Welcome to the thread Alia! And thanks for the welcome back weeonion and Alita.

Weeonion - I'm not outed on PBG yet...there are a few people on there I haven't got around to telling yet about being pregnant so I've held off. There is loads of good advice coming up in their feed though.

My appointment is with Anne tomorrow - I had to chase it up because the referral hadn't been made (I suspected as much following my booking) but am really happy to get the wheels in motion for homebirth. I'm looking for a good book about homebirth for my partner just now, and a class he can come to as well so he can be really involved in it all. I'd looked at Lazy Daisy too, I like the sound of their couples workshop and it's pretty convenient for me. Are you doing hypnobirthing at the same place? I don't think I'm going to go to hypno classes but will see how I go with books and CDs. Ooh, hope it goes well with your Doula today, that's fab it's someone you already know. Let me know how it all goes!

Alita - I think you summed it up very well there. Once you get to the 2nd trimester you can't help but build everything up, so it's inevitable that you also loo at the flip side and worry - I know I am.

Welcome Alia and welcome back, Stripey! Glad everything is ok with you Smile

I am not normally a stressy person, but pg has definitely made me a bit of a worrywart. For example, I normally don't worry about my weight at all. I am slightly behind the horrendous 'NHS calculator' for appropriate weight gain for my BMI and stage of pregnancy. But yesterday DP's mum casually remarked that I should be careful how much sugar I'm eating, as it could make me fat or at risk of GD. Didn't think anything of it, but just been sitting in the office munching through a punnet of cherries and suddenly I felt sick with worry that I was going to put on too much weight.

Soooo, stupid question alert: Can the sugar in fruit put you at risk of GD? I've been trying to snack on healthy things the last 10 days - lots of raw carrot sticks & cucumber, loads of pineapple, apples, melon, grapes etc. as well as smoothies made with fat-free but not sugar-free yoghurt and summer berries/banana/blueberries. I'm probably going through 5 or 6 portions of fruit/veg a day just in snacks. Is that too much?! Eek! Sad

Going to have a name change for the next thread but not shouting about it. Wink See you there! Smile

Utopian you must be near me, I'm booked at Whipps Cross, although that may have been a terrible mistake based on how incompetent they seem to be in getting appointments out!

Lovely bump pics up thread, it's amazing what people think they can get away with commenting on because you're pregnant.

I keep worrying The Butterbean isn't growing too (was it Amylou? Brain like goldfish today). I'm still not convinced I'm feeling any movements at 18+1. I think I might feel the odd flutter, but not really sure and keep thinking I'll look really stupid if I think I can feel things and actually my baby has died. I'm aware this sounds pretty ridiculous. Keep trying to get my DH to feel so that he can reassure me

twiglet I read a book about sugar and the obesity epidemic last year and in it the author said that sugar in fruit is fine in the fruit- due to the extra fibre content of the fruit and how your body had to work to digest it. But as soon as you juiced it you might as well be drinking coke. I'm not exactly sure what the deal is with smoothies, suspect it's somewhere in the middle. He wasn't talking about GD though specifically, but the kind that can be caused by diet (can never remember which type is which!)
None of it is great for your teeth though I don't think!

Were nearly at our limit so ill do a new thread :)

Hi everyone, thanks for the reassurance last night. I woke up at 3.30 with stomach pains really low down (still have them now) and so ended up going to A&E to be checked out, but they made me feel like a nuisance and didn't seem bothered at all. They examined my stomach and then sent me home. I was hoping to hear the baby's heartbeat, just for reassurance, but they said that they couldn't do it in A&E :( So I have ordered myself a doppler, should be arriving from Amazon tomorrow. I can't wait 9 more days (when my 20 week scan is) to find out if all is ok. I know I should be relieved that they're not worried, but I just want to know all is ok.

Amy - I also have these fears (as I am sure you can tell from my posts). I do worry I am turning into a crazy woman. I can't feel movement yet and I am 19 weeks tomorrow. I am hoping that I can feel the baby soon as that might help me to relax. I think I do need to find a way to panic less so I can actually enjoy this, and like someone else said, I guess this is just what motherhood is like, one worry after another! Hopefully we'll all have reassuring 20 week scans soon :)

amylou85 · 09/06/2014 17:58

Hopeful that's awful! Can't believe they just sent you home! I know now not to go to A&E if something happens! My midwife told me that would be the quickest way to get seen but sounds like they know nothing about babies! I hope your doppler eases you worry.

At my 16 wk appointment today, I was late so forgot midwife notes, wee sample etc. She had a trainee teen nurse to check my babies heartbeat, I didn't have it in me to tell her i'd only checked last night. When she was searching I wanted to grab the thing off her and say 'look it likes to lay here!!!' but she eventually found it. Had no idea my placenta would be up by my belly button by now, certainly doesn't look like it is.

Teancakes it was the other Amy83!

blamber · 09/06/2014 18:00

Hopeful, I'm sorry you're having such a stressful time! I'm glad I had a 16 week scan, just to see everything is ok, although the low Papp-a, which is the reason why I need these scans, is causing a lot more anxiety as well! I hope your doppler will give you some reassurance, but please know that if you have an anterior placenta you may not pick up the heartbeat.
