J200 I have told Dh I'm pleased this will be our last baby as I'm not sure I can cope with doing it again. We had ds1 then a mc at 7 weeks then this pg. If I'd not had the mc so recently or if it had been before ds1 I think I'd be more relaxed now, but who can say for sure? Maybe I'm just a natural born worrier until the 20 week scan. Somehow even the 12w scan isn't enough to satisfy me that everything is ok with baby. With ds1 I didn't buy anything until after the 20w scan although I was classed as low risk and there are no hereditary or age factors. I think the majority of women still have a doubt at the scan room that they'll find nothing there. Even if justa fleeting worry.

Off topic but I really fancy a bacon sarnie for dinner, anyone else?

10+2

blizy · 18/06/2014 18:57

Mini, I won't stop worrying until the baby is placed screaming in my arms, then it will be a whole new set of worries, it's just never ending!

blizy · 18/06/2014 18:57

Oh, I just had a bowl of Special K for dinner.

Minibagel · 18/06/2014 19:00

Never ending. Exactly. I got upset the other day imagining what I'd do if my ds1 married someone who didn't like me. He isn't even 1! The worry never stops.

j200 · 18/06/2014 19:07

lol mini, cheered me up Wink

Haha J200 there are definitely good points to being pg for second or more times though! you know what's going on with your body more! I could tell with both subsequent pg that I'd conceived.

Hmm so having said that why did I do about 6 tests?

But also at mw appointments and the hospital, it's not as scary.

Minibagel · 18/06/2014 19:37

I have a question about antenatal classes. I didn't do nct with ds1 as I thought it was a rip off and I didn't want to be scared by horror stories. But now I am no longer scared by birth and have found it hard to make good mum friends, so I was thinking I might do them this time around. I have spoken to mw and she runs a local free class too which would be good as we have moved areas since ds1. Is it still a waste of money to go to nct as well? I basically inky want it from a social point of view.

Any thoughts?

Minibagel · 18/06/2014 19:37

only not inky!

j200 · 18/06/2014 19:41

My friend (who is actually one of the nct babies i grew up with!) told me to def do at least one NCT class purely for the social side, she said it was worth the money to meet a good group of people in the area expecting at the same time, so i am signing up x

LulusMiniEgg · 18/06/2014 19:43

I'm also umm-ing and ahh-ing over nct. They are £400 in London and as I think we'll probably move whilst I'm on mat leave I'm not sure it's worth it. There are coffee mornings, baby groups run by them for after the birth that are free/cheap so might do that instead. It's a toughie.

That's my biggest fear about once the baby is here, I'll be really lonely. It's quite an ethnically diverse area and I'm worried about meeting like minded English speaking mums. But saying that my closest nct is not even in my area and is a really posh part of London so not sure I would have much in common with them either!

RPopz · 18/06/2014 19:44

I think I'll do some NCT if I can, as me and DH don't really have any family locally so would be good to build up a social network!!

Loobyloo893 · 18/06/2014 19:48

I didn't do an NCT antenatal course but did a postnatal one which was fab. Group of six mums with new babies so all going through same thing. Much cheaper than the antenatal one too and some of them are now my closest friends.
But I've also made lovely friends since having DS just going to baby gps. I think it's just a matter of luck. I know ppl who didn't get on with any of the ppl they met at NCT so personally I wouldn't do it purely to make friends.

rumisyum · 18/06/2014 19:56

Oh, such lovely happy scan news today! It's brilliant hearing about wriggly, hiccuping babies. Grin So pleased for you, Chinese and Monstamio!

Thanks for the words of wisdom madrigals. I've been worrying as well - it's hard not to be anxious I think! But I keep trying to just... trust. It's taken me 4 years to get here! Something good will work out, I need to believe that.

I can't remember who said about getting bigger as the day goes on - I weighed myself and I gain about half a stone by the end of the day! Shock Which then disappears the following morning, only to reappear in the evening. Bloating on an incredible scale.

Mini I'm totally signing up for whatever antenatal classes I can find, including NCT ones. I'm rubbish at making friends randomly, and if they will help me find fellow comrades in new motherhood, then I'm all for them. Smile

RPopz · 18/06/2014 20:18

Same here Rum - I start getting gradually fatter from about lunch time onwards! I swear in the shower on a night I have an actual bump!! But then by morning its gone down again. Why does pg make you so bloated??

KeepOnPloddingOn · 18/06/2014 20:34

Hi ladies. I didn't pay for nct classes, I just joined a local FBI group and went to baby groups and both have enabled me to make mummy friends. The Facebook page particularly. I joined it when pregnant and local mums met for coffee ( and mums to be) nearly all of us have made friends.

I would recommend even starting one up if you are looking to meet mummy mates for free? The support locally is invaluable I have found. I have other friends and I have my family - but my mummy mates have been wonderful :)

KeepOnPloddingOn · 18/06/2014 20:35
  • fb !! Not FBI ! nearly all of us have remained* friends / not 'made'
KeepOnPloddingOn · 18/06/2014 20:36

Sorry- just want to add I am all for nct classes! They just were a bit pricey for me at the time :)

ilovelamp78 · 18/06/2014 20:37

It's been a day of lovely news in here today!!
Still waiting for my scan date... Postbox checking has become my latest obsession. Nothing.

Had a voicemail off the midwife ...ooooo interesting I thought. Nope, she was just phoning to say my blood tests were ok but my iron is low and there's a prescription for me to pick up. The wait continues.....

In the meantime, I'm crossing fingers for more good news from you ladies!

Re: NCT - I used to be a local volunteer for the NCT in my area before I started working full time again and used to organise the first get-together for brand-new mums within the same month and postcode. I know there were several 2nd+ time mums who didn't do the NCT classes again but asked the local coordinator to be put on my list so I would contact them and they would be included in the mailing list. Of course, they were paying members of the NCT charity (otherwise seems a bit cheeky) but it is probably worth checking with your local coordinator!

I know there are also sometimes refresher classes for parents who already have children - but that's probably mainly in really busy parts of the country.

Finally, any first time mums wondering whether to do it or not: our experience was very positive because our teacher was great - very honest, didn't sugar-coat anything and certainly not a hippy. We have also made excellent friends and my girls' group was an absolute god-sent for the first 3 months of motherhood, which I found incredibly tough.

Sorry this is long, I hope some find it helpful!

I've already pencilled places on NCT and a water birth course. I have a close friend who teaches hypnobirthing and am going to do sessions with her too. I want/need ALL the info!!!! Also because
I'm doing this solo I'm hoping to meet other mums in my area for a bit of support and sharing

So I've just looked into NCT refresher but can't find any. Well, not under that name anyway. My area seems to have 'premium' course and 'basic' - is basic what I want?

RPopz · 18/06/2014 21:27

They are called refreshers - I've seen them advertised for my area.
