livvy don't worry about what those judgmental people think about your weight and your age. If you are happy then that's all that matters. I'm 5ft3 and weigh about 78kg and I'm a size 14-16 and am also considered over-weight. However I was going to the gym 4-5 times a week and therefore fit as a fiddle. I've been doing the grazing thing as well to keep the sickness at bay!

Re the smell thing.....I can't stand my hubby coming near me when he's been drinking beer...vom!

Frances great news re the scan!

Feeling better today although still a dull headache. Hoping I'm okay for a swim later while ds is at his lesson!

MelMc73 · 03/06/2014 13:17

deuscat I have my booking appt on Thurs morning and not looking forward to the blood tests as I have crappy veins as well!! I end up like a pin cushion! I weighed myself the other day and was surprised I hadn't put on much more than half a pound....feels like a lot more!

Livvy I agree with Madri, you have it all just right! I would have loved to have 5 dc's by the time I was 25 but unfortunately I was never able to get pregnant until I was 37, so here I am at 43 upduffed with #3 and getting sterilised afterwards Hmm I was a size 6/8 when I fell the first time and I'm now a 14/16 with health issues on top of that, so don't you go worrying about anything that mw said, if us oldies can do it you certainly can Smile

MelMc73 · 03/06/2014 14:31

Hear hear madrigals and linda.......I will be almost 60 when DC2 leaves home as well! DC1 was an "accident" and I was 33 when I had him and thought that was old at the time! I'm a bit envious of my step sisters as they both had their kids in their 20's and they are now enjoying life for themselves!

livvy you are obviously doing very well for yourself career-wise and parenting-wise!! Just give everyone a smug smile if they try to judge you and walk away.

Monstamio · 03/06/2014 14:49

Gosh, how infuriating Livvy. But I agree with all above - just let it be water off a duck's back.

Congrats on the scan Frances - seeing the heartbeat is just magical, isn't it?

Minibagel · 03/06/2014 15:03

Congrats to Frances, that's lovely news, I can't wait for my early scan a week on Monday :) I keep worrying there will be nothing there, but I guess that's pretty normal paranoid pg behaviour!

Livvy I also have to watch my weight as I'm in the overweight bmi (28) but I was slim before ds1 (bmi21) and I know I can get back to that once this baby is born. I just never really lost any after ds1 was born, so I can totally see how if you have 3 in a row you'd be in the same boat. It's outrageous but it's one of the last taboos that people don't seem to mind breaking, by making assumptions about you because of what you weigh. I know when a mw says it to do with a pg it's a health thing, I get that, but there is no excuse for people thinking you'd be on benefits etc. I also think age has a thing to do with it, if you are younger people make assumptions about your lifestyle choices eg young mum, possibly unstable home life. Which is nonsense of course!!

HenriettaTurkey · 03/06/2014 15:10

Minibagel - my BMI is 28 too - although give me a couple of week's and it'll be way down if I carry on feeling this way!

My latest aversion is toothpaste - I gagged massively when brushing my teeth this morning. Ugh.

This too shall pass. On the upside, it's making me believe that I actually am pregnant. Now all I have to do is figure out how to be presentable at the family wedding a week on Saturday.

Any tips? Grin

cheshirem2b · 03/06/2014 16:42

Livvy - I'm around the same as you on the height/weight ratio thing and my midwife was lovely. she went through the extra folic acid, taking aspirin and watch that I don't turn in to a human dustbin but said as long as I'm sensible then she wasn't concerned. They will obviously keep an eye on things but she wasn't concerned. Also, since I found out I'm pg I've actually lost 4lb (probably from not drinking beer/wine!)! It's a shame you have a judgy mw - don't let her get to you!

EnglishGirlsReturned · 03/06/2014 17:26

Hello ladies..

Glad your scan went well Frances Smile
Livvy that mw sounds like a bitch. Hate judgemental people. Sounds like you're doing a great job.
Do they have to actually tell me my weight at booking in (still not booked it)?? I don't actually want to know!

