Everyone on my Facebook timeline is complaining that it's raining today - I feel super miserable but am so so relieved it's not hot today and I can actually breathe Grin

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 15/06/2014 11:23

Am the same hayley Grin. Nursery finished so we are going to do the car seat today and go throught the hospital bags so DH knows what is in them.

Anyone else got weird cravings? Didn't think I would but at 37 +4 I am suddenly craving prawn crackers. My poor DH just had to go and get some for me. He also came back with flowers, but only carnations which I absolutely loathe.... Hmm

I have a constant back ache so can't use that as an indicator of early labour unfortunately and the clear mucus show has stopped so I assume that was more to do with the babys head engaging than anything else.

Annoying as I so want this baby out now!!!

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy · 15/06/2014 11:33

Good morning.

Congratulations to Ellie

I'm supposed to be having a sleep at the moment while DH is out with DS but I'm having a cheeky MN session instead! I was feeling sick earlier with a few contractions too, but some salt and vinegar crisps has stopped the nausea so I think I was just hungry.

Having forgotten what an arse baby clothes are to hang up to dry I had also forgotten what a pain they are to fold up and sort into different sizes!

Going to try and sleep now.

BlueC2 · 15/06/2014 12:33

So had more (and worse) dizzy spells this morning and feel v sick so now in triage- urine fine, BP fine but I feel awful! Hoping to get some answers!

AuntieMaggie · 15/06/2014 13:42

Oh no blue hope you're ok

BlueC2 · 15/06/2014 13:54

All tests have come back fine, they think it's vertigo so can't do anything at all to help :( not supposed to drive which is a real pain and going to have to see if childminder can have DS for an extra day tomorrow if I'm not feeling any better.

One thing I did find out though is that the only rooms with access to the birthing pool are currently shut as they're the last to be refurbished so it has given me a boost in my home water birth plans as I'd been dithering a bit about it all.

museumworker · 15/06/2014 13:55

bluec2 - hope you feel better soon!

Congrats Ellie!

Apologies about posting and running - DS has nap and I need to get some rest in before he awakes!

Had another scan on Friday and they found that yes, the baby's abdominal circumference and my fluid levels are both above the 95th per centile. I have a GTT tomorrow now as managed to move it forward.

I also discovered (from test I had done after being concerned about the jelly like discharge) that I have Group B Strep so need to go in as soon as waters go/labour starts to go on IV antibiotics. This means I can't go to my planned low risk mid-wife led unit, which I am v upset about. I can hopefully go to a midwife led unit at the hospital though, as long as no other problem factors.

Anyone have GBS/advice on Gestational diabetes?

ZingWhale · 15/06/2014 16:51

hello all, NC is in order as I'm 8 months pg today. yay!

And of course an apology for neglecting all of you. Blush
It's been now 3 weeks that we are in new house and none of us is missing the old one!
It's been stressful though with finding it difficult to get organized and finding a place for everything (especially in the kitchen) and getting used to our new morning routine.
But we are getting there, bathroom is now fully functional, kids' bedrooms are sorted, only have about 8 boxes left to sort in living room (rest in garage, so out of sight) and we really love it here already!
The garden is fantastic! despite the heat I haven't felt hot yet. on wed I was sitting in the shade & breeze and had goose bumps! so bring on summer, I'll be fine!

The only thing that makes things difficult is that I have now joined the club of those who suffer from PGP. I have had it, all the way, getting worse in the last moth - just didn't know it was PGP!
last Friday I was in such bloody agony for hours I ended up in the hospital to get checked.
Now I can no longer do shopping, push a pushchair, lift or carry things or bend down & up without risking pain. It's really frustrating as I have loads to do still before baby arrives (both finishing house stuff, then starting to get ready for baby)

but I have now organised help with school runs and MrZing does almost everything, so I can rest, especially in the evenings.
It's not easy right now to look after the kids when on my own, and the condition will just get worse until baby is born, but older ones started to get that I just can't do things and are more willing to help.
smile

Hope you are all ok, I'll try and catch up and be more present!

ZingWhale · 15/06/2014 16:53

Just read back a bit - Ellie massive congratulations Thanks, hope you and baby are doing ok!

icklekid · 15/06/2014 17:22

Oh dear blue sounds nasty but also a bit familiar Sad I'm not too dizzy now but have felt sick all day- not helped by fact I am obsessed with everything being clean at the moment, however whenever I bend down I am sick. Cleaning the bathroom is like a downward spiral at the moment as you can imagine!

museum I have no knowledge to share I'm afraid but hope you do manage to get in the midwife led unit at hospital...

