Best of luck today Peace.

It's lovely seeing all the scan pics. I've just got my 20 week scan date for 18 July and am officially in the second trimester now, it seems to be going so fast!

I am contemplating finding out the gender this time, I definitely didn't want to when I had ds so not sure why I'm considering it now. Did anyone else find out in one pregnancy but not another?

As for bio oil, I used it twice a day when pregnant with ds and got no stretch marks, which surprised me as I got lots during puberty. I've started using it again now. I think I used two or three bottles, so it wasn't massively expensive, and it definitely helped with itchy belly issues too.

Lying on side/back...when are we meant to start not lying on our backs? I tried it last night and am now in agony. Every part of me aches!

lisa my dates jumped nearly 2 weeks forward, which was actually kinda cool. And now I'm due tge day after you

Hi all

Am so jealous of all the lovely scan pics from yesterday they are so clear. Mine looks like an alien Sad am hoping to get a better one at the 20 week scan which is on 22 July.

Good luck today with your appt peace, let us know how you get on.

Cat, I'm quite happy that they have brought me forward to the 6th as it means there is no chance I will be giving birth over Christmas as the latest they will let me go is the 20th so will have my Christmas present early I don't want anything else.

I am going to book my NCT classes today, was waiting to get the scan done to make sure everything was ok. They do get booked up really quickly. My sis did them with her first and she made some really good friends and that's the reason I am signing up for them as someone else said most of what they tell you is common sense.

Have told the girls I used to work with (I moved departments in January) this morning and they were all really pleased for me, it seems strange telling people I'm pregnant now that I've kept it secret for so long!! Grin

LisaC2611 · 05/06/2014 12:07

Oh Cat, you're not meant to lie on your back after 16 weeks so you should be ok for a bit.

ffallada · 05/06/2014 13:44

Thanks lisa, you've reminded me about the other question I had for miraculous! (Congrats on the twin btw)
((On a side note my hubby wasn't available to come to the scan so I took my mum. I noticed on the form the stenographer had written 'singleton' and immediately got a bit peeved that my marital status should be assumed and that it needed to be written down. Took me a long moment to realise she ment a single baby as opposed to twins! Doh!))
Have you been offered antenatal classes miraculous? I can't decide wether to go for the NTC ones or not. The midwife mentioned that the current lot of NHS ones have been discontinued in Glasgow and they have no current plans for more. Although they probably will have ones sorted by November. Just wondered if you had had the same story not that I don't trust the 14 year old midwife

nickyjlees · 05/06/2014 14:44

Loving all the scan pics!
Quick question, I've signed up for an aquanatal class but they've asked for a docs note just to say I'm ok to do the class as I use an inhaler. Just rang the surgery and they said the doc will charge me £15 for a note, is that normal?!

LisaC2611 · 05/06/2014 14:51

Nicky, unfortunately that is normal, they can charge you anything they like and 15 is quite "reasonable" in terms of what I have heard other surgeries charge. I wouldn't mind, it takes all of 30 seconds to put their signature on a pre-prepared letter and they have the cheek to charge for it!!

nickyjlees · 05/06/2014 15:07

Wow! I'd never heard of that before :(

tillymonster · 05/06/2014 17:40

ooh, can I share my scan pic? Baby was doing handstands (after a lot of wiggling to wake it up). They've put us forward by 5 days, so not as extreme as some, now EDD 4th Dec, and I'm in week 14! We've started referring to baby as "he" but don't really have a good reason for it...

Does anyone know anything about "nub theory"? My friend mentioned it the other day - is it just a lot of guesswork?

Lovely scan pictures ladies! Mine's not until 17 June which seems like ages away :(

Don't really have much to contribute at the moment I'm afraid; still having MS and have a banging headache this evening, and I appear to have a huge bump as well! It is getting difficult to hide this now...

Hi all

Its so lovely seeing everyone's scan pictures. Can't believe how many were little wrigglers too - mine must've been fast asleep, it barely moved a muscle!

Giggling at the bum stories. I got piles at the end of my pg with ds, thank the lord I delivered by section or who knows what state bum would have been in! I still needed lactulose anyway - 1st poo after cs is also pretty scary due to wrecked stomach muscles & trapped wind issues - think it took about 4 days for me to go! Oh the joys eh?!

isambardo - are you me?! My 20 week scan is also on 18th July. Am also contemplating finding out this time - didn't last time but need to sort out revised sleeping arrangements for ds (stupid layout of our house means one bedroom is off the other) so could really do with knowing, as I'd prefer to get everything organised before birth rather than try & do it afterwards. Plus if its team pink this time it'll give me time to get rid of all ds' baby clothes etc.

I also used bio oil last time. I wasn't sure how effective it'd be since stretch marks seem to run in the family, & I already had loads from my teens. I had none right up until 2 weeks pre-birth, then I got some very tiny ones, which never went red, just ended up like tiny little puckers in my skin. So I think I got off pretty lightly really Smile

Catface - think its around 15 weeks that you're meant to stop laying on your back. I really struggled with that last time, would start off on my side but wake up on my back. Frankly, the further on you get the more uncomfortable it gets, no matter what the position!

I'm having an awful lot of pain at the bottom of my back at the mo, sort of where my coccyx(sp?) is, started off feeling like sciatica but now just generally aches. Its hurting all day long esp. when I bend, or get on the floor to play with ds, or walk...... Been googling & think it might be pgp Sad. Not sure if its something I should just be expected to put up with since its a pg ailment, or if I should take a trip to see the GP Hmm

espa · 05/06/2014 21:04

Reassurance please... Is it normal to get really bloated after eating when you are pg? Like looking like I have a 6 month belly bloated!

