hi folks - thought we should have a new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yay for the tights! Pleased you're ok and thanks for the heads up. It's amazing how that hunger can creep up on you.

Venus2 · 15/05/2014 14:26

How scary Twiglet! Glad you are feeling better now. Got to keep your blood sugar levels up esp with a high metabolism.

utopian99 · 15/05/2014 14:31

Crikey twiglet, good thing she caught you!

I have bloods back and downs risk is 1 in 1200. Dh is happy but I'm still paranoid. Am I being stupid?

Venus2 · 15/05/2014 14:50

Utopian, mine was 1 in 1350 and the MW said that was a good result and that I shouldn't be worried. I still went ahead and did the Harmony test for my own peace of mind but that's just me.

Venus2 · 15/05/2014 14:54

Was just thinking about the number of people who had to leave the early threads. Sending them positive vibes for next time. We really are lucky that we have come this far.

Venus2 · 15/05/2014 14:55

Feeling grateful :)

PosyFossilsShoes · 15/05/2014 14:58

Scary Twiglet! Glad you're ok now.

Mid-pregnancy is when your blood pressure is lowest - when I went into hosp the other day I went in at 90/55 and even when I was discharged it was still lower than normal. I'm having to stand up slowly because I see stars if I get up too fast!

alita7 · 15/05/2014 15:31

You never know, they could be on the Jan threads or even soon to find themselves on the Feb threads, fingers crossed for them!

Hears to no one else having to leave!

weeonion · 15/05/2014 15:34

venus2 - when you did the harmony - did they tell you the length of time til the results were back?? I have been trying to get them to clarify if it was 16 calendar days or 16 working 16 days. The private clinic cant tell me - they said they only provide the venue and it is the consultant who needs to clarify. He was meant to get in touch yesterday and ...... tumbleweed from him......

Weeonion, I did it last Thurs and they said that I should get the results within 2 weeks. It also says that on their website. How long have you been waiting?

BrandSnob · 15/05/2014 16:59

Just catching up with the thread, now I've got in from work. Had the tube journey from hell journey home literally, as the driver had the heating on full blast. So I spent 40 minutes feeling like a stuffed Christmas Turkey in an oven. Finally home with my feet up with an ice cold apple juice and a magnum.

Thanks for the tips Twiglet. Managed to sneak a few at work whilst my colleague was engrossed in what I should have been doing. Also, enjoy the spa, what a wonderful surprise.

Glad you're much better and at home now Posy.

Thisisimpossible · 15/05/2014 17:11

utopian if my combined nuchal and bloods come back at 1:1200 I will be delighted and will relax. The sonographer at my first scan at 10 weeks said because of my age I was starting off at 1:80 so for me it means that a result of 1:250 is likely to be a relief. Whilst the stats are probably true, I could have done without that bit of information tbh because I spent the week leading up to our dating scan at 13 weeks in a state of complete stress.

However, having said that, it is so subjective and a very personal decision. 1:1200 means that out of 1200 women, 1199 of them will have a healthy baby. That sounds pretty ok to me, but that's just my opinion. What matters is that you are ok with it.

nogeybose · 15/05/2014 17:13

Hi all, I haven't checked in here for ages. Can't believe how quickly the weeks are flying by - 16wk midwife check next week for me - aagh!

I'm still wishing I didn't miss my regular intake of caffeine and alcohol quite so much. But I've now definitely decided on the home-birth option, health permitting, as the midwife-led unit near me was shut down a few years ago.

Anyone see this article in the Telegraph this week? Kind of sums up my feelings about the whole thing. www.telegraph.co.uk/women/mother-tongue/10826773/Home-births-Ladies-home-births-really-are-the-VIP-labour-option.html

nogeybose · 15/05/2014 17:21

Oh and I'm massive. So bleedin' massive I can already fit into the gross maternity clothes I wore at 8/9 months when I was pregnant with my daughter. I want the bump to get bumpier and fast to put the rapidly expanding arse and ever-increasing number of chins into some sort of proportion...

FTMK · 15/05/2014 18:40

Glad to hear you are out of hospital Posy Smile Twiglet - that sounds dramatic. If I don't eat I just feel sick although I have had a couple of seeing stars moments. Re weight gain I haven't out on any and I'm paranoid that it's a bad sign - you can't win either way - if I'd put on I would be moaning I was fat. I have changed shape though - I bought a bra expander and some of my trousers are too tight to wear. I haven't told anyone yet - trying to wait until after half-term hols when I'll be 16 weeks. Partly because we have family event this weekend and don't want to steal the thunder. Also slightly scared to start telling everyone - did anyone else feel like that?

Most importantly though we just got NT results of 1 in 100000! As an old lady of 35 I am gobsmacked - now I'm worrying they've got it wrong!

FTMK · 15/05/2014 18:41

Should add I was a size 14 ish before pregnancy with a bit of a belly so there's probably more space to hide baby.

weeonion · 15/05/2014 19:08

Hey nogeybose - i am seeing my homebirth midwife tomorrow for 1st time at 16 week check. Excited and nervous - will let you know how i get on. Was also pleased to read the NICE guidelines this week. Fuel for any fights.

FTMK - you're nothing but a young thing!! ;-) We haven't told anyone yet. We'll wait til after last results are in (hopefully this weekend) and when i get home to Ireland to my folks.

FTMK · 15/05/2014 19:11

Oh weeonion, you flatter me! Glad it's not just me who hasn't told anyone. That's why this thread is useful to chat on.

StudyFullTime · 15/05/2014 19:50

Wow, I've just read the article on home birth, I might look into it a bit more and discuss it with my midwife at my 16 week check, DS' birth was absolutely textbook and I really want a water birth for this one.

Will pop into library tomorrow and pick up some books, anyone else thinking of a home birth?

BrandSnob · 15/05/2014 20:01

For anyone else that is Consultant led, do you see your midwife at the same time or before/after?
I'm seeing mine at 16 weeks, so I'm wondering if I need a second appointment to see the midwife too.

PosyFossilsShoes · 15/05/2014 20:55

I'm definitely thinking of a home birth. I think a hospital would be a stressful place to give birth, and it would be nice to have home comforts and as much tea as needed.

I would be worried that if something went wrong then it would be All My Fault for being such an irresponsible hippy though.

alita7 · 15/05/2014 21:19

I'd love a home birth but rented accommodation is not the place :/

StudyFullTime · 15/05/2014 21:29

Why not a rented place? I'm in a rented house...

Northernexile · 15/05/2014 21:32

BrandSnob I'm consultant led and I don't see him/her at all till 27 weeks as far as I can gather. At 16 weeks I am just seeing the midwife to get blood test results, have bo checked and get my notes.

Petal26 · 15/05/2014 21:39

I can't keep up with all this chatting!

FTMK I am a size 12/14 too so at the moment look a bit chubbier than I was before, no bump, just more of wobbly belly. Still need my maternity trousers though as it's enough to stop my others doing up! Wearing loose clothes, waiting until I have more of a bump than chub to wear tighter things!

I think you're all brave for considering a home birth. I did read the article but I needed a lot of intervention in the end last time and was glad to be at the hospital. I am considered low risk this time due to my age and other factors but we live 16 miles away from the hospital (25 minutes with no traffic) so if anything was to happen at home it would be a bit of a rush to get in. After everything that happened last time DH has put his foot down (in a protective alpha male way :-P)