My friend had her baby 2 weeks ago and got to have a proper catch up this morning. She had a goid labour- water birth no pain relief (not even gas&air!) However was felt in a corridor before admitted onto labour ward despite her dh saying that she was in active labour regular contractions etc - I would be upset if that happened but I guess as everything else went well should focus on the positive! Shes struggling to get baby to latch and a bit overwhelmed by so many different peoples different advice, can imagine it's going to be hard work but her babys putting on weight so she must be doing something right Smile

Right going to put feet up to try and reduce swelling and perhaps have a nap...

icklekid · 15/06/2014 17:26

Welcome back zing glad you are all settled and happy! Hope older dc start helping more, my pgp is better some days than others- can you see a physio? Make the most of days you can stand without pain but most importantly rest when it hurts. If you do too much recovery is so long its just not worth it. Glad your not suffering from heat whats the secret???

Casmama · 15/06/2014 20:50

Congratulations MrsC and Ellie, hope the baby is out of the NICU soon.

I just spent about an hour and a half in maternity assessment as this little monkey has been really quiet for the last day or two. Needless to say about half an our into the montoring he woke up and started kicking away! Worth it for the reassurance though.

AuntieMaggie · 15/06/2014 21:43

Has anyone else hired a tens machine? I'm getting confused about the options!

Casmama · 15/06/2014 21:47

I bought the elle tens machine for my first pregnancy and got to 10cm dilated with it and a couple of co-dydramol despite it being a back to back labour so can highly recommend it.

Not sure about hiring options but I think it was about £50 to buy and my SIL used it for her labour and subsequently for back pain so was worth the money IMO.

AuntieMaggie · 15/06/2014 22:38

Thanks casamama that's the one I was looking at!

I may have said this before but with all my whining about taking codeine for spd and effect on baby after what gp said the mws were advising those in early labour to take it (co-dydramol) when I was in the assessment unit! And my drug chart had me signed off for 60mg if I need it!

GrouchyKiwi · 15/06/2014 22:43

I borrowed a TENS machine from one of my friends. Used it in early labour (I think it was early; my labour was pretty short) and I HATED it. It made me even grouchier than I was already. It was one from Boots.

Plateofcrumbs · 15/06/2014 23:20

I got a second hand Elle TENS machine on ebay - that reminds me I must figure out how it works!

Slightly exhausted after our kitchen blitz but the whole room now has a much-needed fresh lick of paint, new wall units and most importantly a huge new fridge/freezer and a microwave! We'd been planning to muddle through until we do a proper job (probably an extension next year) but I'm sooo glad we've done something to it now. Storing expressed milk would have been practically impossible with the old fridge and not having a microwave would have been a gigantic pita. Also I can now do some pre-baby batch cooking. Next step - nursery!

BlueC2 · 15/06/2014 23:34

auntie I think they gave me some when I was in early labour with DS. The MWs seem generally much more relaxed about it than GPs who just seem to go into a state of paralysis when they realise you're pregmant and are suddenly incapable of prescribing much useful. I have to go to docs tomorrow to check if I have any kind of ear infection which couldve set off the vertigo but really not expecting doc to be much use!

plate that's an impressive transformation for a weekend! We desperately need a new kitchen - I did a temp paint job on the units to go from dark green to cream before Christmas but our fridge freezer is in the garage as can only fit an under counter fridge in the kitchen at the moment and I just can't get in there properly now which is a real pain! Hoping to release some equity later in the year to convert the garage/redo the kitchen and I can't wait!!

zing so glad you're settling in well though sorry to hear about the PGP.

I haven't had a dizzy spell since midday and did nap this afternoon but still don't feel right and now can't sleep! Heartburn really playing up this evening too!

mummytobejuly2014 · 15/06/2014 23:43

in bed roasted like a lobster. was too lazy/never occurred to me to put suncream on (despite being a redhead & whiter than white) slapping on the aloe vera to chest & arms. also had a few big glasses of water. feeling cross i let myself get burnt. anywho oh is getting nursery shipshape - just to put carpet back down, get walls papered & build furniture. wow 2 babies already! :) little dude is crushing ribs on my right at the mo, no amount of encouragement is shifting him

BlueC2 · 16/06/2014 01:09

Still wide awake - grrr! I had been sleeping a bit better and now wonder if my lack of afternoon naps had helped as I did nap again today and now still awake!

mummy I seem to be much more sensitive to the sun at the moment, think pregnancy just makes your skin more sensitive-keep hydrated and lathered in aftersun!

justhayley · 16/06/2014 04:20

Welcome back Zing Smile it's not the easiest trying to unpack when pregnant. We moved 6/7 weeks ago and I'd love to get everything how I want it before baby arrives. Doesn't help that DP has been abroad for the majority of the time since we've moved so iv been doing most of it on my own. Now have the added pressure of turning my what will be a dinning / playroom, from a let's close the door and ignore all the boxes room, into a room that's pretty clear and calm that I can have my home birth in. Midwife doing a home visit in 2 weeks and they check you have a suitable space & know one will trip over anything etc - hhhmnnm that's definitely not my "dinning room" at the moment should be fun!

Blue hope your feeling a bit better, and the GP sorts you out.

