I didn't do anything in the nursery with my first until he was big enough to have developed a bit of his own style. Even then he just has wall stickers, lions and giraffes, and some matching bedding and a rug. He can have his room decorated to suit him more when he's bigger. Can't deal with multiple room changes when his tastes will change.

IMO nurserys are more about the parent than the child, do something that works for you in terms of a relaxing place to feed. Nothing too stimulating as you really want them to sleep, not get all excited. When they can tell you what they want, negotiate a theme or colour scheme that works.

MrsDinoRawr · 08/06/2014 08:40

loving all the nursery talk. can't see any photos though as i am on my phone. We moved in a year ago and decorated all of the rooms except for the kitchen, bathroom and conservatory. We painted the nursery mint green before we knew sex. We have some bunting and little boat canvases to hang up that we bought oh honeymoon. furniture arrived but we haven't built it yet. Will try to post a photo when it is done.

We are knocking down the conservatory today. The aim is to extend the kitchen into it and create a utility at the end of the garage with a downstairs wet room and toilet. Thinking that is quite a big project with 18 weeks until the due date! my dad owns a building company and my husband is a quantity surveyor so hoping that will help!!

Also just to moan... threw up all my dinner last night and have already been sick today. anyone else still being sick?

On a plus note... saw baby kick my belly so it moved a few times yesterday. I have a anterior placenta so not sure if other people can feel more by this point. but I am loving the wriggling and few kicks.

Me23 · 08/06/2014 08:42

No nursery here haven't had nursery for any of my kids. Just decorated their rooms when they were older. Baby will be in with is for approx 6 month then into share with Ds with dd1 moving to the smallest room as it's on a different floor and being 9 think she needs her own space.

I think I've narrowed my pushchair down to either the sola or babyjogger versa.

Anyone know the difference between the sola and sola city and sola mtx?

Oklahoma · 08/06/2014 09:03

Dino I'm still being sick every day. It's miserable isn't it?

Nursery talk is exciting. Ours is just a pale yellow from when we moved in and haven't really thought about what to do with it yet. I really need to get my arse in gear and start planning for this baby!!

MrsDino - that's essentially what we're doing too. Still waiting for planning, but hopefully that'll come in next week. Then we've got about 15 weeks. Hahahaaaaargh cry.

I reckon I'll be living in either a concrete/plaster shell with a washing machine and electric oven plugged in the corner, or at my mum's. Doesn't matter really, but still.

And yes bumpbang, the nursery décor is all about what I like - my favourite/very familiar things. I'm the one who will be noticing it at 3am!

ExcitedCJ · 08/06/2014 12:24

Goats & Dino we are about to put our house on the market to buy a renovation project that we will not have even started by the time the baby comes! It needs totally gutted a living extension built on with kitchen & living room, a new shower room & cloakroom built on too! I will either be living in a building site or have to move in with my Mum into her tiny wee cottage! I'm not sure we are wise! We have a lovely detached 4 bed house at the minute but we just don't like a couple of things about it, so hence planning a move. Good timing! :)

bumpbangbump · 08/06/2014 12:41

That's exactly it goats. Babies don't care but we do. Somewhere you can relax for night time feeds is essential...

Sorry to hear some of you are still feeling sick. I was like that won my first, but it did pass eventually. Hope you get some relief soon.

As for renovations... Wow! Hope you all get sorted in time. A least when you're inundated with visitors you can blame the mess on builders!

Wow I have a lot of admiration for the people doing renovations at this time, can't imagine going through that added stress!
Phew! Just got rid of a load of brambles in our garden and walked the dogs, I think that's enough for me today. Dh is now processing a load of wood ready for the winter . in sure there are other things I should be doing rather than sitting on my tush though!

ohthegoats · 08/06/2014 13:16

I've lived in building projects all my life - my parents do it for a living. My nephews are currently living in a huge building site, cos my brother is doing up a place, and our kid will be too I expect. The photos my brother is taking of the boys sitting in wheelbarrows and elbow deep in sand piles, are exactly the same as the ones we had taken we were kids too. Between the ages of 3 and 5 I lived in a tiny caravan on a building site (that my was parents first 'house from the ground up' project). I tend to feel a bit weird in a finished house (which I've only ever had for a year at a time here and there), although it's quite nice sitting down with no 'I should be sanding...' type guilt!!

Today I am wearing pre-pregnancy clothes as if I'm not pregnant at all. I really must remember to dress less like a bag lady once this baby is out.

fedupofrainydays · 08/06/2014 13:58

My ds is currently in a wheelbarrow of soil in our garden and has been trying to climb the scaffolding!! We seem to always choose to renovate / extend when I'm expecting! Although we were doing this extension this year whether on not I would conceive again and actually then carry baby to term after a horrible 2013.
Hot today so have put on some mat shorts (got loaned two seraphine ones by a friend) so makes a nice change from sweaty leggings or jeans!

Weighed myself - 1 stone 4 lbs put on. Eeeek. Sure it's mostly thigh! Blush

fedupofrainydays · 08/06/2014 14:10

Ps dino my husband is also a quantity surveyor so knows exactly what's going on - just me that doesn't!! Except the builders ask me questions when DH Isn't around and I hate that!!

tak1ngchances · 08/06/2014 14:19

Ouff. It's awful hot & sticky in London. I'm going into Waterloo now for my friend's baby shower. Yucky

I was a civil engineer before I was a teacher, but I can't remember a THING about engineering when I'm actually required to. Still, I did the last house renovation on my own, and it was alright.

Today this baby is kicking the hell out of my bladder, it's really uncomfy - if I can get through the day without a little bit of wee coming out unannounced I'll be amazed.

bumpbangbump · 08/06/2014 14:25

I wish w had someone on the family who could take control of a big project like that. I know we'd end up spending a fortune just because we didn't know any better!

LondonJen · 08/06/2014 16:21

Glad to hear good things about the Sola!

Me23 only from what I recall on the M&P website the XTR was for offroad ( tho I don't know what makes it so technically speaking.) I only went for the original Sola (via Pramworld) as it was much cheaper than the Sola2 or the other Sola versions. The package we got is actually a Sola pram with a Sola2 carrycot.

Sorry to hear some people are still being sick Thanks

The only essential items I can think of in our nursery are the rocking chair, thermometer and the touch lamp which allows you to dim the light various degrees just by knackeredly swatting the base when you stagger in half conscious at 4am rather than finding a switch. A dim light is a godsend. I'm blind without my contacts in - hence didn't decorate the room even for me

kirsti I went to the Studio Ghibli museum when we visited Tokyo 3 years ago, childless and carefree, bought loads of pens etc but not a single thing for a nursery apart from a plush Catbus! Would love to go on a nursery spending spree in Tokyo now Grin

DS will be in a bednest/co-sleeper thingy for the first few months (really wish I had had one for DD) and will inherit the green nursery with animal wall stickers when DD gets her "big girl's bedroom" for Xmas. Nursery had a fabulous tree wall sticker with leaves and flowers and animals, however the quality was rubbish and the tree trunk and branches fell off, leaving all the leaves behind. I've since painted the tree on with a brown tester pot!

We're planning an extension so I'll come back nearer the time for tips on sterilising stuff amid a building site Confused

Me23 · 08/06/2014 19:35

Another studio ghibli fan here, my daughter loves them too. We would love t

Me23 · 08/06/2014 19:37

Sorry posted by accident! Would love to go Tokyo with dd.

London does the sola have air filled tyres? In the m&p shop I know the mpx does but insure if sola or sola city did too?

YellowWellies · 08/06/2014 20:01

The original sola has solid tyres rather than inflated ones.
