Sorry to everyone suffering this morning, but hooray for it being May!!! The end really is in sight for us all!

Thanks for telling us your story polly. Sounds like you went through it a bit but glad you're home and hope you're recovering well.

Anybody with any tips for cheap newborn baby carrier suitable for hot weather?
I have an ergo which I love but with the newborn insert it gets quite hot so wondering about getting something for first few weeks.

Morning all - it's May!

Sorry I've not been around much - manic couple of days trying to crack on with the house.

Selfish me post alert....

The lunch with girls from work that I went to on Tuesday turned out to be a surprise party with lovely baby presents - I was really touched and wasn't expecting it at all. I've only known these girls since we got back in September, but they are fast becoming brilliant friends.

Had my 38 week check (at 37+4 - anyone else having all their checks a week ahead?!). All is good, monster is still head down etc. She measured me at 36 weeks, but she wasn't concerned. She has made me another appointment for two weeks time "if I haven't had the baby by then"!

I had really bad back ache last night (right in my lower back) for the first time this pregnancy. I think it might just be cos I worked hard - walked to the midwife, got up a ladder and painted several walls in the kitchen, glossed doors upstairs, went nuts cleaning the bathroom and did a supermarket shop.

I wore myself out so much that I slept through till 6am this morning. Quite impressed I didn't wet the bed Grin

Congrats again to all the lovely mummies - and thank you Polly for sharing the birth story. Hope those of you who are having some signs of labour progress quickly!

Still can't believe it is May already....

Not sure if anyone will be interested but it's in case, had an email from work today, designer changing bag brand Sugarjack are having a massive sale, all bags £100, which is still a lot, but they're discounted down from £250 odd s if you're a bag hag, go for a look!

Holy fucking shit! I just weighed myself and I've put on 6kg (a stone) in the last two weeks!!! Wtf?!

I'd only put on about 2kg the whole pregnancy up until two weeks ago! Surely most or all of that is swelling? I don't even eat as much as I did when I was at work!

Shock
rebeccax2 · 01/05/2014 11:25

dobedobedo I am the same. I kept my weight gain down but the last 2 weeks I've but on 7 pounds! I mean, it's crazy. I thought it was supposed to slow down!

I'm guessing it's fluid as that's what I'm suffering from right now.

moobaloo · 01/05/2014 11:35

ITS MAY!!!

Dobe, probably extra fluid from the swelling, but I think this is the point we put on weight the fastest as well? Baby should be fattening up so that will make a difference too!

Kally, I have my 38 week appt at 39 weeks! Haha the dates are very funny and they only see people alternate weeks here and I'm on the wrong rotation! Had all my appts on odd weeks. Your surprise party sounds great! What fab friends Smile

Eek it's all going to start happening now isn't it? Babies everywhere!!

37+3

Bezzabelle · 01/05/2014 11:43

Happy 1st May everyone!

I've been the opposite- put on tons in the 2nd trimester after throwing up through the entire 1st trimester and not enjoying any food so think I was making up for it! Literally put on two stone in ten weeks! Now in last 6 weeks, put on 4 pounds so thank goodness has slowed down. I heard its about a pound a week in last trimester?

ohdearitshappeningtome · 01/05/2014 11:49

Don't forget that the time that u have baby whipped out u loose almost a stone !!

MoominAndMiniMoom · 01/05/2014 12:12

Haha so much for what I said earlier about giving her bottled milk at night... health visitor has just advised us to switch to Comfort formula to help Callie's constipation, and they don't do ready-made bottles of that. On the bright side she's now 8lb 4oz, she's put on 1lb 1oz since being born!

Don't worry about the extra weight people! It's normal according to Babycentre, and it does seem to disappear once the baby's born. I'm back to pre-pregnancy weight and I'd gained a stone and a bit. I haven't re-started exercise or been eating particularly healthy at all (and trust me, I'm not usually the sort to lose weight without trying!! Grin ) I found this link really good with the info about weight gain - Weight Gain in Pregnancy if anyone is interested/concerned.

When shall we start the postnatal thread? (Obviously just to place-mark, we should stay talking here until the last Maybie has been born!)

ohdearitshappeningtome · 01/05/2014 12:19

How many boys a a how many girls have been born already? I feel the girls are trumping the boys!

MoominAndMiniMoom · 01/05/2014 12:22

I need to update the Facebook list Blush

dobedobedo · 01/05/2014 12:42

Start the postnatal thread now! We can straddle them both - us preggos can symptom spot and whinge about our ailments on here, and then we can see what chaos is in store for us by lurking on the postnatal one!

