She also seems to be trying to make me feel bad for not going back to work at the end of maternity leave. Comments such as poor DH, having to go back to work when you're at home (well... if he could go through labour then he could have mat leave!), he'll have to be working long hours to cover my salary (err no, we'll just live off a lower income which we can afford to do!) and how she was straight back at work within a few months. that's good for her, I don't have to and this is our choice. Grrr... blood pressure rising again Angry

binkybunny · 09/06/2014 15:19

Mrsb you are very lucky and I envy you!

LondonJen · 09/06/2014 15:50

Ah I do enjoy the MIL bashing tho I feel sorry for each of your woes.

My MIL will be staying here in 3 weeks. They are on their way to a wedding so that gives her opp to chastise us as we are unmarried heathens. Then -I bet you a million£- she will see what we have bought/been given (the basics) and declare their is nothing left for her to purchase.

Her latest thing is that we are "lazy" because we do the big food shop online and have it delivered. The judgement includes comments about how expensive the delivery cost must be (despite being told it's free) as if her drive to the shop is supplied by the petrol fairies Hmm

mum2kiss · 09/06/2014 15:53

Yes yes yes! There are more interfering mils out there! Lol!

Bunks mine keeps telling me that once the baby is born I'll have to work 2 jobs to.make ends meet...erm no I won't!

I don't get why they offer to buy things and then the instant you tell then what you want they start talking shit!

I'm leaning get towards the idea of the city mini with carry cot for parent facing...but I'm still not sure! The rebel in me wants to go out and blow a grand on a bugaboo or a stokke and then be like "now you want to talk about wasting money?!" Just a shame that I don't have a grand to blow lol!

mum2kiss · 09/06/2014 15:57

LOL @ petrol fairies!!

My dad is the king of sharing unwanted opinions. He never bought Dd a thing when she was born..didn't even offer...but he had a whole mouthful of advice about how to raise a kid and how I was doing it wrong!

mum2kiss · 09/06/2014 15:58

Just arrived home to a sparkling kitchen by the way ;)

LondonJen · 09/06/2014 16:00

ldt87 I have got

Moses basket & Bouncy chair thing (already have from nephew staying)

A new moses basket mattress
2 fitted sheets for above
2 blankets (1 for pram, 1 for bed)
A sleeping bag (if it's big enough)
A swaddle blanket (to see if it likes it)
2 changing mats (one for upstairs one for down)
Starter set (sleepsuits, bodysuits, scratch mitts, hat)
2 x 3 packs of baby grows (1x 1 month, 1 x 0-3 months)
2 x 5 packs of body suits (1 x short sleeve, 1 x long sleeve)
A top and tail tub
A toy box
Pram
Car seat and base
DP bought baby a teddy bear (I still go to mush when I think of that!)

Most of these things I purposefully bought so that my MIL can not buy me things not to my taste Grin

I will tell her she can buy baby towels (no-one will see those) and a thermometer! And a baby monitor if she's feeling flush Wink

I don't intend to get much else before arrival. We're not getting a cot or anything until it needs it. Unless I have a nesting urge before then that is!

ohthegoats · 09/06/2014 16:28

Haha, compared to you lot, we're being left quite alone. I'm the last one on my side to breed, so really quite dull, and they know I'm a bolshy cow who will get everything from ebay anyway. Parents are buying a cot, but we're not going to do that until Christmas anyway, so no need for that to happen.

His parents though, I'm not sure yet. They are three hours away, which helps, but they aren't really the interfering kind, and if they were being like that, boyfriend wouldn't tell me. I don't speak with them on the phone or anything (not for any nefarious reason, just don't have that sort of relationship with them).

We've both lived abroad a lot, so I think maybe both our sets of parents are used to not being too involved in lots of our decisions.

I've still bought nothing for a baby, but my spreadsheet list is all ready to go once I've got space for stuff, and once I start collecting on the loan promises!

ohthegoats · 09/06/2014 16:30

Oh, and after having about 5 days of really being kicked about the bladder, the baby has hardly moved over the last day or so at all. So now instead of worrying about it moving too much, I'm worrying about it not moving enough. No happy medium.

fatpony · 09/06/2014 16:50

Re the sleeping on the back thing, I had an antenatal yoga class with a very experienced teacher (30 years plus) last week and she said don't worry too much about it until you are quite far along. She said basically you can start feeling faint etc but if that happens in your sleep your body will just naturally wake you up and you'll turn to one side. I hope she is right as I love sleeping on my back and it feels so much nicer than side!

fedupofrainydays · 09/06/2014 17:13

Do you think we will end up being interfering MILs?! I suspect so even tho I will endeavour not to be!! Already dreading the phase when ds thinks I'm really uncool!

fedupofrainydays · 09/06/2014 17:15

Grin at petrol fairies!!

mum2kiss · 09/06/2014 17:15

Thus little peanut has been jumping all over my bladder recently! Gives me that "have to pee right now" sensation with every kick!

