Hi Minions! Both my boys were back to back, so here's my longwinded as usual summing up:

DS1: waters broke 2 days before labour. All contraction pains (even from very start) in my lower back, nothing at front. Later stages of labour felt very much as if I was shitting an elephant. He turned around just before delivery, so came out the right way round.
Crowning was a breeze compared to contractions. Stood throughout labour, leaning fwd on bed on elbows.
Gas & air only, got to asking about epidural and was found to be fully dilated - having the end in sight enabled me to carry on with G&A. I'd say my Hypnobirthing practise definitely helped, I did 'breathe him down'.
All this said, he was born at 36+0 and had a teeny tiny head!

DS2: Contraction pains started in front, moving to the back later on. Got into birthing pool around 5/7cm dil (can't remember already!), the warmth of the water definitely helped, my waters went while in pool.
Same as with DS1, I asked about epidural around the time things got serious! Managed to do the whole thing on G&A again, but hadn't done any Hypnobirthing practise this time and really found DH helpful in managing my breathing.
DS2 came out face up, so widest bit first. Crowning was a lot harder this time, and took ages, he went back up a couple of times.

Both times I had a 2nd degree tear in a 'good' place, no probs healing.

The midwife this time told me after that if I had had an epidural I would almost certainly have had an instrumental delivery - she said its nigh on impossible to push out a back to back baby if you have no sensation left.

I hope all that's helpful rather than just TMI! :)

dobedobedo · 22/04/2014 21:44

Just popping in quickly before I (hopefully) fall asleep. I've read all the posts but I'm buggered if I can remember who said what Blush I'm so totally shattered today, my brain isn't firing on all cylinders!
I barely slept last night, and today I've hardly had the energy to get off the couch. I'm just way too sore and uncomfortable to get any sleep! Baby better not come before I have a chance to get a good night rest!

Sorry, don't mean to whinge! I hope everyone is doing well, I can't wait to hear about more new babies soon! Is there a postnatal May thread yet? I know it's too early for most of us to join, but we could nosy and see what we are letting ourselves in for! Smile

Minions · 22/04/2014 22:00

Thanks LTT, that's really useful. Reassuring to hear you managed with G&A and without epidural - I heard too that it's not great for back to back babies. Hope you're getting on great with the newest addition :)

Hope you sleep better tonight dobe, it's rubbish when all you need is a good rest but can't find it x

Vikks · 22/04/2014 23:31

Crazy day here ladies, my 36 week hospital appointment turned into Fetal Monitoring most of the afternoon having an hour a home and then having to go back tonight. Olivia's heart rate was reading very high and my BP was up again. They also told me she might be breech and were talking about turning her and c-sections; my head has been all over the place!
In the end it all turned out good, her heart rate came down to normal levels and a scan confirmed she was head down. They had difficulty feeling her head because it was 'so low down'! All this on a day DP was 300 miles away. I'm so glad today is over. Talk about stressful...

Sweet dreams all x

MrsFooCough · 22/04/2014 23:36

I am going quietly insane with Restless Leg right now. I've not mentioned it to my midwife but a bit of googling has suggested that maybe my high protein diet to manage my gestational diabetes is causing me to become calcium deficient, so I will mention it tomorrow as I'm going to the hospital for a growth scan, diabetes clinic and obstetrician appt. Fingers crossed they can help me, it's utterly soul destroying when I'm so tired but my stupid body won't stop telling me to GO AND RUN AROUND YOU'RE NOT TIRED ENOUGH

Xavielli · 23/04/2014 01:38

Cailean arrived @7.06pm 22/04 after just 1hr30 mins of active labour. Took a lot to get started though, long day! He's 6lb 4oz and worth every pain

Xavielli · 23/04/2014 01:40

P.s I'm bloody starving! Remember to take food in your hospital bag I'm too much of a wimp to ask for something lol

ohdearitshappeningtome · 23/04/2014 02:37

ClearlyMoo · 23/04/2014 04:37

I'm awake at 4.30am starving. Not sure I can be bothered to raid kitchen right now!

MasterFlea · 23/04/2014 05:25

Congrats Xav. Lovely name. Hope you are both well and recovering.

Good tip about the food. Especially if you birth late at night.

Sleeping has gotten so horrible. I felt like I had a corset being tightened around my ribs and had to get up several times to ease it. I'm like a zombie without my sleep.

Minions · 23/04/2014 06:45

Many congratulations Xav, great news that he's arrived safely. Well done too for getting through a long day. Enjoy all those cuddles not jealous at all :)

Vikks, sounds scary - hope you gave a better day today and your OH is cluster to home.

Sympathies with those finding it hard to sleep due to pains & hunger, I'm with you there! Not long though, can't be....

pickletalk14 · 23/04/2014 07:35

Congrats Xav!

There's a lot of you up early- sorry to hear of the suffering. Vikks that was a hell of a day, hope you get to relax today and MrsFC good luck with all the appointments.

On the train to work (excellent time to mumsnet) 11 more working days.... eeek!

Choppa · 23/04/2014 07:44

Congratulations Xav! Hope you get a good brekkie this morning!!

OH off for a job interview today so I'm with DS...will venture out after a reasonable nights sleep. Friends visiting tomorrow with their new baby...can't wait for some cuddles!

Need some breakfast now xx

moobaloo · 23/04/2014 07:58

Vikks, sounds scary! Hope all ok now xxx

Congratulations Xav!! Hope they fed you! Enjoy the snuggles!

Hope all the night posters got some sleep in the end that wasn't completely ruined by restless legs, Braxton hicks or corset pain! I feel much better lying down than sitting ATM but good god it's un comfy turning over!?

Chip - I'd be timing those BH if I were you! You never know!

