Bump its Swedish and means 'little Mother' in honour of my late Mum. Smile

bumpbangbump · 19/06/2014 21:40

That's so lovely! My first has my dad's name as a middle name, he'd be horrified as he hated Adrian...

Captainmcgraw · 19/06/2014 21:44

Ignore people's opinions including mums' - she'll get used to it and you're never going to please everyone. I told my mum I liked the name Rowan and she pulled a face and refused to believe it was suitable for a boy rather than a girl. She eventually decided it was at least better than some of the other names I suggested. Think that's as good as it will get...

Kirstipops · 19/06/2014 21:46

Loulou the wrap seems good! Seems easy enough to tie up (albeit I'm sure will be a damn sight easier minus a bump!) but I think putting baby into it will take some practice :) As its just cotton it seems like it won't be too hot to wear either which is good.
Stigz that's rotten about your big mouthed mum! We still have no names but we won't tell folk when we do either!
Salted caramel ice cream Yellow??? What is this dairy nectar of the gods that you speak of?

sparkle our crib was a gift from my cousin...its from babies r us. I think if I was buying one I would have gone for the bed nest...although do they get annoying when you're changing sheets etc?

I forbid dp from telling his mother our name choices and then we agreed we would tell no one as it's so annoying a d upsetting when people think that gives them free rein to criticise! After Dd was born my mum came and told me I'd have to change her name because her work colleagues were having trouble pronouncing it! Um...no! All of her teachers and school friends pronounce it correctly so she's doing just fine with it 6 years on!

Me23 · 19/06/2014 21:52

yellow what a beautiful tribute to your mum :-)

We had decided on a name then read it was in the top ten girls names of the year Hmm so having a rethink still love the name though.

Have terrible wind pain in my chest wind ease not helping.

YellowWellies · 19/06/2014 21:55

I never struggled changing our bedding with the bednest attached. Didn't do it vair often in those first few months admittedly!!!

Kirsti tis a wondrous Mr Aldi creation. Cheap and lush!

binkybunny · 19/06/2014 22:11

On names...I really like the idea of being called Maman and Papa mainly because of the amount of time spent in France but have since found out is Afrkaanswhich would be fitting for DH.

Do you think other kids would just ridicule her though when she gets to school?

Kirstipops · 19/06/2014 22:31

We have the the moses basket and rocking stand for upstairs and I'll use the (huge) carrycot for downstairs I think.
Lillemor is lovely, I now want you to have a wee babygirlwelly so you can use the name!

OP posts:
mum2kiss · 19/06/2014 22:47

binky I would think that regardless of what your child calls you at home they will automatically refer to you as mum and dad when talking Amongst peers so I don't think it would be a problem...

YellowWellies · 19/06/2014 22:49

I also love Murdo for a boy and Gabriel but DH is unconvinced....

FlipFantasia · 20/06/2014 03:27

Love the names chat! We love Finbarr for a boy but are stuck on a girl's one (current short list is Cliodhna, Eimear, Ailbhe - DH likes Aine but one of my oldest friends is called that and it might be a bit much). All Irish btw.

So I'm off to see a bugaboo cameleon tomorrow I saw on out local Facebook selling site. Anyone have one? It's a great deal (only $100 and includes a bassinet). I reckon I'll end up with it as I want a lie flat option, as well as something to attach a car seat to (with my second baby I just carried her until she was big enough to go into the maclaren and then kept the sling underneath for when DS, then 2.5, would get tired from walking). This time, with the preschool run, a car seat adapter may be more practical (I am so convincing myself to get it!).

It's also funny to hear of everyone winding down, work wise, as I'm off tomorrow morning to meet some literary agents who want me to work as a consultant for them. Totally happy for me to work from home, whatever hours I like etc. The office is less than half a mile from my house. I am unbelievably excited about the prospect! I can't believe this opportunity has landed in my lap (was not looking for it but too good to turn down!).

But I remember well the countdown to maternity leave...I also definitely don't miss the underground (and am glad that I don't have to commute into NYC either! Much as I love being close to NYC, the summer heat kills me).

FlipFantasia · 20/06/2014 03:31

I also really like Murdo and also Mungo (I did my undergrad at Aberdeen and knew an absolutely lovely Mungo). And Magnus is great. I also like Ramsey.

Lillemor is a lovely tribute to your mum Yellow. My DS is named after my late father.

Kirstipops · 20/06/2014 06:24

Sounds like a great opportunity Flip! Maybe I should have mentioned that I don't particularly enjoy my job when I'm NOT pregnant anyway so excitement of preggoness and time off was always gonna be a distraction!!

ohthegoats · 20/06/2014 06:46

My boyfriend doesn't want to be called dad, he's going for his name. I don't think any variation on mum and dad are a problem at school. I've got a few kids in my class who call their parents their names, or foreign versions of mum and dad.