It told my dm today, she's promised to keep it a secret until my next reassurance scan next week. Feel like a weight has been lifted. Also helped ease my anxiety about my lack of nausea - she apparently had nothing at all when upduffed with me. And never had a positive pregnancy test, despite scans showing me wiggling away!!
Any way if all goes well, I plan on putting a pic in df's fathers day card! He's had a tough time recently and a grandbaby will def put a smile on his face. Then everyone else can wait til 12 weeks.

gingysmummy · 03/06/2014 17:26

Hi everyone, ms has well and truely kicked inHmm feeling awful nausea not actually been sick yet, can't face eating anything. Don't know how I'll cope at work got 3 12.5 hour nightshifts to get through plus look after ds

KeepOnPloddingOn · 03/06/2014 17:49

Great news Frances

Livvy if You are happy that is all that matters. I am mid twenties and having another when dd is just one. Tbh I do get a lot of gasps at the small age gap, but no my age! Though I have a few years on you :)

Sounds like you have a good thing going. Atleast you have your career, I graduated them had a baby haha (much to parents dismay)

LuluJakey1 · 03/06/2014 18:46

DH is 35 today. I was sick on him this morning.

Had to rush to bathroom and he was in the way. Oops. Blush He was very nice about it. I cried and spent half an hour next to the loo.

However, have been to work and been fine. DH has had cards and pressies tonight and birthday cake. I am making his favourite tea.

Gone are the days of wild nights out!

RPopz · 03/06/2014 19:20

My DH is 33 today Lulu! Seems to be a very popular birthday according to my facebook. Sorry you've been feeling sick. Me and DH went out for a massive slap up lunch which was amazing... feeling crappy now though and at work til 8am Sad Sad Sad

Great news on the scan Frances Grin

Nyancat · 03/06/2014 19:38

hi all just wondering how long it takes for cyclizine to kick in, day 2 of taking it and still feeling grim. I didn't take it in first pg and suffered til about 6 months.

OneDayLikeThis2013 · 03/06/2014 20:10

I managed to peel some potatoes this evening as my contribution to dinner and felt really pleased with myself! I'm also still awake and downstairs at 8pm - today has been a better day!

Anyone watching the programme about quads on itv? Imagine that! I have triplets and twins (naturally) in my family Shock

Saraswati · 03/06/2014 20:17

Hi nyancat it took about 5/6 days to kick in for me, make sure you're taking the full dose too as it builds up. Sorry you're feeling so bad, I was bad and the cyclizine helps but I'm still sick a couple of times a day so be aware it's not a miracle cure! It made me even more tired and a bit dizzy for the first few days too but that settled down. Hope you feel better soon!

Great news frances isn't it just the best feeling ever!?!

Age baby/career chat is interesting, I did the university thing, got a masters and have waited until 28 to have a baby but I've never had a permanent job so it hasn't got me very far!! And now I'm planning to jack it all in when I've have this baby because child care costs more than I earn and I want to bring up my kids myself. It really doesn't matter how you do things. Other peoples choices will never be the right choices for you - if anyone ever questions your choices just tell them to bugger off!

I'm so exhausted today, had a weird lunchtime puke to add to the daily morning and evening pukes, so I'm going to go and lie in bed and eat some biscuits. Please tell me this gets better at 12 weeks?!!!

LuluJakey1 · 03/06/2014 20:46

RPopz I hadn't felt sick for a few days. Feel ok tonight.

Have had one glass of champagne for DH's birthday. Has gone to my head. At the best of times I can't drink more than a couple of glasses without suffering the next day.

Am having to lie down after the one glass tonight- haven't had alcohol for weeks.

Nyancat · 03/06/2014 21:15

thanks saras will keep going and keep my fingers crossed it starts to kick in soon, it was bad last time but 100 times worse with a toddler and dh working night shifts.

cheshirem2b · 03/06/2014 21:19

It's interesting about age and career... I'm a solicitor and been married 6 years (anniversary on Saturday). Got married at 25 and have a reasonable reputation career wise under my belt. We moved 12m ago to our new house and now is the right time for us to have baby(ies).
Everyone is different but interesting to read the different stories.
Anyone watching secret lives of babies on itv?

Pesto11 · 03/06/2014 21:30

Yes I'm watching that now. Just finished watching the quads programme... wow!

KeepOnPloddingOn · 03/06/2014 21:37

Yes watched the quads too!! Wow!!

cheshirem It is intetesting the different stages people are at. I am a Deputy Head in a large school. Almost 35, married nearly 4 yrs, together 5. DH same age in almost similar position career wise.

We just wanted a bit of time together to enjoy being married, have holidays, establish ourselves a bit. Have very little mortgage and this is just the right time for us.

Have not fully decided what we will do. I will take a year off for maternity leave but we do want more than one DC ( at the moment) so might try to get them in close together- or might feel like we can never go through it again once we have done it once! Smile