Plate, wow that's serious nesting lol your welcome to come round to mine and transform my place any time you like Smile

I'm currently wide awake at 4amConfused initially woke up because of a stuffy hayfever nose so went downstairs and put some hot water and olbus oil in a bowl in my room which has sorted that problem out. Then once I got myself all comfy back in bed I realised that I'm actually really hungry. I refuse to go and start making food at this time - DS will be up in 2 hours or so so I'll get breakfast then. I remember this happening towards the end of my last pregnancy. Id keep a banana by my bed and eat it half asleep lol.
Also awake hunting for a nice lamp online - remember hating how bright the labour room was in hospital last time so when at home this time be nice if I'm in dim lighting - although I have no lamp for the room yet; probably not a 4am problem!
Anyway am going to get off my phone & try and fit in 2 more hours sleep before DS is up jumping on my head ready to start the day.

Night all - or good morning really lol.

icklekid · 16/06/2014 04:53

Welcome to the 4am club hayley hope you manage to get back to sleep! Good luck sorting those boxes but no heavy lifting!

plate sounds like you've had a husy weekend creating your amazing kitchen- jealous of large fridge freezer- ours was bought for last house where space was limited... we would love to extend our kitchen/diner/replace conservatory but can't see it happening for a few years!

In a sulky don't want to go to work mood at the moment! Back has been awful all weekend so going to physio this afternoon. On wed got midwife appointment at 3, however lots of ladies from antenatal group are going to bumps to babies group at 2- is it acceptable to sneak away from work early? (They are actually meeting for coffee at 1 but think I would be taking the mikey to leave then!)

Also hospital bag is all packed except for a change of clothes to come home in, I have so few maternity clothes that I'm just going to have to grab what's clean- can't not wear an outfit for next (potentially) 5 weeks if I go 2 weeks overdue!

Had awkward conversation with my dm last night- trying to establish expectations of visiting post birth, dh very adamant we shouldn't have visitors until we want them- my parents like 2h away and dm said they would drive up for flying visit just to see us, when I said if I'd had a difficult labour that might be better when home not hospital she sounded so upset and now I'm upset! Arhh pregnancy hormones! Dh was out last night, and for some reason still asleep right now so offloading here!

justhayley · 16/06/2014 05:20

I'm now in the 4 & 5am club Confused

With regards to visitors I'd wait till youv had the baby and just see how you feel. Has your DH given a reason why he doesn't want your mum to come to the hospital? I'd say usually it would be the new mum who would decide what she wants after going through labour. Also depends I guess on how long you are in hospital.

I don't get along with my MIL at all and hated when she visited in hospital so soon after the birth. Was also furious when on day 1 DP brought his childhood friend who iv never met + his girlfriend to visit without a warning.
This time I'm hoping to birth at home and I'm worried I'll have even less control as at least with hospital you get visiting times! (I'm
not very good at being assertive and asking people to leave or saying no not today).
To be honest I'm not sure why I didn't want visitors (was only really ok with my mum). We stayed in for just under a week, I was ok after a few days but still really selective about who I wanted to come and visit.
DPs friend bought me the most amazing bunch of flowers which was lovely - unfortunately they were not allowed on the ward - MIL took it upon herself to have the flowers rather than leave them at home for me when I returned - I'm clearly still not over thisAngry

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy · 16/06/2014 06:34

icklekid you say your DH adamant about not having visitors until you are ready. How do you feel about your parents visiting? Can they be trusted to do just a quick visit to hospital if they are called and invited if you feel ok? Will it be the first grandchild for your parents? That can impact levels of excitement and expectation! If they visit you at home, will they be proactive at making a cup of tea and opening a packet of biscuits themselves or would they expect full hospitality services to be provided?

In my last pregnancy I was sure about not wanting visitors too soon, but following EMCS when DH just told me that my mother was flying over ASAP I was so happy. But other than my mother, the only visitor I wanted during a week in hospital was a friend who is a nurse at the NICU so understood my situation (and was ready to take over in my first attempt at nappy changing as my legs wobbled).

This time we have my parents staying before and afterwards for up to 3 weeks! But it's different with a toddler to care for too.

hayley Shock at having people you have never met before being brought to the hospital!

It's very difficult to balance how you currently feel, the unknown of how you will feel after birth and how any potential visitors will behave and their excitement about a new baby and everybody's feelings.

BlueC2 · 16/06/2014 07:54

I was still awake at 4am Angry so so tired now. DH moving at snail pace this morning so I just suggested he take the car today and drop DS on the way to work and pick up on way home. This would mean he could go in a little later and still be home for bathtime - but he doesn't understand my directions to get from childminders to work so has said no :( so frustrating, it's really not complicated!! Alas satnav would try and take him on M25 and not traffic free back route so that's no use. He's tired and last minute changes of plan fluster him even if they would actually be helpful!

Re visitors. Culturally DHs family have to visit ASAP. With DS born 6.30am we were home by 6pm the same day and my PIL and 2 BIL+families were sat outside our flat in their cars waiting for us Shock I was still so high on post birth happy hormones that it didn't bother me too much but DH found it really hard and I suspect will be v dictating to his family this time!
