Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
rhihaf · 22/04/2014 19:36

Hello everyone,
Can I join? I am due in December (according to my very dodgy calculations!) but have had two positive tests, inc a Clearblue last week that said 1-2, but when I saw the doc and told him the date of my last period, it worked out I was 6wks... Confused

Is anyone else feeling like they've been hit by a sledgehammer? I have absolutely NO energy and keep falling asleep! No MS yet, but had it with last pregnancy (DS will be 2 in June) so fingers crossed...

First trimester is so bloody hard isn't it?! I nearly cried at DH earlier because he didn't offer me a can of lager. Which I would have refused. But still...

espa · 22/04/2014 19:41

Sorry to here about those with troubles today. Fingers crossed for you.

Hayfever tablets - some are okay, some not - need to speak to gp I think. I've realised its not hayfever I've got but sinusitis, which I think it's worse. Tough day at work today and so nutshell pressure on sinuses and headache just feel wiped. Luckily for me someone at work told me about a natural remedy saline spray today so have picked that up in the hope it helps as normal sinex/sudofed is a no no in pregnancy. Who knew so much was out of bounds!

PolytheneGirl · 22/04/2014 20:36

Is Gok's poo yogurt (Activia) going to help with my boating? Or is it all in my uterus?

Cineraria · 22/04/2014 21:00

Not sure about yours but I think mine is fluid retention. I usually start to look pregnant just before AF, get really thirsty and put on three or four pounds then when AF turns up I seem to need a wee every few minutes until it goes but this month, the fluid hasn't left.

Hope the yoghurt helps.

PolytheneGirl · 22/04/2014 21:03

I usually get really bloated before AF too. You're prob right about the fluid! damn it

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 22/04/2014 21:08

Actimel is on offer in Tesco at the moment. Cheap enough for you to give it a whirl and see if it helps! We have it anyway so I can't comment on whether it helps with pregnancy bloating :P

Bettycakes80 · 22/04/2014 22:03

So no idea how to tell parents. The issue is it'll be 1st grandchild for both sets and they're going to be so over excited I'm worried they'll go completely over the top!

I think my bloatings going down :/ I've been trying to eat little bits often. Saying that though I have still constantly got this pressure in my left side.
Might try actimel...

Betty, DH's parents were very over excited, 1st time grandparents but my parents weren't so. It was a little disappointing. Enjoy the excitement :)

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 22/04/2014 22:29

Cheesecakemom we are expecting the same reaction from DH's parents :( he says he doesn't care what they think but I know he really, really craves their approval and he'll be devastated. I'm dreading telling anyone!

oohdaddypig · 22/04/2014 22:29

ffallada and what'sonemore" - thinking of you both. whatsone* I think if your abdominal pain persists you should get yourself to A and E in case it is ectopic. I don't think it's right you should be in agony before they check. Xx

threeicklepickles · 22/04/2014 22:31

Blimey, this thread moves fast. Still only sore boobs here (4+6), but waiting for the nausea to hit. Think it was about 6 wks with dcs 1 & 2.

Not sure when we'll tell people, am supposed to be helping my parents pack up and move house soon, but obv don't want to do too much lifting, and I think they'll guess when I turn down wine/gin/beer etc.

I know prawns and other shellfish are now off the menu, does this include prawn crackers and prawn toast? DH is away this week and we normally have a takeaway when he gets back...I don't think I can watch him eat those if I can't have them!

I need to ring GP/MW and get booked in, it still doesn't feel real iykwim. Does anyone else feel the same?

Kittykatmacbill · 22/04/2014 22:49

three me too, totally unreal - phoned up for booking and scan today, and felt a total fraud. I did sneak a peak at some tiny baby clothes in h&m today whilst failing to find dd a sunhat... So differant from what dd wears!

I seem to have ballooned up too, I am sure everyone that looks at me must know... Must start eating gok's poo (yogurt). Grin

fallada and whats virtual hugs to you both.