Hope everyone has a lovely day! I'm off to he shops to pick up some last baby bits which is very exciting Grin

Vikks · 23/04/2014 08:38

Xav well done and what a cutie pie! X

Thanks for all your well wishes yesterday. DP got back late last night and he's going to try not to be more than an hour from home now. I think he felt worse than me yesterday because he was so far away and just wanted to be at the hospital with us. Hopefully that's the end of the drama for us now until little lady decides to arrive. Smile

Squiffie · 23/04/2014 08:47

Congrats Nanny and Xavielli.

Hope Poppy is out of nicu and back with you nanny, fingers crossed she's doing well.

Vikks, hope you have a less stressful day today.

Dobe and Clearly, hope your babies arrive soon and stop playing tricks.

Bush, hope bushbaby hangs fire a little while until your dh arrives!

Apologies to anyone I've forgotten, took me ages to catch up!! Feel miles behind again, like at the beginning, as I'm 35 weeks today, not even nearly in the drop zone yet! I'm likely to be induced early though due to GD but will find out more next Wednesday.

loopylou52 · 23/04/2014 09:19

Congrats again xav, hope you managed to get some food!

vikks, sorry to hear you had such a scary day but glad all is ok now.

Sympathies to those with lack of sleep. I was up just before 5 eating some bread while walking round the kitchen to stretch my stupid legs. Managed to settle back down for a while after that though. I've read magnesium helps with cramp so might see about getting some supplements.

Spirael · 23/04/2014 09:22

Morning all and congratulations Xav! Grin

I thought I'd have more time to read/post when I started maternity leave, but I have so many things to do that I'm still falling behind-! Admittedly it is partially self inflicted, I'm nesting in earnest and the house just isn't clean enough!! I'm also being a domestic goddess and baking lots of fresh bread and buns. DH and DD1 are fine with this.

Won tickets to the BBC Good Food Show this weekend, so will be going there and getting even more ideas for yummy things to make! I figure I'll worry about losing the baby weight after the baby has actually arrived...

Had my 34 week appointment yesterday and all is fine. BP nice and low and DD2 seems to have finally settled into the head down position. Been signed off for home birth and the clinic MW doesn't want to see me again until I'm around 38+4. If I deliver at the same stage as last time, I won't be making that appointment. Wink

Finally got my whooping cough vaccination booked for next Wednesday, so that's something to look forward to. Hmm On the plus side, picking up the birthing pool next Monday so soon I can enjoy a leisurely soak in the evening in water deep enough to cover my bump. Bliss!

kally195 · 23/04/2014 10:37

Morning all. Lots of sympathy to those who are suffering with sleep - I was up a few times either with horrible coughing fits or just because the bump is so heavy and tight now that I have to rearrange. I think she was also grinding her way down further into my pelvis - walking is certainly more challenging this morning.

I'm going to finish painting the kitchen today, as well remembering to buy the last few bits we need. Must buy some nursing bras!

My grandad emailed me at 3am (don't ask) to tell me that Aldi have a baby event on Thursday - looks like it may be good for stocking up on essentials. I got a voucher in Sainsburys saying their baby event starts on the 30th.

Just read a brilliant article on the Guardian about ending gendering of toys. Both me and DH have strong feelings on gendering, and it is really encouraging to see so many retailers etc starting to come on board with the various campaigns.

Spose I should get up really.

dobedobedo · 23/04/2014 10:52

I've just spent the morning watching made in Chelsea and Jeremy Kyle. Hmm Trash TV at its finest! (aren't the men in MIC such pieces of shit?) I'm having an easy day today after spending the past few days nesting and organising. Tomorrow I might carry on with culling ds's old toys and things, but today is all about doing sweet FA! Grin

How's everyone else spending maternity leave? Those of us without our gorgeous, squishy babies yet, that is!

ClearlyMoo · 23/04/2014 10:55

Good morning proper everyone! I was awake from 4-6.30 but had a nice cuddle with DH when he woke up then went back to sleep til 9, so thankful! Aware when baby comes it'll be demanding my nights! Our hired bednest crib has arrived and it's beautiful! I'm supposed to be setting it up today and putting things into drawers in nursery but I'm in bed all floppy under duvet! Just realised village market is on 10-12 and I should pop along and buy stuff! I will get up in a bit.

My SPD is so bad today. Walking feels like hips are held together with very little. Wonder if the pesky bobbing baby is trying to dig it's way out. Anyone else feel like pelvis on fire when they stand up and walk?!

MoominAndMiniMoom · 23/04/2014 11:05

Celyn and I have been discharged from midwives and she'll start seeing the health visitor tomorrow. she's two weeks old tomorrow!! Where's the time going??

Congrats Xav, don't let them cheat you out of tea and toast!!

hope everyone else is doing well today!

ohdearitshappeningtome · 23/04/2014 12:00

I have midwife tomorrow for day ten weigh and stuff! Also my initial meeting with the health visitor!!

What did I do in my past life to deserve the double whammy on one day??

All I seem to do these days is wash clothes and sterilise breast pump/bottles !!!

JuniorMint · 23/04/2014 13:22

Afternoon all, hope everyone's doing well. I went to community midwife appt this morning and my blood pressure was up for the second appointment in a row plus there was protein in my urine, so midwife sent me to Maternity Assessment at the hospital.

They took my BP four times over an hour and another urine sample- blood pressure normal each time and only small trace of protein. They also put a trace on baby and found heart beat and movement good.

However, community midwife had measured me as 37cm earlier but hospital midwife said she was struggling to measure me any more than 35cm (I am 37+2) so because of discrepancy and measurements she has booked me in fit non- urgent growth scan on Monday.