Pepsiaddict · 05/06/2014 21:15

Yup, I was thinking earlier this week that I wasn't showing yet but over the last few days have a bigger stomach than I did at 20 weeks last time! Def worse after eating and in the evening.

Am on the fybogel :-( my advice for first timers is to preempt constipation and be quite aggressive in avoidance and treatment - another one who's bum hasn't recovered after their last pregnancy. The joys!

mopsytop · 05/06/2014 21:25

Onama sounds suspiciously like PGP. I have similar pain but mine is just to left a bit. Gets worse from walking or lifting anything (which is hard to avoid as I have a two year old) and also hard to get out of bed. I rang my midwife and got referred to physio so you should try do the same maybe? Had it last time but it wasn't this bad until 8 months so I'm worried it will get worse. Physio last time not that helpful. There's not much you can do except sometimes wear a girdle, avoid spreading your legs (!) and rest up. It goes away after you've had baby after a few weeks usually.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 05/06/2014 21:33

Ughh Fybogel is horrible. Leave it too long it's like orange frogspawn. A necessary evil.

I have a shit day tomorrow. I have a tenants meeting where lots of people shout at me about things I have no control over. I might cry. Then I have to tell my boss about the baby. If they are going to let me go at the end of my probation Id rather know about it so I can look for a job. I think my boss is going to go apeshit.

mopsytop · 05/06/2014 21:47

BigHairy when's your probation end? Obviously they are not legally allowed to terminate your contract because you're pregnant so unless they had a very plausible reason why probation not okay they couldn't. But if they are the types to try can you keep mum until probation up? If you move you'll lose out on full mat pay.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 05/06/2014 22:03

I am on a years contract with a six month probation. I have seven or eight weeks to go before probation is up. I'm 13 weeks now. I will never hide it. I am on my feet a lot, deal with vulnerable people and difficult situations on a daily basis, and deal with a lot of stress and an enormous workload inherited from my boss, half of which makes no sense. I deal with emergency situations a lot which sometimes diverts me from my regular and unattainable workload. There are things that havent been done (as there were when he did this job). If they are
going to be arseholes and try and find excuses to let me go after my probation is up in order to not pay me maternity they will find them. I would rather know they aint planning on keeping me so I have as much time as possible to find a temp job, work my ass off and save some money...

Gah its such bad timing. In middle of a part time masters too. Stress!

mopsytop · 05/06/2014 22:19

Ugh is SO annoying and unfair bighairy :(

PolytheneGirl · 05/06/2014 22:30

BigHairy when I fell pg with DS I was on a 12 month contract with BCC. I'd just been told verbally that my contract was being renewed but after I told my manager I was pg I received a letter saying my contract wasn't being renewed, giving me a months notice. I was devastated but in the long run I'm glad. I've had a great time being a SAHM to DS and now I'm doing childminding at home. I'm glad I didn't have to go back to work there! Really, really glad Grin

CatFaceCrayola · 05/06/2014 23:18

I'm currently seriously considering being a SAHM, although I'm not sure how it will affect my mat pat or if I have to tell my boss.

the cost of childcare would leave me with very little money anyway and part of me thinks a) surely being home with mum is best for the kid and b) they grow up so fast and I don't want to miss it all.

was considering that maybe I could do child minding so I'd still be earning something

so many decisions...

miraculous2 · 05/06/2014 23:28

Hi folks,

ffallada I asked about antenatal classes at my 12 week appointment because I'd been told to get it sorted early since the twins will come early. MW told me I had ages and this was no time to be worrying about that. But I have zero info, except there's a booking form in my preggo pack from the PRM and I don't even understand what the options are. I'm going to ask the consultant on Monday when I'm in at the twins clinic because it's bugging me a bit that I know nothing. 8-O at the NHS cancelling them!

I'm also hoping to get a place on a TAMBA one, which might serve a similar purpose to what people are describing they got out of the NCT ones, except I'd meet parents of multiples. I think they cost a lot less in Scotland too.

I started this post about an hour ago and got totally distracted because the little charity I work for just won a MASSIVE award at some fancy ceremony! Woohoo! Want champagne :/

13+4 and also shockingly huge in the evenings (thank god someone said that - I did wonder if it was just me)

CallingAllEngels · 06/06/2014 06:59

I think I would really struggle being a SAHM. I found it quite isolating when on ML with DS, especially being an expat so none of my family around and have slowly been building friendships the last 7 years but it's hard work. I was so ready to go back to work at the end with DS (he was 4 and a half months, which is actually a lot later than most Dutch mums...standard is to go back when dc are 3 months. I used parental leave to extend).

Plus I love my job. And I love DS but he is the most unfuriating toddler! I only work part time though so get 2 days at home with him, and DH stays at home one day as well. All parenst in the Netherlands have the right to pardntal leave so DH has worked 4 days a week since DS was a few months old and he'll carry on with that once DC2 is born.

ImBrian · 06/06/2014 07:24

Wow these threads go so fast!

I'm A- it doesn't mean much just that you get a jab at 28 weeks and then after baby is born if it's +. The injection does sting a bit but it's not that bad. Much better then the alternative!

It's lovely seeing everyone's scan pictures, has anyone had a guess at what they're having using the nub theory? I'm still not sure either way so we're having a scan either on Wednesday or next Saturday to see what sex is :)

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 06/06/2014 07:26

I'd happily be a sahm. As long as DP did his bit when he got home to give me a break. I dont particularly like my job. Fell into it by accident.

Bloody DP has a late start this morning so is taking his time in the shower and has encroached on MY shower time!

I am so scared of today. Telling my boss is going to be very difficult. I would rather he say "right then yer not staying past probation" than use capability excuses that are not true.
