Hi all,

New thread and probably our last in ante-natal.

Holy crap!

Hiya noseymcposey yep I am working up until 3 days before my due date. I am counting down the days already though and feeling especially knackered today... But as you said, I might go over, and I have heard first babies often do! I think I'd feel very lost not working, even for a week, as I cannot do much these days. Just going to work and occupying my mind is nice actually.

Misshoohaa thanks for the birth story. Also taking your advice to 'sit on the sofa and eat biscuits', I need it today!

Hiya Zaxter thanks for your lovely positive comments both about home birth and c-sections, my outlook is that no matter what happens in the end there will be a baby and it will be an experience of a lifetime! Saying that, what you said about being left/sent back etc is a worry of mine too. One reason I decided upon home birth, no trips back and forth to worry about.

Phew- I had my blood taken to check iron levels yesterday. They said if they're low, they would advise against a home birth, so I've been on ferrous fumerate religiously and they just said the results were 'satisfactory no action needed', yay! Only thing is, they said the level is '101' and when I asked if they mean 10.1, no, apparently the leveling has changed. So I do hope they are enough for the midwife to be happy with. My next appt is on the 30th so ages until I can ask, a bit frustrating! Guess I better keep knocking back the iron, at least it is working. Does anyone know if they check bloods again right at the end of the pregnancy or are they likely to leave it?

Misshoohaa - wow what a birth story, and the fact you remembered it as well. Well done you, 8cm with no drugs!

Nosy and Zaxter - thanks. That was the only slightly negative thing someone said about co sleeping. Dd1 did refuse to sleep in her cot bed for a while and even as she grew older used to escape to our bed in the night. Now age 7 going on 17, I can't wake her up in the mornings from her bed.

As for the mucus plug, it was just pieces of it, midwife said this is common and fine - it could still take a few weeks. Like Redcliffe I need at a least 2 weeks of Mat Leave to get things organised. I don't finish until the end of May at 38 weeks, but I'm seriously thinking of bringing that forward a week.

ElizaB3 · 13/05/2014 22:45

Thanks for sharing your birth story Misshoohaa, really interesting

Redcliff · 14/05/2014 09:22

Loved the birth story . Even though my planned HB didn't happen last time the fact that I was planning one meant the midwife came to my house in the early stages of labour and I didn't have to go in until the next day (my waters broke early so there were infection concerns) - we don't have a car so was great that we didn't have to get a cab at 11 pm.

My DS co slept and went into a cot in his own bed no problem - we thought it was going to be a massive problem and talked about staying up in shifts for the first night but no need.

mylittlel · 14/05/2014 19:23

what i birth story, i knew that what they tell you in antenatal classes- that mw what you to stay at home till contractions are more frequent not because they want you to be comfy at home just because they dont want you there

Redcliff · 14/05/2014 21:30

Lol - I think you might be right there. I took so long going in that the hospital called me at home asking where I was ( it was about 15 hours after my waters broke to be fair )

NeedaDiscoNap · 14/05/2014 21:47

Hi everyone, so lovely to hear of all the babies being born!

I've been having growth scans too as this little one is clearly going to be a bit on the titchy side. Have my next one a week today at 36 weeks - and if they're not happy they may induce me that Friday - eek! Not supposed to be finishing work til 38 weeks so might have to rethink that one...

misshoohaa · 15/05/2014 06:32

Pleased everyone enjoyed the birth story, I wrote it about a week after DS1 was born and very pleased I did, makes me well up whenever I read it and have shared it with a few friends since when they've been curious about how my labour was! Hoping to get DC2's recorded as well!

Needadisco - where on the curve are you and is there one part of the baby that is measuring smaller than others? Good luck, I hope you have a wee growth spurt!

We've got a Doppler scan tomorrow and growth scan next Friday so really hoping baby gets growing, I'm not keen for an induction (is anyone?!) so have cut out all caffeine, boosted the protein intake and trying to rest as much as possible.

Midwife appt this afternoon (34 weeks) at a hospital appt the other day a midwife thought that baby was breech so really hoping to be told otherwise this afternoon!!

Sussex31 · 15/05/2014 11:30

I thought the birth story was really helpful too, thank you so much for sharing.

We had a growth scan yesterday as my measurements didn't change between weeks 31 and 33, but baby appears to be exactly on track for size and in perfect presentation too.

We also had a consultant appointment about the gestational diabetes and looks like if I can continue with diet control then I'll be left until 41 weeks before induction is offered.

Now on maternity leave....woohooo!

noseymcposey · 15/05/2014 12:22

Just had consultants appointment pre-vbac and turns out baby is oblique at the moment so got to go back for another scan next week and if the same then they'll book me in for a CS. I had a CS with DS so I know I sort of know what to expect. My preferred option would be a waterbirth in the MLU which is what I'm booked in for, and my least preferred would be a long labour ending in a CS (which is what I had with DS) so I guess this would be the middle road!

Sareva · 15/05/2014 14:15

Well turns out the mucus plug coming away was something! Baby boy born this morning at 35+5. He's small but well!
Good luck to all with appointments x

Ps your the 3rd person from this group to give birth at 35+5 (which given only 4 people have given birth so far - it's quite a coincidence)