PolytheneGirl · 22/04/2014 23:02

Ok, another slightly stupid question but........ Water retention is worse if you don't drink enough, right?

If that's right(?) drinking more water should make me less bloated?

threeicklepickles · 22/04/2014 23:12

I think so polythene, the less water there is in your body, the more your body tries to keep what water it has, so in theory, the more you drink, the less it needs to hold onto.

I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable/qualified than me will come along soon and correct me if I'm wrong!

Cineraria · 23/04/2014 00:52

You should definitely keep drinking plenty of water polythene and that might help your fluid retention but in my experience when I have hormonal water retention I don't think how much or little I drink affects it very much. If the hormones are there, I have it and how much water I have only determines whether or not I'll also have cracked lips and constipation to go with it!

You could try having some foods that are naturally diuretic, maybe, although, again, I didn't find it that useful to me. There are lots of lists if you Google diuretic foods. I seem to remember drinking fresh beetroot juice.

espa · 23/04/2014 07:29

Meant to say got my midwife appointment for 2 weeks time, when I'll be 7 weeks. Just before I go on hols so hopefully once I'm back won't have long to wait for a scan. :)

PolytheneGirl · 23/04/2014 07:37

Thanks ladies. I must sound so vain re: the water retention but honestly I look pregers and I'm desperate not to have to come out for 6 more weeks! I'm going to try drinking more and eating/drinking some of the naturally diuretic foods/drinks. Fx

SassehMonsta · 23/04/2014 07:46

betty, we're going for longer lasting ways of telling them, so have decorated a mug each for my parents, saying "Upgrading to Grandma/Grandad" then a loading bar at 20%, and an estimated completion date. First time grandparents for them, but not so much for my MIL as she has step grandkids. We told the in-laws with humour "we're going to need a bigger boat" (from jaws) and an IOU a grandchild, redeemable mid December 2014 - they live on a canal boat!

Good luck telling them, I'm sure they will be excited! As for questions about "was it planned" we're mostly responding with "well it wasn't too much of a surprise".

ffallada and whats, hope everything goes ok, and if not know that we are all here for you guys - let us know, and stay safe!

Been having period style craps this morning but no bleeding and got the dreaded diahorrea back again. Struggling to eat anything sensible and living off sandwiches which probably isn't helping!

How long should we be taking vitamins for? I'm on a multivitamin with folic acid (a conception support one), but wondering at what point I should change or stop.

SassehMonsta · 23/04/2014 07:48

Also, super gurgly stomach today! And i meant cramps not craps (oops!)

Cineraria · 23/04/2014 10:01

I love the idea of mugs for the announcement, Sasseh.

I thought we're supposed to take the vitamins for quite a while, if not throughout. I switched to a pregnancy one when the conception ones ran out.

dgift · 23/04/2014 10:15

Ffallada and whatsonemore, wishing u the best.
my 13months old likes falling on my tommy, hope it does not affect my baby!
heard that girl pregnancy does not cause ms. pls how true is this?
my DH says he wants a boy but all I want is a healthy baby.

Pickles79 · 23/04/2014 10:57

I thought girls tended to cause more morning sickness. With my son I only had travel sickness. My daughter caused me to live on dry cracker bread for nearly four months!

PresidentSpreadable · 23/04/2014 11:01

I just told my parents over dinner, both cautiously excited (my mmc was picked up two days after we told them last time).

Early scan on Friday morning, will be 7+4.

A straw poll of friends who have had bad ms and given birth to both boys and girls indicates that there is sod all truth in 'girl pregnancies' not causing ms dgift.

Treaclepie19 · 23/04/2014 11:16

Love all the unique way a to tell parents :)
We told my parents by giving them a congratulations card and inside I wrote "to Nanny and Grandad, congratulations, hope you're ready for a busy Xmas, love (nearly) baby and then our last name. Told the in laws out right as it's their first grandchild. It's my mom's 4th grandchild.