MoominAndMiniMoom · 01/05/2014 12:43

Will do Grin

rebeccax2 · 01/05/2014 12:53

Yeah! Moomin thank god for you!

BlanketSky · 01/05/2014 13:11

Hello, for those not on facebook, Zoë Ellen arrived on Monday at 11.44am by elcs, she weighed 7lb5oz which is much tinier than we'd expected after her (very proud) big brother! We came home yesterday and I am struggling a lot with pain*, very uncomfortable especially my hips for some reason. Bf is going well however, milk has come in now- and she is gorgeous (will be off to put a pic up on the fb group in a bit).

(*for anyone now scared, I am allergic to aspirin so the hospital wouldn't give me anti-inflammatories as they are related... or take codeine beyond a couple of days as I am bf. Which rather limits pain relief though morphine is pretty good. Now I'm home I am taking some ibuprofen as well as the paracetamol which is making a bit of a difference)

It is all worth it though :)

BlanketSky · 01/05/2014 13:17

re ff, I think WHO/UNICEF advice is you can make up a day's worth of bottles, we did this with DS. Make them up with 70oC water as usual then flash cool them- we used to stand them in a sink full of cold water, then straight to the back of the fridge (coldest part). There was an official document that described this, think it was one of those above, but obviously our govt have decided people in this country can't cope with this advice Hmm

ohdearitshappeningtome · 01/05/2014 13:53

My understanding UNICEF / who advises make one at a time

mamapants · 01/05/2014 14:05

Am sure you've been asked this already dobedo but they are keeping an eye on you in terms of pre eclampsia symptoms aren't they? Sudden weight gain like that is one of the things you should be looking out for. And I know you have been suffering lots with swelling.
Also look out for headaches, pains in upper stomach/under ribs, visual disturbances

CurlsLDN · 01/05/2014 14:08

Back in the MAU! Just for a bp check, as they want me to pop in twice a week to get checked. However, I've been here over an hour now and have had 5 checks, all something/89-92, so now they say a dr will come and talk to me!

Perhaps they'll induce and I'll get the first May-be? Not sure if that idea makes me scared or excited! Probably won't happen though...

moobaloo · 01/05/2014 14:46

Congrats Blanket!! Hope you're enjoying the snuggles and the pain is improving xxxx

Ooh Curls! Let us know the outcome! I don't know if they induce for low blood pressure but that does sound very low so maybe they will, when is your due date? Would be lovely to have a maybie born on the 1st!

bushprincess · 01/05/2014 15:03

Hope all is well curls keep us updated,

Dobe second the qus re bp etc - hope all is well but with such bad swelling may be best to get checked if you can

reading the post from pfj made me teary this morning - and then again listening to womans hr, am generally not a particularly emotional one so I think the pg hormones are definately doing their work!!!

Moan alert.......

I am broken Sad. I spent the morning painting the study for my father (it was re-roofed last week)... wanted to help out as he's been amazing helping get everything sorted here for home birth (including staying up to syphon out pool after the wet run the other evening when I went to bed!) but I am now in SO MUCH PAIN!

Just as I was counting my blessings for having generally had such an easy time of it and still feeling (somewhat) fit and happy... a morning of painting has completely scuppered me! Pelvis feels like it's about to split in half and feels like bushbaby could literally just fall out any moment! OWWWWWWWWWW!

have now left him to it and chilling out on the sofa feeling like a whimp sorry for myself

Ok, moan over... at least the rain has stopped and it looks lovely and sunny outside and only 3 more sleeps till DH gets here! hurrah Smile

Happy 1st May to all you wonderful Maybies!! Thanks

MasterFlea · 01/05/2014 15:07

Congrats Blanket! I hope you recover soon.

Thanks Polly for sharing your birth story. Hope you are also recovering well.

Well done to both of you. Thanks

rebeccax2 · 01/05/2014 15:12

Keep us posted darling curls

I've sort of refused to do my last 2 days in the office by just not turning up. I'm too sore. Typing with one finger thanks to CTS.

bush does that pelvic pain mean the baby has engaged? I'm still carrying high.. no idea what the signs are. xx

mamapants · 01/05/2014 15:53

Anybody come across any shops selling extra special baby stuff? Am trying to find inspiration for present for my pregnant friend but haven't seen anything that stands out.
I would have expected to see loads of lovely, tempting things but nothing has caught my eye. She's expecting a boy.
Or any of you who have had your maybies- did you get any amazing presents you'd reccommend?
