I'm watching Jeremy Kyle in preparation for mat leave

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 10:05

Oh god it's awful.

lindamagoo · 27/05/2014 10:05

I watched Jeremy Kyle the other morning for the first time in ages but found myself getting rather angry and wanting to jump in the telly and punch people, so no more Jezza for me Smile

MademoiselleG · 27/05/2014 10:09

Grin at 'in preparation for mat leave'

I am taking one of the knitting books to dm - she WILL learn to knit and be a 'proper' grandma Wink

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 10:09

This is worse than watching a kid kick off at school. It is really really horrendous.

lindamagoo · 27/05/2014 10:12

Poly have you made that phone call yet?

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 10:31

Hats are easy fancy, straight lines and decreases. With a bit of double rib (knit, knit, purl, purl, repeat) if you don't want a rolled brim. I can't be doing with any if this knitting in the round malarkey (see crochet - it's witchcraft) so I just sew em up the back when I'm done. Here's two I knitted for bfs DTs.

I was just thinking about that poly : any news??

MademoiselleG · 27/05/2014 10:32

LOVE the hats Retro ! Please be my friend [pretty eyes]

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 10:33

I'll dig out my recipe Grin

Ooh yes. Maybe poly is currently unleashing the Rage on them and they are grovelling.

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 10:35

Those hats are amazing. I reckon I could do that! I've got all my stitch types sorted, it's just increasing and decreasing I need to practice! Did you make it up or have you got a pattern?

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 10:47

Decreasing is easy! Just knit two stitches together. It can get more technical, but that's all you need really.

I got the pattern off t'interweb. Can remember it off the top of my head but I've got it written down somewhere...

Ah ha! It's Bev's Toronto Preemie Hat

I made the middle size (I think) and it fitted bfs DTs at just under 5lb. I guess to size up just add a multiple of 4 stitches on and knit till it measures longer.

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 11:09

That's brilliant, thanks! Have saved the bookmark. Can I ask a stupid question though - when you decrease do you knit the 2 stitches together in the same place every time? i.e. 1st/last stitch or something?

My belly is HUGE today! I look like a proper preggo but as I'm just 7-8 weeks (possibly 7+5) I know it's just bloat and fat which makes me sad. Has anyone else got a BELLY when they shouldn't? And what about the far along penis dragonners? When did you get your BELLY?

chillychicken · 27/05/2014 11:18

waves morning all.

Right, I need to order a tankini. I have large boobs (32G) and I'm sort of falling out of my bra. What bloody size do I get next? Figleaves reckons a 30J or a 32GG, if I go by measuring then it's a 34DD. Do I just order one of each and hope for the best? I'm literally going to wear this for one effing day as the next time I'll be in such a position to wear one, I should have a bloody big bump and will need a maternity version.

Stupid boobs. Admittedly, they've reduced in size a bit over the last week and they're not as sore. Although BLOODY HELL yesterday my nipples were on fire. Almost like they were so cold, they were burning if that makes sense? I thought they were going to fall off. Horrible.

I don't have any pregnancy books yet but I'm obsessed with the website www.pregnology.com It's brilliant!

11+6 today, only 6 days to wait until scan. Yay! Symptoms dropping off - nausea pretty much disappeared & I have a bit more energy.

lindamagoo · 27/05/2014 11:25

fancy I'm 7 weeks today and have a very noticeable belly, had a few comments about it already. I showed quite quickly the last twice aswell

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 11:26

fancy, if you follow the pattern it will say e.g. K4, k2tog repeat to end. That's basically, knit 4 stitches, then knit the next two together, knit the next 4 etc... When you do it as the pattern say the decrease stitches will make spiral lines going up towards the crown.

Also, slight amendment to my previous post: if you want to make it bigger, CO extra multiples of 8, not 4. As the decreases are usually in multiples of 8 could still be wrong best find a pattern!

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 11:28

Ffs! Decrease rows are in multiples of 12, so CO extras in groups of 12! Was nearly right with 6!!

MademoiselleG · 27/05/2014 11:31

fancy I have days when I show - evenings actually - and some less so! weird...

Poly, if you ARE unleashing the rage...thinking of you. ROAR!

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 11:46

Just bought a three pack of Genie Bras for £15. This has changed my life!

Not sure how supportive they are, but they are so comfy. Bliss.

MademoiselleG · 27/05/2014 11:52

Right - I'm off. Have a good day all!

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 11:59

Oops. £30 on Preggo books from Smiths. Just fell into my hand!

PolytheneGirl · 27/05/2014 11:59

It has taken me until 11:30 to get the rage under control enough to make the phone call. I still haven't got an appointment but the lady "says" she is going to call me back with it this afternoon As she can't understand it now. I'm wound up so tight I might explode!

Loving the knitting chat. Maybe I should give it a go. Might stop me obsessing over other things so much!

Hi ladies!

Just back from my booking appointment and having a sneaky half hour before I head to work. All went very well, had a lovely midwife & her just as lovely student, and now the proud owner of a big pack of notes, junk mail and leaflets!

Have declined to give my details to Bounty, but still got the first pack of free junk, and don't think I'll bother with the next one.

Whizzed through the medical history questions (embarrassingly healthy, especially now I'm off the alcohol and caffeine!) and various fluids given for testing. Still no scan date though, but that'll apparently come in the post in next few days.

It all feels very real today!

Btw if anyone is considering harmony testing, it seems the cheapest option is in Cardiff...

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 12:09

And back to Smiths for a refund having found both books for £7 altogether in Oxfam Blush

PolytheneGirl · 27/05/2014 12:16

Omg Retro those hats are so cute! Ideal in those colours for my little christmas present! Must learn to knit!! Must learn to knit!!
