Hahahaha literary genius Zermatt!

Why am I awake? Stupid bladder.

Congratulations Flirty!!!! Lovely to have you here! I got my BFP on one of the last days of the April bus when everyone bar me, Kitty and Victoria had buggered off to May or over here.

Retro your SYMPTOMS are the same as mine - even still, 7-8 weeks in. Although I do feel sick if I eat too much after not eating for a while. If you're also like me and on the smaller size of boobage then I recommend BHS for non-underwired bras. Their crop-top style one is really comfortable.

Midwife this morning!

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 08:58

I was planning on making a visit to BHS. My boobs are wide rather than sticking out IYSWIM. Makes it a real pain to buy underwired bras that are comfy. It's like I need an F-G cup underwiring but with a B-C cup. Best I've found so far is a 32DD, but it's still not comfy. Cannot wait for stretchy, soft bras Grin

Good luck at the midwife appt. GP for me, hoping I get a nice early midwife referral and can pick my 12 week scan date. I have quite specific requirements due to a hen weekend at the end of my 12th week. Will be so much easier if I can just tell the girls.

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 09:00

That didn't sound as lighthearted as I meant! Of course I'm not going to be too demanding about appointment times Grin

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 09:02

barmy, nice to hear from you Smile

Half term is amazing. Currently back in bed after early morning toast. Not looking forward to the next 7-week slog though, especially as the big 'O' are due Sad

This too shall pass Grin summer before we know it! Cannot wait for a lovely relaxing 2nd trimester summer holiday. Luffly.

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 09:14

Retro for the past 3 years our school have said to us "Ofsted ARE coming this year. They can't not. Be prepared". 3 fucking years.

I want teeeeea and there's no milk. Feeling pathetic. Send help. Or milk.

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 09:17

Oh that would be utterly amazing if they don't come! And I'm probably back on supply in September fecking love supply work so would avoid it completely.

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 09:21

SIL has lent out all her pg books Sad (including one a friend lent her through me!). If I'm going shopping today are there any you would recommend? Might hit the Oxfam book shop to avoid spending too much so might be restricted on choice, but just in case...

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 09:24

You said you have Expecting Better didn't you?
Other than that I have Conception, Pregnancy and Birth by Mariam Stoppard and it's ok. Not sure I love it.
What do you want from your pg books?

Zermatt · 27/05/2014 09:32

I've just ordered "The Panic-Free Pregnancy" which sounds good :)

Zermatt · 27/05/2014 09:33

Mainly I want books that tell me to relax and not to worry. Hopefully that one does what it says on the tin.

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 09:36

Just looking at that on amazon now Zermatt - it looks similar to Expecting Better so hopefully it'll be very good for you! And let us know all the good stuff in it!

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 09:37

Erm, I think I want something that tells me what to expect (I know, clue is in the name!). Things like what size the baby is, what symptoms might happen when. I'm a bit if a knowledge junkie, so as much info as possible!

Yep, got Expecting Better. But I've already read the conception and first trimester bits Grin

What is it that you don't like about Miriam Stoppard's?

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 09:41

I think maybe the fact that now I've conceived the whole conception section seems useless. That is a really stupid thing to say because when I was TTC it was the only bit I could read. I think it's not detailed enough in terms of what you want which is exactly what I want too - detailed run down of what is happening when and symptoms. It's more just general 'Between 6-12 weeks' and 'Between 12-16 weeks' etc. Had to hit google for a more detailed rundown.

MademoiselleG · 27/05/2014 09:42

Mmh...I have the 'pregnancy day by day' book which is quite nice for technical information about baby's development. It's a but know-it-all sometimes, like: "5-8 weeks: your boobs WILL be tender and sore by then and you will need to change bra-size"...errr...actually, no, my boobs are still not that sore (which I am worried about actually!) and other little annoying passages like that, but otherwise I love the foetus representation pictures, you see exactly what baby looks like every week, and loads of preggo women's pictures too so you can compare (and not feel too stupid). It's quite good I'd say and gives you something to read every day (as per title).