My friend offered to lend me her icandy today. At first I thought great and then she said she's kept it for future babies and I started to Worry that if something happens to it whilst in my care I'll owe her an £800 buggy!

ldt87 · 09/06/2014 17:15

Oh god Londonjen, I feel so unprepared! I've got clothes, a pack of nappies, pack of wipes, nappy cream, a swinging crib with no mattress or bedding, a baby gym and a sling!

Before he comes i need my travel system, crib set up, bedding, more nappies, wipes, monitor bath stuff, probably a cot and all the stuff to go with it etc. Basically all the expensive stuff! Very stressed lol xx

mum2kiss · 09/06/2014 17:16

fedup I have already vowed never to be so overbearing and also to warn my Dd off of first born sons!!

fedupofrainydays · 09/06/2014 17:17

Oh and disposable bibs are great!!! Really useful when eating out so you don't have to take home a dirty one / find somewhere to clean your plastic one when trying to juggle everything else!

ldt87 · 09/06/2014 17:17

Mum2 unfortunately this is why I wouldn't borrow things. I offer to buy but if people want them back i would rather find things elsewhere. I know some funny buggers though and can't be doing with the hassle of things not being mine xx

fedupofrainydays · 09/06/2014 17:18

mum2 your dd better not come near my ds tho!! Although I'm really not the interfering type (she says!)

fedupofrainydays · 09/06/2014 17:19

I meant that as in he is a first born son not that I wouldn't want your dd near us!!

fedupofrainydays · 09/06/2014 17:21

Back on the buggy debate - I'm going ergo for when it's small and baby jogger for when can cope with it being non parent facing!! I'm sure this will change next wk bit this is my latest plan!!

LondonJen · 09/06/2014 17:50

ldt87 I think you sound like you are on top of it! I have shopped mostly with my head so far (don't dare go in any baby shops in case I fall in love with it all!) and wanted to get bits in June so could save up for pram in July/Aug. It's only cos dp got all excitable at the weekend and ordered it with car seat that the big purchases can now be ticked off. I was a bit eek about that yesterday but now I am quite excited about the pram coming. Just don't like owing dp money!

Plenty of time to get things. And for me to decide what I have is not enough and get the credit card out Wink

That sounds good Fedup I liked the Mclaren but wanted a parent facing cot for the first while.

ldt87 · 09/06/2014 18:11

I would like to be done early Londonjen because even though a cot for example is not needed yet, both my girls birthdays are in December then Christmas so really would like to get it done xx

FlipFantasia · 09/06/2014 18:25

Love all the buggy talk!

I'm going to just sling it (ergo & newborn insert...though have bought a second hand moby wrap too) while the baby is small. If this winter is anything like last winter I won't be doing a huge amount of pushing a buggy around the frozen pavements in -20 temperatures anyway! Then once spring comes the baby can go into the maclaren. This worked with when dd was the baby and DS was 2. I love my maclaren - legacy of living in London and walking/tubing/bussing everywhere.

I am going to borrow a snap & go, which is what Americans seem to use in lieu of a travel system. They're not very stylish but seem v functional (you stick the car seat on it). It'll come in handy on school runs etc.

We do need to get a new car seat as we gave away our maxi cosi. But we need to get a bigger car first so I'll leave that until we manage the car!

Am in the midst of a tonne of painting. Hoping we finish this weekend - my wrists are aching and my bump (bigger at 22+5 than I remember being with the other two) is getting in the way!

Loulou888 · 09/06/2014 18:34

Anyone else struggling with humidity today? I'm watching my children's swimming lessons and absolutely sweltering. Help us come August!

pebble82 · 09/06/2014 18:43

Hello everyone! Sorry I seem to have been away for ages! I've got travel system, car seat, base and Moses basket with stand so far. Hoping to get cot and changing topper tomorrow. I was feeling all calm and organised until I found out we might have the opportunity to move house soon. My neighbour wants to buy my apartment so all being well we'll save on estate agent fees. Only trouble is I'm wondering if I'm mad to go through the stress of a house move late in pregnancy!

In other news I felt my little munchkin move (definitely) for the first time this weekend at 21+4. Think I'm a latecomer to the kicking party but feels amazing. Now of course I'm scrutinising everything and worrying she's not moving enough. Ah pregnancy will make me a nervous wreck soon!
