Thanks everyone, I'm really hoping I manage to stick it out so I can have maximum time with baby. I've got a horse to look after too......so fingers crossed I stay fit ish until the end, as it will cost me a fortune to pay others to look after her as well as work her, hoping I can carry on the mucking out etc for as long as poss so I'm only forking out for her to be ridden once I get too big.

topmammy · 04/05/2014 23:03

Congrats on your blue news polka! I have an anterior placenta, although a high one but I saw my tummy jump for the first time yesterday when baby kicked (I'm 23w+5).

lilone do you know how many sessions your nhs antenatal classes are? Here it is a course called 'bumps to babies' and its 2 hours on a Wednesday afternoon for 4 weeks. They gave me a letter that briefly outlines what each session will cover. Starting at the end of this month, hoping it will be good! Btw I often feel overwhelmed and have to give myself a talking to lilone so don't worry you're not alone! :)

Debating whether to sign up for a NCT antenatal course too but tbh I'd only be doing it to try to make some friends with babies rather than learning since I'm already doing the nhs course. Hmm!

Polka Does it say in your notes what position anterior your placenta is? Mine is anterior high and I'm guessing it's very high up as I already see movements on the outside and did all the way through with last ds who was anterior high to. Personally it never effected my movements too much but some ladies on here have said it has effected them!

misog Nope I don't think your being too ambitious! I think everyone is different and you just go with what feels right, if it gets difficult later on you can always request to leave, I'm sure you'll be fine!

kitkat I was a student nurse with my first DS when I took maternity leave. I found the uni part fine in late pregnancy (was just sitting there!) but do admit I found the placements harder later on when I was bigger as I never really sat down. You might be a lot fitter than me though and to be fair I did have issues with my hips so that was probably why!

holls2000 · 05/05/2014 09:48

I'm hoping to start on 12th sept - so I go back to work for 2 weeks and then finish 13 days before DD....providing all ok. I'm quite concerned about making sure the person covering my post is all set up and happy with what they have to do. Then aiming to be back for 2 weeks in June before term ends in the summer. I'm lucky as we run a summer school so I can do a few days of that to get some extra cash which will be much needed :-)

xxmissbrightsidexx · 05/05/2014 10:36

Hi summer thanks. The days are dragging, 3 weeks is ages to wait for results to come back :(

cookielove · 05/05/2014 11:01

Hello all, finally on my lap top which is so much easier to write on, i make so many mistakes on my phone cause i have fat fingers Blush or i am an idiot, you choose

I love that we are all thinking about maternity leave, this is becoming so real. I would also like my lo to go to my nursery but not until after they are a year, as i work in the baby room and if they started under a year then i wouldn't be able to come back into my room :( but if they start over a year they will go into toddlers. Although i am going to look at other nurseries, for several reasons, i am nosy, i may be able to find somewhere cheaper, a nursery closer to home means dh could pick up to.

To keep the money flowing i plan to go back to my babysitting jobs once i feel up to it, that's an extra bit of cash coming in each week :)

Oh if any one wants to ask any nursery questions please feel free to ask :)

polkadotdelight · 05/05/2014 11:06

Downstairs it only said anterior placenta. She did check that it wasn't previa (covering the cervix - is that right) though. I feel movements like jabs or kicks very low down and occasionally up to the side of my belly button. It's mostly very low at the moment. I feel a bit daft because all the times I've been giving my tummy a little rub I've been rubbing the bloody placenta!

lilone1234 · 05/05/2014 11:23

cookie It must be helping you feel prepared working with babies already! I used to work with children, so can deal with temper tantrums but not very experienced with very little babies!

topmammy Thanks, glad i'm not the only one feeling it! My classes are a two day intensive, so 10am - 4pm over two Fridays. I got a letter confirming them, but no further info about what will be covered. I've heard that NCT ones are good for meeting new people too and would probably be good for me as I don't live very near my family or friends anymore and have no close friends with babies nearby. I get very shy and anxious about meeting new people though, so even that is scaring me!

cookielove · 05/05/2014 11:52

lilone yeah i think that working with the babies is really going to help, especially as a while ago i did one on one care with a 7lb, 3 month baby (soooo cute) i looked after her for just over a year!!

What colour is every ones notes?

ilovemonstersInc · 05/05/2014 12:03

7lb 3month old awww. My babiew are close to 9lbers!