I had to give Expecting Better back to the friend who lent it to me, sadly...so I pre-ordered a copy on Amazon. It's a UK adaptation, so apparently a few chapters have been slightly amended to fit the UK system better. Released end of June.

Just borrowed Babies: the mumsnet guide from library: it's feckin' hilarous! Also got the babymoon experience: how to nurture yourself and your baby through pregnancy and the early weeks: a bit hippyish but then I can be at times, who am I kidding...

MademoiselleG · 27/05/2014 09:45

Some appas are great too: I have the babycentre one, iPregnancy and one just called Pregnancy. They have size visualisers and some sections about 'what's happening to Mommy / Daddy / Baby" (but American but ok).

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 09:46

Might pop to the library after the mw app then and see what's there! Can't wait to do some knitting this afternoon too.
Feel exactly the same about Conception, Pregnancy and Birth Mademoiselle. You WILL experience this and PRETTY MUCH EVERY SINGLE woman goes through this. Very presumptuous

DH went and got milk and has made me tea. He's a keeper, that one.

MademoiselleG · 27/05/2014 09:47

*apps

The one thing I would say though: READ BOOKS ABOUT BABIES TOO and not just about pregnancy! I didn't with dd and then I freaked out when she was born because suddenly a) I didn't have a clue what I was doing and b) I didn't have time to read books anymore! Your baby week by week was by far the best one. I burnt all the Gina Ford books and Baby Whisperer crap on a massive bonfire as soon as I discovered that one: factual, not guilt-inducing; reassuring and technical, not bossy. Finally a book that didn't make me feel like a massive failure because my baby wasn't napping at regular intervals, feeding only 4x a week at 2 weeks and other complete bonkers bits like that.
Some people I know loved them: I really didn't!!

MademoiselleG · 27/05/2014 09:52

defo a keeper, fancy. Send him over here when he's done, fridge is tooooooo faaaaaar!

I picked up some amazeballs knitting books at the library too! Started a hat (thought: at least I might finish that one by the time baby is born) and managed to knit about 10 cm of the hat (not a mean feat considering how slow I am!!)...but dd pulled out the needle. And I am hopeless so don't know how to put it back in properly. Every single time I have done this in the past, I just ended up putting it back in the wrong way and having a 'wrong' row. might need to undo the whole feckin thing.

I

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 09:53

Grin at burning all the others!

I also want things like food charts and sensible advice on excercise. I think What to Expect is probably the most like what I want, but I know SIL has that so def won't be buying a new copy ok, I might but don't tell DH!

RetroHippy · 27/05/2014 09:55

Mum has already been to the wool shop! (With strict instructions not to get anything pastel. Preggo-zilla, moi?!)

I have packed all my wool but I def need to start some wee projects for the evenings. Hats are brill, can finish a mini-hat in 2 hours Very satisfying.

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 09:56

I was planning on doing the baby prep from about 20 weeks - I've already bought one parenting book 'What every parent needs to know: the incredible effects of love, nurture and play on your child's development' by Margot Sutherland which used to be called The Science of Parenting which is a lot less of a wanky title. It uses psychological and neuroscientific research to create recommendations for how to care for the baby. My kind of thing geek.
Will definitely order 'Your baby week by week' though!

MademoiselleG · 27/05/2014 09:56

just get a cheap one on amazon? bad bad website, I know, but hey!

Can you tell I am supposed to be packing? Taking over this thread! Blush

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 09:57

I haven't knitted anything other than straight lines - are hats hard? Might be a good project to take on holiday with me as it won't need much wool at least.

MademoiselleG · 27/05/2014 09:58

Oooh fancy I like that one (under the initial title). Like the author's name too, definitely on our girls' shortlist (Margot)!

Retro come over here and teach meee! Baby bootees are next.

fancyacupoftea · 27/05/2014 09:59

I've also bought 'The Ultimate Book of Baby Knits' but it does all look a bit complicated - might have to gift it to MIL with post-its of what I want!