In reality, once they get to 8+ they call you whatever they like, you don't get much choice!

Loulou888 · 20/06/2014 07:26

I have a Jessica and a Harry. We like Freddie, Ronnie, Charlie I prefer traditional names. However we can't decide or like many girls names. I don't mind Lilly but that's about all.

mrsb87 · 20/06/2014 07:41

Names wise we have Rufus, Dylan or Eli or a boy but the girls name is set on Theadora. I had chosen it before I was even pregnant and it turns out it was FIL 's mums middle name!

Me23 · 20/06/2014 07:45

mrs Eli (Elijah) was our choice for a boy. We were set on Isla but now it's in the top ten names list we're not sure.

ohthegoats · 20/06/2014 07:58

We have three girl's options to choose from - any combination would be fine. We don't really have any boy's names yet. A couple are 'alright', but no obvious standouts.

As well as work countdown, I woke up this morning thinking about how much I'd like to be involved in some sort of cocktail hour this evening. So, it's booze countdown as well. 26 weeks this weekend, so in theory it could be anything from 10 - 16 weeks until I can have a martini. Sob, that seems like an awfully long time. Whilst also being terrifyingly short.

STIGZ · 20/06/2014 09:04

goats im also feeling like i need some alcohol soon! I was at a funeral yesterday .,, sun was shining & booze was flowing, my mouth was actually watering !!

Im in the process of moving house so feeling rather stressed & miss my wine as thats how i would unwind & relax when dd goes to my mums on a friday :( .,, i suppose my liver will be doing a victory dance at being a virgin again (",)

Georgebythesea · 20/06/2014 09:54

I've been off work with very bad pregnancy sickness since week 7 and have actually really been missing it(I'm a nanny).I wasnt able to do much at all until a few weeks ago..now at least I can read pregnancy/birth books/go for walks/lunches/knit etc.I'm somewhat better then I was but still not better enough to go and look after other people's toddlers unfortunately. Its a nightmare financially but can at least appreciate being off work now a bit more and start to make more constructive use of my time!

sazzlehopes · 20/06/2014 10:31

Why do people have to be so rude and have such strong opinions on baby names. It really annoys me, I always think the key phrase is when they say "oooh I don't like that much" yes exactly - YOU don't like it, but I do and that is what matters. If you like it fine say so, if not please keep opinions to yourself on such a personal and sensitive choice! Don't just brush it off straight away! Stigz i'm soooo intrigued now by your name choice!

I told my mum I liked Ernst and she pulled such a face and said yes but they'd be called Ernie for short, and I said I know EXACTLY!!!! I like Ernie too. I'm keeping my names from her this time.... But I'm not afraid to share them with you lot if you want to hear!!

I think the thing with the parents is they associate the name with something from their generation and that doesn't matter because the baby is born into a different generation. So I've had friends call their girls Coco, and all the older generation say is "Oh like Coco the Clown, terrible choice" I'm like what who?? No.

binkybunny · 20/06/2014 11:03

when I told my mum about our chosen boy name of Joshua Paul she told me we couldn't have Paul as my PITA Uncle would think he was named after him! We have quite a heated conversation about how it was my baby and I would name him/ her what I wanted Angry

Anyway, we are having a girl so unless we change our mind when we see her it will be Isabella Francine. Because we like Isabella and Francine is after DH grandma who died 2 years ago.

Sazzle thanks for the Zara link, my parents have just given us some money to spend on the baby so have bought a few bits for next summer. Just couldn't resist some of those clothes!

mum2kiss · 20/06/2014 11:05

I like unusual, but not crazy, names. I'm also hung up on name meanings so we've chosen names that mean something nice as well as being uncommon.

FlipFantasia · 20/06/2014 11:06

Sazzle I agree! Folks should just nod & smile about names - not really their business! But then folks should also just say how marvellous a pregnant woman looks and not say 'tiny bump/huge bump/you're massive' etc...the annoying side of pregnancy! Btw I really like Ernst/Ernie.

Me I really like Isla - one of my NCT friends in London called her second that. It's popular for a reason! Realistically, I doubt you'd even necessarily meet another one (I mean, I've met only a couple of Jacks over the years and it's been a top name for years - again, is can see why as it's a cool name!). Also my name was quite common (starts with a C but can also be spelled with a K and is what price William's wife is called) and I always had several in each class/school year/job and it's not been a problem for me. How about Iona? Or Isis? A lovely name even if sadly now linked to those crazies taking over Iraq...

George what a nightmare you're still so sick. Glad you can do little bits here and there but it must be rubbish.