My notes are green? My understanding is all are now? Ive had white in the past

CumbrianExile · 05/05/2014 12:10

Green here too.

I havent booked on any ante natal classes yet. Asked at my last midwife appt, and she gave me the number to ring and said that I had plenty of time as I would be on the August course. Seems late if some of you are on them next month. I might give them a ring tomorrow and see.

KatharineClover · 05/05/2014 12:18

My notes are yellow :)

CoolCat2014 · 05/05/2014 12:44

My notes are yellow, and bilingual, as I live in Wales. Still not used to that even though I've lived in Wales 4 years now. Keep on having moments where I look at something and can't understand why it doesn't make sense, then I realise I'm reading the Welsh part Blush

When do you get told about birth choices and antenatal classes? I'm 23 weeks now and not been told anything :(

Lottiedoubtie · 05/05/2014 13:21

My notes are in a blue cover, green paper. Does this mean anything?

I think I've decided against NCT classes as they seem expensive and I'm crap at making friends in a 'forced' way so don't want to pay loads to not even make any friends. Worried I'll regret it though and be lonely Sad

topmammy · 05/05/2014 14:22

Yeah I would feel a bit like I 'had' to make friends if I paid for the NCT course. Sometimes you just don't click with people, sometimes you do so it would be expensive if it didn't happen. I hope I'll meet people at baby groups though so might leave it at that. I don't want to feel lonely either lottie. If the nhs course isn't any good, then I'll see if it's not too late to sign up to an NCT one.

coolcat My midwife told me about the nhs antenatal classes at my 16w appt and gave me info about the April course but I thought it was just too early so I'm doing the May/June sessions. Mine are held at a SureStart children's centre, if you have those you could ring them and book yourself onto a course.

I think I have finally decided I want to get a Bednest for baby's first 6months with me and DH but DH thinks it's a waste of money! Making my doubt my choice now, but I like how I could check baby is ok without getting out of bed. I have a feeling I'll be wanting to check baby is breathing, not too hot/cold all the time!

polkadotdelight · 05/05/2014 15:43

Yellow notes here too!

Fairypants · 05/05/2014 16:07

Yellow notes here and have been for the last 16 years.
My nhs classes are in July- 4 x 2hr sessions. I know that each session is split into a hour each for the mw and physio but can't remember anything about the content (assuming it hasn't changed).
I'm getting a bedside crib too. Both my dds ended up in our bed with a bed guard on the outside. It meant that they had their own safe so less risk from our pillows and duvet etc but I could get them to sleep again in the night. For me these bedside cribs are simply progressSmile

Bananapickle · 05/05/2014 16:51

My notes have a purple cover with dividers in with the actual paper being white. They look a lot posher than with my DD 3 years ago. I was told they were new.
I was asked if I wanted to redo any antenatal courses and I'm not going to, remember it from the first time round. Also our hospital seem to just do a one day thing which is long and a bit intense.
A few more things that seem to be completely different across the NHS!!

My notes are blue, paper is white.

I think I'm going to not bother with nct. It would purely be to make friends but it sounds too groupy and interactive for me very reluctant to pay for something I'll dread going to The NHS are at rubbish times (10am on a Monday) for 4 weeks but will try and go anyway. There's ones for just dads at a better time so hopefully between us we'll go to enough.

I though about a bednest but very tempted to adapt the ikea cots which seems a popular and cheap option

cookielove · 05/05/2014 18:37

Mine are green and paper is white! Just curious really, and cause they are yellow on one born every minute.

Wow that's interesting about the classes, didn't realise they charge, also if I did them when should I start them?

topmammy · 05/05/2014 19:29

My notes are white paper with a green cover. Except that when I was booked in they had run out of them so I've also got a load of photocopied pages attached to the outside of the book. Looks messy and annoys the organised teacher in me! Hmm hehe.

DownstairsMixUp · 05/05/2014 19:43

My notes are just white to. They were red at the trust I had DS1 with.

polka arh how annoying! Maybe yours is sitting right in the middle hence only feeling the kicks low? I tend to feel kicks bang in the middle and low so I'm guessing the placenta is ultra high for me and sort of like an umbrella! I know they tend to move a lot in the first bit but not sure when its are in their "final" place
