner hadn't got a replacement for me & there wasn't anyone who knew how to do my job. Luckily it wasn't an office environment so I could bring DS in and everyone staff and clients just loved it. About 5 weeks in (when DS was actually due) I started hating it and going in less and less (I could choose my hours). A month later the owner closed the business. I was gutted as I loved my job but also relieved as there was so much pressure on me to keep working I thought I would never actually get maternity leave. It's not easy to walk away from emails admin etc but once youv done it and your focus is elsewhere it will become easier.

Mummy2be: my internal exams during labour were worse than actual labour. This time round in my birth plan iv put that I don't want more than 1 unless it's medically necessary I think they are horrific!

Incapinka: do you love near an Army base? That is really annoying. My DP is based in Bulford if your near there I'll give him a call next time and tell him to shut the f up and get his men off the range a pregnant women is trying to sleep :)

My birthing pool was delivered today :) or yesterday I guess as it is 5.40am now??. Very excited to have it although hoping I can get some shelves put up and the room more ready by the weekend before I blow it up. I'm determined to birth in my dinning room and for it not to have a pile of boxes in the corner, it stresses me everytime I go in the room, & feel like I'm running out if time to make it like the tranquil spa I imagine it to be when I'm labouring.

Right going to try to fall back to sleep now - alarm going off in just over 2 hours grrrrrrr

Plateofcrumbs · 02/07/2014 07:38

hayley that is a hardcore dedication to work! I just feel really disappointed I haven't achieved as much in the time I've been in this job as I would like, and I'm leaving things in a bit of a shambles.

Am feeling particularly gutted as the last interviewee in my epic recruitment spree cancelled his interview due to illness yesterday, was so desperate to finish that off!

Oh well, deeply looking forward to a lie-in tomorrow, I am shattered.

mupperoon · 02/07/2014 07:53

The idea of internal exams during labour gives me the screaming heebeegeebees! Hayley it's on my birth plan too not to have vaginal exams unless absolutely necessary as I can't see how that works with HypnoBirthing. When I spoke about this to the supervisor of midwives she seemed very accommodating but who knows what will happen on the day.

I had a look for alternative ways of working out how everything is progressing. I'm sending them to my other half / midhusband so he can fight my corner.

Definitely ignoring the idea of self-checking too from the second link!

Plateofcrumbs · 02/07/2014 09:02

Internals seem to be one of those things that depending on who is doing it/luck of the draw can be agony or nothing. Am hoping my painless experience last week will be replicated!

At this stage am most worried about being on a monitor and not being mobile.

Was also surprised to find that the bed in delivery suite was tiny - so narrow! And only chair was a small school-style chair - feel sorry for DH if this thing drags on! Was jealously listening to the NCT posse cooing about how lovely the facilities are in the MLU Envy.

GrouchyKiwi · 02/07/2014 09:17

One day away from this thread and so much has happened!

Congratulations mixi! Hope that you and baby are recovering well.

I didn't have any internals during labour last time, but that's probably because we got to the birthing centre sometime between 7:30 and 8pm and DD was born at 9pm. I guess they could tell I was pretty far along. So I really hope I don't have any this time, although I also hope that my labour isn't the typical halving of time of the first labour because if it is I'll only have 3 1/2 hours or so and that is FAR too quick. About the same length of time would be fine by me.

New flooring was put in yesterday and the living room looks amazing. It's pretty much put back to rights; just a few ornaments to go. My back is sore from three days of heaving stuff about bad pregnant lady but today will be a rest day so hopefully that will clear up soon.

For the due dates list: my EDD is 28 July.

BlueC2 · 02/07/2014 10:50

Morning all - DH has the day off and has taken DS out for the morning so I'm sat in the garden with a naughty snickers ice cream Grin before doing some more things off my never ending to-do list!

Thankfully DS didn't wake again and I actually had an ok nights sleep

Becky2208 · 02/07/2014 11:28

Morning ladies, congrats to all those who's babies have arrived.

Birth story is as positive as can be - started having on off contractions on Saturday night, which continued all day Sunday, so went to the hospital Sunday around 7:30 pm, and baby Rhys James was born at 4:05 am Monday morning, with just gas and air and some minor grazing. We got home from hospital yesterday evening - they had let DH stay with us and wanted to ensure breast feeding was established, so the bf specialist spent some time with us before we left, which has meant feeding now seems to be going really well.

He's tiny, so we had to send people out for tiny baby clothes as newborn drowns him, but he's totally perfect - just can't stop staring at him!

Hope everyone else is well.

Plateofcrumbs · 02/07/2014 11:52

Aww lovely becky - glad to hear all going well (and that good births are out there!)

BlueC2 · 02/07/2014 12:23

Becky so glad it all went well and was a positive experience! Make sure you let yourself get some sleep in between the gazing at your gorgeous boy :)

Think the nesting may be kicking in hard this morning-just made a blackout board to go in the annoying glazed above our bedroom door covered in Orla Kiely paper for the hallway side and wallpaper to match our bedroom on the room side :) but then felt the need to wash down the bedroom and bathroom doors as noticed both still looking grimey from when we had the hallway plastered (still not painted though :( grrr). Also seem to be v keen rather obsessed with having all the washing done at the moment so when there's nearly a full load I find myself hunting around the house for other things that might need washing to make up the load Blush

More prodding/heavy feeling down below today! Going for a walk this afternoon then more bouncing on the ball and raspberry leaf tea I think!

Anyone heard from auntie hope all's ok after the transfusion?!
